@Hagster it must be awful to receive that news and I had to look it up as I'd never heard of it before.
Are you being medicated for it? And I presume you are under consultant care anyway?
We have to remember that midwives only are trained in normal pregnancies on the whole...my own midwife told me this, so I would aim for consultant and GP support on this. Having said this, my own consultant is for my thyroid and when I asked her questions about the thyroid she literally said "I don't really know anything about the thyroid so you'd need to ask your GP about this".
So my point is not to scare you but the realities are that not everyone is an expert in everything. I've had to become my own expert and push for certain things. I've changed consultant now and things are a lot better.
I noticed on the liver association webpage there is a live chat option which might be worth investigating too.

The page I read was very positive about outcomes with 'active management'...not sure what that is though?

Haven't caught up properly not had a chance, just marking my place so I don't lose it! Thanks for the thread @Treaclepie19

Loving seeing all these new babas arriving, congrats ladies!!

didslysquiddlydoo · 19/09/2020 09:42

Thanks for the new thread! And I've started following the new mums thread too, just to keep up with how people are getting on for now!
39 weeks today... feel like there will be a few more babies here before it's my turn as she seems far too comfy in there but it's all getting very real / exciting / scary!!!

@Hagster my friend was diagnosed with severe ICP last year, at around 32 weeks. They decided to induce her at 37 weeks but that was largely because it was severe and getting worse - up until then, they just did extra monitoring etc and she and baby was absolutely fine (just extra itchy!!!). Definitely talk to professionals about pros and cons and weigh up your options but I honestly think If they believe it's ok to manage conservatively, that's best for baby!! Ask what extra monitoring you'll get etc as it's important to acknowledge how it might increase your anxiety!! Xxx

Hagster · 19/09/2020 18:14

Thanks so much all, you're very lovely and I really really appreciate your support. Really helpful to hear other stories of people who've had babies with ICP, adds a bit more balance to it all, thank you. Feeling a bit calmer today, have been trying to maintain perspective and remind myself it's mild and usually that means things are good, but if things get worse I'm definitely going to ring triage. Will be monitored weekly now anyway, so that's good. The symptoms got a bit better last night so that's also helped me to feel a bit more ok about them saying they'll just monitor for now. Hopefully I'll just have a slightly nervier last few weeks than I'd originally thought!

Thanks for setting up the new threads @MOGMOGMOG85 and @Treaclepie19.

Welcome @Babyghirl. I'm so sorry for your previous losses, tentative congratulations on your pregnancy. Hopefully you'll find this group as supportive as I have, we're here for you through the rollercoaster of it all.

@Littlegoth HUGE congratulations, so happy for you, what an absolute cutie! ♥️

Thank you so much I find talking to other girls that have been through the same thing as me really helps. Hoping 3rd time lucky for me and its my rainbow baby 🍀💚

Anon20something · 19/09/2020 18:45

Finn is out of SCBU and spent last night with me on the transitional care ward! Honestly it was just amazing having him with me for cuddles, we had skin to skin most of the night and he has been trying really hard to latch on! He’s demand feeding at the minute, and they were so pleased they took his feeding tube out this morning! He’s also had a few bottle top ups and a dummy - not a clue what I’m doing but I’m just making it up as I go and he seems chilled! @avocuddles we’re the same and he’s now under the light working on his tan - his is a little mat underneath him so I have still been getting him out to feed and have a cuddle and he was out for the hour his dad was here. An hour just isn’t enough is it? We’re hoping his levels keep going down, they’re checking at midnight and hopefully, hopefully they keep going down so we can get him home tomorrow or Monday morning! Just want to get him home now! But he’s been an absolute gem - he doesn’t cry, he just stares at me and sticks his tongue out to tell me he’s hungry 😂 oh and he peed on his own face hahah

Posted my congratulations to the new mums on the last thread, very jealous and now excited to be joining you hopefully before too long! @didslysquiddlydoo the race is on!!

Welcome @Babyghirl I spent the first 12 weeks getting a private scan every 10 days and trying to ignore that I was pregnant / distract myself. This was before Covid (just) so that was a bit easier! The support I received on here was amazing, it's such a lovely group 💕

@TunnocksTcake
Thank you I'm just a bag off nerves lol only symptoms I have is sore breasts and tiredness I'm only 4.5 weeks so hoping they start hitting soon I keep feeling wet down below but when I check it's just cm my doc has reffered me to the epu so hoping to hear from them soon. Congratulations on your pregnancy.

SammiLou2312 · 20/09/2020 09:35

@Babyghirl firstly welcome to the group, tentative congratulations and sending sticky bean vibes your way! I hope you can find support and comfort from this group like I did. Those early days can be really tough but as you say this is a different pregnancy and there is no reason not to expect a different outcome. Try not to stress too much about symptoms or lack of them. As many of us can confirm from personal experiences, symptoms can vary and can come and go with no warning or reason. As @MOGMOGMOG85 suggested, distraction can help in the early days and this group is always here should you want advice or just somewhere you can rant and let your anxieties out (we have all been there and sometimes just writng down hope you are feeling and hearing that others have felt the same and got through it can really help). The group is here for the tough times, the good times and the downright crazy times where you just need talking down from the ledge (I certainly had a few of those moments) just know you are not alone and today... You are pregnant 🥰

Babyghirl · 20/09/2020 09:45

@sammilou2312
Thank you them words helped I can't stop the outcome but I can just try and enjoy it I think it's just I'm 37 so an older mum to be that has me worrying lol. And can just pray this is my rainbow baby on its way to me. 💚💚💚

AnxiousLady1 · 20/09/2020 10:31

@babyghirl Welcome and gentle congratulations on your pregnancy. Many of us on this group are in similar age bracket so perhaps take some reassurance from that. I echo what others have said. Do want you can to distract yourself in first trimester. Try not to read into symptoms fluctuating too much. I certainly had no "real" symptoms until about 7 or 8 weeks and even then they fluctuated day to day and it drove me crazy. Setting milestones can be helpful also. For many of us with earlier losses, the first one was getting passed the point of those losses. It can be mentally challenging so do come on here and vent as and when needed. xx

Babyghirl · 20/09/2020 10:55

@anxiouslady
Thank you for your kind words I think it's just all the goodness off pregnancy for us has been taking away. I'm taking each day as it comes my second loss was at 6 5 weeks so if I get past that great and my second loss was at 10.4 so even better when I reach that my doc has reffered me to the epu so hoping to get an app date with them on Monday for bot 3 weeks time also been put on aspirin this time to feels like I'm doing something to try and prevent it happening again. 🍀💚

Babyghirl · 20/09/2020 10:56

@AnxiousLady1
My first loss was 10.4 weeks x

SunStruck · 20/09/2020 11:08

@Babyghirl congratulations and welcome to the group! I am also an older mum to be (turning 37 next month), and I had 2 miscarriages (1mmc) before this pregnancy. 39 weeks tomorrow! Hang in there, the early days are tough but you just need to focus on one milestone at a time (first scan, 12 week scan, 20 weeks etc). It gets easier 😄

@TunnocksTCake almost due date twins! Are you feeling anything yet? I can hand on heart say that I feel absolutely nothing (I feel normal), no pains, no BH, no contractions, no nothing... 🤔 I definitely think I'm in this for the long haul! I'm guessing I'm gonna go over for sure. Which is fine by me as I'm scheduled to work until the end of the month and I'm busy...

Updating myself...

Hello Everyone,

Sorry it’s taken so long to get back on, Mummy life is busy but the best ❤️ Hope you’re all doing ok and thanks for all the congratulations messages.

For people that were asking about c-sections, I honestly couldn’t fault it. The first 24-36 hours were really hard-going but, after that, my recovery has been brilliant! No trapped wind, very little bleeding, don’t feel sore. I feel very lucky! One tip I would share is to buy Always Boutique discreet disposable pants or similar, they really supported my wound and made a big difference to my recovery and ability to move around.

In terms of actually in theatre, they were able to do delayed cord-clamping, not as long as they would through natural delivery but they did do it for a minute or so. Baby was then taken to the side for a quick clean and for my husband to cut the cord then she was placed on my chest for skin-to-skin whilst they put me back together. She got taken away again to the side for weight and checks with my husband with her then back on my chest. On the way out of theatre, they laid me on my side on the bed with her snuggled in and she was feeding before we even left the theatre, it was amazing! Star

Knotemma · 20/09/2020 11:59

@Babyghirl gentle congratulations and welcome to the group. It's definitely a hard time and I agree that distraction worked for me. I had three first trimester losses before getting to meet Samuel on Thursday so have an idea of what you're going through. I watched a lot of shite TV and did a lot of crafting, I'm a knitter and a crocheter, so did quite a lot of that. I also found milestones and mantras really useful, as well a "relaxation" soundtracks with nice breathing and visualisation things 🤷‍♀️ best of luck and I really hope this is your time x

Babyghirl · 20/09/2020 12:07

@knotemma
Thank you and congratulations on the birth off your son I'm sure he's perfect, I'm just taking each day as it comes but they r going really slow 😂😂😂😂😂😂 wishing they would fly by lol I'm going to be wishing the nxt 8 weeks away at this rate lol. But all I can do is relax and take it day by day 💚🍀
