@CoBell Sorry to hear that you’re in some pain! I have similar aches but mine is solely on my back where my ribs are. They originally said it was down to his head resting on my ribs but he’s head down now and it’s still hurting. Like @roarfeckingroarr the only thing that seems to help is laying on my back 😫 the midwife did say put a hot water bottle on there and try to lay on the left hand side as much as possible to take some of the weight off which helps sometimes. I’d definitely mention it to your midwife next time you see her x

CoBell · 16/08/2020 14:53

Hi @FirstSurprise001, thanks for your reply Smile I do feel much better just talking to people who have had similar experiences so thank you for that. I will definitely mention it to my midwife when I next see them or I will phone them before then if I feel it is getting worse Smilex

Hi ladies. Boohoo currently have 75% off everything and I bought the 2 pack over the bump maternity leggings from them last week for £8 they are the most comfortable leggings ever! Just thought I'd share, they have some other very good maternity stuff too! Even better with the sale on.

1990shopefulftm · 16/08/2020 16:38

@SamK93 I love their leggings too. I've just ordered a nightie and a pyjama set for my hospital bag in the sale.

roarfeckingroarr · 16/08/2020 18:09

@1990shopefulftm I ordered a black nightie with white spots in their sale too. It's arrived and feels pretty nice!

Glooorb · 16/08/2020 18:12

Hey ladies! I've had my 28 weeks appointment last week and unfortunately I've been diagnosed with gestational diabetes and anaemia ☹️ I had planned 3 days off work this week and I was going to relax and stuff my face with delicious food, but I spent it getting really stressed because I've no idea what foods I can eat and my finger prick tests to monitor blood glucose were failing all the time due to my sweaty fingers from the heatwave. I've forgotten to take iron in all the stress so then I got really really breathless and had to call up the midwife helpline...

All in all, not a fun week. Sorry for the moan. Anyone in the same diabetic boat?

Clalou83 · 16/08/2020 18:12

Hi ladies

I've been quiet for a while but do occasionally check in and follow.

Warning Piles chat:

I have had piles on and off for years and was in the waiting list for an operation before COVID and getting pregnant.

They are now extremely painful, as you can imagine I've tried all sorts of the years the creams just don't work, I have an Aloe Vera plant and that does sooth alittle. My partner Emla cream and we looked and you can use a numbing cream mixed with some hemeroid cream, that worked alittle but again not making smaller.

Not sure what else to do, I don't want to keep taking paracetamol as that's not treating the problem plus I don't enjoy taking while pregnant 🤰

I also exercise, drink lots of water and eat a balanced diet so stools are soft.

Any advice that has worked for anyone personally? Would be greatly appreciated.

Glooorb · 16/08/2020 18:55

@Clalou83 oh I'm so sorry! I hate piles - they are the worst. I've had them on and off as well, and so I can understand your frustration and pain. I'm afraid I don't have many other tips aside all the things you have mentioned - creams mostly worked for me, and patience (which is what I don't have and I always get so frustrated when the piles don't go away until a few days later).

I'm sure you know all about keeping it clean and dry, washed often etc. I've heard mixed things about sitz baths but I've never tried that myself.

Do you think it's constipation causing the piles, or pressure from the baby? If it's constipation, try massaging the perineum? I find that makes it easier to poop 💩

SamK93 · 16/08/2020 19:23

Hi ladies, just wanted your thoughts. We use Surf or Daz usually for washing clothes, but from birth up until the age of about 1/2 with my other two I used fairy non bio washing powder just for their baby stuff. I've always been a washing powder kind of girl but as I was just looking at some fairy non bio to online to see where I would get more for my money I noticed the liquid too. I've never used the washing up liquid for clothes. What do you ladies use or plan on using?

1990shopefulftm · 16/08/2020 19:26

@SamK93 we ve got fairy non bio pods because we both have exczema (fortunately I found the cause for mine but DH doesn't get much of a break from it) so we re pretty certain baby will have it too so want something kinder for skin.

Clalou83 · 16/08/2020 19:28

@Glooorb maybe constipation I've had since I was sixteen but in the last few years they heave just got bigger and permanent lay on the outside.
Yeah the sits bath is the only thing I haven't tried

SamK93 · 16/08/2020 19:31

@1990shopefulftm are the pods good on tough stains etc? Sick and poop I'm referring too as I know poop on baby vests and sleepsuits is the worst 😂 I've never had a problem with fair non bio washing powder but just wondered about the liquid or pods x

1990shopefulftm · 16/08/2020 19:42

@SamK93 this is my first baby so can't comment on bodily fluids but works well on food stains and I keep an Asda fabric stain remover in so plan to use a bit of that if needs be.

Glooorb · 16/08/2020 19:49

@Clalou83 does it help if you put cream on it, and then push it back in so it is a bit more "protected"? I hear pelvic floor exercises also help (though don't do it if the exercise "squeezes" on the piles themselves).

Glooorb · 16/08/2020 19:55

@SamK93 I use fairy liquid non-bio for years. It advertises that it's ok for sensitive skin so I've sort of taken that at face value... both my husband and I have no adverse reaction to the washing. If the baby reacts to it we will for sure switch. I hear Ecover is gentle?

SamK93 · 16/08/2020 20:04

@Glooorb that's good to know, I've always use fairy non bio for the children when they were younger from birth due to it being good for sensitive skin and never had any problems with it, just never tried the liquid, I might give it a go then.

Clalou83 · 16/08/2020 21:43

@Glooorb I used to push it back in but it's too swollen for that now, there's 3 separate ones. I tried it once it felt worse. Thanks though. Guna buy a sits bath and cushion so I don't have to sit in it. Many thanks 🙏

roarfeckingroarr · 16/08/2020 21:50

@Clalou83 I've never had them and I'm eating a huge amount of fruit every day to try to avoid them. Sounds bloody painful, sorry you're going through it! Pregnancy is not a glamorous time!

Applesandlemons · 16/08/2020 22:12

I’m due first baby in October so can’t advise on how tough on baby stains the non-bio liquid is but I have used it for a long time due to sensitive skin and have found it to be pretty good. The liquid is also a lot more economical and seems to give a better all over result than the capsules (but that is just my opinion) Smile

Mc3209 · 16/08/2020 23:13

@Glooorb I am sorry you've got the whole GD malarky, at least it's picked up and can be managed now. Did the midwife go through the diet with you? There are also support groups out there with good dietary advice (can't find the links now, sorry about that).
I am still waiting for my results from 28 week appointment. Let's see what happens.

SamK93 · 17/08/2020 00:01

Thanks @Applesandlemons I was reading there's quite a lot more benefits using the liquid rather than a powder i.e less washing machine issues so thank you.

Chl00 · 17/08/2020 08:54

Hi has anyone on here experienced braxton Hicks yet? On a couple occasions this week I thought I had a couple but I’m a FTM so thought I’d see if any of you have had them in your current pregnancy yet..👀

FirstSurprise001 · 17/08/2020 09:52

Sorry to add one more question to the mix this morning (we’re a talkative bunch on here aren’t we 😂). But just out of interest, how often are you all seeing your midwife? I think I’ve worked out that I saw her at 26ish weeks, 28 and then this week when I’ll be 31 weeks. So roughly every 2/3 weeks. I’m working from home at the moment and mentioned I wouldn’t be in a (pointless) team meeting on Friday morning and had 2 of my bosses say that all of these appointments seem out of the ordinary especially given I’ve not got any complications.

Almost insinuating that I’m making them up and when I said I have no idea what’s normal, I’m just going off when I’m being asked to be seen was told they’ve ‘had 7 pregnant people in the last 2 years and no one has had as many appointments as this’.

The accusation and judgement has really p**d me off!

AdventureAhead · 17/08/2020 10:06

@clalou83 - sorry you're in so much discomfort and pain! I haven't experienced piles so don't have any advice I'm afraid, only sympathy because they sound awful.

Between us we seem to be having a myriad of (often unwelcome) pregnancy symptoms at the moment!

I've got my own bizarre one to add to the list, baby seems to be on the move ^constantly^. On Friday it literally didn't stop wriggling, kicking, punching and turning for more than 15 minutes at a time in 14 hours. Still very very active over the weekend and this morning. Whilst I am grateful to be able to feel it, many of its movements make me feel sick (assume it's kicking my insides) and it's interrupting my sleep so I feel exhausted.

All the reading I've done says it's not a cause for concern but I'm curious to know if anyone else is experiencing the same?! It's exhausting!

AdventureAhead · 17/08/2020 10:09

@firstsurprise001 That would wind me up too! There is a useful summary of the NHS midwife appointments you should be receiving here www.nhs.uk/conditions/pregnancy-and-baby/antenatal-appointment-schedule/
Maybe you can share that with your boss? I am pretty sure that employers are legally obliged to allow reasonable time off for prenatal appointments.
