Morning all! Getting a bit nervous about scan tomorrow now. Although I had a good think about it last night and realised that a problem wouldn't make me feel any differently about this baby, I still can't help but worry. I mean, what if they found something really serious? Am I being overly paranoid?

I'm also a little miffed as we have MIL coming with us to the scan. My mum came to the 12 week one so dp invited his mum to this one. We'd already decided to take the children but now I'm worried that the sonographer will get stroppy about over crowding. I would also have liked a chance for me, dp and the children to come to terms with any problems and the knowledge of the boy/girl question alone first before sharing with others. I know that if I said so then she wouldn't come and she wouldn't be cross with me, but I don't want to say that cos I think it must be lovely for ladies of that generation to have a chance to see a baby (especially a grandchild) on ultrasound.

gingercat12 · 12/11/2007 12:00

LovelyLou We are all paranoid up to a point, so you are in the right place here. Probably more so before appointments, and less so afterwards. I'll also have a MW appointment this week, so started to look for strange symptoms. But really LO is so playful, and now really "communicates" with us on his own level (24-week, one of my mental milestones).

Went to a so-called 'Musical Bumps' evening in the Sage Gateshead last week. LO thought it was a bit weird, he did not move at all, just intently listened I think. It consisted of 1-hour active birth chat and exercises, 45-minute singing lullaby and 15-minute chat over cup of tea with other pregnant ladies. I quite enjoyed it though.

Wish you all a very good and quiet weekend!

gingercat12 · 12/11/2007 12:00

Or week. I must already be waiting for the weekend.

spugs · 12/11/2007 13:37

ginger - how did you hear abu give me about musical bumps thing? if you hear about anymore would you give me a shout please. im in sunderland and would love to find something to do where i could meet other mums/mums to be.

goingfor3 · 12/11/2007 14:38

Lovelylou, I'm super paranoid and have settled with the fact I will be until baby is screaming in my arms! It's very natural after loosing a baby to feel like that, I hope so or I am going crazy!

feedmenow - Fingers crossed for the scan. I'm sure you'll come out smiling! DP invited his mother along to one of my scans but she is the last person I want with me if something is wrong (I would rather be alone). As I'm having a few I can keep making excuses I hope.

gingercat12 · 12/11/2007 14:42

Spugs It is on at 6 pm to 8 pm every Thursday for another 5 weeks. It is not a course, so I think you can just turn up and pay. Although most people seemed to have phoned the Sage in advance to book a place. I booked for the whole 6 weeks.

I'll try to copy in the link (am hopeless) link

WinkyGirl · 12/11/2007 15:16

Sorry, just catching up and wanted to say congrats to Spugs on finding out you are having a girl. Good luck with the rest of the decorating.

Bouncingturtle · 12/11/2007 15:36

Feedmenow - the sonographer may very well ask everyone to wait outside why they do the initial scan and check measurements etc. If they don't I would ask your mil & kids to wait outside first and then bring them in once you are satisfied everything is okay.
If it is not a big room, chances are they will have to take turns anyway!

feedmenow · 12/11/2007 16:36

Thats what I was thinking Bouncing! Even with the 12 week scan, dp and I (obviously!!) went in and my mum stayed outside, then when the important stuff was done she came in just for a quick peek!

spugs · 12/11/2007 17:34

thanks ginger cat

positive · 13/11/2007 09:30

hi
hope everyone is keeping well.

lovelylou,
agree with what others have said - we've all had our worries. I've found it easier to give myself 'milestones'and have used my scans for this, an 8 wk scan at the epc, still worried until we had the 12wk scan. our 20 wk scan is next week - although ive had 2 scans since my 12wk scan - i choose to have triple test done and had extra scans as a result which we were not expecting but great to see lo.
its made it easier for me to 'break up' the pg like this. I have to admit i still worry about buying things yet and want to wait until the new year but dh wants to get things now!

hope all goes well and i know hard it is but
good vibes and positive thoughts x

MerlinsBeard · 13/11/2007 10:05

hello!

Haven't been in for a while  to the newbies

i have to say that the first 12 weeks drag soooo much, then the next slog is until you can feel it move and then the next scan. I am doing ok at the mo(well today!) am 22 weeks now, having regular proper movements that aren't cushion but my stupid in-the-wrong-place placenta.

there is faaaar too much to catch up on, was looking for news on Glimmer but can see there isn't any yet.

Feedmenow, good luck for tomorrow

mcchesers · 13/11/2007 10:26

Danger self indulgent moaning alert

I'm feeling like a moany cow today. These symptoms are sneaking up on me (.)(.) just a bit sore lately and still don't feel sick. Considering my mc was a blighted ovum, the likelihood of that happening again is slim. So why can I not relax? I've read about women who have been preg after mc and had NO symptoms at all. So why can I not relax?!

I've got swollen lymph nodes so going to the docs to see if I have a urinary infection. Somethin' ain't right anyway...and with the all important early scan at the end of the month I want to try and give this bean my best shot. I've been eating and getting 30 minutes of exercise a day. neeed to relaaaaax.

end of moan

Bouncingturtle · 13/11/2007 10:41

McChesers - you moan away, it is only natural to feel anxious. Hope you go on ok at the docs and it's nothing too serious - let us know how you get on.

EllieG · 13/11/2007 11:04

Moaning is fine mcc - we're all here for you. Am bit like that myself today - my hips are so hurty after a walk yesterday - I know is not uncommon as ligaments getting stretchy, but is making me a bit sad.

mcchesers · 13/11/2007 12:20

Ok, after much deliberation, I've got my early scan booked for the 28th. They were really nice on the phone, but yeah am a big sweaty palmed mess. Eeek! I'll be thinking of all you girls when I go.

Bouncingturtle · 13/11/2007 12:38

Great news, mcchesers, it can be difficult to get early scans as some hospitals are deeply unsympathetic.

feedmenow · 13/11/2007 13:22

McC, how many weeks will you be on 28th?

I had my 22 weeks scan this morning. Fell very relieved now it is done. Was there for ages as baby was extremely uncvo-operative position wise and not only did I have to go for a wander and a drink for 20 mins, they also had to leave me lying on my side jiggling around for 5 mins to try and move it into a better position. All to no avail! Anyway, they were a little anxious as they couldn't see the position of the heart properly. The anatomy of the heart appeared fine, but they weren't sure on the position, and in the end decided that it was the baby's position that was making the position of the heart awkward to judge! All in all we were there for an hour and a half!

Am very surprised to have been told that it looks like a girl! She wasn't sure to beging with, but when I asked at the end she said that although no guarantees, she is pretty sure because they looked that way a few times and didn't see anything!

The children were both with us - dd is thrilled it's a girl. Ds burst into tears and is really upset cos he wanted a brother to play football with!

MIL was also there (and the lovely sonographer let everyone in together!). She is thrilled as her other son has 3 sons and although we have a dd and a ds, my dd is from a previous relationship. So in other words, this is their first biological grandaughter. She is excited at the prospect of buying pretty clothes!!

MrsMcJnr · 13/11/2007 14:41

Hey ladies sorry it's been a while, been hectic. Will now catch up but really hoping everyone is healthy and well x

EllieG · 13/11/2007 14:54

Hello MrsMc! Nice to hear all well x

Feedmenow - good news on scan, glad all is healthy and well with LO

Mcchesers - is nice to have early scan. I had one, really helped set my mind at rest (at least for few mins!). I think is so important to get that extra reassurance when PG after MC as is worrying. We'll all be thinking of you x

MrsMcJnr · 13/11/2007 15:32

Cece ? are you ok hon?

Goingfor3 ? sending huge hugs, I hope you are feeling better now. I think people find it really hard to know what to say after you lose a baby, some pretend it never happened and others go to the other extreme like your DP?s parents seem to have done.

Janus ? I can?t believe your MIL said that to you after your MC, its hard enough not to take the blame yourself anyway isn?t it? my own mother told me ?it was for the best? and told everyone who?d listen that I?d lost my baby because DH had had a back op in the previous November and had been on strong drugs (we conceived at the end of December ) why can?t people just think?! eBay has been fab I?ve had some great bargains recently! Great news about your scan what a lovely relief!!

Bouncing ? yeah less than a week left for you at work ? I leave 5 weeks on Friday that?s really interesting about Lightspeed, must look into that!!

Feedmenow no one ever answered me on that one! I am definitely going for the nest but think I?ll pass on the sensor mat, I think it will make me too paranoid and that I should just get a normal monitor. How are you getting on with your purchases? did you know there is a cute mobile for the nest? only £13 too. Lovely news about your scan congratulations!!!

Uki wow 3 months so glad all is well, he sounds gorgeous that was some baptism! I was at one of Sunday but thankfully it only lasted 30 mins!I?ve reset to the old way too

Wow! I can?t believe how far up the list I have moved my last real life friend due before me had her baby yesterday can?t believe I am next!!

Glimmer that?s amazing that you are still working and cycling! Isn?t today your due date? I?m getting exhausted and I have 9 weeks!!

Kasha ? sending you positive vibes

Lovelylou ? huge hugs, it will get easier, I promise

Spugs ? sounds very busy at your house

Gingercat ? Musical Bumps sounds really interesting!

Hey Positive

Hello EllieG don?t get too down about the pains, I was in agony 8 weeks ago and now the pain?s gone ? odd but true

MOM ? the time will race by now! I can?t believe I am 31 weeks seems like yesterday I was 22!

McChesers ? be kind to yourself hon, worrying will run you down, you?ll be fine focus on 28th

makecakesnotwar · 13/11/2007 15:37

MrsMcJnr good to hear from you. My sil really put me off the sensor mats when she told me about one of her frineds. The mat went off when the baby was sleeping so the parents rushed him to hosptial despite him being fine. As a precautionary measure the hosptial sent him home wired up to a continous heart montitor for 6 months! There was nothing wrong with him and the mat just caused unnnesary problems!

I have my dr's appointment tommorow, hopefully he won't cancel like last time. WOuld be great to see the baby too but doubt that will happen but I have my 12 well nearly 13 week scan next week so I can't complain. I'm sure I've already felt the baby moving around, it feels like there is a very fizzy cup of coke in my uterus like tiny little bubbles popping.
