Crossed with you Fettle- chin up lovely, I'm sure Toby is just fine... go throw that silly book away .

Chocolate....

fettleandbabyfettle · 17/10/2007 13:48

THanks Honey - and you've made me realise quite how self-obsessed I was in my earlier post!!!

Mrs, totally agree that LOs should sleep in your room for first few months - I think with DD we managed nearly 3 months, before she grew out of the moses basket, I think poor little Toby will be turfed out earlier as he is much bigger, but I'll really really miss him (although he's a noisy sleeper!!!). I used to take DD and toby at start into their room to feed so that DH could sleep on as he has to work during the day, but when he was away last week I fed in bed and realised quite how much better it was for both me and Toby was much easier to settle afterwards as well, so I'm still doing it!!. Asked DH if it really bothered him, he asked for a few mins to answer and then said " I think the benefits for you and Toby, outweigh the inconvenience to me!!!"

Anyway, Toby is awake!!!!! YEAH!!!!! Awful pooing noises, so better go deal with that,t hen force myself out to the supermarket!! Feel sick after all the chocolate I've just eaten - oops!! but I feel better!!

Strike that - he's asleep again in the time it took me to post the post!!! think I'll wake him to deal with the nappy - can't be nice to sit in your own poo all day!!!

Honey - how are the pains? any more pre-labour signs? It's tomorrow DP is away isn't it? Keep your legs crossed for a couple of days (although dont' really as that will hurt with your SPD!!!)/.

Hi Fettle- glad you are sounding perkier! And what a nice DH you have... absolutely what is best for mum and baby is best all round.

Just skim watched BUB... bit of a cop out at the end... whatever is good for you is the best etc etc... but still it does annoy me how many people see that 'sleeping 7 till 7' is the be all and end all of successful parenthood... and that they will go to such extremes of routine to aquire it.. bit of a holy grail thing I reckon...

Anyway, got to go and DD soon...

RE my labour- A few niggly cramps but nothing as interesting as the other day! Dont think anything will happen for the next few days... nothing like tempting fate though .

MrsMcSpooky · 17/10/2007 17:25

Fettle poor you hon- sending hugs! Can?t help with any of your questions but here to listen see you are feeling a bit brighter hope my DH is as considerate as yours!

Honeyapple ? poor Goingfor3, things are stressful just now I think hope you found some biccies! Totally agree with you, I don?t think sleeping 7-7 should be the benchmark for a successful routine or parent either!

Was at MW earlier ? all fine, nothing to report got chatty to a HV outside though and I was asking about BF support. She told me there is a group ? of 3 ? she only has 3 mothers that BF out of over 80 and was delighted that she might get a new recruit. She invited me along to meet them and ask questions ? think I?ll do that when I am on Mat Leave

honeyapple · 17/10/2007 18:37

Evening

Oh dear, poor Goingfor3, dont like to hear things being stressful for her. Hope she pops back on this thread.

Mrs- cant believe only 3 out of 80 women BF! That is SO low... I wonder if there is a UK map of BFing, do you think Scotland is low in general?

Back in a mo... DD says she has a tummy ache and has just rushed to the loo ...

KitKat30 · 17/10/2007 19:04

Just waving a quick hello girls - house move is imminent and everything is chaos! Will be offline for a few days (will I miss Honeyapple popping?!?) but will be back soon (I hope!).

Love and kisses to all (inc. bumps and babies!)

greedygreedyguzzler · 17/10/2007 19:31

hello all! feel like i havent been on her for AGES!!!!! its a busy life having 3 little ones!!!! and this is WITH dh on paternity leave! mind you......sometimes i feel like i get a lot less done when he is around!!!

marcy is a STAR!!!! i am SO in love with her!!!!!!! obviously i was with my other two as well, but because she will prob be my last she seems so precious and i am really trying to make the most of her. i just want to cuddle her ALL the time. good job i cant though or she would never learn to settle herself and i would still be rocking her to sleep when she was 12!!!

hey honeyapple - dont knock sleeping 7 till 7!!!that is a big aim of mine too then at least i will get the chance to come on MN more often again!!!!

mrs - did i read your post right that only 3 out of 80 women are BFing? WOW! it seems to me like everyone i ever meet has BF and makes me feel like a failure!!! i want to live where you do!! i tried again this time, but only lasted 48 hrs. crap i know, but unlike all you earth mothers........... i don't like it!!! in fact i think i could almost say i hate it!!! (i know how strange that will seem to most of you). i am just so awkward and clumsy when feeding and cant do it discretely and get me and baby covered in milk and i just really dont get on with it! i end up getting so stressed out with the whole thing that i dread each feed and i didnt want that again. i felt like that with ds and didnt enjoy mmy first few weeks with him at all cos of the constant feeding which i hated. ANYWAY!!! i am a happy mum now and LOVE feeding marcy ( although its harder to type on here whilst bottle feeding!!)

PHEW!!! glad i have got that off my chest!!!!! i have been almost too scared to admit to all you earth mothers that i had given in again!!!

fettle - i am sure you are not slipping into depression. it will just be the normal feelings that are to be expected after having a second child. it must be hard now that your mum has gone home too. we all have days where we just dont feel like being sociable or going out...............its normal and i am sure i will be on here next week once dh is back at work saying exactly the same thing!!!

so honeyapple - is it 38 wks this fri? actually, just realised it must be 39! wow! you really could pop any second!!!! you have to learn how to put pics up and quick!!!

i have posted another pic of marcy looking really cute!!! chooster - i love your center parcs pics. theo looks so grown up!!! not like my little newborn at all!!! they grow up quick dont they!! and your hair looks fab!!! very glam! my fringe is no work at all by the way!!! i am a wash and go girl too, even though fettle thinks i spend hours every morning blow drying and straightening my hair!!! i dont!!

MrsMcSpooky · 17/10/2007 19:36

Hey Greedy lovely to hear from you I?m so glad you are enjoying Marcy, it?s so lovely

Yup, that?s right 3/80 BF at my GPs surgery. I might hate it too, I have no idea yet! I just want to give it good shot as it?s my first time don?t you dare even suggest that you feel inadequate

greedygreedyguzzler · 17/10/2007 19:53

i think with your first baby if you are determined you will be fine. i thought i was determined until i tried it, and then only lasted 3 weeks, but like i said virtually everyone else i know has been successful, even if they struggled at first!
you are next after honey arent you mrs? WOW!!! i am so excited about all you first timers having your babes too! it will be so lovely for you all!

honeyapple · 17/10/2007 20:06

Hiya Greedy, lovely to hear from you . Ha! You made me laugh about the earth mother thing ... dont worry about the BF not working out, you tried again which is a really big thing seeing as you had such a hard time of it before. So big respect to you for that. You gave Marcy the important colostrum anyway. I guess I was lucky that I never had any real problems with BF (apart from sore nips!). Glad you are enjoying Marcy so much, I am jealous! I want my baby out now too . (Still would rather skip the actual birth bit.)

Hi Kitkat, hope the move goes smoothly.

honeyapple · 17/10/2007 20:07

Fab pictures Greedy- loving the Elvis hair!
My DD had hair like that too! I wonder whether this one will be hairy...

Bodkin · 17/10/2007 20:43

Hey great pics Greedy and Chooster! Your fringe looks fab - not that I'm that sure what you looked like without it, but anyway, it really suits you. And the Theo is sooo cute! Marcy's Elvis lip curl is hilarious! Un Huh! Greedy - don't worry about the BF - like Honey says, you gave it a crack of the whip, and it must be really hard to try something that you know is difficult for you when you've got 2 other kids to look after. A happy mum is the most important thing

Fettle - I'm always a bit worried that Isla sleeps too much in the day (she can manage just over an hour before she loses the plot completely and screams her head off demanding to be put to bed) so her total daytime naps are about 5-6 hours still! She still sleeps well at night (7-7 with one feed at 4am ish) so i guess she must need it. i've taken to putting her to sleep in the pram for day naps, so if I have to go and get DD from pre-school while she's asleep I don't have to wake her up. Thing is, she seems to prefer it to the cot now, and i'm getting an interesting pattern on the lawn from wheeling her around to get her off to sleep Maybe it's all the fresh air that is making her sleep so much?(eek, am I a closet Claire Verity fan?)

Anyway, what I am trying to say is that at this stage, I think his day sleep sounds fine, and if he's ok at night, go with it. Some babies need more sleep than others.

Mrsmc - with DD1 she was in our room for about 6 months - partly because she was our PFB and partly because we hadn't built her room yet. Isla was in her own room at about 3 weeks (it is right next door though, and only a thin partition wall so I can still hear a lot of snuffling ) because she didn't like the moses basket, and I couldn't be bothered to move the cot (have to take it apart to get it throught the door) I have to say it does mean we sleep a lot better (and so does she) Plus she doesn't get woken up when DD1 comes bouncing in of a morning.

Or last night. When DD1 woke up at 1.30am and proceded to keep getting up and down until 4am, when Isla woke to feed. and when I'd finished feeding her and got her settled again, DD1 woke up AGAIN - Gaaaaah! We went downstairs and I had a cup of tea and she had a jam tart as we were both wide awake by then. back to bed at 5am. Isla woke at 6.30am!!!! Needless to say, I felt like shite for the whole of today, and DD1 was a walking disaster area, crashing into everything and floods of tears every 2 minutes. It was somewhat of a relief to get her off to bed at 6pm tonight! Am praying for a better night tonight!

Right, i'll put another pic up as we're all at it tonight...

Not got into Facebook yet - I just don't really get what it's all about.... could someone enlighten me?

God this is turning into a mammoth and rather rambling post... and I haven't even said hello to you Honeyapple - sorry to hear the contractions haven't developed into something more exciting.

fettleandbabyfettle · 17/10/2007 21:12

The one evening I don't keep checking to see if anyone's posted and you're all really busy!!!

Thanks all for the reassurances re my down day! Feel better this evening - Toby managed to be awake for about 2 hours this evening and then had the best feed in ages and is now sparko again!! We actually had a pretty good night last night (until 5am, when it all went pear-shaped!!!). Toby did his first 4 hour stint from 10 til 2am, then woke at just before 5am. I was already awake, woken by the pain in my boob, which hadn't fed for over 7 hours by this stage (unheard of!!). Then Toby made a noise and the let down started! Then DD woke up screaming for me, DH wouldn't do, so I went to her in my now soaking nightie - holding my boob, as I could feel it squirting milk!! Pleading with DD to let me go and feed Toby! Eventually she agreed and I managed to feed Toby, but both were unsettled until about 6.15am, when they both went back to sleep until 7.15, while DH's alarm went off at 6.30am!! Think that's why we were so tired this morning, but it is funny thinking back on it!

Think I may have a bit of milk oversupply, which isn't a bad BF problem to have, but it does mean poor Toby is inundated in milk and does choke him sometimes as my letdown squirts and milk comes out of his nose!! Going to get him weighed tomorrow, so hopefully he is putting on weight well and his short 5 min feeds are simply because he gets enough in that short time!!

Greedy - great to hear from you and to hear how much you are enjoying Marcy. I also am trying to enjoy Toby more! don't worry about not BF - I'm definitely not an earth mother, just seem to get on with BF, although it hurt like hell the first few days this time around, I so nearly gave up (oh shit, even writing about BF, my breast are filling up!!!). The photos are lovely - I must get some more recent ones up of my LO - although he's still yellow and going through the spotty phase!!!, but i love him lots still!

Honey - hope DD is ok? It really is getting time for you now, isn't it? So exciting! Labour is fine - will be over before you realise it and then you have a lovely little baby to cuddle!!!

Mrs - can't believe how soon it is getting for you. How many weeks til you start mat leave (means I can work out how many weeks Christmas shopping I have left!!!).

Bodders - sounds like your night last night was similar to mine!!! hoping that DD doesn't wake up tonight, she's been up for the last 3 nights now and always wants me, which is difficult if I have a parasite clamped to my breast!!

Chooster - how you getting on with your fringe - don't believe Greedy, of course she spends hours preenign in the morning - think how much time she must have with 3 children now!!!

Big wave to Kitkat - hope the move goes well!

DH is needing my help and i must get to bed before the night feeds start, so take care all and I hope you all have good nights not disturbed by bumps or babies!!

OOOooooooooh!!! I am soooo pleased everyone is putting lots more pictures on their profiles

Was just wondering - I could put a picture of my new bag on my profile page or there is a pair of boots I have my eye on - Tee hee. No really - I shouldn't joke about my lack of bump or baby should I??

Sorry to be a pain chick, but did you see my post below?? Wondered if you could advise? If you have the time??

MrsMcSpooky · 18/10/2007 10:23

Morning ladies FILTHY dreams last night including one about Nathan Petrelli from Heroes. I didn?t even realise that I thought he was attractive but I clearly did in my dream DH was not impressed when I told him, got jealous that I was dreaming about other men

Hey Greedy ? thanks 13 weeks (or 15?!) still sounds like ages to me.

Hello Honey

Bodkin ? thanks for your insight on the sleeping in the same room. Sorry to hear that you had a bad night and day yesterday, hope last night was better. Gorgeous, gorgeous little girls don?t talk to me about Facebook, I threw a tantrum on the AN thread because everyone was referring to it and commenting on it and I thought it was exclusionary!

Fettle ? what a night you had! hope you sprayed DH! I start mat leave 9 weeks tomorrow looking forward to it in one way but also very stressed about the lack of house sale, state of our finances and the worry of vastly reduced pay my friend who had a stillborn last November is being induced tomorrow so hoping it all goes really well for her.

Ready LOL I have my pussycats on my profile, if you think we should see your bags or shoes ? go for it!

honeyapple · 18/10/2007 11:01

Morning

Fettle- Laughed out loud reading your post about the milk squirting everywhere and out of poor Toby's nose! I remember that . I also remember waking up saturated with milk and had to end up sleeping with a towel wrapped around me. Can't wait!

My DD is fine although has had 2 nights when she has woken up crying which is really unlike her, and seriously not what I need right now! DP has been great though and got up both times to calm her down. Getting more uncomfortable in bed... DP said he heard my pelvis clicking when I turned over .

Fettle and Bodders- hope you had better nights with your wee ones. Isla sounds like a pretty good sleeper though Bodders, how many weeks is she now?

DP came home last night after having popped to the pub for a couple and he was so jolly and excited about the impending arrival it was really nice (even if it did take the beer for it to come out!). He suddenly started asking me where the phone number was for the midwife, what he was supposed to do when it all happens etc... I think he has just realised that we are going to have a baby .

Right, do you think I should pack a bag for hospital just in case home birth doesnt work out?

Bodkin · 18/10/2007 11:08

Mrs - Really hoping things go well for your friend with the induction What a terrible loss for her last year.

Ready - put a picture of yourself on of course - gowaaaaaaan, you know you want to! Ha ha - I used to be so into the anonymity on here - I'm the opposite now! Nosey cow basically

Fettle - our night's do sound remarkably similar! It's like a relay sometimes, they take it in turns to get you out of bed! Much better night last night for me as well - DD1 back to her normal "log-like" status (and as she went to bed at 6pm, clocked up an impressive 13.5 hours kip!) and Isla seems to have settled to one feed a night for the last few nights, which is great. She gets up at about 6.30, but it's nice to come downstairs and have a quiet cup of tea with her before the whirling dervish that is DD1 gets up

Don't worry too much about the length of time the feed takes - if you have a fast let-down, which it sounds like you have, he may well have drained the boob in 5 mins. I used to worry about fore and hind milk, but as long as he's putting on the weight, wet and dirty nappies and is generally content, he's obviously getting the right balance. If he's getting a bit choked by the initial gush of milk, take him off when it kicks in and hold a muslin over it to absorb it. When it calms down a bit, put him back on. Helped me loads when I did this in the early weeks, and seemed to make her less windy/colicky too. Now she can guzzle it with no problem, and gets a bit bored when it slows down!

Kitkat - can't believe there is another one on this thread moving house! Is there anyone on here who has not either moved house or done major renovations/decorating? Chooster maybe?

Ok, got some baby clothes to flog on Ebay. Better get on to it

Bodkin · 18/10/2007 11:12

Aw, Honey that's really nice that your DP is getting all excited! Mine was the same - couldn't really get him to talk about names or anything and then towards the end of the pg he had so much work on it was the last thing on his mind. he dotes on his new little daughter now though! She light's up like a christmas tree when she sees him as well, it;s so lovely [slushtastic]

Bodkin · 18/10/2007 11:13

ugh, shocking punctuation in that last post, sorry!

Chooster · 18/10/2007 13:58

Hey!

Ooh, lots more pics!! great - I love seeing them. Marcy is adorable Greedy, she looks really alert as well. She looks much darker than your other two? Or is that just the picture. I love the one of the 3 of them . At least you tried BF, as the others have said better that you are happy then grumpy and dreading feeding. I do feel lucky that both times its gone fairly well . I SO know what you mean about wanting to enjoy every minute of the LO. Theo is more likely than not our last one and I just enjoy every bit so much. He's already so big and I have a small nostalgic feeling whenever he grows out of the cute little clothes . I think thats what I didn't like about BUB and the routines. People should enjoy their babies in the early days not shovng them out of the way.

Would love to see a picure of anything you want to put up here Ready!!! I'm with Bodkin - to hell with anonymity

Aw, thats lovely about DP Honeyapple . At least he's realised its happening with (hopefully) a week or two to go . Have you decided on names yet???? I can't remember - sorry if I'm being a divvy and yo've already mentioned it.

Oooh er, dirty dreams eh MrsMcSpooky!!! Sounds intriguing . Your time left at work will fly by, it really will. Before you know it you'll be in your last week. I agree that the LO is better off in your bedroom if you can manage like that. We turfed Max out at 2 weeks but that was cos he hated his basket and needed to sleep in his cot, but Theo is still in with me and I've no plans at the moment to move him. Its DH thats been kicked out . He's been in the spare room for about 8 weeks and it works fine. The PC is in that room so I'm sure he surfs porn when I've gone to bed . We do still manage a bit of fun but sneak through to each others bed, it feels quite naughty . Good luck to your friend, I really hope it all goes well for her.

Me, me - Bodkin, I've not moved or anything!!! It's the only year for the last 4 that we haven't though .

Night times are pretty good in the chooster household. Theo seems to be settling into a pattern of going to bed at 8pm, then waking at 4am ish for food then waking again at about 6.30 ish... Similar to you Bodkin. Its not quite 'Claire verity' but I'm more than happy .

Actually can I ask about night-time nappy changes? I've started to change Theo's nappy at the 4am feed as more often than not he has leaked by 6.30 if I dont... Does this happen to others??

Anyway, better head off soon... Should be packing as we are leaving in 4 hours or so for our trip down South. We are with my mum and dad in Newcastle tonight then meant to be staying with my best friend in Hertford but she just got in touch as he DD has a sickness bug and has had it for about 4 days. She was hoping it would ahve gone by now but she was back at the doctor today. Grrrrr, pesky kids!!!! Dont they know that these things aren't part of the plan. So now I'm not uite sure what to do. I wouldn't be so bothered if it was just us and Max but I really dont want Theo to get anything nasty. So its looks like a hotel for us...

Mmm, I may just check facebook before I go and pack... it is addictive!!! Bodders, I dont know much about it, but its a site that you can use to get in touch with your friends. You can search for people you know and see their profile and you can then see who they are friends with, so you can end up seeing the profiles of people you haven't seen for years. Does that make sense???

MrsMcSpooky · 18/10/2007 14:35

Hey Chooster have a lovely time. LOL at your and DH sneaking about in your own home and his late night viewings ? my Mum discovered that my wee sister was watching porn at night when she was over there, Mum was disgusted!

fettleandbabyfettle · 18/10/2007 17:52

I want to see pictures of Ready's shoes too!!!!

Chooster - didn't realise you were coming down South - it's freezing here, so hope you've packed warm clothes!!! I was changing Toby's nappy at night, but it woke him up too much and then he took a while to settle, so now I don't. but then I do change it around 10-11pm, so it probably works out about the same, just the other end of the night! I can't imagine him lasting 7-7 in one nappy!!!. Sounds like a pretty good routine you've got there - i can't wait until we get there - still waking predictably twice about 2 and 4am - could really do without the 4 am!!!

DD is determined to injure herself this evening, she's climbing all over the sofa and jumping off at alarming speed! It's going to end in tears - just not sure who's!!

Bodkin - thanks for the advice re fast let downs - not sure I could get him off in those first few mins - he hangs on for dear life, gulping away!! DD slept through again last night, so hopefully the previous 3 nights will be the end of it again!

Honey - that's great that DP is finally excited - better late than never!! I would pack a hospital bag, as I always believe in best to be prepared and then you won't need it, but if you are not prepared then you will need one and it will be a panic pack! DP will not pack what you need or want!!!

Hope you got some work done today, Mrs!! How was your walk yesterday afternoon? Very impressed that you walk in!! We went for a walk this afternoon to the doctor's and then to the library and then to feed the ducks - it was really lovely!

How you doing today Greedy? Marcy really is a gorgeous little girl - although she doesn't look that little really!!! Feel quite proud that I suggested the name to you as well! bit bizarre as it was after a girl at DD's nursery, who has turned out to be DD's best friend so she's always talking about Marcy and I get on really well with Marcy's mum, so we are always going out for coffee together (did this morning, so nice to get out of the house and talk adult talk!!!).

Well girls, it's official - I have big boobs!!! That is a medical diagnosis!!! Went to the doctor today regarding the shooting pains I've been having in my breasts while feeding. It is not thrush, which I was pretty sure as Toby doesn't have it. But apparently it is muscular, as my boobs are huge they are dragging down, particularly when Toby is feeding on them - hence the pains!!! Supportive bras is the treatment! (as if I was wondering around bra-less at the moment!!!).

Took Toby to be weighed and he's put on 1lb 5 oz in 10 days, so his quick feeding is obviously not impairing his weight gain. However, as he is still jaundiced, the health visitor took it upon herself to ring the on-call peadiatrician at the hospital to find out about his test results. She's going to call me when she hears back - but we may have to go back to teh jaundice baby-clinic! Which will mean another 4 hours waiting for Toby to wee and more blood tests, poor boy, but best to be safe I suppose! But I'm still really impressed with my HV!

right have to go, before DD destroys the house - throwing cushions now and she's woken Toby!! come home, DH, please!!!

Ah, Chooster - sounds like facebook would definitely appeal to a nosey cow like me then!

Are you using washables at night then , or disp.? I have to confess to using disp. at night as have tried washables twice and both times she didnt settle well at all. i use the Nature Baby ones -never had any leaks, they're great!

Your sleeping arrangements sound brilliant!

Mrs - your poor sis must have been a bit !
