@NaomiB79 Raspberry leaf tea is safe to drink from 32 weeks and is to strengthen the muscles of uterus which helps later during the labour and recovery. Doesn't mean you will have earlier labour. This is at least what I researched and from the experience of others.

kkr168 · 20/10/2020 10:49

I had a great sleep last night, it was very much needed. Seems to be a pattern for me to have 3/4/5 days of rubbish sleep, then 1 day where I actually sleep relatively well apart from the toilet trips.

alphabetti · 20/10/2020 10:53

I am 33weeks and have to get up 4 times a night for the toilet so just feel tired all the time.

I’m under a consultant as was classed as late booker and have diabetes too so not seen any community midwife just have urine and blood pressure checked after each growth scan and before seeing consultant. I have a list of questions re birth mainly Covid related questions but I have been noting them down and there’s loads but will have to ask at my next appointment next week as feel like going into the unknown even tho it’s my 3rd - age gap between oldest 2 and this baby and Covid issues. I need my questions answering tho as feel I need to plan and prepare - things like what if older child has to isolate will I need to notify hospital in advance, how long can partner stay with me etc.

peachypetite · 20/10/2020 10:57

I’m also so sick of being pregnant!

MsBee13 · 20/10/2020 11:24

@peachypetite not long to go - hang in there xx

peachypetite · 20/10/2020 11:32

Tu are doing 25% off everything. Such cute Christmas outfits!!!

Snowwhite2020 · 20/10/2020 11:49

Thanks @peachypetite will head over to the TU website. Some nice things on there.

For sure ladies, the last bit is getting a tad tiresome. We can do it though and it really won’t be long... at least if we’re tired later we will be able to have baby cuddles xx

Kj1010 · 20/10/2020 13:03

Afternoon all well I think I'm starting to get those Braxton hicks lol so currently laying on sofa work was good they have brought my cover in early to shadow me so I'm not doing the heavy or back ache inducing things and my manager as said to me to have half term off and relax for the week and let the lady do it which is lovely as then I'll only have 10 days at work left so making it that much closer cant wait as then I can concentrate on sorting home baby bits hospital bags etc

Snowwhite2020 · 20/10/2020 13:36

@Kj1010 sounds good!

I had my 32 week scan yesterday and baby is suddenly very big (95%) - he was only around 60% at 28 weeks. I saw the consultant today and he has advised induction at 37 weeks due to my crohn's disease and the size. Still borderline GD too and have to do at home glucose monitoring for two weeks. The Prof offered me an elective c-section too.

I have another scan at 36 weeks so nothing set in stone yet but my mind is fried on how to try and make this decision. C-section is something i wanted to avoid cause of the after effects / recovery and the longer stay in hospital is not ideal with covid and everything, but he was worrying me with talk of shoulder dystocia. No right answer I guess and just don't want to regret my decision.

For ladies electing for c-sections, how did you make your mind up?! I know for some it was simply inevitable because of breech etc - I almost wish the decision was out of my hands but think this one is up to me!

NaomiB79 · 20/10/2020 17:11

@jalu47 I'm really interested in your post as my baby was measuring really big at 36 weeks (100th centile for head and waist and already 8.5lb) but my consultant and midwife don't seem concerned about her size and keep saying I'll need to try and deliver her naturally. I have read things about difficulties with big babies with big heads being delivered like the head can get stuck and problems with the shoulders that you mention which does worry me.

It sounds like they have suggested a section for you because of some other risk factors like your Crohns and potential GD as well as the size of the baby. Maybe have another chat with them about all the options once you have had time to reflect which could help you reach a decision. X

Snowwhite2020 · 20/10/2020 17:39

@jalu47 I am also interested in your post. My baby’s stats are very similar to those of @NaomiB79. The consultant and midwife were also pretty insistent on natural birth and also insisted they would not induce me before 39 weeks at the earliest. I mentioned and we discussed shoulder dystocia and they tried to brush this off as possible with any size baby (which it is) but if you look into it at all (peer reviewed medical journals) bigger babies are significantly more at risk so perhaps he was right to point this out to you. I am rather annoyed at the variance in medical opinion/ care. It’s interesting all 3 of us have had slightly different advice! As Naomi says though it could be because of your additional health considerations that you have been offered the elective and earlier induction. Either way, you should listen to what you want and do what you want (whether that be elective or natural birth) and at least all of us have had the heads up that these babies are looking big...Is this your first baby too? Sometimes I think that makes a difference to advice that is given too. My consultant and midwife both used the phrase (independently of each other) that I could “give it a go and see” (regarding natural birth) but I would be monitored more and there would be a lower threshold for intervention (c section) if things weren’t progressing due to the baby’s head size. Love to you- it is a lot to take in- just remember you can make the decision either way about the birth and you have time to decide what’s going to be best for you and your baby. I was told I would not be able to give birth in a midwife led unit, however, due to the need for extra monitoring by a consultant, so that’s the only thing that is off the table I suppose. Not sure if you were also told this Naomi? xx

jalu47 · 20/10/2020 17:44

thanks @NaomiB79. yeah I think my condition is adding to it, I was always going to be induced at 39 weeks, it's just the size and potential GD are bringing it forward.

The consultant is worried about me having 'trauma' in the area as due to my Crohn's I apparently won't heal as well from tearing etc. Having said that, my Crohn's has been in remission for 2 years and is very well controlled with currently no inflammation so I don't really see it as much of a contributing factor! We'll see what they say at 36 weeks but baby is apparently 5lbs already at 32 weeks (gulp!).

I have some time to think about it but really want to be more confident which way to go by the time 36 weeks comes around if baby is still very big, I have the scan and then immediately see the consultant, so a decision will need to be made then and there, if I am going to be induced the following week.

Fingers crossed your little one doesn't continue to grow at the same rate!

jalu47 · 20/10/2020 17:52

@Snowwhite2020 that's so interesting to hear your experience. I did ask if i could try for natural and then go to c-section if needed and he said i could but it's not ideal as more risk of infection, haemorrhaging that way. He said if i want to opt for natural we should go more towards 37 weeks but if c-section could be more like 38!

Consultant also said data from a randomised trial of induction at either 37 and 38 weeks for big babies showed a 20% reduction of shoulder dystocia at 37 weeks.

NaomiB79 · 20/10/2020 18:54

@Snowwhite2020 yeah I've been told I'll need to be in the consultant led unit for birth so things like a water birth etc are not an option for me as they are in the midwife led unit at my hospital.

@jalu47 seems your consultant is pretty well versed and clued up on risks of birthing bigger babies and is taking everything into account in making a recommendation for you which is really good. I just wish mine was a bit more open to discussing the risks with me, she is quite dismissive saying I'll just need to try to give birth naturally and if I need help they will intervene at that point! I'm sure loads of people have given birth to big babies naturally and been totally fine though so hoping that is the case x

Snowwhite2020 · 20/10/2020 19:27

@jalu47 just for fun... do you know if you’re having a boy or a girl? Xx

jalu47 · 20/10/2020 19:31

@NaomiB79 yeah I feel lucky to be in the hands of the top guy. He's a professor and involved in a lot of research and academia too.

@Snowwhite2020 it's a boy!

Snowwhite2020 · 20/10/2020 20:08

@jalu47 how exciting! A boy! Congratulations. I don’t know what I’m having but will be happy either way! Xx

Sheera1 · 20/10/2020 21:34

Is anyone feeling restless and spaced out especially in the evenings?

Not sure if it is because I only have a few weeks to go now but find I have no concentration to watch a tv show or really do anything and find myself looking at crap on Facebook which is always boring.

I think if covid wasn't here I would be using this time to see friends and have nice lunches etc but sort of stuck inside.

I also can't be bothered talking on the phone though and think people feel the same in the evenings.

MsBee13 · 20/10/2020 22:41

@Sheera1 I feel exactly the same. It's like watching a paint to dry. So bored and tired and just counting the days 🤣

Sheera1 · 20/10/2020 23:05

Tee hee. Totally right. I need a good box set I think. Something that might keep me interested!

MsBee13 · 21/10/2020 00:07

@Sheera1 Me and my OH started watching Suits. Lots of seasons. Let's see!

peachypetite · 21/10/2020 04:33

Hi all. Feeling a bit anxious. I had a scan to check on my placenta position, which has moved away from my cervix, but the sonographer measured baby and plotted it on my chart that the midwives complete with their tape measures and has diagnosed high fetal velocity. Gestational diabetes has been ruled out so now I have been referred to a consultant. After a low risk pregnancy so far with all my tests etc normal and not even a UTI, just the usual pregnancy aches and pains, I’m now worried.

NaomiB79 · 21/10/2020 05:39

@peachypetite what does high fetal velocity mean for your baby? Did they explain what some of the risks could be and how they will monitor you to make sure baby gets here safely? I totally understand that getting complications near the end of pregnancy is worrying and increases anxiety, especially when everything has been fine up until now x

peachypetite · 21/10/2020 06:13

@NaomiB79 thanks for replying. Well to be honest the sonographer seemed to think I’d have diabetes but the test has come back normal. Read my midwife notes when I got home after 34 week appt and it’s measuring over 95th percentile when my previous bump measurements have been on track. I guess this is different because it’s been scanned rather than another tape measurement. I guess they will re scan me? Nobody has mentioned risk etc yet but I guess that’s because nobody knows why I am suddenly measuring bigger. But just starting to feel very nervous about a vaginal birth and big baby.
