@RosieJess91 I’m glad they are finally suggesting some solutions for you, fingers crossed it’s something that can easily be sorted with the right medicine!

@JJo58995 I completely understand what you mean! I am almost 25 weeks now and feeling the baby a bit every day but I still panic when he doesn’t move at his usual times - like this morning I didn’t feel him move when I woke up when I normally do. It will get easier every day, honestly!

@Ew1990 I don’t have any children but my friend who is about to have her second is having the same experience as you with her son hitting her and the bump, so I think it’s common (although I’m sure that doesn’t make it any easier!) Hopefully she will be excited once the baby is actually here? My niece was a menace about her new brother at first but 6 months in they are so lovely with each other

Sakura54 · 18/12/2020 12:24

@Smilingdonkey Ah so my SIL was right then. Hmm that’s interesting seeing as you and I got pregnant at similar times and for the purpose of this pregnancy I’m using my parents’ address, although I referred myself and had my booking appt very early though at 5w! TBH it’s a bit late for that now lol but I’ve been fine with seeing different people. I have my MW appts elsewhere at the local MW place though, you?

Wait, so how did you get the cloth nappies incentive, as I checked Newham and saw they didn’t offer it?

That doesn’t sound good. Hope the iron will make you feel better. I was given iron tablets with my first but I felt fine. This time I’ve been told that my levels are really good, but they’ve arranged another blood test to check it again soon which is just as well as the last few days my breathlessness seems to be worsening and I can feel my heart beating hard sometimes. I know it’s a normal pregnancy thing though, but better to be safe.

@Pugprincess I stayed in hospital for days and everything I had packed was enough. You don’t need that much stuff and these days they want to get rid of you quickly, even after a CS apparently. I didn’t really bleed much but I use Tena pads that are huge and thick. It’s best to bring big knickers and loose clothing that you don’t mind chucking away, baring in mind that if you end up having an EMCS, clothes needs to go way above the wound. I also prefer black knickers lol. I like to travel light so I also take little bottles of toiletries in case you want to shower there.

@Sakura54 thank you, I'm thinking a loose t-shirt nightie with nothing on underneath for giving birth? It's kind of knee length but so baggy I can pull it up easily. Tena lady is a good shout. I wondered about always nighttime pads as they are huge so. Should give a good coverage? I just expect to be changing them frequently at first I guess unless I'm lucky and not to heavy, no idea what to expect lol.

Something I've been worrying about, if you are in hospital alone after birth and need the toilet what do you do with the baby... I feel like I'm not going to want to take my eyes off them. My friend said with her first they put all alarm inside the baby grow so that nobody could take them but that also meant you couldn't take them to the toilet with you. Unless you can wheel the cot? I'm assuming I'd be on a ward with other people. But even if in own room I still don't want to leave them. I suppose you can call a nurse to watch but I don't even know how happy I am about that after reading scary news articles recently 😔 sorry if I seem I'm being over the top it's probably my anxiety too x

Smilingdonkey · 18/12/2020 15:18

@sakura54 I have my midwife apps at home mainly. I go in for scans and tests obviously but otherwise she comes to my flat in the evenings - it is convenient I have to say!
We didn't get a cloth nappy incentive sadly we just bought them second hand and cheap initially until we found out what we liked!
🤞 Your iron levels are good again xxx

SkyBlue20 · 18/12/2020 16:59

Thanks for the lovely comments on the pics everyone - I definitely picked the ones where I didn't look as big and am happy with the selections. So excited to do our announcement now but still two weeks to go...

@Sakura54 That's such lovely news about your SIL! I think I remember you mentioning their MC, so happy they're pregnant again.

@Dipsy77 Completely get the worry about your DD, I'm sure she'll be absolutely fine and then very excited to come home to her new siblings 🥰

@DanceM1 Yeah, I'd read in a few places that Love Hearts help acid reflux so tried it and it works for me! It's horrible when you're eating them as seems even more acidic but it does calm it down afterwards. No idea how it works but I've got four packets on my desk next to me now - I won't be without them 😂
Definitely can't do any harm in taking your mum's advice! I bought something like six packs of nappies and a LOT of wipes over Black Friday just because it was cheap but have therefore inadvertently stockpiled a bit. Would have got more nappies but wasn't sure on sizes so didn't want to go too crazy.

@Pugprincess Starting on the 28th sounds like a good plan. That's the date we've pencilled in to paint the nursery, too, so we can have a DIY day together!
Hadn't even thought about that with baby and the toilet - I wouldn't want to leave them alone either. My trust is now allowing one designated visitor between 9am and 9pm every day so will just have to get all of my toilet visits in while DH is there 😂

@Poppy10121 Good point about stocking up on hospital bag bits in case of shortages/another lockdown. Maybe I'll start between Xmas and new year. Must make a list.

Off to Ikea again tonight to get the bits we couldn't get on Monday - it's the last thing I want to do! But first, must finish up at work. We finalised my cover for mat leave today - still a lot to sort but it's beginning to feel more and more real!! 😬

RosieJess91 · 18/12/2020 17:16

My appointment isn't until Monday, so I've still got a few days before I actually find out what's wrong with me. Been really sick today, just completely out of the blue and I bent down to lift something off the floor and now I have an almost stitch like feeling in my left side and have started feeling dizzy and faint again. Why does this keep happening to me?!
I really just wanted to have an almost simple pregnancy and be thankful the entire way through that I hadn't lost a third, but all I'm doing is complaining because I'm always in pain or feeling like I want to fall over. 😭😭

bubblybon20 · 18/12/2020 18:36

@Pugprincess not sure if your hospital is similar, but in the maternity unit I went to with my boys, you're in your own room, and theirs a toilet/shower room in there! Which was really reassuring, as I just left the door open so I could still seen them 😂

Workingmama1 · 18/12/2020 19:17

I wrote out a massive message yesterday but it didn't post!

@skyblue20 your pictures are gorgeous, it's actually making me consider getting some. With my daughter i took pictures every week and this time barely any, maybe I could make up for it with a maternity shoot!

@rosiejess91 hopefully if it is anemia iron tablets will sort it out quickly!

@pugprincess you need the heavy duty maternity pads not just period nighttime ones, there can be a fair amount of blood plus they are thicker so more comfy if you have stitches. A big nighty will be fine for birth, I took something was was only in hospital for 3 hours before giving birth so gave birth in just my bra in the end. (Didn't even manage to out my leggings on to walk from triage to the labour room 🤣, I fact I didnt manage to walk to the room.and a squatted and said I wanted to push halfway there so they rushed me round in a wheelchair!)

Also leaving the baby to wee is a good question. I tried to go while my husband was there but one time when he wasn't i really needed to go so I had to leave her. She was crying when I came back and I felt awful! It would probably bother me less this time as I know 5 minutes of crying when I pee won't cause them any long term damage!

We have the decorators coming in to redo the nursery mid Jan, I'll be 28 weeks then I think. There isn't much to do as we sorted carpet ect for my daughter so it's just wallpaper and painting.

Also viability day for me today at 24 weeks! Feels like a big milestone.

Workingmama1 · 18/12/2020 19:20

This isnthe wallpaper we have for the nursery, I love it! You give them your room measures and they make sure all the animals fit

Smilingdonkey · 18/12/2020 19:40

@skyblue20 refreshers work too if you fancy a change!

Smilingdonkey · 18/12/2020 19:49

@pugprincess my experience of pads is the bigger the better! And I bought like two packets and that lasted me about 24 hours 😫 I had no idea the bleeding went on for 6 weeks 🤣 One thing I did was to sprinkle them with water and put them in the freezer - it was such a relief to get the cold on the sore bits! Also Spritz for your Bitz is great! Another bit of advice someone gave me was to shave as much off as you can before birth because you can't afterwards and it is much easier to deal with the bleeding with less hair (sorry that is gross isn't it? I'm just so glad she warned me because by that point in my pregnancy I really had given up maintaining that area 🤣)

I'm sure I read the other day that women will now be allowed one person with them in hospital. My friend had a C section recently and was in for 5 days and her partner wasn't allowed in and she had to leave the baby alone while she showered after being in labour for 3 days 😔 because the midwives were so busy. I think she was in a private room so not as bad as it would have been if she was on a ward. 😔 still not great!

Smilingdonkey · 18/12/2020 19:54

@workingmama1 love the wallpaper and agree re. Nightie ... I think I gave birth in a hospital gown in the end! I would say the most important think for me was the fresh clean nightie with buttons for breastfeeding which I put on after my first shower!

Lollol86 · 18/12/2020 21:32

@Pugprincess with my first I gave birth in a big cheapie nightie from primark, with my second I just had a thin strapped vest top on. Both times I had to stay over night and was on a ward rather than my own room, I would take my baby to the toilet with me, the cots have wheels on them so you can move them xx

Lollol86 · 18/12/2020 21:35

@Pugprincess also make sure you get big maternity pads rather than sanitary towels as you bleed very heavy after birth xx

ew1990 · 18/12/2020 21:35

I gave birth last time wearing just one of dps t shirts that I threw away afterwards.

Maternity pads by twice as many as you think you'll need 😂😂

@smilingdonkey I really need to do some grooming down there but I cannot see anything 🙈 gunna have to use a mirror.

I've just had a proper good cry, I'm so emotional. Asked the doctor for some anti sickness meds today and then got a text saying they've left me a weeks sick note at reception. Rang up and they didn't even read what I wrote just gave me a sick note when I've already got one for another 2 weeks. It's so bad honestly I've got no appetite what so ever and just picking at bits of stuff all day - it can't be good for me.

Hope everyone enjoys there Weekend and time off for those who have broke up for Christmas

JoJo58995 · 18/12/2020 22:10

Wow so many messages I've just managed to catch up! I want to reply to everything but my brain is too tired after a long day so I apologise because I just won't be able to remember everything (or much for that matter!) Lots of great tips from everyone with hospital bags and weeing with a newborn thank you....(hadn't even thought of that!) I think I'd be wheeling her in with me, don't like the idea of leaving her alone.
@SkyBlue20 your pics are gorgeous!
@Poppy10121 I'm glad you're feeling regular movement but yeah I can imagine the worry then shifts to patterns etc, I keep trying to remember I just need to be patient. I feel like I feel her less now than I did. I'm on my feet all day whizzing around at work all day so I barely get the chance to stop and think about whether I can feel anything, then when I do relax in the evenings before I was feeling flutters and now I don't feel like I can feel them as much. When they started scanning her at my 20w scan on Monday her heart did something a bit odd, went a bit slow and irregular, had a pause then sped back up to normal. It was all very quick, the sonographer said straight away it was completely normal and checked everything and said it was fine, but I still can't help but worry. I keep trying to remember quite a few of you haven't had consistent movement until a few weeks from where I am now but I'm just struggling with it at the moment 🤦‍♀️

JoJo58995 · 18/12/2020 22:11

@ew1990 and @RosieJess91 I'm so sorry you're both feeling so rubbish at the moment. Really hoping you both start to feel a bit better soon 💕💕

Smilingdonkey · 18/12/2020 23:27

@ew1990 I'm so sorry the sickness has come back. This happened to me with my DD in the 3rd trimester and I found Rennie's helped (even though it wasn't heartburn) I suspected that it was caused by my digestive system being so squashed etc. as it felt a bit different to the morning sickness in the beginning. I hope it goes soon 😔 Sickness is by far the worst pregnancy thing xxxxx

Smilingdonkey · 18/12/2020 23:31

#jojo58995 I didn't get any regular movement until about 24 weeks even though I have been able to feel her since about 20w - try not to worry as it's completely normal I think ☺️ I would say it's only in the past 2 weeks that I could confidently say I felt a pattern forming (and I'm 29 weeks tomorrow ) and the midwife has not been concerned about it at all xxxxx

Pugprincess · 18/12/2020 23:36

Aw thanks so much for the tips guys I'm making notes and will start ordering bits I think. Where can you buy good maternity pads? I like the idea of being able to wheel the cot in with me I hope I can do that. And even better if you get a room with a toilet in. All these bridges I guess I will have to cross when I come to it as I suppose there's so many different ways this could all go, you just can't plan it can you. Think thats my anxiety though I like to be in control so I'm overthinking and imagining every possible scenario.

How much do you bleed after then that scares me, like do you feel it pouring out constantly. Does it hurt like a period? I feel like I will worry I'm bleeding to death and have bad panic attacks. Like how would you know what's normal and when to seek help.

Regarding shaving down there I'm struggling too as I can no longer see mine either 😂 think I might need to use a mirror too. Trouble is I usually do it in the bath with a razor but I think to use a mirror a dry shave might be required. It's all fun and games isn't it. Thinking about the blood and hair I was thinking when I was last trying to shave that it's nice to not have now either cause of all the discharge and the frequency of wees we do lol.

I will be 23 weeks tomorrow. I've not noticed a pattern with movements yet either. Just as I think one might be emerging it then changes lol.

I swear my dog senses something as he's been all over my husband and is ignoring me more lol. X

Pugprincess · 18/12/2020 23:42

Ooo is that perenium massage stuff a good idea, has anyone tried that before to prepare x

@pugprincess I remember the bleeding lasted a few weeks after DD,it was really really heavy at first and then tailed off to just like a period, I bought boots maternity pads. I had stitches too and really recommend pouring a jug of water Iver your bits when you wee as it really stung me. And nobody warned me about after pains too so that came as quite a shock. You'll be fine though it's so worth it

ew1990 · 19/12/2020 00:05

@smilingdonkey thank you. Yeah it's so different to morning sickness it feels like I've Constantly got a vomiting bug, I've just drank a glass of water and it really feels like it's going to come back up. I hope I don't end up having to go to hospital if I can't keep water Down.

Pugprincess · 19/12/2020 00:06

@ew1990 ooo thanks I will remember the jug of water trick that makes sense. I've found packs of 30 pads, how many packs is a good number to start with x
