Hi everyone, just catching up on the thread. It does seem like there is a lot going on with babies measuring big and confusion with appointments. Also I can relate to the random feelings of sadness and anxiety.. I've had that on the odd day recently and I can't even explain why. Think it is just hormones.

Asking this out of curiosity rather than worry, as I'm pretty sure everything is fine (call it mother's instinct!) but I'm 33+1 and I was in hospital today for reduced movements (2nd time this has happened) and they've booked me in for a scan tomorrow to check everything is ok with baby. They said they do this when preggo ladies have been in twice for reduced movement. Is this the same across all trusts?

I was lucky enough to have a sneak peek of baby on the screen a few weeks ago because I thought I'd lost some amniotic fluid (luckily all ok). Obviously I'm happy to go and see baby tomorrow but a little anxious about going into hospitals at the moment with COVID etc and it seems to be a fortnightly thing for me now. I've just read that some of you are also anxious about COVID, it seems to be getting worse doesn't it. I just want to hug my mum!!! x

Another one here worried about Covid and we're not even in a tier 2 area, though a lot around us are! I just want to get to the point where she's born in the hospital and my husband can be there throughout (currently OK) then I'll be an awful lot happier. Our family are all hours away in local lockdown areas and a lot of my friends either work as teachers or in healthcare settings so we won't be having visitors afterwards! We're currently living as hermits anyway so no change really.
Had my 36 week midwife appointment today and baby is 4/5s engaged so fingers crossed no turning now!

Kj1010 · 22/10/2020 18:27

It is all very confusing I feel like u get some that are trying there best to keep it as normal as possible and some that dont give two hoots lol I am concerned about covid but not stressing over it as have enough to contend with I'm really hoping at next scan he isnt breech still or I will be doing all the exercises possible to turn him lol we wont be really havi g any visits once he is here which I'm quite grateful for as oh side to much lol I've been lucky so far no hospital trips for reduced movement he defo has his pattern like early morning to afternoon then doesn't really move that I feel till early evening once ate I do no he moves while I'm asleep as the last few weeks with waking up I have felt so defo no he moves wen I'm asleep so I'm hoping it stays this way till birth

jalu47 · 22/10/2020 18:39

@december2020 fingers crossed your fasting test comes back negative. To be honest mine did but with the size of baby still meant I'm doing at home monitoring. It's a little kit where you prick your finger and put the drop of blood into a reader that syncs with an app on your phone. The first one was a little nervy but it's the tiniest prick and doesn't hurt. So far I've had a few readings over and a few ok so have contacted the team and waiting to hear back..

Asianchick6693 · 22/10/2020 19:27

@danielasummer Hey I also went in for reduced movements second time around last week. I had a scan both first time and second time. Turns out everything was okay both movement wise and scan wise. The doctor also saw me this time seeing as it was the second time around and I had to go in for daily CTGs until the scan had been booked. Felt long but glad baby was okay at the end of it.

peachypetite · 22/10/2020 19:40

I’ve not had my referral yet so will ask my midwife tomorrow. It’s stressing me out and I think I would feel better knowing when I’m seeing someone.

MsBee13 · 22/10/2020 20:07

@Asianchick6693 I had my second visit re reduced movements last week too. I had to the same doctor checking and each time everything was fine. Almost had a feeling like doctor was telling me off to keep coming in when everything is fine 😬

Sheera1 · 22/10/2020 22:44

Hi all. Ooh lots of lovely posts today.

Can I ask the ladies on reduced movements what it was like when you called? I got freaked out today although was busy with work today, but baby normally moves a lot and esp between 6 and 7 is bouncing about in there. He/she didn't today and until I give a bit of a poke and jiggle I wasn't feeling much. I came to lie down about an hour ago and after more quiet nothing and giving a good jiggle to bump he/she is now moving away quite the thing.

I just never know when to call and worry. I think I am fine tonight but as I was already in on Monday for monitoring for potential pre-eclampsia (it wasn't), I don't think I would have called in tonight if it hadn't started jumping about. I know that is wrong but they never seem interested when I call. I think I am just completely para.

I had a wee cry last night worrying about my c section and something going wrong. My son is 10 and autistic and I am the only person who can comfort him most of the time. With me he is like a normal boy but his anxiety and issues manifest when I am not about and I feel so responsible for something happening to him and how awful it will be for him if I die.

Stupid stupid thoughts I know but that was racing through my head last night when trying to sleep 🙈

Jellycat2020 · 23/10/2020 09:34

@Sheera1 oh you poor thing! I have no experience with autistic children but please try not to think the worst! You need to be having positive thoughts as you get towards the end of the pregnancy. Do you have any family or friends you can sound off too? Or maybe your gp or midwife?
As for going in for reduced movements - I've been in once this pregnancy for this and they were lovely, wasn't made to feel like an idiot at all and my community midwife just keeps saying please please please phone the hospital if you have any doubts AT ALL. I've also been in for unexplained bleeding and pain and both a community midwife (not my nice one!) and one of the midwives at the hospital did make me feel stupid on the phone, like it was pointless coming in as it sounded like a UTI. But I insisted as I wanted to put my mind at rest (I'm a natural worrier), went in and they were lovely, even the midwife that as grumpy on the phone! I work in a stressful job and I'm sure I can come across as grumpy on the phone too when I don't really mean it. But you're the only one who knows how baby is moving so have faith in your gut! ❤️

Amyyy1 · 23/10/2020 09:34

Finally back in my own bed, thank god😅

@Sheera1 I got sent by my midwife during an appointment but while I was there I could hear the midwives and receptionists chatting on the phone to people calling up and each time they were repeating if you are concerned we would much rather check baby is doing well every day and it be a "wasted visit" than take any risks! They were all super nice and reassuring to each person. A midwife said to me that if after 2 hours of not feeling usual movements and you've tried prodding and fizzy drinks and laying on your side etc that's when you need to call and come in - I hadn't and had left it since the evening before as I just assumed she was having a lazy night😬

NaomiB79 · 23/10/2020 10:55

@Amyyy1 glad you are back home, hope everything is okay with you and the baby after their checks and scans yesterday? X

Babyhope98 · 23/10/2020 11:10

Glad you and the baby are doing well and have been let home @Amyyy1 😊

Asianchick6693 · 23/10/2020 12:01

Aw girls just giving everyone virtual hugs. I think it's natural for all the fears to start kicking in now. I too had a cry last night, just randomly feel a sense of panic about baby's arrival and whether or not I'll be ready or manage to cope but OH has been great at reassuring me.

I wanted to ask if anyone has experienced low iron this pregnancy? I'm not taking tablets they make me sick and badly constipated. I took an oral spray but it still didn't work. I also tried with my diet but still to no avail. I finally heard all the good things about spatone and it's my second day having it but it makes me feel soooo sick so I don't know what to do!

Also girls spoke to my boss, looks like I'm officially off now with my PGP. I've been off since 29 weeks but she finally said to me that my maternity leave will start at 36 weeks. She was really nice and understanding. I also have 11 days annual leave left from this year so it'll be nice to use that when I'm transitioning back. It all worked out with work in the end so I feel really happy.

Asianchick6693 · 23/10/2020 12:12

@Sheera1 from my experience the two times I have rung in, there's no judgement or funny comments from the midwives. I explain to them exactly how the movements have been and they most definitely want to see you. If triage is busy, they say come in an hour or so later, so it saved me waiting although last time it was quite a long wait. I was nearly waiting in the car for 2 hours because they were busy. Once there, they quickly check baby's heartbeat with a doppler if wait is long. Once you've got a bed, they test your urine, BP, temp etc and then put you up to a CTG monitor which measures baby's heartbeat and you press a button every time you feel baby's movements. Apparently the machines have a checklist and if you tick them all in the hour of monitoring then you're good to go if it's your first time. Second time for me they got a consultant to see me and reassure me. Both times I also had growth scan just for reassurance. They said both times they'd rather we go in and everything be fine than wait at home where something could be wrong. So you'll be fine. Sorry for rambling on x

december2020 · 23/10/2020 16:12

@jalu47 I'm so sorry, hopefully it's not been too stressful with it all! And thank you so much for the reassurance as well! I'll just see how it goes and take it from there, it's all I can do really. I can definitely feel all the belly stretching now!

Aww, I hope everyone is feeling a little better today and less teary. It definitely sounds natural as D day gets closer!

I currently feel like a turtle stuck on my back every time I try to get into a new position in bed. It's a little embarrassing Blush but work has had me so stressed and busy, the third trimester is whizzing past and I'm not quite sure where it's gone! 5 weeks of work left and I know the next 2-3 will be crazy busy still. Today was my first low sugar 'attack' (not serious and non diabetic - just the sweating and dizzy/faint feeling and going a bit pale) as I've just not had time to eat. I haven't one of those for 10 years!

jalu47 · 23/10/2020 16:25

@december2020 that turtle analogy made me laugh :) I feel like that too!

I've had more high glucose readings today, 6 in total over 3 days but can't seem to get through to anyone. I've text the lead diabetes nurse, left a message on the voicemail and sent an email. I even rang the normal midwife line but just no hope of speaking to anyone. I'm conscious its the weekend now so won't get any advice until at least Monday - which will be 5 days after my high readings started. Not sure what the point of monitoring is if you can't get any advice when they are high!

@Sheera1 sorry to hear you're so teary - I do hope you feel a bit better and you've managed to push away those scary thoughts. It's so easy to say it'll be fine but I totally get the worry!

We're nearly there ladies!

Sheera1 · 23/10/2020 22:08

Lol on the turtle. Exactly what it is like.

Thank you all for the mommvement comments. Baby been nice and active today 😊.

Ta on the nice words too. It is silly to think like that but my mind is tired but then won't switch off rambling at night. We are so responsible as parents aren't we. My wee dude is just so vunerable without me but then so is any child without their mother.

Just the hormones and last few weeks worries as you all say.

Yes that is silly @jalu47 that there isn't a line to call 24 7. Hope you are ok. X

kkr168 · 23/10/2020 22:40

Has anyone else still not decided on a name?
I've only got 5 weeks to go & we just cannot agree, I can see this baby remaining nameless for quite a while.

Sheera1 · 23/10/2020 22:59

Girls name yes. Boys name is proving harder. Think we have decided on one mainly as we don't agree on any others, but it is not set in stone. May still change.

Don't know why I find boys names so hard.

I love Harrison and would have called DS that, but it was vetoed and has been for this one. We don't know the gender.

jalu47 · 23/10/2020 23:41

Thanks @Sheera1 - the nurse called at 7pm and looks like I'll be starting metformin and have to go into the diabetic clinic on Tuesday!

On another note, I'm so pissed off that we just spent 2.5 hrs putting the cot together and the last few bits are warped and it just doesn't fit together.. it's going to have to go back. It's a snuzkot so wasn't a cheap choice and will be such a faff - no doubt we'll have to take this one back down repackage and then have to start again 🤬

kkr168 · 24/10/2020 10:10

@Sheera1 I was exactly the same, had plenty of girls names that I loved but we're having a boy.
I have a few names I like but nothings jumping out at me!

Jwl45 · 24/10/2020 10:51

I think we have chosen ....well I have liked for ages and I think I've said it enough for my 2 daughters and hubby to like 🤣🤣 We did play a game last week... We all had to choose a name for all letters of the alphabet that we liked or part liked in end. Lol.
It was fun .... And by end we came down to 3 that we are all quite fond of. Mine still goes 🤣🤣🤣 but was nice to get my girls involved

MsBee13 · 24/10/2020 12:13

@kkr168 We have chosen a name for our baby boy early so we can call him that name and get used to it. My OH wanted for the boy to carry his name (Alexander) but there is too many of them in his family so I had to put my foot down. Now we both love the name we chose :-)

Btw, I thought we are having a girl so had plenty of names for girl and none for boy. I can say we were lucky this was the only name we like, the one we picked.

The other boy names I think are pretty nice are Jacob, Daniel, Philip, Oliver, Charlie, Joshua, Sam.

loobeelou · 24/10/2020 12:41

We haven't picked a name yet but we have 9 weeks to go! DH keeps vetoing names and when I ask what names he likes he says he doesn't know 🤪
Where we live we only have 2 days to register the baby so he'll have to make his mind up soon, or I will 😉

Kj1010 · 24/10/2020 13:10

Afternoon all we havent got an exact name for our baby boy either well oh and kids have I'm just not 100% but dont have any other names that I really like and think yep that's his name we will have time once his born to decide but I have a feeling we will end up with the name my oh likes
