@Mumtoalittlegirl, congrats!

We are selling/buying too!

FTMF30 · 06/01/2021 10:55

@Mumtoalittlegirl Aaah congratulations! I kept thinking I must be having twins too from the intense symptoms I'd been having compared to the last time lol, but they've thankfully died down (for now).

Has anyone else who was waiting had their scan appointment yet? I got fed up of waiting and called my maternity unit. They booked an appointment while I was on the phone. God knows when I'd have got booked in if I didn't make the call.

2Under22021 · 06/01/2021 11:04

@FTMF30 I had my 12 week scan at 14+2 Hmm

Currently got my 20 week scan booked in for 20+4....but it has already been rearranged once so we'll see.

Got my first midwife app tomorrow so nearly 18weeks

Mommabear20 · 06/01/2021 11:09

@FTMF30 still waiting for my scan date :/ might give them a call if I haven't had my letter by Friday as I will be 12 weeks on the 15th and am positive I knew well well well in advance of the date last time. I know it's different with everything that's going on but still seems a bit odd that we've not heard anything

Bellaphant · 06/01/2021 11:17

The midwife only sent my letter to the hospital on Thursday so god knows when I'll be seen, 11 weeks on Friday.

Even with Ds I didn't have my appt until the last day they could possibly do the nuchal testing, so I'm not holding much hope.

Going in tomorrow to do bloods/urine etc.

Char899 · 06/01/2021 11:35

I spoke to my community midwife office this morning to find out the date for my scan because I’m 11 weeks Friday and I know the scan can be from 11 weeks. Have been trying to get hold of someone since Monday. Finally spoke to someone and my scan has been booked for Monday 11th. Don’t know when I would have received a letter but glad I called or I would have missed it. I’m a little concerned that I’ll only be 11+3 at the scan, hope it’s not too early.

Mumtoalittlegirl · 06/01/2021 12:57

Thank you everyone. Smile @Mommabear20 there are two placentas so most likely fraternal but they can still be identical I think! I’m a fraternal twin with a twin brother so I think that’s more likely.

@FTMF30 my sickness has actually got a lot better this week so you never know haha! My main suspicion was the fact I could feel something so early, they seem to be quite low. Plus loads of food aversions which I didn’t have in first pregnancy.

I had my booking appointment today so waiting for NHS scan date. I’m due to relocate areas soon but been told they don’t tend to transfer records or anything so I’ll basically have to go through everything again from scratch!

@Char899 I think 11 weeks will be fine! I saw loads at 8.4 weeks and she was able to take measurements and everything.

FTMF30 · 06/01/2021 13:05

@2under22021 Yes, I remember you saying upthread. I think that's what motivated me to pester about my appointment tbh. I've had no private scan so couldn't bear the wait. I'd called my midwife initially and they said they had processed my referral on 22nd December and I just need to sit tight for the letter in the post. But I couldn't wait so called the hospital direct. It's very annoying that they hadn't seemed to have arranged an appointment at all as I booked over the phone, so it wasn't a case of waiting for the letter in the post at all!

@Mommabear20 I'd definitely recommend giving your maternity unit a call. It pushed things along in my case. I don't think I'd have got my scan date yet otherwise.

@Bellaphant Oh really? And there wasn't the excuse of Covid with your 1st so that's a bit rubbish. I think I'm becoming a bit anxious this time around because everything went so swimmingly with DS1. I'm a little worried this time I won't be so lucky.

@char899 I think the usual time frame is between 11-13 weeks (from what I've looked up) so 11+3 should be ok.

2Under22021 · 06/01/2021 13:12

@FTMF30 glad you chased.

I'll defo be staying more vocal to make sure I get the appointments I should be!

Bellaphant · 07/01/2021 17:09

Went to my face to face today, she said I should hear from the scan people by next Friday (I'll be 12 weeks then!)

Char899 · 07/01/2021 17:27

@Bellaphant that seems so late. Can you give them a chase? If I’d waited that long to hear from them I would have missed my scan.

PinkGiraffe1 · 07/01/2021 17:43

Hi Everyone. I'm 12 weeks today. 2nd baby. Only found out I was pregnant 4 days ago so still in slight shock - but very happy. Just told DD (5 in May) and she's over the moon. About to tell PILs tonight (already got the negative bingo card at the ready!) Wink

Bellaphant · 07/01/2021 18:01

@Char899, when I asked about chasing them she said to call her first! Which doesn't change anything.

@PinkGiraffe1, lucky you missed the first trimester! We are all very jealous. Good luck with the pils, I am avoiding mine right now (trump supporting Americans.)

Char899 · 07/01/2021 18:27

@Bellaphant my midwife wouldn’t be much help considering it takes her 72 hours to come back to me 🙄

FTMF30 · 08/01/2021 11:17

@Bellaphant I would just ignore the midwife and call the hospital direct to chase an appointment. But that's just me being a busybody and not being able to bear the wait!

I'm sure the midwife won't even know if you've done this, mine didn't. She called to tell me I now have a scan date. I was thinking "I know. I had to call and bloody book it myself!" If I listened to my midwife, I think I'd still be waiting for an appointment now. All the midwife can do is chase, but the hospital has the power to actually book the appointment. It might put your mind at ease to actually know what's going on at their end. It could be that they're struggling to fit appointments in. Or that they just need a prompt to actually book the appointments (like mine seemingly did Hmm)

popcorndiva · 08/01/2021 11:46

My midwife has been so much better so far than my last one I had with DS. She has driven to my house to give me a urine sample bottle and paperwork so they can check my uti is gone. Said there has been no changes implemented and partners can still come to 12 week scan.

12 week scan next Friday when I will be 12+4

Bellaphant · 08/01/2021 13:34

They told me that we were still allowed two birth partners: one at the start and then the other one joined in when things got 'fun'. Seemed strange to me, has anyone else been told this?

Mommabear20 · 08/01/2021 14:08

Wow! That's loads better than when I had DD in June! They weren't allowing any partners in until you were in full active labour on labour ward! And even then it was only 1 partner. Fingers crossed it doesn't get worse again and we can have birth partners in the whole time! I'd love my DH to get to experience the whole thing this time. I was induced last time and he wasn't allowed in so he doesn't feel like he got the full experience even though he was able to be at the actual birth, sucks we had to miss out on those hours of preparation together.

OP posts:
Char899 · 08/01/2021 14:50

@Mommabear20 those are exactly the same rules we still have now (only allowed 1 birth partner and only when your literally about to give birth otherwise on your own) dh is allowed to the 12 week scan but that’s the only appointment he is allowed to come to at the moment.

Bellaphant · 08/01/2021 14:56

We are allowed partners at the midwife 'at their discretion': I'm not taking him to the early ones but would love him there when they start to measure/do heartbeats. I'm worried now that it's just local, because I'm moving counties in four months and don't want to lose these extras!

popcorndiva · 08/01/2021 15:32

I have an app with updates for my hospital. Currently partners can come to 12 and 20 week scans but no midwife appointments. One birth partner who can stay with you the whole time till baby is born. They can't come and go though must stay in the room

After birth they get 2 hours per day visiting so hope I don't stay in really

Mommabear20 · 09/01/2021 07:23

Hi y'all!

I just came to say that due to several threads I've read and been apart of in the last few days, I'm going to be taking a break from Mumsnet for a while as many people seen to think the anonymity this platform provides, entitled them to be awful to each other and it's not something that I want to be reading tbh.
I will miss going through this journey with you guys but feel this is for the best for me.

Good luck to you all and I'll have my fingers crossed for happy and healthy mommas and babies for you all at the end of everyone's pregnancy. 🥰

FTMF30 · 09/01/2021 13:44

@Mommabear20 I understand what you mean. Some theeads have some vile comments on there and it seems some people get a kick out of being hurtful.

You might have already left, but can you not just avoid those threads/hide them?

2Under22021 · 09/01/2021 18:46

@popcorndiva yeah in our area we have same rules so partner allowed 12 & 20week scans and 1 in labour.

Ladies, my husband looked at my bump tonight and said 'isn't it amazing women can grow a human being in their bodies' I thought that was so sweet but I did remind him it's bloody hard work especially with a toddler!

@Mommabear20 I see some really horrible stuff on here but I just ignore it. It really says a lot about someone who has to troll others and say nasty comments. Thankfully I think we're all lovely in this group so don't feel you have to miss out on the support because of a few bully's.

18 weeks tomorrow and it feels like it's gone really quick! How you all doing?

X

popcorndiva · 09/01/2021 18:54

I agree with @FTMF30 that is what the hide button is for. I know there is a lot of "why have a baby in a pandemic" going on, but we have all assessed our own risks, situations and hopefully by summer, restrictions will be relaxed anyway.

Just stay away from the Coronavirus topics and AIBU really
