Early Oct Babies Part 6
Spark27 · 17/06/2020 20:22

Hey ladies, I'm feeling so tired and lazy at the moment. Been pretty busy today with DD as DH has had lots of work stuff to do. Was worried I hadn't felt much movement all day. Had the odd bit here and there, but not as much as before. Just had pizza for dinner and now settled down on the sofa and baby is kicking off. Some quite uncomfortable wriggles. I think she must have got herself in a different position earlier, and I was probably too busy with DD to feel her. Massively reassured now.

I didnt get any BP or urine tests at either of my scans. Didnt in my last pregnancy either. I did get to see my mw at 16w, but she didnt do my BP then I dont think. Might ring up tomorrow to see if I can get my 28w appt booked in for 3w time.

I'm very excited for tomorrow. DD will be in nursery and DH has to go out to do some errands, and see a colleague who just got back from a 6 month deployment (after quarantine and socially distanced) so I should get about 3 hours at home ON MY OWN! So excited.

Spark27 · 17/06/2020 20:22

I got my pregnancy ball out the other week. DD has stolen it. She finds it hilarious to play with. Great

Quiffy · 18/06/2020 08:48

@Zaalfruit that's really terrible on work, what's the point in shifting you with so little time left? just causing unneeded stress. Same with holidays for both you and @BntTowers. Most employers are trying to force people to take holidays right now - not be dragging their heels over a few simple days.

I decided since mine is asking for something impossible, I'm just blagging it. I've sent them back done but how I usually do them and see if they notice. Fingers crossed. At least today's work is a different project, which is nice and easy.

@LexiM Mine gets his initial 2 weeks paternity and he's saved up holidays. Think his plan is 2-3weeks when baby gets here (it's his busy season so might not work out) and then at least two weeks at Christmas. He's also considering some shared parental leave, his work gives him 6 weeks at full pay over first year, so he's thinking of taking 4 weeks MA off me.

@Bnttowers those sleepsuits are gorgeous - love the colours

@Spark27 enjoy your time alone!

otterbaby · 18/06/2020 09:19

@LexiM my husband is taking 2 weeks paternity with another 2 weeks of holiday added on, then has 2 more weeks booked in over Christmas.

@Spark27 it's crazy how they're actually big enough now to get into uncomfortable positions! Only 4 more months of that Grin

Spark27 · 18/06/2020 09:26

@LexiM we're hoping for the same thing. 2 weeks paternity and then 2 weeks leave, and another 2 weeks at xmas. But we might have to play the additional 2 weeks by ear. If hes not allowed back in between now and the end of paternity he said he might feel cheeky taking another 2 straight away. In his words 'we'll see if it's just a straight forward birth'. JUST. I'm still going to be knackered and sore for a while. Damn men.

Those Sleepsuits are gorgeous.

Just found out my line manager is leaving in 4 weeks. Bit annoying as shes actually really easy going. Worried I'm not going to meet my new boss until Oct 2021 and they'll know nothing about me/think I'm useless as I'll have baby brain for a while. Oh well.

BntTowers · 18/06/2020 09:58

@LexiM we are doing similar, 2 week paternity leave, 2 weeks in November and 2 weeks over Christmas (with the exception of him being on call for a couple of days).

I'm so tired today, these antihistamines are making me drowsy, does mean I got a fairly good nights sleep, only up a couple of times. I've had about 4 really good kicks this morning so even though it seems to be a little less I can still feel baby moving around.

MrsD1990 · 18/06/2020 10:21

Love the sleep suits! Love the bright colours!! I just bought 9 new born sleep suits - how many do people think I'll need? And while they're new born is anyone buying them clothes that aren't sleep suits? Was thinking of getting some other cute clothes but not sure realistically how much they'll get worn before I need to start putting them in bigger clothes... Me and my husband are tall and both grew v quickly as babies (I look 1 when I was 3 months!) And this baby has been growing fast so far so think he might be quite a big baby!! Would be interested to know what others are planning to do... First time mum here!!

Spark27 · 18/06/2020 10:36

@MrsD1990 I'm planning on keeping baby in vests, Sleepsuits, and vests and leggings for as long as possible. When I'm going to be changing their nappy 10-12 times a day, and dealing with poo explosions I cannot be bothered with outfits. I had a few occasions where I just had to cut clothes off of DD cos there was so much poo.
I'm doing short sleeve vests under Sleepsuits (long sleeves under long sleeves turns into a faff) and then long sleeved vests with leggings (got some of the lovely thick ones with the pattern on the bum).

My cousin gave me loads of hand-me-down baby outfits when I had my DD. I soon realised why they were pristine. It's just too much faff.

But it is a personal choice. If you really want to get outfits, go for it. They are really cute. I'd just recommend you limit the fiddly buttons xx

Spark27 · 18/06/2020 10:37

Oh, and I'd recommend not washing them all but keeping some in the packaging with receipts. Then you can easily return if not needed

Treaclepie19 · 18/06/2020 10:59

Vests and sleepsuits here too. With our ds he was so refluxy that even with muslins and bibs I was changing him constantly so the easier the better.

MummyBearBoo · 18/06/2020 12:53

Little romper suits are quite good coz they button up like sleep suits -I love that the vests have the extra bit of fabric round the colour so you can take them down rather than lifting them over the head when you get a poo explosion!!
But yeah I'll mainly be using sleep suits I really want to get a little sister vest and big sister T-shirt I have seen some on Etsy but had anyone seen any they could recommend?
My pink birthing ball cane today might sit on it this evening which is when my back is worse! Xx

bluemoon2468 · 18/06/2020 14:31

We're doing a similar thing in terms of paternity leave - 2 weeks PL then 2 weeks annual leave immediately after giving him the first 4 weeks off after the baby's born. Then he's going to take every Monday off until Christmas, meaning that I'm only having to do 4 day weeks alone with the baby throughout November and December. Then about 10 days off at Christmas, and then we've already booked a week in Center Parcs for January and two weeks in Lanzarote in April 😆

LexiM · 18/06/2020 14:54

Really good to hear what everyone’s doing. My husband gets 4 weeks full paid paternity we realised yesterday which is nice. He is then going to do something similar to you @bluemoon2468 and use some holiday to take an extra day off a week. We are thinking probably Wednesday so I only have two days without him at a time until the new year. He should then have some days extra to play with around Christmas too.

We are only buying vests and sleepsuits. I’ve read lots of people say outfits are a faff, although I expect some people will buy as gifts and my Mum has knitted a grey two piece. We aren’t really buying much newborn stuff. I will be mad if the baby can never wear anything because it’s too big and my friend is giving us her baby boys clothes which are lovely and include some smaller pieces. We will just get a couple of special outfits for when he’s born.

I feel limited to what I can buy now anyway as the shops do lots of lighter weight and summery things at the moment. I have to keep reminding myself it won’t be shorts and T-shirt weather come October!

LostinAusten2 · 18/06/2020 15:33

Hey folks, really helpful hearing about the leave plans. Feel a bit outrageous on this one but have agreed with the husband we’ll do 6 months off each, overlapping for the first 3 months. I have a bee in my bonnet about doing this thing 50/50, though think pregnancy has been a smidge more work for me than him 😄

MrsD1990 · 18/06/2020 16:14

Thanks everyone for replies about clothes. I think sleep suits are the way to go then and maybe I'll buy some cute outfits for when he's older. Really stupid question from me now (sorry) by vests do you all mean short sleeved onesies that button near the nappy? So they don't have trouser bits either? That's what comes up when I Google baby vests so just want to make sure! When I read vests I think of vests like the ones we would wear, which is why I'm asking. Sorry again for the stupid question!!

otterbaby · 18/06/2020 16:19

@MrsD1990 yeah that's right 🙂 think they're also referred to as body suits sometimes!

Treacle81 · 18/06/2020 16:40

Hi girls! Had my first McDonalds and it was cold 🤨 still scoffed it though lol. I’ve got short sleeved bodysuits and sleepsuits and some daytime rompers (which I’ll add socks) for up to 3 months and also long sleeve body suits and joggers. I’ll not start with other clothes till 3 months +. @Spark27 hope you enjoyed ME time! @BntTowers beautiful sleep suits! Think my next purchase will be a ball! Oh I’ve got mw tomorrow if any of you want me to ask her anything let me know x

blankiesandunicorns · 18/06/2020 18:15

@Treacle81 my McDonald's the other day was cold too, so annoyed!

I remember going through so many babygros and vests with my first, could get through 5 a day!

MrsD1990 · 18/06/2020 18:48

@otterbaby thank you!! That makes sense, I better get some of those too!!

Indigogirl88 · 18/06/2020 19:00

Yeah long sleeve leg and arm suits and also some vests, I've got a couple of outfits but thats just for christmas. Glad we are all on the same page! I've had a downer of a day had some bad news from a friend (not health related, family related) and it's very close to home so I feel sad for her and being in such a similar position to me. Work has been hectic as well and everyone has been debbie downers. I've got myself some chocolate tonight though yummy!

Had some nice amount of movement just now which has cheered me up Grin

Spark27 · 18/06/2020 19:25

Sorry to hear about the bad news @Indigogirl88. Definitely take some time for yourself and to enjoy your chocolate.

I sent DH to tescos and told him I wanted treats and fun stuff. He came back with triple choc shortbread, a white choc and strawberry cake, lilt (been craving it for some reason) and tulips. I suppose I'll keep him today Grin

After a quiet day yesterday I've been having loads of movement today. Not sure if it's more that I've had the time to feel it. Or baby is just messing around already

Zaalfruit · 18/06/2020 19:26

@BntTowers those outfits are so Nice , love the colours baby clothes at the early stages I find so dull. I have no motivation currently to buy anything however as I am determined to mix feed I brought a tommie tippie prep machine , some muslin clothes and a few white bibs.

I had my 25 week appointment today - apparently I’m low on iron so on iron tablets now and then back for my 28 week growth in 3 weeks time along side my gtt.

And then on the 26th of June I have a telephone call with the midwife.

How is everyone ? I ate so much food today. I had pizza for lunch with wedges .

@Treacle81 ooh I fancy McDonald’s did you get it delivered? In terms of baby clothes I feel like October isn’t that cold - but dh was like the baby’s ill get cold . I read that babies get over heated quickly.

@Indigogirl88 I hope everything is alright with your friend - deffo eat some chocolate that makes everything better and it’s nice that baby is being co operative .

@blankiesandunicorns omg really - my plans was to buy 6 new born and then 8 0-3 baby grows am I vastly underestimating it . Everyone keeps saying don’t buy to much .. aah confused !!

Also is it really bad that I want to bring the baby home dressed as a pumpkin or something Autumn related. Dh wants her to come home in a football grow .

Zaalfruit · 18/06/2020 19:30

@Treacle81 sorry meant will not I’ll .

Also forgot to ask please can you check with your midwife when to start kick counts my midwife today said I need to start But I feel like baby has no pattern . She said I need to establish a pattern by keeping a diary and if the baby doesn’t follow it - drink water , sprite or 7up and then wait 30 mins of no different call fetal unit and come in .

FourPlasticRings · 18/06/2020 20:04

YY to the sleep suits. That's literally all this kid will be wearing until he/she is ready to crawl!

You can take vests off by pulling them down instead of up in the event of poonami to save the scissor work, but I did bin a few once they were off.
