@VeeVeeBee77 both exactly sure what they do in a sweep although I've had three! Midwife inserts fingers down below and fiddles about a bit. Nothing came of mine but it didn't hurt so worth a go

@oliveroses really hope you don't have preeclampsia but best to know one way or the other.

@Onekidnoclue yes to lip balm! My favourite is a blister one. It solves everything!

WhoUsedMyName · 06/01/2021 08:29

@PopsicleHustler just reading your post I'm baby no 5 and I had fake contractions too they kept stop starting through the day then they stopped at around 4pm 9pm my waters broke 10.10pm He was here and they came thick and fast apparently fake labour is really common when you've had as many children as us but could be a sign your real labour will be fast x

WhoUsedMyName · 06/01/2021 09:23

I'm really overly excited for you all.
My boy will basically be an adult soon. I was saying to family by the time we get out of lock down he will just be that family member that no one knows who's randomly appears at weddings 😂

Lollipop93 · 06/01/2021 09:35

@WhoUsedMyName haha that’s so true lol!! I really hope we get to enjoy some of our mat leave in the real world this year!!

I am having a sweep today at 2pm. I am 38+3, interested to see if it will do anything lol.

bluemonday2020 · 06/01/2021 09:47

@Lollipop93 let us know how it goes!

WhoUsedMyName · 06/01/2021 11:34

I'm 40+6 and booked for an induction on Friday when I'll be 40+8.

Do any STM and TTM have advice for induction birth preferences?

Part of me thinks its pointless having birth preferences at all. Every time I discuss options with MW and the hospital I get different information. I had one MW tell me I can have a foley catheter and the pessary, and I can use a birth pool while I've got the pessary in. I discussed it with a doctor who doctor who said they don't use pessaries since it's just repeating the foley catheter step and they go straight to the synthetic oxytocin drip. I can't set out preferences if I can't get correct information from anyone on what the process the hospital will follow! What is even the point?

All I can think of is asking for the environment to be managed so it's calm, dark and quiet, ask for delayed cord clamping, and ask for management of any emergency c-section environment including my husband finding out the sex first and telling me.

I haven't seen my mum since September due to covid and I just want a hug from her.

Onekidnoclue · 06/01/2021 13:28

@wigglerose that does sound shitty. You can make some preferences which aren’t directly related I think. Such as saying yes to vitamin k and wanting skin to skin ASAP.
I’m afraid I know nothing about induction but hopefully someone who does will be along shortly.
I would have thought some pain relief options would be worth putting your preferences for. I don’t like opiates but want an epidural the minute I step inside the hospital so that’s on my birth plan and I don’t think an induction would impact that.
Good luck! And pack snacks!

@Lollipop93 thinking of you this afternoon (if that's not too weird to say given your situation!)

Have we heard from @Grumpy19? Maybe I've missed an update.

@wigglerose I'm a STM and so far have said I don't want an induction but I'm already wavering and I'm not even 38w yet. If I got beyond 40 I'd think about it. Not on that they've been so unclear with you though! Do you know which consultant will be with you on the day?

First time I had an elective C Section due to breech baby and I've just reminded myself what my birth plan said - it was pretty detailed but I'm not sure anyone read it! Would you want to add something about skin to skin immediately afterwards? They started to get my baby dressed and DH had to ask them not to.

Grumpy19 · 06/01/2021 14:15

Hi. I'm in hospital now waiting for doctors to examine me and decide on pessary/waters breaking or drip. 🙂

WhoUsedMyName · 06/01/2021 14:28

@Grumpy19 your so near now keep us posted

footprintsintheslow · 06/01/2021 14:52

@Grumpy19 good luck, I'm very excited for you!

@wigglerose I'm the sort of person that thinks the birth plans are a bit pointless. I just want to be open minded and do as I'm told. I know I don't want forceps but if that what was needed at the time I'd just agree.

My last birth was an induction and I haven't heard of any of the things you've mentioned. They broke my waters and I was two weeks overdue. I didn't want a drip straight away as I wanted to be free to crochet and not have a cannula in. After hours of nothing I went on a drip and it all happened quite quickly.

I do know that I want to cut the cord myself and I also know I want to take my placenta home this time! Sounds a bit hippyish but it's my last child and I want to plant a tree over it.

Lollipop93 · 06/01/2021 15:14

Hey! So that went not bad. It is obv uncomfy and think I nearly squeezed the hand off the midwife. Luckily the consultant was a woman with small fingers so wasn’t as bad as the one I’ve had before haha. So she says I’m 1-2cm dilated which I know doesn’t really mean anything but it’s better than nothing. She says she doubts I will need induced which is good because I wanted to avoid that but obv I know if there is no sign of baby 40+14 then I will have to lol.

Very interesting! I wonder if anything will come of it! Now I’m home and bored after that little bit of excitement hahaha

WhoUsedMyName · 06/01/2021 15:18

@Lollipop93 now go wild on the birthing ball

Lollipop93 · 06/01/2021 15:32

@WhoUsedMyName that sounds like a plan!! I will do that now haha. What dilation were you when you had yours?

Lollipop93 · 06/01/2021 15:38

@Grumpy19 good luck! Keep us posted xx

wigglerose · 06/01/2021 15:49

Thanks everyone. I rang my mum and had a bit of a cry and feel much better. I think it's just lockdown getting to me.
