Just had my first midwife appointment - she was lovely and had a student with her. They did my urine, went through all the questions and said I would have to have the gestational diabetes test because of my pcos which is fine. She also queried why I am on metformin, I explained it was to regulate my cycles and control symptoms, and I’ve been told it’s ok to keep taking it. She said that she’s never heard of it being used for pcos or in pregnancy (I hear this SO often, quite frustrating low limited the knowledge is on pcos. I know they aren’t specialists but it’s so common that I find it a shame they don’t know more).

I said I have read quite a few medical studies that say metformin dramatically decreases the risk of miscarriage for women with pcos...I said I’m not a medical professional but I’d like to stay on it if I can as I’m worried about my risks as it is with pcos.

She seemed fine with that and I’m not sure if she’s going to check on it or not!

So now I’m just waiting for my 12 week scan, gestational diabetes check and blood results.

Hope I hear back soon, can’t wait to get my scan booked in! Xxx

Mrsp2be22 · 01/10/2020 13:14

@Cafeaulait27 That all sounds great! How do you feel now you've seen a midwife?

Did they take your blood then and there to do the tests on the baby?

Cafeaulait27 · 01/10/2020 13:51

@Mrsp2be22 it makes it feel really real!! And I also feel a bit weird as I’m not showing or anything yet (but feel really bloated) that sometimes I don’t feel pregnant at all! And I really worry about stuff going wrong so it almost feels weird when the midwife is talking as if everything will go smoothly!

They did the blood test then and there at our house and I went to the loo to do the urine sample. She also gave me a pot ready for the 16 week appointment.

It was really nice but I’m still so nervous about miscarriage or something being wrong with the baby ☹️ Sometimes I feel like this isn’t real and I’m not really pregnant?! It’s all just a lot!!

I did mention the brown discharge but it’s stopped over the last few days so I didn’t push for a scan. I’ll just monitor and see if it comes back xx

GrandTheftWalrus · 01/10/2020 13:53

Phoned maternity this afternoon so getting the ball rolling. I'm still scared though as last time when I got through and registered my baby had already stopped developing. Also had a dream last night that it stopped as well.

But its the same midwife as last time and she's calling me on Thursday morning. So hopefully get a date for a scan soon.

Cafeaulait27 · 01/10/2020 13:58

Also, does anyone know what results I am likely to get from the blood and urine tests? I know they Are testing for sickle cell and thessalamia, not sure what else? Xxx

Cafeaulait27 · 01/10/2020 13:59

@GrandTheftWalrus that’s great that you’ve got the ball rolling, hope it’s all ok for you this time. How many weeks are you?

Moandy · 01/10/2020 15:06

Is anyone suffering badly with sickness? I had hyperemesis with my first and think I'm having it again now. I've had small amounts of brown discharge for 10 days now, I'm too scared to take any medication as I don't want to tempt fate even more. Just feel so rubbish!

DiabeticFirstBaby · 01/10/2020 15:39

@Cafeaulait27 I also feel a bit anxious about something going wrong but i guess that's normal. Didn't even think about how i'd feel before i got pregnant. I barely have any symptoms apart from being bloated and sore boobs so just hope all's ok. Had my early diabetes scan last week at 7 weeks and all looked good so just a few more weeks to 12 week scan, then i think i'll relax a bit more.

GrandTheftWalrus · 01/10/2020 15:44

@Cafeaulait27 I'm 7+2 today. I'm worrying though as I was 7+3 when it stopped developing last time. So hoping everything will be okay this time.

My private scan is on 20th at 11.30am and I'll be 10 weeks so fingers crossed we see a wee baby.

Cafeaulait27 · 01/10/2020 17:29

@DiabeticFirstBaby great that your first scan went well, fingers crossed for you!

Cafeaulait27 · 01/10/2020 17:31

@GrandTheftWalrus hope it works out for you this time, fingers crossed. It’s so hard waiting! I can’t wait to get a date for my 12 week scan so I have something to look forward to. Xxx

Sophi123 · 01/10/2020 17:31

Does anyone else have symptoms that come and go? I am 6w5d or thereabouts and on Sunday-Tuesday started feeling really nervous, yesterday felt bit better but had a scan and saw a little heartbeat and now today I have basically no symptoms. I guess noone can know for certain and all looked good yesterday but now already panicking about nausea having disappeared!!

Cafeaulait27 · 01/10/2020 17:38

@Sophi123 mine come and go too! I think until we start showing and the baby starts moving, we are just going to worry all the time!

All through my midwife appointment I kept thinking ‘am I actually pregnant? I don’t feel pregnant at all’ it’s so weird talking about it all with midwives when nothing is showing (although I’m really bloated and feel like I’ve gained flab around my belly already!) xxx

Mrsp2be22 · 01/10/2020 17:49

Mine come and go it is the biggest worry! I am constantly googling if anyone else has the same things! How does anyone not worry during pregnancy?!

I'm 7+6 tomorrow and I swear my boobs have shrunk/dont hurt as much! Some days my nausea is the worst and days like today its manageable. Hoping that it means everything is okay!

stairway · 01/10/2020 18:46

I’m not sure if I’ve joined this thread before? I think there was another one that didn’t take off. Firstly I’m sorry to the OP for her miscarriage.
I’m feeling pretty crap really, sick, tired hungry but nothing hits the spot. I’m so anxious too, more worried about damaging the baby then having a miscarriage. I’ve done a few things that I’m worried about like having a really hot bath, then my oven caught fire and the Teflon coated baking tray started smoking. I’m worried about the gases I’ve inhaled.
I’m also trying to enjoy this time though as it will be the last baby.

Nurserycottages · 01/10/2020 19:13

@stairway I'm so glad you said about the hot bath as I had one last weekend and felt really ill when I got out - good old google said it'll be fine but just something avoid doesn't stop you worrying though!

I am feeling really sick in the evening and after brushing my teeth (which is great!!) This morning I also felt so tired which isn't great when you've got 31 children to teach 😂

stairway · 01/10/2020 19:20

Nursery cottages the thing about baths is that apparently you shouldn’t raise your body temperature too much. I did check my temperature at it was fine, but if body temperature is so important what about if a pregnant woman has a fever? I’m going to google fever now. 31 kids must be tough! I’ve got a 12 hour shift tomorrow which I ain’t looking forward too.

Herecomesbabyno7 · 01/10/2020 20:36

I found out a week ago that I'm pregnant with #7. My 1st with my partner. I thought I was starting menopause as I'm 44yrs both my mom and sister went through it at 40yrs. I did a test to rule it out and was shocked. Had split with partner but we got back together and I fell straight away. By LMP I'm classed as two weeks more than I think I really am. I always find out early so it feels like pregnancy lasts ages.

mummabubs · 01/10/2020 20:53

@Moandy 🙋🏻‍♀️ Yup. Currently 7+5. Was sick the whole way through with my first and feels similar this time around, but hopefully this time it will go away in a few weeks! I've noticed some small improvements by wearing travel sickness bands (doesn't remove the nausea but does seem to reduce it), I force myself to eat something small every couple of hours even if I really don't feel like it and have taken to having a pack of rich tea biscuits by my bedside for when I wake feeling ill in the night.

It's horrible isn't it, is this your first child? I find this time around I keep looking at my 3 year old DS and telling myself that it's all worth it to end up with him (99% of the time anyway!) 😂

Moandy · 01/10/2020 21:00

@mummabubs No this is my 2nd child. Ds is 20 months. I really thought I'd get away without being sick this time, but today has been awful. I've tried everything but nothing helps at all. Even strong anti sickness tablets didn't stop me ending up in a&e countless times last time. That's what I keep telling myself. I feel guilt for DS that I'm a bit of a mess at the moment!

CMAYF11 · 01/10/2020 21:03

Marking my spot. Had a scan on Tuesday and everything looks ok. Just the one, which was a relief for my husband 🤣🤣
I’ve had awful nausea for the last 2 weeks, and felt shattered this week. Hoping it passes soon

mummabubs · 01/10/2020 21:47

@Moandy sorry, I read your post again as soon as I'd replied and realised you'd said this is your second. 🤦🏻‍♀️ Really sorry you're suffering again this time too. I hang onto hope that a lot of my friends had very different pregnancies each time. I'm sure you're doing your best and still being a great mum. My DS is definitely getting a lot more tv than usual and he doesn't understand why I can't play rough and tumble games with him. I find the worst time is when he wakes in the night (he's 3 but still doesn't reliably sleep through) and then when I go back to bed the sickness kicks in with a vengeance but I don't want to be sick incase it wakes DS again 😬

Fingers crossed the next few weeks bring positive changes for both of us!

Amelia891 · 02/10/2020 07:46

@Herecomesbabyno7 your 7th baby!! Wow that’s amazing congrats. You must be a pro by now! How do you feel compared to your previous pregnancies?

So sorry to OP, hope you’re doing ok.

Everyone who has said about feeling anxious, I’m exactly the same. With my daughter until I could feel her kick I was so worried. When they kick it’s so reassuring because you know everyday that they are ok. I have my midwife appointment on Monday. My sickness is weirdly not as bad this time round but I’m SO tired. I keep waking up to pee twice a night then I just can’t get back to sleep.

Herecomesbabyno7 · 02/10/2020 09:24

I've got morning sickness for the first time. I had implantation pain. Never had any problems with other pregnancies and have had quick births (15hrs for all 6). I've had slightly larger than average babies with last being massive 10lb2oz, partners kids were big so I'm dreading finding that size out. Found out super early again so it's gonna feel like forever. Just hope I get same again with easy pregnancy and birth.
