Ah girls it really is the final stretch. Sorry to hear some of you are having concerns and worries. I have my fingers crossed that all is well with everyone's pregnancies and it is as pleasant and safe as it can be when it's time for baby to come.

Going through insomnia myself, getting up every hour/2 hours to pee and seeing as I've been off work since 29 weeks, it's becoming harder to want to go out. Just feel drained all the time. My PGP has massively improved but that's probably because I'm barely doing anything. My physio advised against even going for walks. Hope everyone has a decent day today :)

Snowwhite2020 · 21/10/2020 08:29

@peachypetite sorry to hear you are feeling anxious. I’m also not sure what high velocity means? I would assume something to do with quick movement but not sure what is moving quickly if that makes sense? Or is it a medical term for fast growth? If you are anxious, what you want to know in terms of the birth is the head circumference- a big/ heavy baby has “better” outcomes for vaginal birth than even lighter babies in that gravity can help them come out without intervention but the head circumference can be more of a challenge depending on how big you are looking at. Did they do measurements? They do head, tummy and femur for growth scans and then they can do a calculation from there. The other thing to bear in mind is that scans can be inaccurate- I’ve been told 25% of the time by consultant- I’ve now had 3 by 3 different sonographers so it doesn’t seem too likely that they’re waaaay out and I’m sure @NaomiB79 feels the same! We’ve been monitored for a while! I also wouldn’t pay any attention to fundal height measurement (tummy measurement by midwife) as that really could be for a million reasons that that is high or low... I hope that helps. Phone your midwife and discuss it with her would be my best advice. Xx

Snowwhite2020 · 21/10/2020 08:38

The other thing is that these are all just “trends” it doesn’t mean it will definitely happen in childbirth- people have difficult births with small babies and easy births with big babies and vice versa and apparently the position you give birth in is really important and makes a big difference... and often they just don’t know why things progress easier with some people than others! There really is no way to know how it will go so maybe we should all just chill :) Try not to worry- what will happen will happen and that goes for every birth in my mind. Much love to everyone xxx

peachypetite · 21/10/2020 08:42

I missed a word out it should be fetal growth velocity - sonographer said the baby had grown faster than expected. Just didn’t really expect to be referred to a consultant at this late stage! Pregnancy has been very eye opening. It’s such a long, anxious process which can have an effect on any part of your body!

Jellycat2020 · 21/10/2020 08:51

"people have difficult births with small babies and easy births with big babies and vice versa"

Exactly! My cousin, who's around 5'4", popped out an 8lb 10oz boy in 90mins....🤞🤞🤞

NaomiB79 · 21/10/2020 09:28

@peachypetite I would definitely phone your midwife and discuss it all with her if they didn't really do that at the hospital. They probably will monitor you more closely now, they might do another scan, so they can try and work out why the growth has been quite sudden.

I do agree with the comments about even the scans not being that accurate sometimes, I had a friend who was told her baby would be 10lb at birth and she ended up 6lb 7oz at full term!

There are a few of us on here worried about delivering bigger babies and we've all had different advice about options etc. I think it is quite and individual thing and I'm sure your midwifes or consultant will recommend options which are best for you as things progress over the next few weeks. Take care and let us know how things develop x

peachypetite · 21/10/2020 09:54

@NaomiB79 saw her yesterday and she just said next step would be a referral to consultant, mentioned possibility of too much fluid as another reason but I think it’s beyond her remit. I’ll hopefully feel better after my hospital appointment! Thank you Flowers

Snowwhite2020 · 21/10/2020 09:58

Totally agree with @NaomiB79 xx

Sheera1 · 21/10/2020 10:13

@peachypetite I would be anxious too as we can't not be especially when something throws us for a loop at the last min. I have been recommended elective section throughout at at 33 weeks had a registrar try and talk me out of it!!??

See what the consultant says. At my last scan 33 weeks, they said baby was 5pounds 11 and 90th centile. But when they used the growth chart in my notes the same measurement was 75th centile. Big difference.

With DS they were predicting well over 10 pounds at due date, but late at 42 weeks he was 9 pounds 4 and that was 2 weeks overdue. Large yes, but massive no and o ly 58th centile.

See what they say. Take the extra scans and help as it is a good thing at this late stage.

I think try and not have a picture perfect birth plan too fixed in your mind. I went with, what needs to happen happens. If you are giving birth naturally and worried about it or struggling, they will get you into theatre.

Hopefully another scan will help but the sonographer did say to me they were not accurate.

I feel you @Asianchick6693. I can't really walk far or stand for long at the moment I get a numb leg and exhausting. Oft you must be going spare since 29 weeks. When are you due? It is all a bit groundhog day isn't it the waiting. Don't remember feeling like this with DS. I think as I have a section date it is making it worse than an u known of when I could go into labour?

jalu47 · 21/10/2020 10:52

It really does seem like lots of us have been told we are having big babies!

I've started my glucose monitoring today and my pre-breakfast and post-breakfast readings were both over.. they said if I have 3 high readings in a week then to contact them, looks like that could be by end of day! GD is now looking more likely and might explain baby's growth in the last few weeks.

Asianchick6693 · 21/10/2020 11:50

@Sheera1 I'm currently 33 weeks, my due date is 6th December 😭 I have plenty I could be doing to prepare. I've still got baby shopping left to do. Only small bits and bobs but I'm soooo tired all the time. I went to boots the other day to get my sister in law's birthday gift. I love the Christmas 3 for 2 offers they have but oh my gosh I was absolutely shattered.

@jalu47 I'm also monitoring myself since last Thursday. I've only had 1 reading last night after my evening meal but I took the reading nearly 2 hours after eating rather than 1 hour and it was only 0.9 over. My MW said to phone up if I had 2 high readings. Every place varies. Hope you're okay. Have they said what the next steps are? With me they just said all I would have to do if I am showing signs of GD, is to keep monitoring my blood glucose, control my diet and that's it no treatment.

jalu47 · 21/10/2020 11:55

@Asianchick6693 not sure of next steps really, I think it depends on how over the readings are and what I ate beforehand so I'm keeping a food diary via the app that it is all synced to. Once i hit 3 high readings I'll contact the diabetic team.

If there are diet adjustments they can make, think that would be the first move but I don't think I eat masses of carbs / sugar and diet is fairly balanced but we'll see! I have heard of some women having to use insulin but hoping to avoid that..

BG1234 · 21/10/2020 11:58

Just had my 36 wk midwife appointment. At the 34wk I was measuring in 90th and today measured 97th. I asked should I be worried and she said no, it’s still a healthy curve. She’s not worried about diabetes or anything.
It really does vary...

jalu47 · 21/10/2020 12:12

@BG1234 blimey, can't believe the variation in what we are all being told!

BG1234 · 21/10/2020 12:45

@jalu47 I know! I have a consultant appointment tomorrow about other issues so I might just ask her as well as an aside.

I was also supposed to have a general 36 week scan tomorrow which I thought might help with size but now that’s been cancelled as apparently that was only for extra reassurance during COVID.

jalu47 · 21/10/2020 14:00

@BG1234 best of luck with that appt, would be interested to hear what she says!

Kj1010 · 21/10/2020 14:55

Afternoon all I'm sorry some of u are having this worry my midwife wont measure my tummy because I'm having growth scans as she said if she was to and measured big or small they wont scan me because I'm having growth scans so she doesn't want any unnessasraily worry plus she thinks the scans are more accurate than tape measurements I have my next scan on 3rd November but was told baby measuring fine at mo and currently weighs 3lb10 but consultant has mentioned all possibilities of csection shoulder dysplasia heavy bleeding etc has recommended to me about having a sweep in the week I'm due to see if it brings on labour as I will only be allowed to go 1 day over my due date as being 42 the more I'm left they said higher risk of still birth which is scary I was asked if I wanted a csection as had one b4 etc I have said no as asmuch as it hurts natural csection really do in my opinion put u back in healing etc .I've been having rough nights now for a while just cant get comfortable and the getting up peeing just a pain yesterday I came over feeling very funny and faint dunno why at work they really have eased my workload now the cover is in I'm basically just going in and making sure she does everything correct etc just a shame it's at like 5.30 In morning lol

NaomiB79 · 21/10/2020 16:02

That’s my out of office on and maternity leave officially started! Hoping for a little bit of rest and relaxation before the baby comes and a decent night’s sleep becomes a distant memory 😂.

Can’t wait to meet our baby girl - not long to wait now!

👣 Due November/December 2020 - on the home stretch… 👣
peachypetite · 21/10/2020 16:21

Congrats @NaomiB79!! What’s on the agenda? Has anyone heard from chubbyhotchoc? Can’t seem to tag her.

kkr168 · 21/10/2020 16:59

@peachypetite I asked the same a few weeks back but got no reply, I've not seen @MummyShark97 post in a little while either, hope they are both ok.

MsBee13 · 21/10/2020 19:56

@NaomiB79 Nice! I have my last week next week and the stress and pressure to finish everything at work is on! I keep telling myself: "One more week to go" :-)

Sheera1 · 21/10/2020 20:27

@kj1010
That is exactly how I felt on Monday. Very faint and dizzy. Stayed all day. I went in for monitoring as had some other potential pre-eclampsia signs but everything was normal. Dr thought maybe dehydration but have been drinking and seeing loads. Everything measured normal. See how you feel and give them a call if worried x

Amyyy1 · 21/10/2020 20:51

So I had my 34 week midwife appointment today, she sent me to hospital for absent movement, they found strong heart beat but kept the monitor on, they've decided I'll have an iron transfusion and heart scan?? Tomorrow morning so are keeping me in over night to continue monitoring baby. Been very upset all day and out of the loop not really knowing what the plan was or what was happening. Feel a bit better now I've got some snacks to see me through the evening

NaomiB79 · 21/10/2020 21:15

@Amyyy1 sounds like you've had a stressful day but you're in the best place to be looked after and monitored. I think sometimes things aren't very well explained so don't be scared to ask lots of questions if you aren't sure about things, you deserve to be clear on what the plan is and why you are there. Glad you are feeling a bit better now. Take care and keep us posted on how you and baby are doing xx

Amyyy1 · 21/10/2020 21:37

@NaomiB79 Thank you, I am kicking myself for not speaking up and asking before now but I was just so in my head and anxious at the time I wasn't thinking very rationally😅
On the plus side (if there is one) it's given me a chance to have a look around the labour suites and birthing unit!
