Hi @AprilShowers2021

Here’s a basic list of maternity contacts throughout your pregnancy www.nhs.uk/conditions/pregnancy-and-baby/antenatal-appointment-schedule/

These may vary a little because of Covid though.

At your bookin appt your midwife will give you your notes, and there should be a similar schedule in there. Booking appt is basically a huge long list of questions about you and your partners medical history, essentially to work out our if you have any risks to your pregnancy and that would trigger a referral to consultant care accordingly. They’ll also do bloods, blood pressure, weight etc.

The first scan is due around 12 weeks. If you’ve seen your GP already they might have referred you for it? If not, your midwife will pick this up at the booking appt and make sure one is arranged.

That’s how it happens around Oxfordshire anyway!! Some local variation, but that’s the basics of it :)

@Nazz10 I guess this is the start of a lifetime of mum guilt for us. Sorry you're having some nausea too. Luckily mines not too bad so whilst annoying, it's manageable. Hopefully the placenta takes over soon so we only have a very short spell of it.

@Parkandride You might avoid it! I woke up every morning for 12 weeks in my first pregnancy wondering if today was the day and the sickness never arrived, I didn't have a single symptom. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you.

@sunshined123 I actually told my MD today. I'm 9+4 (I think.....) But we aren't often in the office together or alone so it seemed like a good opportunity. It gives me more flexibility for appointments without having to worry and I asked him to keep it confidential for now. His initial response was Erm right...ok. Then he remembered and congratulated me 🙄 Its a weight off that he knows though

AprilShowers2021 · 08/09/2020 20:30

@pandabear437 thanks so much, really helpful. Yes I believe they will book me in for a scan later. I'm in Berkshire, so it seems to be a similar process.

@sunshineD123 I personally haven't told work as only 9 weeks and there are lots of redundancies happening and I just don't want to get them a reason. I know that I'm protected by certain employment laws once pregnant, but I don't want to take the risk. They will know once I can't hide it any longer.

Legally you don't have to inform your employer until 15 weeks before your expected due date. They also can not discriminate against you in anyway due to being pregnant. However, if you're particularly sick, can't hide it or you get on well enough with your team/employer maybe you could tell them earlier. It's such a personal decision.

SunshineD123 · 08/09/2020 21:49

Thanks @pandabear437 I bet that was a relief for you to have told them so you don't have to worry about it. I'm so anxious about it.

Thanks for your reply to @AprilShowers2021. I wondered when everyone was going to tell their bosses, especially because of covid.
Of course my babie's health is number one but I don't want to say too early either.
I had bleeding in the first trimester of my 2nd pregnancy and he ended up being premature, so I would just prefer to wait until I've had a scan and know everything's okay. We haven't told family yet either.

SunshineD123 · 08/09/2020 21:51

Sorry was mean't to say thanks @Sals27- about mentioning it to your MD.

Sals27 · 08/09/2020 22:01

@SunshineD123 I don't really think there's a right and wrong it's just when you feel comfortable. My MD is a bit of a prat (hence right ok..) but we've worked together for 9 years in various different capacities and we get on well so I although I felt awkward telling him, because I always feel like I'm being a massive inconvenience, I know I can trust him.

We had a private scan where I saw the heartbeat and confirmed everything is looking good a couple of weeks ago and Id not have said anything without that first.

SunshineD123 · 08/09/2020 22:16

Thanks @Sals27 you have put me at ease. It is nice to have someone that you can trust for sure. Smile
I bet it was lovely to have the private scan and see that all is well too.
May have to book a couple of private scans myself as it doesn't look like many hospitals are allowing partners to attend.

BuckleUp · 10/09/2020 08:35

Hi guys, sorry I've been quiet on here. I've been feeling a bit sorry for myself this week with the nausea. I'm worried the tightened COVID restrictions will mean DH can't come to the 12 week scan, so I've booked a private one for this this Saturday when I should be about 9+5. At least this way I know DH will be with me for my first scan and it'll help break up the waiting too.

How are we all? x

Jigglypuff88 · 10/09/2020 09:14

Hello everyone, I hope you are all well.

Been struggling to keep up with social media etc let alone MN threads. So tired.

I feel so sick now at 9 weeks and my boobs are getting more sore each day. I really hate the first trimester!

LuckyFlash · 10/09/2020 09:28

It reassuring to hear some of you seem to be feeling just as bad as me! This nausea is just relentless from the moment I wake up to the moment I go to sleep. I’ve cancelled so many plans because I feel so bad and am worried people will find out before I’ve had my scan. Ugh!

DH can only come to the 20 week scan in my hospital so I’ll definitely be going solo for my 12 week which is sad. @BuckleUp if your hospital are allowing partners to all scans I doubt they will change that now (unless you were planning on having 6 people there haha)

BuckleUp · 10/09/2020 09:34

@LuckyFlash We should be reaching the end of the main sickness phase soon 🤞🏻. It is awful though, sometimes I feel so lucky to be wfh during it, but then I think I might feel better being practically busy at work than staring at a computer at home 🤷🏼‍♀️.

My hospital were only making noises about partners being able to attend, it hasn't been confirmed yet. I was worried they might change their minds as covid cases increase. Are you having a private scan so your DH can attend?

@Jigglypuff88 Sorry you're feeling rough too. I'm with you regarding the boobs, I can't even hug DH they hurt so bad! So ready for the 2nd trimester 😂

Jigglypuff88 · 10/09/2020 09:43

@BuckleUp I thought the symptoms would get better but they are definitely getting worse. With my first I lost weight because I couldn’t eat. I am entering that realm of nausea now, it’s horrible. I work in the community with people so being busy does help but sometimes I will get a wave of nausea, especially if their house smells like cooking or it is just a grim house!

I remember with my first, I was in someone’s house talking about their anxiety when I started inwardly freaking out because I suddenly went really light headed. Managed to leave and rest my head on my steering wheel for 20 mins while it passed 🙊 not the ideal patient to faint on 🤣

LuckyFlash · 10/09/2020 09:46

@BuckleUp ah I see. 🤞 they change their rule before your 12 week! I have mine in 2.5 weeks and no talk of change so doubtful. I’ve ummed and ahhed a lot about a private scan. I’d really like to have one with DH so he can see and there’s literally a place on my road but I’m also kind of against paying £50 for something that’s essentially unnecessary health-wise. I think I might just be being too stubborn as I can clearly see the benefits. We’ll see!

The boob pain is real! One of my nipples has got way bigger too. Just the one... really happy about that... lol

LeopardLover · 10/09/2020 09:53

Morning gals!

Sorry the sickness has been so tough for you. 😔 I think I've been getting off lightly. 8 weeks today, I just feel off - when you think you might be coming down with a dodgy tummy. I've had sore bloating and the underwire of my bra is cutting in again!

@BuckleUp How exciting you've booked a scan in! Hope it goes well. 😊 Did your cramps ease a little?

LeopardLover · 10/09/2020 09:54

@LuckyFlash Omgosh, I swear one of my nipples is bigger than the other too 🙈

BuckleUp · 10/09/2020 10:05

@Jigglypuff88 Aww no, that's less than ideal! At least you managed to get out in time 😂. I hope this time the nausea is more bearable for you x

@LuckyFlash I felt the same way, it's cost £70 for a private scan which seems silly, but in my mind is well worth it to enable DH to attend. It's our first baby so I want to share as much of it with him as I can. Still hoping they relax the rules still though! Your nipple comment made me lol, I've been lucky with evenness so far. Perhaps your other side will catch up! 😂

@LeopardLover I'm considering myself lucky as I haven't physically been sick yet but the nausea is constant. I describe it to DH as the longest hangover I've ever had 😂. The bloating is so real! Have you invested in some soft bras yet? My cramps eased a little, I think it was the start of a UTI so trying to drink more fluids. When's your private scan booked for? I can't remember sorry x

LeopardLover · 10/09/2020 10:29

@BuckleUp That sounds bad enough to me! The hangover without the fun 😉 I sized up but they arrived too small 🙈 Then they were sold out in the next size up. I really miss just popping to a shop instead of getting everything online! Glad your pains have eased. I've found I'm drinking sooo much water now. My scan is on Saturday too. 😊

BuckleUp · 10/09/2020 10:50

@LeopardLover That's unlucky, you really have grown! All my bras still fit but they're definitely feeling rounder these days 😂. Online shopping for clothes does my head in, and even if you go into a real shop it's a lucky dip because the fitting rooms are closed.. Exciting!! We'll be able to share pictures! How far along will you be?

LeopardLover · 10/09/2020 11:29

@BuckleUp Unfortunately I'm just growing around my ribs ha ha. And rounding out too! Yeah, that's so true. I'm planning to just size up by 2 in everything now! My high waisted skinny jeans are starting to cut in but I'm trying to ignore the situation.. I think it's because I'm less active now, I just want to sleep and chill which is the complete opposite of me normally! I hate sitting still.

Haha yes! Although mine will be a little blob. Well done for waiting a little longer, I wish I did but I'm also desperate to get reassurance! X

LeopardLover · 10/09/2020 11:31

@BuckleUp Forgot to say I'll be 8+2!

BuckleUp · 10/09/2020 13:42

@LeopardLover Aww that'll be lovely and will reassure you. I like how the private scans break up the long wait. Ours is a last minute decision, I didn't intend to have one so the fact I'll be further on is just a bonus 😊. The bloating won't be helping our waistlines either!

LeopardLover · 10/09/2020 14:13

@BuckleUp I honestly don't know how people wait! I've probably just read too many sad stories. I always like to feel really informed so tend to read up on the bad as well. Although I am feeling really positive - my mum said she never had much nausea with me (vs my brothers) so I'm convinced it's a girl! 😉

I'm looking forward to feeling more like gentle exercise again!

Richmonder · 10/09/2020 17:09

Hello again!

Had my 10 week appointment yesterday, heard the heartbeat again and saw kicking and wriggling which I really wasn’t expecting to see. Heart rate looks good and everything is as it should be.

Also had yet more blood taken Hmm for trisomy abnormalities (I don’t know how else to put that, really sorry if it offends anyone, I don’t mean to) and they said that at this point the foetal blood mixes with mine a teeny bit so they will be able to analyze the DNA so we can find out what we’re having!

Is it bad that I want to know what we’re having but I don’t want to tell anyone else?(apart from DH, but he’ll be in the room too when we find out).

Won’t know the results for another 3-5 weeks as they send the lab work out then it comes back in. They said that if anything popped up on it that I’d receive a phonecall before my appointment so we don’t go in and get blindsided. Have also booked the 16-20 week anatomy scan too.

LeopardLover · 10/09/2020 17:28

@Richmonder Hello! That's great news. 😊 Was this the Harmony test?

I don't blame you for wanting to know the gender and for keeping it quiet! Knowing me I'd blurt it out by mistake 🙈

Richmonder · 10/09/2020 18:31

@LeopardLover I think so - tests for the same trisomies.
