@1990shopefulftm I keep turning my egg on and its around 19 degrees in the evening. My room is direct south, but the nursery is going to be north, so hopefully will help when she goes in her cot.

@BS9790 I've just used a cabin suitcase, and placed a cool bag in there with snacks / food. Then for baby I am planning on using the changing rucksack. Think its a good idea to pack for a few days.

I'm hoping someone can sneak me in a Starbucks and Greggs sausage roll from over the road!

@DressingGown87 thanks for setting it up!

Monkeyseesmonkeydoesnt · 06/08/2020 18:14

Thanks! Maybe I didn't update ages ago but were expecting another little boy x

SJR86 · 06/08/2020 18:26

Thanks! I'd not clocked quite how many boys there are!

Freddie1987 · 06/08/2020 18:59

I'm maybe being too overly conscious of the cold but the only sleeping bag I've bought is 3.5 tog! We live in an old Victorian terrace though...will get a couple other sizes to mix it up.

@FirstSurprise001 yes, great shout on those bits from Boots - will definitely get some as they seem a bit too expensive full price.

I haven't even thought of a hospital bag yet, I mean I've looked at pretty weekend bags I want but that's it...can't actually believe I'll be at 30 weeks next week though 😱

If anyone's still stuck on antenatal classes, I've found the Modern Midwife's postnatal video series good and it's quite cheap. I also watched a Positive Birth company YouTube talk on breastfeeding if anyone wants the link. It's not the most structured but has loads of good info to think about.

Sls668 · 06/08/2020 19:03

I’m also surprised how many boys there are! Wow!

Mc3209 · 06/08/2020 19:07

@DressingGown87 thanks for starting the new thread.

I am rather optimistically planning to use a diaper changing bag (it's a rucksack style one) as my hospital bag... I usually travel light when going away for long weekends etc, so hopefully will be able to get all necessary stuff into it 😬

Flora20 · 06/08/2020 19:19

@DressingGown87 Thanks for setting up the thread!

I've not even thought of packing a bag yet, guess I should! 29 weeks tomorrow... Last time I'd gathered things together but not actually packed them when I went into labour. Fortunately I didn't need to go to hospital but if I had it would have been with everything crammed in at random!

With sleeping bags at first it's better to go thinner - better for babies to be too cold than too hot. When my first was born it was freezing (remember the 'beast from the east'?!) but the midwife was adamant she didn't need anything other than the sleepsuit and single blanket. I was covered in a thick down duvet and winter pyjamas so it felt a bit odd!

1990shopefulftm · 06/08/2020 19:24

@DressingGown87 I d forgotten about the Gregg's across the road, might be just what you need after labour.

BS9790 · 06/08/2020 21:10

@DressingGown87, I was thinking a cabin suitcase would be the best idea. Mines a bit scruffy, might order a new one 😁

The maternity pads alone take up so much space! 😂

roarfeckingroarr · 06/08/2020 21:28

We are getting CLOSE!!!!!!

roarfeckingroarr · 06/08/2020 21:32

I've started serious nesting. I made a list of things I want to do before baby arrives and things we need to buy. I've now ticked off emptying, cleaning and sorting the bookcases and my bathroom cabinet. I've also deep cleaned the microwave and started sorting and cleaning kitchen cupboards. My bag is nearly packed. Everything has been bought with amazon subscriptions set up for nappies, wipes, nappy cream etc. Still have to clean skirting boards, rest of cupboards, wash all the baby's clothes, finish packing my hospital bag and finish my birth plan. DP is going to deep clean the oven and fridge again and sort out our spare room. Getting there!

DressingGown87 · 06/08/2020 21:38

@Monkeyseesmonkeydoesnt congratulations on your little boy. Sorry I might have missed you, I only quickly went through before I logged off my pc.

@SJR86 I know seems to be the month of the boys!

@Freddie1987 I’ve signed up to the maternity collectives. But will try modern midwife too.

@1990shopefulftm someone was eating one when I left the hospital today, and I really wanted one. 😭

@BS9790 I know and the Bridget Jones knickers! 😂 thought if I get moved around the hospital it’s easy just to zip it up, and wheel it.

DressingGown87 · 06/08/2020 21:40

@roarfeckingroarr sounds likes you’ve been really productive! I’ve done every cupboard, room, drawer, box, rail! And the whole house has been cleaned. Just need to do the kitchen appliances, and buy the rest of the baby stuff. We are getting close! Love the amazon subscription idea.

OP posts:
roarfeckingroarr · 06/08/2020 22:55

@DressingGown87 that's loads! Well done 🙌

Applesandlemons · 06/08/2020 23:02

Hey all! I’m more of a lurker than a poster but I am also expecting a boy! I didn’t realise how many boys there were due in this group.

I have to be honest you all sound SO organised. I am much more behind on the purchases. Clothes and big essentials are done but I haven’t even thought about toiletries or the hospital bag and the baby’s room is still in a state of disarray!

Off on a mini holiday to Cornwall this week so better get in gear after that!

KitKatKit · 06/08/2020 23:59

@DressingGown87 Thank you for the new thread!

Re: hospital bag, I think I have most stuff for me and baby - this week I bought some cheap nighties and a thin dressing gown for chucking over me in the hospital if I feel like I need to preserve my modesty at some point! I'm using a double sided cabin suitcase, one side for me and one side for baby. I'm generally pretty good at packing minimally so let's see how I get on with that! DHs massive rucksack will have snacks for both of us and stuff for him.

@roarfeckingroarr You've been super productive! I feel useless in comparison, today I managed to make a prawn stir fry and put some laundry away - that was an achievement in itself!

Not looking forward to tomorrow, it's forecast 35 degrees down here. I'll be glued to the fan all day and night it seems...

KitKatKit · 07/08/2020 00:03

@Applesandlemons Welcome! Don't stress, I'm the opposite, got clothes etc but no big stuff!

Not sure who asked about sleeping bags, I've got two that are 2.5 tog because I like a cooler room, and controversially I havent bought any long sleeved vests because I've heard they're a faff under sleepsuits/babygrows. So, I figured 2.5 will be thick enough and make up for no long sleeve vests!

Mc3209 · 07/08/2020 08:14

@KitKatKit I didn't buy any long sleeve vests either, so doing same as you and just bought few 2.5 tog sleeping bags.
@Applesandlemons welcome! I haven't even started to think about nursery, I cannot face dealing with the whole 'where-do-we-put-all-furniture-we-need-to-take-out-to-make-space-for-nursery-furniture'. Won't be needing it at least until 6 months after birth, so plenty of time.

AdventureAhead · 07/08/2020 11:21

@KitKatKit - I've heard the same about long sleeved vests so have only bought short sleeve and have 2 x 2.5tog sleeping bags to compensate for that and our cool bedroom (given the choice I would sleep with the window open all year round).

Haven't started cleaning the house yet, still trying to finish renovating it first!

Is anyone else struggling with indigestion? It wakes me up in the middle of the night and all I can do is have a Rennie and sit up for half an hour or so. Making me very sleep during the day. The midwife gave me a prescription for some fake gaviscon, I'm not normally one to moan about taste but it is vile (salty and minty and extremely thick and gloopy) and doesn't seem to do much! Trying to eat small and often. Anyone have any other cunning solutions?

DressingGown87 · 07/08/2020 12:01

@Applesandlemons Congratulations on your little boy! Hope your have a great time in Cornwall.

@KitKatKit Hope you've not melted down there? It warm up north cloudy and about 24 degrees, so not too bad! lots of ice pops to stay cool and hydrated. It was me who intially asked about sleeping bags, I like my room cool too. So ordering a 2.5 and 1 tog, and some short sleeved vests and longsleeved sleepsuits.

@AdventureAhead I was getting bad acid reflux (touch wood its ok at the minute). I have started trying to eat earlier so it has more time to digest, and move around more after eating. Then I have a yogurt for a snack before bed (which is meant to help), and a spoon full of gaviscon. Also been told sleeping on the left stops it. Hope it eases for you soon, and you find a solution.

Next silly question. For those who aren't breastfeeding (I can't due to medication), which formula. I have always though Aptamil, don't know why. But then cow and gate is cheaper. Both available at my local shop. Just want to order my starter packs.

OP posts:
1990shopefulftm · 07/08/2020 12:03

@AdventureAhead could you get the tablet version of gaviscon instead?

1990shopefulftm · 07/08/2020 12:12

@DressingGown87 I found this website that compares lots of different formula brands and the make up of apatamil and cow and gate seems very similar so I m thinking we ll try cow and gate starter packs and get one pot of the powder for him and then can always switch if needs be.
infantmilkinfo.org/type-of-infant-milk/infant-formula/cows-and-goats-milk-based-infant-formula/

KitKatKit · 07/08/2020 12:21

@DressingGown87 @Mc3209 @AdventureAhead Okay that makes me feel better about the long sleeved vests! I do sleep with the window open most of the year so will need to adjust to the warmer bedroom!

@DressingGown87 Last night wasn't so bad with the heat, though I think tonight will be bad. I'm off work today, in a very thin kaftan and am not moving this afternoon at all! I'm very jealous of your 24 degree weather. I do normally love the heat but it's not as enjoyable when you're 7 months pregnant!

@AdventureAhead Acid reflux is the worst . I've been getting it daily and am managing by grazing throughout the day, smaller meals and staying upright for as long as possible. Gaviscon tablets are my best friend sadly. I second what was suggested earlier about sleeping on your left side. Apparently the way our digestive system is "plumbed", it's harder for the acid to creep it's way up if we sleep on the left than any other position.
Sending sympathies your way. It's shit!

roarfeckingroarr · 07/08/2020 15:05

@KitKatKit laundry is the enemy. I think you were productive 😀. Today I have done nothing.
