And hoping when ba y is here will be quick to dissappear

EithneBlue · 02/12/2020 10:18

Baby boy arrived yesterday: bit traumatic for all involved (escalated rather quickly to emergency forceps due to baby being in an impossible position and not coping). I've come out relatively unscathed but baby is now in the NICU for at least a few days as he was a little deprived of oxygen so is being given cooling treatment to help protect his brain - haven't been able to hold him yet (I can touch him though and he has a strong little grip in his tiny hands) and won't be able to hold him for another 3 days but he's in good hands and has been fighting the doctors which is a good sign.
I am being incredibly well looked after here: husband was allowed to stay with me until this morning and we can both individually visit the NICU 24/7 (although we have to "book" to visit together). I am going to give the expressing of colostrum a go soon to take to the NICU for when he's allowed to eat :-)

peachypetite · 02/12/2020 10:21

@EithneBlue I hope you are okay. That must have been very scary and I’m glad you are being well cared for in the hospital. Congrats on your little boy

MrsSmith2020 · 02/12/2020 10:32

@EithneBlue thinking of you and your little one. I hope you are cuddling up together very soon. That must have been very scary

My friend had a very similar birth and NICU admitted baby in august (lack of oxygen) and they used the cooling mats too. She now has a beautiful thriving 4 month old daughter. They first 7 days were hard but they are all at home now- hope that gives you some comfort

Babyevictionimminent · 02/12/2020 10:43

Congratulations on all these little babies! What an amazing birthday present @roro87! I really hope you get a cuddle with your boy soon @EithneBlue and he’s soon fighting fit

Charl88 · 02/12/2020 10:46

@EithneBlue congratulations on your little boy. I hope your able to give him extra cuddles soon. Must have been so scary for you!!
Congratulations to everyone else who have had their little ones. Im still patiently waiting x

kkr168 · 02/12/2020 10:54

Congratulations @EithneBlue on your baby boy, he's in the best of hands.

I've been having regular contractions, 30 seconds long every 3 minutes, they are like period pains so completely manageable at the moment.
Husbands an hour away at work, I'm currently putting off calling him because he'll rush home & I don't think his customer will be happy with there roof being open!!

Kj1010 · 02/12/2020 11:04

@EithneBlue congratulations on the birth or ur bubba hopefully you will very soon be able to snuggle him and give him all the love and kisses take it easy and reat up

LRHRN · 02/12/2020 11:12

@EithneBlue congratulations on the birth of your little boy, sending lots of love and best wishes for his speedy recovery 💕

MrsSmith2020 · 02/12/2020 11:31

@kkr168 so so excited for you!! How many weeks are you? Do you have a tens machine

loobeelou · 02/12/2020 11:41

Congratulations @EithneBlue, sounds like you are both in good hands and hopefully you will have cuddles soon.

kkr168 · 02/12/2020 11:43

@MrsSmith2020 I'm 40+6, contractions are still coming regularly, I've rang my husband but told him to stay at work for now. I do have a tens machine, the pain is very manageable at the moment so wasn't sure if I should use it yet? I was told to put it on straight away, so guess I should.
Trying to keep busy & mobile at the moment, have tidied up, hoovered, mopped, put a lentil & bacon soup in the slow cooker, bins out, running out of things to do!

MrsSmith2020 · 02/12/2020 11:50

@kkr168 can you have a long bath, shave legs, and do face mask?

Amyyy1 · 02/12/2020 11:56

@roro87 Congratulations, what an amazing birthday!! 🥰🎈

@EithneBlue Congratulations, I hope you can cuddle eachother soon, I'm glad to hear you are all being well looked after. X

@kkr168 How exciting for you, you might have your little one arriving later today!!😍

danielasummer · 02/12/2020 12:03

@EithneBlue Congratulations and bless you that does sound traumatic, but he's in the best hands now. Hoping you're all able to have cuddles and get home soon. Glad to hear your husband has been able to stay with you x

Yeah we do as it does get their immune system off to a good start! @LRHRN
I don’t want to have formula but I was exhausted and I felt bad that I wasn’t satisfying her enough @roro87 hopefully our milk comes in soon just a couple of days of this struggle just don’t like seeing her cry..
congratulations @EithneBlue hope you can hold him soon 💙

LRHRN · 02/12/2020 14:23

I've got the midwife coming out today as Nora isn't keeping her feeds down now and isn't really pooing much.
I don't know if I'm doing the right thing breast feeding her or wether I should switch to formula permanently. Feel abit of a failure at the minute and I'm just so tired 😭
I look at this beautiful little thing and I just don't know what to do to help her.
Had to fetch my teenage son from school as he has to isolate now for 14days.
I really didn't anticipate how difficult I would find juggling a newborn baby and other children

kkr168 · 02/12/2020 16:00

Still no change here, contractions are still lasting 30 seconds & 3 minutes apart, getting more painful but still very managable.
I got fed up with being indoors, so went to smyths, sainsburys & M&S, home again now. My husbands home now too & is currently running me a bath.
The hospital have told me to wait till my contractions are 1 minute long, 5 minutes apart before going in, unless the pain becomes to much.

MrsSmith2020 · 02/12/2020 16:51

@kkr168 wow! You are superwoman

kkr168 · 02/12/2020 16:58

@MrsSmith2020 I don't know about that!! Feels like things aren't progressing, been having the same frequency of contractions since 9am, think were in for a long night.

Babyhope98 · 02/12/2020 18:10

Don’t beat yourself up you’ve done a great job it’s not your fault if things are not working out breastfeeding @LRHRN

My little girl has egg smelling farts ? Not what I expected out of this pretty little thing. Anyone else? X

excitednerves · 02/12/2020 18:22

@Nic2908 me! I’m still suffering carpal tunnel on day 5 post birth. I asked he midwife about it today and she said it will go when all the water retention goes so could be a week or two 😭

@EithneBlue congratulations! I hope you are both doing OK. NICU is scary but your little one is in the best hands. Fingers crossed you can all go home soon.

LRHRN · 02/12/2020 18:44

@Babyhope98 😂 yeah definitely has some smelly farts, she's clearly like her dad and big brother. It's hard to believe something so beautiful and little can smell so bad 😂

Spoke with the midwife and she's told me not to give formula if I plan on continuing breastfeeding as that is a lot harder to digest so may make her constipated if she's already struggling. I'm going to try and limit expressed bottles until she's had a poo xx

Pinktruffle · 02/12/2020 19:39

@EithneBlue Congratulations! I'm glad your husband has been able to stay with you and that you are both able to see baby boy together. He is in the best possible place and hopefully will be in your arms for cuddles very soon. Take care of yourself x

NaomiB79 · 02/12/2020 21:43

@LRHRN @Babyhope98 just wanted to say there is absolutely nothing wrong with giving your baby a bit of formula if you are finding breast feeding difficult or don't think they are getting enough. It can take five days to get your supply in properly so if you think your baby isn't getting enough just give them some formula if you think that will help / make life easier. You can always revert to exclusively breast feeding once you know your supply is in properly. This is what I did I was getting so stressed about feeling like she wasn't getting enough but then felt like a failure for not breast feeding but at the end of the day just did what I thought was best to make sure she had enough and wasn't hungry. My baby lost a lot of weight at the start as my supply wasn't good but I had no way of knowing that so we switched to combi feeding xx
