@Zaalfruit That is beyond ridiculous! A happy mum and fed baby is surely best for everyone? Like you say, BF might put a lot of strain esp with underactive thyroid and family history. Better to go in feeling realistic and knowing it might not work.

I have a chronic pain condition that, when I've researched, says it will be hard to BF as the stress and intensity is likely to cause pain flares and more fatigue than normal. Esp when it's all on me without Dh or family easily being able to take over feeds. I also won't be able to go back on my painkillers for longer. Yet I have major guilts about it.

LexiM · 09/07/2020 17:51

@Zaalfruit Sorry to hear about the midwife, although I think they should promote breast feeding and give support and advice where relevant i dont think they should lecture you or make you feel bad about a decision you've made, especially for mental health reasons, that's awful.

Does everyone know the percentile their baby is because they've had an appointment and been measured by the midwife? I dont yet but guess at my 28 week appointment I will find out. Wasnt sure if you were doing some measuring at home to work it out?!

I'm just getting some comfy but nice babygrows for our baby when he is born/going home. We have one we plan to use for one of those occasions which my mum got from Joules. I've heard proper outfits can be a faff plus I want him to be really comfortable. Funny to think they aren't used to wearing clothes!

I am feeling so tired today. I didn't have a great night sleep, I couldn't really pinpoint it but I generally felt uncomfortable. I really could go to bed right now. Bet I will still be awake come midnight as I always end up staying up way later when I try to resist going to bed too early!

Treacle81 · 09/07/2020 18:12

Yea pay no attention @Zaalfruit they are always going to recommend a mother bf’s, I’ll try but it’ll come down to what’s best for baby and myself. @Indigogirl88 measure from top of public bone to where your bump ends. I measured 29 cm and I’ll be 28 weeks on Mon so about right xx

Spark27 · 09/07/2020 18:19

@Zaalfruit I'd just ignore the mw. They have to promote bf, but a fed baby and a happy mum is the best thing. They cant bully you into doing anything you dont want to do, and so many people ff that it's not unusual at all. With my first we couldn't get the latch so I express bf for 10/12 weeks (cant remember) and then switched to formula. And they happily gave her formula in SCBU to get her feeding at the beginning xx

@LexiM I only know the centile as I went for my 28w mw appt today. That's when they start measuring. It's all very subjective though and measurements can vary from mw to mw. I think the measurement goes from your pubic bone to the top of your....fundus? But have no idea how they determine that. All mw measurements and scan measurements can be very subjective

otterbaby · 09/07/2020 20:45

@LexiM my growth chart in my blue folder has a little tutorial on how to accurately measure! I haven't done it myself either, my midwife did it last week when I was 26+3 and I was bang on 26cm so I'm basically in the 50th centile at the minute 🙂

NWnature · 09/07/2020 21:14

@Zaalfruit ugh so sorry you had that response from the midwife!

@LexiM yep mine was from my chart in my notes and the midwife measured at my most recent appointment when I was 26+3 and I was in the 90th percentile!!!

MummyBearBoo · 09/07/2020 22:02

@Zaalfruit A fed baby is a happy baby regardless where food cobra from!

It might not be as difficult as you think -I have a form of muscular dystrophy which causes extreme fatigue but I bf exclusivity for 6 months with DD and I didn't find it too tiring -but it depends a lot on the baby I think! My DD seemed to take to it really well but not all babies do.

Plus you have to ignore some of what heajrh visitors say a bit -they say if it hurts you're doing it wrong (my hw days this was a l I ad if rubbish anyway) -it hurt for about a week everyone who checked said we had a perfect hatch and my DD was putting lots of weight in so we are doing fine but they stress you out by saying you're doing it wrong!

At the end of the day baby's pick up on stress if bf is stressing you out I'm sure the baby would be happier being combi or bottle fed with a happy mummy! Xx

BntTowers · 09/07/2020 22:52

I'm often exhausted during the day and then when it's time to sleep I'm wide awake until about midnight. It does mean that I get a few hours of focusing on feeling baby move.

I've not been measured yet, but I think I'm my green book there's a diagram on how to do so. I don't have my 28 week appointment until I'm 29 weeks along, which isnt until the end of July so I've got a bit to wait.

I'm looking forward to the better weather this weekend, hopefully it means I can see my mum and a friend maybe. Just a day of work to get through first.

@Zaalfruit ignore the midwife, you do whatever is best for you and your baby. I hate reading what they've written down sometimes.

Indigogirl88 · 09/07/2020 23:36

@spark27 eeek I'm 31cm (didn't have a flat stomach to start but not far off) wonder what they say when I go on Tuesday!?

@bnttowers same awake for hours even though I'm tired

I braved Aldi today, and I don't think I'm being too precious but honestly I found it so overwhelming. Nothing to do with the pandemic as ive been lots, but the stress of packing and heaving into the car its too much now, so I said to dp he has to come with me now. I shouldn't really be lifting heavy bags anyway!

BntTowers · 10/07/2020 08:44

I've been sat at my work desk for 30 minutes and I've already had enough. We've had a new system since November and trying to guide some colleagues through the most basic of things is frustrating for first thing on a Friday, plus my back is acting up already.

I might have to dig out a tape measure and see what I measure at tonight.

@Indigogirl88 no more heavy lifting sounds right, it's too much now. Although I did attempt to vacuum yesterday, didn't get very far.

MummyBearBoo · 10/07/2020 09:37

@BntTowers -I get that too feel really sleepy from 7pm but then I'm awake til about 11.30pm which is when baby starts moving and kicking like crazy til 2am then DD wakes me up at 6am so really not sleeping much!! Xx

LexiM · 10/07/2020 09:57

Might just have a little try with the measuring, just for interest. Obviously I will wait for the midwife for a proper one! From just looking at my bump I think it looks of average size compared to others I've seen although I know the measurements parent overly accurate for the actual size of the baby.

@BntTowers totally with you on going to sleep at night. I could almost fall asleep on the sofa but once comfy in bed I'm awake again. Work does sound very tedious, hope today goes fast for you.

@Indigogirl88 I am the same with shopping and heavy bags. I've always continued to do the shopping, generally going later in the evening when quieter but I've told DH he will have to come with me soon as I am completely wiped out by it and struggle to lift the bags without feeling like I'm stretching. Although I take a list I get so flustered and fed up half way round.

I seem to have come to a stop in recent weeks with baby prep. I've ordered one newborn sleeping bag and that feels like it's pretty much all I've done for a while. As I approach the third trimester I can feel my energy dropping, along with my Dad being ill I just haven't done much. That being said I think I have to allow myself to do that and its fine, I still have plenty of time I know deep down. I just get the odd day when I think "I need to get more organise again" and panic even though I'm probably 3/4 of the way there with everything. I was telling my mum how the baby wont have enough clothes until hes 3 months as I got most clothes in 3-6 months as was obsessed with the fact newborn would be too small and didn't want to waste money. Seems like I then missed 0-3 months haha. She was like you do know there are shops and I can shop once the baby is here too. And breathe!!

NWnature · 10/07/2020 10:19

@LexiM I am so in the same boat on shopping. Not doing anything else for now. I haven't got any nappies or anything like that. No sleeping bags either yet, can't get my head around what tog I need! Think I can leave it all much closer. The only essential thing I do need to do is pram at some point and the crib but again, I think I'll leave that til Sept time.

Totally understandable you have other stuff on your mind with your Dad. I agree with your mum - anything we end up needing in an emergency we will be able to get in a flash x

Spark27 · 10/07/2020 11:02

After a few good nights I was back to a terrible night. Woken at 0200 by the cat kicking his way into the room and climbing on me, and then baby kicking off. Felt a mixture of hungry and sick so bad a few biscuits. Then couldn't sleep again til 0600. Then slept in til 1030! Not sure what I'll do in these situations when DH goes back to work and DD isn't at nursery. I'm lucky with him WFH at the mo (although he makes such a mess I could kill him sometimes Grin)

Indigogirl88 · 10/07/2020 11:25

I think a lot of us us need a virtual hug today

I'm the same @lexiM got lots of 0-3 but hardly any newborn

But then again if I'm measuring big might hardly not need the newborn stuff!

Im about 3/4 of the way through as well

Work is frustrating me today as well, something big has happened and I feel so down and out about it

Going to go to Boots tomorrow for maternity bits to cheer me up a bit

Not felt baby girl so much today, I think I overdid it yesterday

Treacle81 · 10/07/2020 12:49

Afternoon girls! I don’t know if you guys are the same but cannot walk far outside without being so out of breath and constantly yawning! V embarrassing 😳 also getting these ‘pains’ more often and v uncomfortable at times! Sleep is terrible due to restless legs and baby likes to party on either side I lie on and is only quiet when on my back which I’m not to lie on. Got day off so I’m heading to see my sister then friends for dinner later 😀xx

BntTowers · 10/07/2020 14:59

@Treacle81 that sounds like a good day.

@LexiM I have mostly 0-3 months, only a few newborn and I think that's what I'm going to stick with. Like your mum has said I'll be sending someone out to get things if needed. It's bound to be more emotionally draining with your dad being ill. You will get organised in enough time, don't worry about it.

CharlieBalf · 10/07/2020 18:47

Hi all,
Any sewists out there? Been trying not to buy too much maternity gear and make a few things. Made this dress today and I think I'll live in it over the summer! Hubby has dubbed it the 'maternity tent' 😂🎪

Other than that, still really achy hips and pelvic regions and tired all the time. 28 week app on Tuesday, looking forward to hearing baby again and finding out how big they are 😊❤️

CharlieBalf · 10/07/2020 18:49

Opps 😂

Early Oct Babies Part 6
BettyBotter1 · 10/07/2020 19:05

@CharlieBalf wow! That looks great and really pretty colour. I only sew if it's unavoidable haha like I finally took up some curtains that were too long. I like to knit and crochet tho. Have made a baby blanket and am making a mobile for over the crib.

CharlieBalf · 10/07/2020 19:42

@BettyBotter1 ooo you're so good making a blanket and a mobile. I brought one off etsy and I knew I could make it but... I'm too lazy 😂 I'm not very good at making things that aren't for myself but I want to try some baby rompers maybe.

Zaalfruit · 11/07/2020 07:03

Thanks everyone about breast feeding!

@CharlieBalf you look so cute in the pink .
I’m wearing all my normal clothes I just look fat in them but I really don’t want to buy any thing. I did buy leggings from ASOS so comfy.

How do you guys know how to sew I’m clueless. I once had to out a button in hardest thing in my life getting the string on the needle .

I have brought too many vests for 0-3 months 12 vests I dunno how that happened. And then 5 sleep suits- and some how ended up with 13 bibs - the bibs thing is me I can’t help buying them they are so cute and cheap . My best friend is due in October to but with a boy might give her some. The triangle bibs are so cute !

If anyone see any nice sleep suits with lemons please let me know - I just love yellow and I want one with lemons - I got 1 from the next sale an apple dress 6-9 months.

For nappies what size and brand is everyone buying?

otterbaby · 11/07/2020 08:30

@Zaalfruit mamas and papas has some sleepsuits with lemons on! We nearly bought them but ended up with a lemon swaddle instead.

We're using Kit & Kin nappies. We have 120 size 1 to start with and I think we'll buy maybe 80 of size 2 just in case she moves into the next size quickly. I've also bought a handful of reusable as I would really like to try them but I just can't commit to buying a full stash of them in case I can't be bothered with the faff 😬

Spark27 · 11/07/2020 08:42

@Zaalfruit, depending on size of baby that sounds like a good number of vests. I think I've got about 12 of each short sleeved vests and Sleepsuits in a mixture of newborn/up to 1 month and also 0-3 months. I've kept some in the packaging so they are easier to return if I dont need, but I'm expecting to go through them easily.
I'm sticking with Aldi and Tesco nappies at the moment as these are the shops easiest for me to get to. I have 3 packs of Aldi size 1 nappies so far. I'll probably get a couple more of those from Tescos so I have about 100-120 and two different brands, just incase. Then get some size 2's in.

Hoping to stick to theses as the shops are close and they are cheap. Once DD was about 18 months and did bigger night time wee's we had to move to Pampers for the extra absorbency, but hoping to save the money when they go through 10+ nappies a day.

My 5year wedding anniversary today. Ordinarily we'd leave DD at the inlaws and go on a boozy mini break. This year its staying in and having a takeaway. Might treat myself to a tiny glass of white wine. Shock Shock

Anyone starting to feel a bit like nesting? Not doing loads yet, but wanting to make plans for classic nesting activity!

Quiffy · 11/07/2020 08:45

@BntTowers hope the weather stays nice so you can see your mum and friend - yay for no work weekend

@Indigogirl88 Aldi is so stressful, never been able to handle the packing for more than a few items never mind preggers, definitely take DP if you can. Sorry about work, hope you’re feeling a bit better ❤️

@LexiM there’s loads of time yet, you’ve got loads on your mind so take it easy.

@Treacle81 that sounded like a great way to spend a Friday off, hope you enjoyed!

@CharlieBalf love it, esp the colour 😻 I got a brother fs40 as a very early push/section present. Not been brave enough for clothes yet but I’ve started my first bib.

@BettyBotter1 I’m impressed by anyone that can do both knitting and crochet. I crochet a lot but knitting befuddles me. I want to make a mobile but not sure whether to go sewing or crochet.

@Zaalfruit I was researching nappies and from what I can see it really depends on the baby so to try a few. Lots of people say the Aldi ones (and their formula too) is amazing but I hate going to Aldi, so I’ve bought in some Tesco size 1 ones as we shop there most - hopefully he likes them!

DH and I went to a private 4D scan last night. Had an absolutely amazing experience. Got to see our boy really clearly and he was scowling and yawning away. She gave us loads of photos and clips on the usb we bought so got to share with grandparents. DH was bubbling away and he says he feels so much closer to baby now, would really recommend to anyone. She did measurements and thinks he’s 3.4lbs, I was 27+4 yesterday so she says he’s the very top percentile and recommend at GD test and growth scans. Passed the fasting GD test so will say to midwife next week at my appointment. My lady bits are scared 😅
