How is everyone doing?

I had my 31 week appointment this evening.
The baby is 2/5 ths, engaged and measuring in the 100th percentile (where previous measurements were all in the 50th percentile).

Midwife said that sometimes it's just because the baby is in a funny angle which makes them measure bigger than they usually are but I've been told I need a glucose tolerance test just in case and then if the baby is still measuring big at the 34 week appointment, it would be a growth scan.

Has anyone had something similar?

jalu47 · 21/10/2020 22:29

@december2020 a few of us were chatting back and forth about this yesterday as we are in similar positions.

I had my 32 week scan on Monday and baby is at 95th percentile (up from I think 60th at 28 weeks). My full glucose test a week ago was ok but after I saw the consultant on Tuesday I've started glucose monitoring for two weeks as well. First two readings this morning were over but post lunch and dinner have been ok so will see what happens.

Potentially looking at a 37 week induction but i do have some other health complications adding to this decision.

The scans do seem to be much more accurate than the tape so fingers crossed for you at 34 weeks!

Sheera1 · 21/10/2020 22:32

@amyyy1 sending you hugs and positive vibes. You are in the right place and lots of monitoring. My friend on a other group just had her baby at 34 weeks. Waters broke at 33 weeks. Baby and mummy are doing great and coming home tomorrow. No need for special care unit. Healthy wee boy.
They will decide the best course and keep you both safe. Have never heard of an iron transfusion. Xx

december2020 · 21/10/2020 23:24

@jalu47 oh gosh, I'm so behind on this thread, it moves so quickly! I'll catch up properly tomorrow morning on how everyone is going through this.

Was there something that determined going to glucose monitoring after the test came out normal if you don't mind me asking? How are you feeling otherwise? Hopefully all ok Thanks

I'm going to try not stress and just see what happens at the 34 week appointment and the test result comes in (easier said than done of course).

jalu47 · 22/10/2020 07:50

@december2020 I had the full glucose test, which was normal, about 2 weeks ago and then had a scan early this week. As baby is so big they were going to rerun the test in a few weeks but as I'm 32 weeks now and consultant was already talking about induction at 37 they decided to just go for glucose monitoring.. I had just seen the consultant (that's due to my Crohn's disease), was at the hospital already and the diabetic clinic was running concurrently so chatted to one of the nurses there and then. Think it was just all those circumstances together!

Best of luck with your 34 week appt and keep us posted!

peachypetite · 22/10/2020 07:50

@Amyyy1 hope you got some rest? It does seem like a lot of us are suddenly having complications at the same time, and all having big babies. I wish I could fast forward a few weeks

jalu47 · 22/10/2020 07:52

@Amyyy1 hope you had a good night and manage to get some good rest. As everyone has said you are in the best place and always good to have extra monitoring. Sending happy thoughts!

december2020 · 22/10/2020 07:52

@peachypetite I'm in a similar situation to you but about 2 weeks behind. Just got the first measurements of the baby being on the 100th centile and now needing to book the glucose test. I'm really hoping it's just the baby being in an awkward position and therefore measuring big externally.

I'm only 5'2, so a little nervous as well having a vaginal birth if he is indeed a giant.

A silly question but when you do glucose monitoring at home, how is it done? Is it a needle? Giant needle phobe here, I get light headed and then pass out on some occasions 😬.

@NaomiB79 congrats on the maternity leave!! Yay!!

december2020 · 22/10/2020 07:59

@jalu47 I'm 32 weeks as well, it looks like I'm 2 weeks behind the testing you had done, they're wanting me to do the fasted glucose test - no eating for 12 hours 😭😭😭 and I'm always hungry these days 🙈
Thank you for sharing your story, how are you feeling?
They haven't mentioned early induction yet, I suppose it will depend on the outcome of the tests and next external measurements.

Amyyy1 · 22/10/2020 08:42

@peachypetite it does seem strange we all seem to be having issues at the same time! My baby is also measuring 100th percentile currently.

Interestingly they picked up a few contractions on the monitor last night but I did not feel a thing - hoping rather stupidly that when I do go into labour I won't feel them then too🤣

peachypetite · 22/10/2020 08:54

Two people close to me have just had positive corona tests too. Once I finish work I’m pretty much just going to isolate at home until my due date.

NaomiB79 · 22/10/2020 09:52

@peachypetite you might be asked to isolate before then if you are identified as a close contact through contact tracing. The cases are increasing rapidly I'm just going to stay home as much as I can until my baby comes too.

@Amyyy1 that made me smile.....pain free contractions during labour would be amazing! 🤣🤣

peachypetite · 22/10/2020 10:04

Ah by close I mean friend/family but thank god I’ve been someone erring on the cautious side and I’ve not been socialising.

Babyhope98 · 22/10/2020 10:45

Had my midwife appointment and now I’m measuring big rather than small like last time, so got to have another scan next week 😂

Pinktruffle · 22/10/2020 11:47

I hope you are home and feeling better soon @amyyy1

I had my 35 week midwife appointment today. I'm still quite high on the centiles, 93% now but its always been fairly high. Baby's heart rate was 126 today which worried me a bit but midwife didn't seem too bothered, she just said baby was chilling out.

My mood has taken a huge nose dive today. I've just woken up feeling tearful and shite. I just want to sit and cry. I'm guessing its hormones but I feel crap, I really miss my family and friends, the Covid resurrgance is bothering me and all ny hair is falling out. The hair fallingnout has been through the qhole 3rd trimester but it seems to be ramping up. My blood tests were fine and I'm taking extra iron and Vitamin D so don't know whats going on.
I haven't seen my sister since June and miss her so much. She lives 2 hours away with my parents and I feel like I just want to go home Sad

NaomiB79 · 22/10/2020 12:45

We're going to have to rename this thread 'The Big Baby Club' soon there are loads of us who's baby's are measuring big as we get towards the end! 😂

@Pinktruffle sorry you are feeling really down today. I get like that too over Covid and not being able to see friends and family. It really is rubbish, for me it makes it worse that there is no end in sight so can't plan things to look forward to! The Scottish Govt were saying today that we need to prepare for a digital Christmas as it's unlikely we'll get to spend it with our family which is just awful!

I think a lot of the ups and downs with our mood are hormone related just now too, hope you feel better soon x

Babyhope98 · 22/10/2020 12:50

Yes looks like we are all in the same boat at the moment 😅 @NaomiB79 it’s reassuring that I’m not the only one. I was more worried when she was measuring small tbh. Atleast I get to see her again 😆

@Pinktruffle I have days like this were I feel emotional I started crying in bed the other night to my partner as I was just feeling anxious about if the baby will be ok I think it’s the hormones x

Asianchick6693 · 22/10/2020 13:06

@Pinktruffle I too have been feeling teary this past week. I miss my family too, they're in Wales which is 4.5 hours away from me and they're also going into a strict 2 week lockdown from Friday. I haven't seen them for months. I feel upset at the fact that my mum and dad, siblings probably won't get to see their granddaughter/niece for God knows how long. Also the fear of labour and being a FTM is kicking in.

Whatinthename20 · 22/10/2020 13:16

Silly question- does everyone get a growth scan around 36 weeks? I’m 36 weeks tomorrow and never heard of one. I have no idea what centile my baby is? My bump has measured normally each appointment. Although the midwife at my 34 week app didn’t even bother to plot it on the chart so I had to do it myself when I got homeHmm

peachypetite · 22/10/2020 13:17

I’ve also cried this week!! Combination of sleep deprivation, stress of finishing work and being told I’d need to be referred for more tests. We’ve got this.

NaomiB79 · 22/10/2020 13:37

@Whatinthename20 it's not standard to have a growth scan at 36 weeks they are usually only done if they think your baby is measuring big or small or there are other potential concerns that they are recommended. Usually it's just 12 weeks and 20 weeks scans and that's it.

BG1234 · 22/10/2020 14:34

I’ve been crying all the time I must say!

In my trust they were only offering scans at 36 weeks as standard during COVID. So months ago I was booked in for one today, which was then cancelled last week because they are trying to return to normal.

However, despite midwife saying yesterday it was fine that bump measured on 100th centile, today the consultant has said it’s ‘excessive growth’ and has booked me in for a scan next week. So they should have just not cancelled my scan today.

You couldn’t make it up!!

BG1234 · 22/10/2020 14:43

Sorry, 97th centile not 100th.

That’s big baby brain for you Grin

Kj1010 · 22/10/2020 14:49

@@bg1234 I'm consultant led and they booked me in for growth scans at 28 32 36 weeks then all 3 cancelled without letting me know then had phone consult then they revoked for 30 34 and 38 weeks so silly just stick to what u book as they cancelled first lit due to covid lol then rebooked straight way I'm hoping my next scan shows baby has moved into right position as currently breech

BG1234 · 22/10/2020 16:02

@Kj1010- it really doesn’t sound like they know what they’re doing! That sounds harsh, I know they are all working hard individually it just seems like the system is really struggling and is so disjointed. I’m seeing/speaking to so many different professionals and just keep getting told different things. Getting to the last stage where I should be relaxing a bit but there’s just so much stress.
Fingers crossed for your next scan x
