Thank you @pigletpie2177

Every contraction is closer, you're right

ttcchapter1 · 09/01/2021 19:23

just got back from hospital as had a gush of fluid and have been told my contractions are 3 in every 10 minutes. They checked and said my waters were intact. So been sent home.

However, i have a history of vaginismus and the internal examination was extremely uncomfortable for me even with gas and air. Can I decline internal examinations in labour in the NHS?

footprintsintheslow · 09/01/2021 19:58

@ttcchapter1 yes you can refuse anything.

PopsicleHustler · 09/01/2021 20:49

My internal this morning was horrible. Really uncomfortable and painful. But I know it needs to be done. But you should be able to refuse. However it's how they check on your progress. For example if you were dilating to slowly, they wouldn't know without examining you. But it's your choice and I totally agree and feel for you
Wish you all the best. I am currently in a rather ridiculous slow labour with baby number 5 @ttcchapter1

ttcchapter1 · 09/01/2021 21:20

Thank you for responses. I'm a ftm so this is all new. Was told I'm having 3 in every 10 minutes, but i can't seem to tell if they're getting stronger or not. Hows many days could this phase last for?

Lollipop93 · 09/01/2021 21:29

@ttcchapter1 do they feel sore? Three in ten minutes is that not quite a lot. Even though this is my second I’m new to this part of early labour I would say because I was induced before and it’s different. The reason I’m asking is I’m apparently 1-2cm dilating and have been having random niggles on and off but I wouldn’t say enough to call them contractions but maybe they are? God knows haha I’m so confused x

ttcchapter1 · 09/01/2021 21:40

@Lollipop93 well i felt crampy yesterday and more crampy today, i feel my tummy tight but i didnt realise how regular it was happening till the machine told me.. and then she said ur having 3 in every 10 mins. I said i feel them but wudnt say its painful, she said they will gradually get more painful or could even stop and ive just to wait and see and if my waters break then obv definitely call

Lollipop93 · 09/01/2021 21:54

@ttcchapter1Yeah that probably sounds similar to me. Like I’ve been getting tightenings but defo not like that painful yet. I think I remember being hooked up to the machine last pregnancy at about 30 odd weeks and it does tell you how many you get but obv the more intense/ painful they get is when it starts getting interesting haha xx would love to know how dilated I am now but I reckon it’s still 1-2cm. I am getting bad lightning crotch though have u been getting that?

ttcchapter1 · 09/01/2021 23:07

@Lollipop93 yes, been getting that too. I feel like my contractions are getting stronger but im not sure. Will see how i go tonight and if waters break.. really hope things get going over the next 24 hours so I can avoid an induction on Thursday. My husband is packing things like mad 🤣 thankfully hes allowed in with me the whole time but he iust wont be allowed to leave for things if we forget anything.

footprintsintheslow · 09/01/2021 23:11

@ttcchapter1 jealous H can be with you the whole time. Active labour only for us.

My stomach has been going rock solid tonight and dreadful dreadful fanny daggers.

PopsicleHustler · 10/01/2021 06:26

Update: still no baby. Contractions are now either 20 mins or 30 mins apart. Slept for 8 hours which was rather good. Wish this baby will just come now. Currently having a hot bubble bath and then going to clean the house like a mad woman to speed things up.

Hows everyone else coming along?

Lollipop93 · 10/01/2021 06:55

@ttcchapter1 @footprintsintheslow fanny daggers are the worst I’ve woke up with them now too! Is this helping us go into labour or what even are these pains! Argh!!

Hello @PopsicleHustler no sign of labour for me either apart from horrible lightning crotch and some random tightenings. A bubble bath sounds good. I’m going to try be a bit active today and have a bath etc too to see if it can help. That’s good you slept we need our sleep for when labour kicks in but I just hope it’s soon 😂 I washed my hair on Friday thinking hopefully this is the last time I need to do my hair before labour. I think I’ll be doing that a few times now hahaha baby seems to just want to cause lightning crotch but not actually start to come😪

ttcchapter1 · 10/01/2021 06:58

@Lollipop93 been up since 4am had my bloody show and been having really strong contractions since then every 5 minutes. Theyve told me to do as much as I can at home before calling to say i need to come in.

I dont know how much more I can handle at home though, cant lie down through them, having to sit on my ball to get through them.

footprintsintheslow · 10/01/2021 07:00

@@ttcchapter1 wow this is it for you! How exciting. Keep us posted when you can. It sounds like you are progressing well. Keep breathing as it's totally underrated.

ttcchapter1 · 10/01/2021 07:02

@footprintsintheslow i really am beginning to struggle but dont wanna go just to be sent home

PopsicleHustler · 10/01/2021 07:11

Wishing you all the best @ttcchapter1

I can't understand how the early hours of yesterday ineas in bloody agony, yelling for my Dh to get home from work faster to now everything is at a slow pace again. The contractions on Saturday early hours were awful. I thought I would have had my wee girl by now. But no.
I was even on my hands and knees last night scrubbing the bathroom floor to get the party started. Really and truly fed up.

@Lollipop93 we can get through it together. Keep me posted on how things come along for you.

How ridiculous is it that this is baby number 5 and I have been having regular contractions since friday that removed up yesterday and then slowed down again
Feeling very frustrated. They say the more babies you have, the quicker the labours

Not in my bloody case!!!!! Grrrrrr!!!!
I've got quite a lot of things to do around the house today so hoping that will keep me active and bring things on. To be fair I have been resting a lot and lying down since I came home from hospital yesterday morning. Maybe if I do more things it could help bring things up to speed again!!!!

PopsicleHustler · 10/01/2021 07:13

Yes, that's very true @ttcchapter1 you dont want to go to hospital and then find out you're only 2cm like i did. I was struggling a lot yesterday and then found out I was only 2cm. I seriously thought I was more. I guess I have a pretty low pain threshold!

Go to the hospital when its literally the point of no return.

We need some more newborns on this thread!!!

footprintsintheslow · 10/01/2021 08:24

@PopsicleHustler @ttcchapter1 keep going, you can do this and let's face it we have no choice.

I'll be with you tomorrow when I'm induced.

I almost forgot to pack my most important hospital item...a plastic jug to use to pour luke warm water over myself for my post birth wees!!!

Any ftm's this is what I would recommend and wished I'd known the first time.

footprintsintheslow · 10/01/2021 08:27

Also I forgot to say, previously I went from 2cm to 4cm in 6 hours and then 4cm to fully dilated in 15 minutes so you never know what will happen.

One minute the midwife was saying settle in for the night and the next minute the head was out. Keep positive my lovelies this is beginning of the end and all a step closer to having your babies in your arms.

Lollipop93 · 10/01/2021 09:07

That’s a good tip @footprintsintheslow

Another amazing but strange tip that a physio told me about after my last birth is to was take condoms with you. Fill one up with cold water and tie it and put It in your pants after birth and omg instant relief! It just cools everything down instantly and I never had any issues with recovery after having stitches and everything healed nicely. The physio was walking about with them and when she told me to try it I was like hmm yeah ok but now I have a pack of 3 in my hospital bag hahaha! Honestly it works

WhoUsedMyName · 10/01/2021 11:33

For what it's worth ladies
9am examined 2cm
Pain until 4pm
4pm-9pm no pain
9pm waters broke
9.30pm only 4cm I could have cried!!!
10.10pm he was here.
Your dilation could be all over the place don't mean a thing. Hang on in there ladies can't wait to see your babies

Lollipop93 · 10/01/2021 12:07

@WhoUsedMyName I needed to read this! There is defo no rhyme or reason to labour or birth is there! Suppose it just happens the way the baby wants it to and they will make an appearance whenever they like! So true that certain signs or dilation doesn’t mean much xxx

PollyOaks · 10/01/2021 13:46

I had a good day yesterday bit more energy than I've been getting so pottered around the house a bit more but now today I feel very weak and super nauseous so hoping today isn't the day, going to try having a warm bath and a nap and hope the sick feeling will pass

Onekidnoclue · 10/01/2021 14:12

Good luck for speedy and safe deliveries all!
I thought I had some twinges earlier and got all excited. Did a massive fart and it’s all stopped 😳😲

Ooh seems like some of us are getting closer!
I've had my second sweep today! Was a lot more uncomfortable than the first! I was 1cm on Thursday and now I'm 2cm she says! So hopefully this second one will kick start it. But I had it this morning and apart from the odd ache here and there nothing! Any tips for a FTM to get the ball moving after a sweep?

Also what is this jug thing about? Do I need to pack one in my case? 😬
