Hi everyone - hope you don't mind me joining in! SmileI live in Manchester and am finding the restrictions hard to cope with as I rely on my mum so much for support - especially with my anxiety and depression she's been such a massive help through this. Feeling guilty that I have asked to go off on mat leave at 36 weeks rather than 38 weeks as have been struggling with fatigue, sickness, aches/pains and concentration for the past 2/3 weeks. Work are understanding but I can't help but feel terrible for moving the dates at this stage - think my anxiety is at fault for this! Confused Hoping to get some clarity on Monday at my growth scan around when my fiancé can be with me during labour. I keep having nightmares that I am going to have her and have had to go through the process on my own - with only 9 weeks to go I am starting to feel emotional and scared! SadHow are you all coping with nerves around labour and also these confusing new restrictions when we need our support systems now more than ever?

Kj1010 · 15/10/2020 13:04

@december2020 dagenham unfortunately

Kj1010 · 15/10/2020 13:07

@whitter I'm just going with the flow in regards to labour etc as there is nothing we can do about it and I dont want to stress myself out with it tbh I suffer anxiety to but am able to to control it I wished I took my maternity earlier than I have as I am struggling now i work as a cleaner in a school so aches pains tiredness etc hits me everyday plus either the broken sleep aswell it's a nightmare lol but am pushing through

Asianchick6693 · 15/10/2020 14:08

Hi girls. Went for my first day of monitoring. Now they've found glucose in my urine meaning I could potentially have gestational diabetes. Sent me home to measure my blood sugar levels 4x a day for 2 weeks and I've got a UTI. The joys!! I've been absolutely shattered, shaky and feeling so weak the past few days. Going in again on Saturday now and hopefully have the scan sorted turns out they forgot to refer me to one.

Pinktruffle · 15/10/2020 15:15

I apologise for any grossness or TMI in my post, I think this may be one for the non FTM's.

I've just been to the toilet and when I wiped there was a huge amount of discharge/mucus. It was snotty coloured and there was so much that it had splattered on the toilet seat (sorry) there was no blood in it though. Is this my mucus plug or have I just had an unusual amount of discharge?

I've been having period like pains for days now, sometimes for quite a long time but nothing particularly notable today.

NaomiB79 · 15/10/2020 15:17

@Whitter I know what you mean about feeling guilty about changing your dates with work but ultimately you have to just do what's best for you and the baby. I was due to finish next Friday but am really struggling now and starting to show signs of preeclampsia so have to go to hospital once a week now for monitoring so I'm going to finish up earlier than planned as I just don't think I'll make it through another week and a bit. My work have been supportive and said I just need to do what's best for me but do feel guilty as it's really busy just now.

With regards to the restrictions and your Mum being able to support I think that even in the toughest restrictions there are compensations for child care support or people in bubbles so hopefully you can continue to see your Mum under one of those routes x

Jellycat2020 · 15/10/2020 16:20

@Pinktruffle I am a FTM so happy to defer to those more experienced, but I had a similar thing happen a month or so ago. I phoned the midwife who said it was unlikely to have been the plug but even if it was, in the absence of any other symptoms of early labour, there's nothing they would do. With me, it turned out to be likely due to thrush so if worried, speak to the midwife or GP.

Bluebell2020 · 15/10/2020 16:23

@Whitter I'm from greater manchester ish.. I work in Manchester Children's Hospital. If I'm being completely honest I've not been following the rules very well. We've been careful but I've also just had my mum round for a cup of tea. I don't see how they are fair when everyone has still got to work and be with multiple households in work hours but can't see family.

I've also had to take my Mat leave early. Wasn't suppose to start until 39 weeks with 3 week annual leave to use before but I've had to finish unexpectedly at 33 weeks instead due to the outcome of my last growth scan.

"Pregnant Then Screwed" have put up a spreadsheet of all the current hospital visit rules and restrictions for pregnant women which might be worth having a look at for your local hospital.

Stay strong! xx

Pinktruffle · 15/10/2020 16:55

Thanks @Jellycat2020, my gut feeling is that it was just discharge. I should probably call the midwife to chrck but they never answer the phone! I haven't had any other symptoms and baby is still kicking so I think I'm going to hold fire for now.

Kj1010 · 15/10/2020 17:00

@Pinktruffle hiya hun I've only had my plug go once which only had a slight pinkish in it but didn't have pains but did turn out was in labour not to scare you but I would contact maternity triage as u said u have had pains for a while and get advice and maybe go in to be checked out for safety and reassurance xx

Snowwhite2020 · 15/10/2020 18:03

@Pinktruffle I’d phone the midwife. It could be the mucous plug. My understanding is that it can go several weeks before you go into labour but that alongside the period pains- I don’t know why you wouldn’t check in just to be sure there’s nothing they want to check.

I also had a lot of discharge at one point and they had me in to check it because they wanted to check it wasn’t waters (sounds like what I had was different to what you had) but yeah, it was discharge.

If it was mucous plug you could be meeting baby soon. How many weeks are you now? Xx

Pinktruffle · 15/10/2020 18:23

I'm 34 weeks. I've just spent the past 20 minutes trying to call maternity triage and they said that in the anbsence of any contractions they don't think its anything to worry about. The midwife said given my description of it, it sounds more like discharge than mucus plug. Baby is still kicking away so seems happy.

I think this is a little kick up the backside to pack my hospital bag though. I have most of the stuff and its lying in the nursery but I think I need to sort it out tonight just in case!

Snowwhite2020 · 15/10/2020 18:37

@Pinktruffle that’s good- hope that’s reassured you xx

Kj1010 · 15/10/2020 18:48

@Pinktruffle good u got advice hun just to put ur mind at ease xx

Pinktruffle · 15/10/2020 18:57

Thank you for the advice ladies :) x

Pinktruffle · 15/10/2020 19:18

This may sound like a really stupid question but how many nappies should I pack for the hospital?

Kj1010 · 15/10/2020 20:13

@Pinktruffle I'm just gonna take a whole pack has 22 in

NaomiB79 · 15/10/2020 20:22

@Pinktruffle I packed a 25 pack as figured you can go through 7-8 a day so that would cover a few days. Don't think they go that much at the start but that size pack fitted in my hospital bag quite nice. Figured DP can bring in more if we get kept in.

Babyhope98 · 15/10/2020 20:48

I’ve put 10 in, don’t know if I’ll need more. I think if I have to stay in longer I’ll just get partner to bring some more x @Pinktruffle

I just need to wash her clothes now, want to tumble dry them as they will take forever to dry now it’s winter. I hope they don’t shrink 😆 X

Pinktruffle · 16/10/2020 00:31

I packed most of my hospital bag tonight, just my nightie in the wash that needs to be added and couple of other little things. I've got a little suitcase which is already full. I've my tena lady and maternity pads in a seperate bag as the wouldn't fit so will add some more nappies in as I've made up little baby packs with all the little ones clothes and each one has a nappy in but that's only 5 nappies.

danielasummer · 16/10/2020 05:56

@Pinktruffle I'm going to bring a pack of 22 to the hospital but plan on cloth nappying as soon as I'm home.

Crikey I'm feeling very disorganised, I keep saying I'm going to pack my hospital bag but then I feel so overwhelmed and worried I'll miss something that I just don't end up doing it! I've been trying for about 3 weeks haha!

Hope everyone is ok and had a good night's sleep. I haven't for the past few nights unfortunately and have been downstairs by 5am both mornings as I get so frustrated in bed. x

I know what you mean about hospital bags. I am going to do mine this weekend too! Also I just want to make sure I have a clean pair of leggings, joggers and a few tops in there ready to go for me so I don’t have to worry when the time comes.

december2020 · 16/10/2020 07:56

I was planning to do my hospital bag in 2-3 weeks time (would be around 34 weeks).
What is everyone using as their bag? I don't want them to think I'm moving in, but equally want to make sure I have enough space for the essentials I need.
Also with all the visiting restrictions at the moment with the pandemic I'm seriously starting to consider a home birth. It just feels less stressy somehow.

peachypetite · 16/10/2020 08:05

Ao thinking I’ll take enough for me and baby for a couple of days and then have another bag at home that my husband can bring in if needed. The zip lock bag idea has been mentioned a few times for baby things which I’ll definitely be doing, packing by separate outfit.
Is anyone else doing the breastfeeding (free) classes by la Leche league? I signed up months ago to register my interest and they’ve been in touch about November classes.

Kj1010 · 16/10/2020 08:14

I havent even got all bits in yet still need all the creams washes etc for both me n bubba I'm 32 weeks and didn't plan on doing my bag till I break up for maternity in novemeber so like when I'm 36 weeks have so much stuff going on other than this pregnancy my mind drifts lol
