Ready · 15/10/2007 17:03

or

honeyapple · 15/10/2007 17:11

Hi Ready It's scary isnt it how many women see their breasts as sexual objects only and not as the way to feed and nurture their children... makes me rather sad . Surely we can embrace both aspects of our bodies? Infact the general sexualisation of women's bodies in western cultures really gets my goat!

BTW contractions have gone off again! Sorry for getting you excited.

honeyapple · 15/10/2007 17:12

mrs- how is your bid going on the amby?

Ready · 15/10/2007 17:24

I'm with you Honeyapple - so rant away!!

fettleandbabyfettle · 15/10/2007 17:55

Ooh - sorry I started a breast-feeding rant on here today!

Honey - got me excited for a few moments until I saw your later post!!!

Mrs - we'll support you in those first few days of breast-feeding, but there are national support networks you should be able to tap into as well.

It is a design fault that it takes so long for the milk to come in, as that's when it really seems disheartening as they feed and feed wanting food and you really think they must need more (hence the thought of need for formula), but they are getting colostrum! But that's when my nipples were agony, but they are fine now. I did read (Afterwards!!!) that if you massage your nipples with lanolin, like lasinoh for 2 weeks before birth you can prepare your nipples a bit (wish I'd known that beforehand!!!!).

anyway, hungry baby needs feeding again!!! Not sure if we'll ever get into a routine as he always is eating!! May take him to be weighed this week, just out of interest, as it is good to see the weight go on and think I'm doing that, just as Honey says!!. didnt realise they had 2 weight charts, I've only ever been given formula charts, which is a pain as mine have been breast-fed!

Must go

ps Ready, I love you being on here, so stay with us!!

fettleandbabyfettle · 15/10/2007 17:57

ps I never got on with expressing either wiht DD and haven't had the need or urge with DS just yet - I think if and when we start giving him some bottles (I want to be able to do some skiing at Christmas!!), we'll just use formula.

Rainbowdays · 15/10/2007 18:01

sorry - more b/f chat.... I found that if I expressed one day for 10 mins - I got nothing, not even a drop, if I repeated process following day, maybe a couple of drops, but by day three - whoosh, got few ounces. Only learnt this from friend of mine, and it really did work.... hard work for a few ounces but at least if you know in advance it can be worked on....

Sorry just about to be kicked of comp again...

honeyapple · 15/10/2007 19:10

hiya...

had a really quite big contraction about an hour ago... all gone quiet again! DP has gone off to his fitness training thing (running up and down hills in the dark) so have just got DS to entertain DD for half an hour before I put her to bed... he is currently building a tower of lego with her... although just had a look at them and she is just lying in bed watching him!

3 different women at school today said they thought my bump was lower! Who knows eh??

DD crying... better go

fettleandbabyfettle · 15/10/2007 19:16

oooh Honey!!! DDH'd birthday on Wednesday - so that's a good date!!!

Your DS sounds so lovely, as well. very helpful!

Got to go, DH grumpily tidying up around me - I'm feeding, so how I'm supposed to help him, I don't know!! but could be my parents as they are being a bit intrusive this evening!!

OP posts:
Bodkin · 15/10/2007 20:23

I never got on very well with expressing either - it just seemed like an extra chore to do, and the squeak squeak of the pump drove me nuts! I think the best things for collecting milk are those plastic cups that you put over the breast you are not feeding off, so instead of the milk coming out that side going into a pad, you can keep it! It depends on the kind of let down you have, but on numerous occasions mine was full to overflowing! Only works in the early weeks though, bugger all coming out the non-feeding side these days!

Chooster - where are you? I wanted to ask if you had introduced a top-up feed before Theos bedtime yet, and if so, how you;re getting on? I am coming round to the idea, as the last couple of evenings, my boobs have felt really empty by 7pm, and I have been trying to put her to the boob more often to increase supply but it doesn't seem to make much difference. Also, like you say, it's a good idea to introduce a teat before it's too late and they get too fussy!

Honeyapple - hope labour is on it's way for you! Your DS sounds like an absolute star! When are you going to put some pics up of your DCs so we can all have a gawp? Will you do it when your LO arrives? Pleeeeeease!

greedygreedyguzzler · 15/10/2007 20:27

had to wait in all day for stupid mw to come round!!!!! normally they come first thing, but she didnt turn up till 3.30pm! when she did turn up she was the most miserable cow in the world!!! even worse than me a few days ago!!!

shit shit shit battery is going on laptop, back later!

greedygreedyguzzler · 15/10/2007 20:29

in case i dont get the chance to get back on here...................EXCITING honeyapple!!! really hope this is it for you!!!

Chooster · 15/10/2007 22:03

Hello!!! Phew, thats taken me ages to read through it all! Now I've just got to remember what you've all said.

First though, how's the pains now Honeyapple? Its so exciting when there is a new baby on the way . Please keep us informed . Oh yes, and totally agree with bodders, would love to see a pic of your kids - all 3 of them soon! I'm going to try to upload some new ones from Centreparcs. Sorry to hear about all the pains you are having, at least the end is in sight and I really really hope you dont suffer with it in labour. I think greedy is right though, you'll be in too much bloody agony with the contraction . What is it they say about stubbing your toe when you've hurt yourself somewhere else .

I dont blame you at all for getting mad Greedy - I'd have hated having people around in the early days, especially inlaws. They have an amazing knack of winding you up dont they (when I say you, I mean us women!). I get on with my in-laws but they do piss me off sometimes. My MIL and mother are both distrustful of BF. Both me and DH were bottle fed as that was the way it was done then, and both suggest giving DS2 a botle of formula or a top up of water . Anyway, I've started to try to just smile and ignore them rather than try to defend it all and get cross. Well done for getting out and about, it feels good doesn't it!!!! Does it feel nice being out with your 3 kids . I remember getting bad after pains this time but dont think I had anything with DS1. My HV said it gets worse each pregnancy . Hope it gets better!!

Bodkin - Hello! I'm still here, just been getting the house back in order from the holiday and DH has been working most of the weekend. Also had a REALLY bad night with Theo on saturday as he has got his 247th cold - Grrrrrrrrrrrrr. But he only got restless after we had got home from the pub!!! Ah, it was lovely to be out and having a glass of wine in a pub again . Anyway, to answer your Q, yes I'm trying to top him up with a bottle of formula in the evening but he's having none of it. I keep meaning to try the bottle when he is due a feed during the day when he may be more hungry, but just not done it yet. Am not going to cut back on BF but just want to try and get him using the bottle. I've tried expressing but I'm hardly getting anything out and it all seems so much hassle. I've managed to get 4 lots of 2 or 3 oz which is in the freezer, but I just can't be bothered. I'd just much rather feed Theo than faff around with the expresser. By the way Bodkin, I smiled when you mentioned the 'squeak squeak' of the pump!! DH and I got married when DS1 was 4 months old and we went on 'honeymoon' for 2 nights in Paris without him... Needless to say I needed my breast pump with me and had to stop wherever we were every 3 hours or so to pump the old boobs in random toilets!!! The squeaking was awful!!! God knows what people must have thought . It wasn't very romantic either .

MrsMc - so sorry to hear about the house!!! Annoying eh. Fingers crossed it goes now its fixed price. Do you think the church will go for it? Dont feel like you betrayed DH at all, these things happen and you had to let off steam somewhere . I did tell my DH though and he just smiled and said "A man's got to cut loose sometimes". . Hope he's feeling some remorse now... Don't worry he wont let himself get in that state when your LO is here. By the way, I posted on your amby thread... You can have our snuggler if get an amby and want it. The same goes for my breast pump as well if that wouldn't be too wierd .

Hi Fettle - Good to hear Toby is doing well . Theo is still a non-crying baby most of the time so I hope it lasts for you as well. My parents had a similar experience to yours in that Dad had an affair which lasted ages and they had some fairly tough times, not helped that my Dad was living in Russia for 5 years on his own . Anyway, they have the most amazing relationship now and hate being apart. They make each other laugh so much and its lovely to see .

Good to hear from you Firsty and very glad to hear Ty is doing well even if he has been a little unwell recently. Are you going back to work part time or full time? I hope you are feeling ok about it.

Gosh, am running out of steam now!!! Hi to everyone else, and please stay Ready, its lovely to have you here and we will all celebrate with you with that BFP finds you .

My holiday was fab, really really excellent. Had some good laughs with my mum and dad too, not least of which was when my mum got lost after collecting her mobility scooter and couldn't find her way back to our lodge. It took her 2 hours by which time it was dark... But she did make lots of friends on her travels . I think you asked about swimming Bodders - yes we did take Theo swimming - 3 times and he was great in the water - Very smiley!!

Anyway, gotta go!!!

Oooh, one more thing, DH got me some vouchers to have my hair cut / coloured and am going tomorrow. Its quite a nice place so I want to have something different done and not just a trim... Whats the collective thoughts on fringes?????????

fettleandbabyfettle · 16/10/2007 08:42

got to be quick as Toby needs washing, dressing and feeding before trip to doctor to discuss thrush - but Chooster, if you're fringe can be as neat and beautiful as Greedy's in her post-labour pciture, I'd go for it!!! PErsonally, I hate fringes, as they need cutting more frequently than the rest of my hair and I can't be faffed with it, but remember, I'm a wash, comb and go girl, none of this drying and straightening malarky here!!!

Back later for me, if I've time once my au pair (oops mean Mum!!!) leaves today!!

take care
xxxx

Honey, how you doing?

Morning- well no more contractions! Was sort of expecting to have some more in the night, but nought happening. DP is away for the night thursday, so I'd rather hold off for a few days... although this baby is squashing my insides so badly it is getting seriously uncomfortable. I have a feeling it might be a bigger one than my other 2 .

Mrs- re the Amby, I was planning on buying a new mattress, but actually ended up taking it apart and washing all the bits. I reckon it is fine (but that's just me being a tight bugger... maybe if my first baby I would have bought a new mattress )

Pictures- yes, I'm not very clever at uploading.. what do you do?? I do have a digital camera at least! Think I would only put them on for a brief viewing though...

And yes my DS has been very gorgeous recently. i think he has got the message that mummy might need a bit of help at the moment... and hopefully in the future too. He is very excited about the impending birth and is very keen to take the baby in to show his class.

fettle- hope the trip to the doctor is ok and the suspected thrush clears up.

Right, going to go out to get some craft stuff for my DS... he has to build a pyramid over half term...(as you do).

MrsMcSpooky · 16/10/2007 12:35

Hey ladies

Ready ? lots of people share that view of breasts; I don?t get it personally, what could be more natural than feeding your baby if you can? I think DH already thinks the breasts are for the baby and stays away (maybe the 3 months of agony at the beginning teach men to keep their mitts off them!) you know, being here with us might be the difference you need, I do remember reading that you have to think yourself pregnant to get that way, maybe all this chat will spark that thing off in the brain and the body will follow?! Fingers crossed!

Honeyapple ? sorry it was a false alarm I didn?t get the Amby but it went for £71+£25 P&P which to be honest is more than I wanted to pay as once you buy your own mattress for £25 that would be coming close to a new one. There is one in the For Sale bit of MN, she wants £100. Do you think I would be cheeky to make her an offer of £75 including p&p? as that would make my total £100 and worth a 2nd hand one, anything more and I?d prefer a new one ? best price I?ve seen new is £144 with no P&P. Just read what you said about the mattress ? I am sure you are totally right and I am just being fussy but I would want a new one!

Fettle thank you, I am sure I?ll have tons of questions! Thanks for the tip, I?ll get massaging at 37 weeks (might even bring on the contractions!)

Greedy surely it?s not good to have new mums cooped up all day! Why can?t these people commit to times like the rest of us have to!

Chooster - you are like me, parents far away and in-laws on your door step! PIL better not dare give my baby anything whilst I am BFing I?ve got DH?s baby notes and he had sugar in water, the 70s hey!!! Sorry about Theo?s cold. LOL at the Paris toilet incidents ? it was France, I bet they?ve heard worse! why are there so many flashers in Paris incidentally?! Can we come and visit you soon? We?d love to see a real Amby thanks for your offer of the snuggler and the pump, it would be great to borrow both if you really don?t mind. Are you going to buy a jump for the Amby do you think? My sis loved her door frame jumper when she was a kid.

I could be totally wrong about this but my gut feeling is that Beanie will be early and that I?ll need to express whilst he/she learns to feed ? I know that was my Mum and Sister?s experiences too. But then again, I could have a 10 pound whopper at 42 weeks! That?s an amazing story about your folks It was my Mum who had affairs and my Dad used to hire private detectives when we were young to watch her, it was horrible ? she?ll never love him as much as he loves her but they seem happy now. My Mum left her first husband for my Dad who she met on hols so I think he always thinks she?ll do that again, he?s quite insecure ? even after 35 years! He wants to renew their vows in BVI in April but she is having none of it. Sounds like you had lovely hols My DH has applied to work to do 9 week fortnights so he can have a Daddy?s day with Beanie I think it?s lovely. Ohhh a fringe would be lovely on you ? enjoy the pampering!! I?m at home tomorrow or would have tried to grab a coffee with you

DH has a hospital appointment that clashes with my 1st AN session hope the ex isn?t there!! Also, I?m being brave and going to the MW alone tomorrow. I know that sounds stupid but DH has been to every appointment with me this pregnancy and it almost feels like tempting fate (god, it?s even hard to admit that?s how I feel about it )

Anyone know anything about hypnobirthing??!

Chooster · 16/10/2007 21:27

9 day fortnights are a great idea MrsmC - he'll love his 'beanie' day . We'd love to see you guys again and I'm sure I can persuade Theo to demo the amby for you. You could always try to offer £75 to the lady on MN and she may take it if she wants to avoid the ebay hassle, but she may know she can get a lot more for it. I think they do sell quite high on ebay.

Shame your mum doesn't want to renew their vows - sounds lovely and romantic to me

Sorry its a false alarm Honey - Hope you hang on til DP gets back...

Had a good day shopping and haircut today! . I went for the fringe in the end and have put a photo on my profile so you can see it! Am just about to do a profile on facebook as I have a few pals on there. Do any of you lot have one?

By the way just found out that there are 100 people going to my cousins sons christening at the weekend in Welwyn GC. I dont think there were 100 people at our wedding .

Chooster · 16/10/2007 21:43

Popped a couple on from centrparcs too...

fettleandbabyfettle · 16/10/2007 22:08

Fantastic fringe, Chooster and very very cute boys too!!!

I've got a facebook profile - be careful it is very addictive!!!

Right, bed calling!

sleep well all

Morning

Mrs- definitely worth offering £75 for that Amby. My one was sent by DHL on one of their cheapo drops for just £5.99... so postage doesnt have to be massive.

Chooster- glad you are happy with your new haircut... just going to have a look at your pics.

honeyapple · 17/10/2007 10:48

Great hair Chooster and lovely boys.

goingfor3 · 17/10/2007 10:50

honeyapple just wanted to wish you good luck for the immenant birth!!!!!!!

MrsMcSpooky · 17/10/2007 11:40

Hey ladies at home ? working of course! god, sometimes I worry I?ll get the sack you know! the sun is shining (though freezing) eating choc hobnobs and just received some lovely things I ordered from Vertbaudet. Have a MW appointment this afternoon which will involve walking to the village and back which is 45mins (pre-pg!) each way so let?s hope the old back holds up but it will do me good

Feeling a lot better than I was last night, I helped DH with his Spanish homework for 2 hours and had such a headache, he is a nightmare, he always leaves his homework until the last minute and then gets all huffy about it. He hardly spoke to me all evening after that ? some gratitude! We did watch BUB together though and it started a row between us about where the baby should sleep. I had assumed that we?d agreed that it would be in with us for 6 months. Seemed to make sense with breast feeding, not knowing where we?ll be living, keeping the baby out of reach of the pussy cats etc. Now DH is saying it should be in its own room and I tried to explain that I?d be worried about that as the cats might get in and we wouldn?t notice etc, he told me I was being ridiculous but I don?t imagine you are firing on all cylinders at night and it just adds another thing to worry about to the equation. Ah well, maybe we?ll get one that sleeps well or doesn?t cry much and then DH won?t mind the baby being with us!

Chooster thanks hon, I?ll text you; you have to promise not to mention the poo incident to DH though! I?ll offer her £75 and see what happens. Your hair looks fab it really suits you. Theo looks so like your DH, can you both see it?! I?ve kept away from Facebook- don?t need another site to get addicted too! Have a wonderful time at the Christening!

Hey Fettle

Thanks Honey I?ll give it a go how are you feeling?

So excited NH101 from the MC threads is pregnant with twins she was on clomid and had an inkling but it really is so exciting ? I?m a bit obsessed with twins having been one myself

Hey Goingfor3 nice to see you here hon.

fettleandbabyfettle · 17/10/2007 13:26

Hope you're managing to get some work done MrsSpooky!!! Sorry DH is being so grumpy at the moment - if it's any conciliation, mine can be pretty grumpy at the moment, not really like him.

I'm having a slightly bad day - hoping I'm not slipping into depression, I think it is probably utter exhaustion and the fact that my Mum has left and I miss her company. Supposed to meeting some Mum's from DD's school for coffee, but just don't feel sociable at the moment and DD is as school until 3.30 today anyway. Toby is also sleeping alot during the day (and not too badly at night either),so I'm getting worried as he is still jaundiced even though he is 4 weeks. Surely he should be awake a bit more by now? But then it's my fault as I read she who must not be named's book last night and she says a 2-4 week old shouldn't have more than 5 hours nap during the day! And should be able to stay awake for 2 hours at a time! Toby barely manages an hour awake time - he always falls asleep when feeding. Useless GP yesterday was totally unhelpful and told me to chase the results from the hospital regarding his jaundice, but they told me not to ring as they would contact us ifthere was any problem. Therefore, I have no number to call and wouldn't know what I was askng for - wouldn't you think that it would be a doctor'sjob to chase results not the patient's!!!

Anyway, sorry for the self-pitying moan - think I'm going to get some more chocolate.

honeyapple · 17/10/2007 13:29

Thanks Goingfor3 . How are you doing?
Can't believe I will actually have three DC soon!

Mrs- I would definitely say baby should be in with you to begin with. It is recommended to have the baby with you for the first 6 mths, although I have a lot of friends who moved baby earlier than this. If your DH finds the nights too much then he can always sleep somewhere else! I found it really nice to sit at the end of my bed and feed in the middle of the night, rather than having to go to another room. And as you say, it was reassuring to listen to them breathing and snuffling away!

Just going to watch BUB now... chocolate hobnobs sound good...
