Looks like partners attending scans is sounding more promising! Lots of places relaxing the rules, hope we all get lucky

FoxtrotOscarPoppet · 03/09/2020 17:37

I’ve been booked in for my first midwife appointment next week.
When I was speaking to the midwife on the phone I asked her about scans. She said that where we are (Sussex) partners are allowed at 12 weeks scans and in the next couple of weeks they’ll be relaxing it for partners to attend the 20 week scan also. 🤞

Parkandride · 03/09/2020 17:51

Well DH got to see a scan sooner than expected, had a big bleed with clots - cried on the phone to my ivf clinic so they saw me out of hours and today they relaxed the rules on partners at pregnancy scans.

Luckily all ok, doubled in size since last week, heartbeat obvious even to me. Such a relief. I do have a subchorionic bleed so might be a few more hairy moments to come but it's by my cervix not near baby

A glass of wine would be lovely right now!!

FoxtrotOscarPoppet · 03/09/2020 18:02

@Parkandride glad all is ok for you. I had a subchorionic bleed years ago when I was pregnant with my DD.
Hugely worrying at the time but thankfully all was ok.

Richmonder · 03/09/2020 18:48

@BuckleUp I’m not sure if my experience is reflective of a “typical” one as I access a military facility through DHs job. It’s enormous and very shiny Grin. From what I saw of the hospital last time we were in, most departments were up and running to some degree.

I phoned up for my initial appointment at the Obstetrics dept and had an appt scheduled for about two weeks after that. On the call they asked about my last period date, any medications and if it was my first pregnancy.

There was more paperwork filled in when I arrived, went for a scan. They tried an external ultrasound to start with but the sac was too far down so an internal was carried out. We got to hear the heartbeat and some scan photos to take home (not that you can see a huge amount!) DH was allowed to be there for the scan but not for the second part which was more of a talk through about prenatal classes they offer - loads usually but none at the moment - and medication I’m on, pre existing health conditions etc.

It was all very calm and the staff seem nice. They booked my next appointment (next weeks one) then I was sent off to have some bloods taken.

LeopardLover · 03/09/2020 19:23

@Laurenjoy1 Potentially! The tiredness is something else, isn't it. Exciting you're 8/9 weeks already. 😊

@Richmonder Welcome!! I bet the first scan was incredible. Do you have frequent appointments in the US or does it just vary? The US vloggers seem to have more appointments than here! Sorry you're feeling nauseous but bless your DH. Mine is the same, getting me snacks and being a dreamy partner in crime by offering lots of sympathy haha.

@Maydot Congratulations! Fingers crossed for a healthy and happy pregnancy. I can't imagine running after a toddler while feeling rubbish - well done 👏🏻

@BuckleUp Yes, just counting down the days and weeks. ❤️ Your nephews will be the perfect ages for fussing over the baby 😁

@MooseyGoose90 Welcome! Glad your nausea is easing. 💕 My booking appointment is just before I'm 10 weeks. Can't wait! 💜

@FoxtrotOscarPoppet Such positive news about the 12 week scan with partners. 😊

@Parkandride Gosh, that sounds scary. I'm glad all is well!

Is anyone else struggling with underwire bras? I've had to sack off bras while I wait for some soft ones to arrive. I'm small chested so never thought I'd have this issue but I can't keep a bra on for more than a couple of hours. My sports bras feel too tight as well 🙈 Didn't expect this kind of change in 7 weeks! I'm also peeing in the night without fail now. Who am I!

Richmonder · 03/09/2020 20:18

@LeopardLover, from what I can tell, I’ll have appointments once a month (ish) until I’m 28 weeks, then every two weeks until I’m 36 weeks and then once a week from then on. Lots of appointments! If this “air bridge” from New York comes to anything I’ll have to time any visits back to the UK very carefully Grin

I also have the same problem with bras! Luckily I have some soft ‘crop top’ type ones but I don’t know how much longer they’ll fit for...

BuckleUp · 04/09/2020 07:39

@MooseyGoose90 Welcome to the group 😊. That must have been a lovely surprise for you!

@Parkandride So glad the scan was able to reassure you. Bleeding is so scary at this stage.

@Richmonder The information they're asking for sounds the same but it sounds like you'll be getting a lot more appointments and one-to-one care. The facility sounds lovely and new! My sister was born on a military base, they really look after you so I'm sure you'll be in the best of hands 😊

@LeopardLover I'm not struggling with bras yet but my boobs are on fire. Like you I'm fairly small chested but they've definitely got rounder the last few weeks! I only have one sports bra that keeps them strapped down tight enough to run in, otherwise the pain is awful. Luckily wfh means I can go bra less most of the day 😂

I'm getting really bad cramps at the moment, feels like peak AF cramps. I can't sneeze or cough lying on my back either or it feels like I'm pulling my stomach muscles. Anyone else struggling with this? There's no bleeding so I guess I shouldn't be worried but it does hurt..

MamaLulu1986 · 04/09/2020 07:58

@BuckleUp I'm with you on the pains, I've had then since I found out I was pregnant and they are quite strong sometimes.... they seem to have eased off this week but when I'm lying down in bed, I struggle to get into a position where I don't get a strange pulling/stretching sensation???
Also sorry if tmi, but do any of you ladies have bad tummy/diarrhoea in the mornings???🤔

BuckleUp · 04/09/2020 08:01

@MamaLulu1986 Thanks, that's reassuring. They're definitely worse when lying on my back or if I've been sat bent over my desk for too long. It must just be everything stretching out 🤷🏼‍♀️. I'm having the opposite issue to you, I can't go! I think it's normal for your usual routine to go a bit off kilter though.

ARIO · 04/09/2020 08:12

Hey all, I'm 8 weeks today and nausea is awful but no sickness yet. I'm still waiting to hear from a midwife or get a letter about a booking appointment. Hopefully it will be soon. @FoxtrotOscarPoppet I'm Sussex based too (West) how long did it take for your booking appointment?

FoxtrotOscarPoppet · 04/09/2020 11:38

Morning @ARIO. Yep West here as well.
It took a good 4 weeks from registering to hearing from the midwife. Booking in appointment is next week. She did apologise when she called and said it was due to a couple of the team being on annual leave so they were working through a backlog.

ARIO · 04/09/2020 11:48

Gosh that is long. I only registered last week at 7 weeks so hopefully won't have to wait too long. They say you should have the booking appt before 10 weeks!

Anyone here work in a school? I'm starting back on Monday and dreading it. I just know I'm going to struggle with tiredness and nausea.

LeopardLover · 04/09/2020 14:45

@Richmonder I love that! Sounds like they will really take care of you. 😊 Ahhhh, don't get caught out! My pregnant SIL is overseas and planning to visit at Xmas... I'm just worried for her re timings and flying 😅 She could have an early Xmas present! I'm glad it's not just me, I sized up but they just arrived and are all too small so I'll have to order another lot in a bigger size 🙈

@BuckleUp We're still with my MIL so I'm trying to cover up going bra less with baggy jumpers 😅 Sorry you're dealing with pesky cramps! I wonder if this is common around 8 weeks while your uterus is stretching? I still have cramps but they aren't painful right now. I hope it eases so you can get some sleep!

@MamaLulu1986 I keep going from one extreme to the other! 🙈

Although I struggled a bit with nausea yesterday, I have nothing today and my boobs feel less likely to burst. I know symptoms come in waves but it's made me feel a bit down in the dumps! I want that reassurance. 😔

MamaLulu1986 · 04/09/2020 16:26

At least we know we're all in the same boat I guess 🥰

I had my booking in appointment this morning, but different to when I had my first with being over the phone but all good 👍🏻

MamaLulu1986 · 04/09/2020 16:28

Also when I spoke to my midwife this morning, she said the cramping/stretching/pulling is very common around this time and especially so if it's not your first pregnancy as everything "gives" a lot quicker lol!

She also said not to worry about the diarrhoea as hormones can cause your digestion to be a bit crazy 🤪

GreySkyClouds · 04/09/2020 17:17

@MamaLulu1986

At least we know we're all in the same boat I guess 🥰

I had my booking in appointment this morning, but different to when I had my first with being over the phone but all good 👍🏻

What’s the purpose of the booking appointment? I though they had to take bloods?
Parkandride · 04/09/2020 17:43

Also keen to know more about phone booking apts! When I've looked up what to expect it's quite physical things e.g. urine test, hand over your notes, weigh you. I know there's a lot of health questions so maybe they just do that?

pandabear437 · 04/09/2020 21:36

My booking appointment is scheduled as a phone call in the morning, then a quick face to face later that day to take blood, hand over notes etc

Perhaps some places are combing the physical tasks at booking in with the 12 week scan?

MamaLulu1986 · 04/09/2020 22:21

So my booking in appointment was over the phone where they covered everything health wise such as family history, current and past health, partners health, birth preferences, hospital preferences, estimated due date, booking in of 12 week scan, discussion of any previous pregnancy's and births, and then booking in of 15 week midwife appointment (also likely to be over the phone)

I then have a further appointment next week to be weighed, have my bloods done, ruined checked and handover of any paperwork.... hope that helps xx

MamaLulu1986 · 04/09/2020 22:22

That was supposed to say urine not ruined 🙈

SkyeBarn · 05/09/2020 01:32

The waiting game before my 12 week scan make me so nervous. Every little thing I start to overthink, anyone else? I've got my midwife appointment (phone call) in 2 weeks and I'm actually so excited just to make it feel real.

FoxtrotOscarPoppet · 05/09/2020 07:44

Waking up every night at the moment between 2 and 4 to visit the loo.
Then when I go back to bed the nausea hits and I can’t fall back to sleep. Hmm

Lynz2020 · 05/09/2020 10:51

My nausea hits as soon as I get out of bed and I'm starving all the time.

LeopardLover · 05/09/2020 11:02

@pandabear437 It's so interesting how different trusts are operating. Mine is a phone call and there's been no mention of a follow up appointment so far.

@MamaLulu1986 Gosh, I haven't even thought about birth preferences at this stage! 🙈 I wish everything was booked in advance - I don't want to tell work before I tell our families and normally need 4 weeks notice to get annual leave. 😬

@SkyeBarn Absolutely this! I don't have mine for 3 weeks but can't wait.

@FoxtrotOscarPoppet @Lynz2020 Sorry you are both suffering so much!
