@Dreamcatcher007

Could I make a quick poll here please? I was wondering what people’s thoughts are on applying for a new job at my current company given the pregnancy? I’ve been at the company for 8 years, around 5 years in the current role, and there’s a job opportunity for a higher grade role with much more pressure, and more responsibility. I’m planning to take around a year maternity leave hopefully. I still have to pass the interview and tests, but if I do, would you tell about your pregnancy to your new manager straight away? Or would you even bother applying?

I think legally I have to tell my employer about the pregnancy at 20 weeks right? That’s right about when I’d be starting that new job (after the notice period), so not very nice for the manager but at the same time what other way is there for a working mother to grow her career... Feeling torn!

Apply for the job. You must tell your employer about the pregnancy at least 15 weeks before the beginning of the week the baby is due.

I am a full time working mother. I'm not saying it's easy but it's possible!

Thanks @aureliacecilia!

@Dreamcatcher007 I would go for the job if it's what you want in your career - being pregnant and having children shouldn't stop you achieving what you want!

I looked at the nhs guidelines and mr whippy is pasteurised so nothing wrong in eating it. There is a higher risk of catching listeriosis from a mr whippy machine if it's not clean but the risk is the same as a McFlurry machine- which could also be dirty

Thack · 24/08/2020 20:05

@Dreamcatcher007 if you're employers are positive thinkers then telling them might go OK. They legally can't treat you differently, but I appreciate the reality is different. Would you feel OK presuure wise going off, if the role is big?

Thinking of you @Twinny311088
Let us know if you need anything, we're here to listen.

ArtemisBean · 24/08/2020 21:14

I can't believe we're at 12 week scan stage already! In some ways this first trimester has flown by (not the nausea though, god, please let it be over soon!! 🙏) And some twins on the thread too, that's so exciting! Got my scan on Sunday. Bricking it, but also grateful to have got this far. Can't wait to feel vaguely human again in the second trimester. Hang in there, everyone - we've got this!

Babafarmer · 24/08/2020 21:42

@Dipsy77 how exciting. Congratulations!!

@Twinny311088 I really hope everything is ok! X

Dreamcatcher007 · 24/08/2020 21:58

@Taylortyler @Thack Thanks ladies! I guess I’ll go ahead and apply and will have to think about it carefully only if I’m actually offered the job! Wish me luck Smile

LuHen · 24/08/2020 22:07

@Dreamcatcher007 absolutely apply - you go girl! Best of luck xx

SnickerdoodleSnek · 24/08/2020 22:26

Good evening lovely ladies!

First pregnancy here! Estimated at 9+1 weeks, due date is March 21st.

12 week scan is booked for Sept 11th - which feels like an age away! Sadly hubby can't come in with me, which sucks. 😩

Man, the nausea is real today. Water is my best friend.

Thack · 25/08/2020 03:22

To share an odd observation (forgive me : dark sense of humour humour and it's 3am)...

I'm 9 weeks.

Depending on what website, my baby is moving from being blueberry /cherry sized to raspberry /kumquat.

Feelin' like it's some kinda weird fruit salad right now 🤔

Thack · 25/08/2020 03:26

I just read that my uterus is going from lemon/orange to the size of a pomegranate.

I think I'm onto something with the fruit salad theory here....

LuHen · 25/08/2020 07:54

Morning all! Just wanted to send some positive vibes to anyone who is struggling this week- try not to wish the time away as its so precious. Best of luck to anyone with scans, thinking of you all and hoping to see your lovely pics. We joined a hypnobirthing course and its amazing, started on Sunday. Everyone else was like 20 weeks plus, oops! Didn't seem to matter though :) xx

LuHen · 25/08/2020 08:05

I also wanted to ask if anyone had heard of group B strep, or had the test with previous pregnancies? I am going to request a test when I'm in the last trimester as we have a friend who was carrying the bacteria and if she had been tested it would have saved her a lot of heartache. I encourage you guys to have a read and just make yourselves aware - I just read about it on the NHS website. Hope you don't mind me mentioning xx

krj2608 · 25/08/2020 08:15

@LuHen

I had group b strep with my first but not my second. It was picked up when I went into early labour. All was ok with us. We were kept in after birth for just over 24 hrs for monitoring x

spierse · 25/08/2020 08:18

Hi ladies, just finished reading all the posts, have stayed off the groups until now as so anxious with this pregnancy. I had my first pregnancy last year which seemed to be going great (no spotting or cramps) was devastated at my 12 week scan to find out I had an MMC and had to have an MVA. That was end of November, I got pregnant again in January and then miscarried naturally in early march around the 8 week mark. I am now 10+1 and due in March, over analysing every single little symptom change and checking with Dr Google on a daily basis. Haven't had any scans or an Dr's appointments yet, had my booking appointment over the phone. My 12 week scan is booked for the 14th of September.
Reading all of your messages I feel I could be the one writing them half the time, gives me comfort that there are so many of us going through similar experiences, being 39 I am constantly worried I left all of this too late and that it will end in heartbreak for us, cant stop myself with all these negative thoughts 😔

LuHen · 25/08/2020 08:22

thanks @krj2608 seems like its not the most straightforward thing - but think im going to get the test pre labour so I know if im positive! Xx

SnickerdoodleSnek · 25/08/2020 08:37

@spierse So sorry to hear you've had such a rough year with MMCs. Keeping everything crossed for you for this pregnancy!

Is anyone else's sleep just utter garbage? I'm an insomniac anyway, but rather than just staying awake I'm just constantly waking and sleeping! It's horrendous, and I've just started a new job so this is not what I need right now! 😩

Mrs1989 · 25/08/2020 08:51

@spierse welcome to the group and congratulations on your pregnancy Smile My 12 week scan is also on 14th September! I’m due 28th March, although of course that may change!

I am so sorry to hear about your miscarriages and I can understand it would have made you very anxious with this pregnancy. I have also been very anxious and feeling that I’ve lost my ‘innocence’ when it comes to being pregnant. I feel I’m just too aware now of the things that can go wrong. I miscarried naturally at 7 weeks back in January. I have no children and am just praying it works out this second time. I have had no spotting or bleeding (touch wood), so for the last few weeks I’ve switched to panicking about MMC. I haven’t had strong pregnancy symptoms so that unnerves me a little bit, but I’m aware that can be normal for lots of women. I have a private scan booked for this Friday when I should be 9+5 and just praying for positive news that will help carry me through to 12 week scan.

Hopefully we can both get to 12 weeks and start feeling more positive. Sending you a big hug! xxx

KB13 · 25/08/2020 09:06

Hey ladies, I’m due 5th March. Got my 12 week scan on Thursday. My 2 daughters can’t wait cause they won’t have to keep it a secret anymore 😂

@SnickerdoodleSnek Yes. Between back ache, peeing 3 thousand times and just being generally uncomfortable I haven’t slept properly in over a week 😴😴

spierse · 25/08/2020 09:15

Thanks @SnickerdoodleSnek I'm having same issues, constantly waking up, taking forever to get to sleep, its not been fun, I'm normally out like a light!
@Mrs1989 I have learnt the symptoms thing is not the greatest indicator, I had bad bad morning sickness in my first pregnancy, i literally fealt like death right up until the 12 week scan and I was a MMC, there are loads of women on here whose symptoms have been light or have come and gone and have had healthy scans, we need to try not to overthink it.

DSP21 · 25/08/2020 09:39

@Mrs1989 in the same boat worrying about mmc now 😩 I spoke to the gp regarding the minor symptoms I did have and the epu said they wouldnt scan and didnt seem worried..great! Going to book in a priv scan too, although I haven't had a bad experience myself, the internet has definitely scared me and taken the joy out of the first trimester

Babafarmer · 25/08/2020 10:06

They worries the first trimester are utterly rubbish. I feel
So guilty wishing time away until the 12 week scan. Mine is next Tuesday so exactly a week to wait and I'll be 12+3. I had a private scan at 10 weeks and it has definitely helped ease the worry and anxiety a bit but it's still there.

Any know when the placenta is meant to take over. I can't cope with this tiredness. I am exhausted all the time x

MrsAndMrs · 25/08/2020 10:10

I had group b strep with my first and the midwife said they will treat me as if I do this time around too.

I'm 10+4 days now and struggling with tiredness and emotions! I'm an emotional wreck....is anyone else feeling this?
