@AutumnBabyWinterMummy after completing the PBC digital pack I'm so excited about the birth too! It's taken away every fear I had! My sister said to me yesterday "do you wish you could just click your fingers and it would be one after after you gave birth?" and I realised how sad it would make me to miss the birth and how much I'm looking forward to it!

bluemoon2468 · 08/07/2020 10:21

*one hour

AutumnBabyWinterMummy · 08/07/2020 10:49

@bluemoon2468 I know I'm the same!! I think just the excitement of preparing for it and going to the hospital id be sad to miss. I'm FTM though are you? Maybe it's ftm optimism! I've got like 9 mini picture frames round my house with those positive affirmations that I just hand wrote. DP doesn't think much of it he just makes a little joke every now and then but we have a gas man coming today so I'll have to go round hiding them all as I think he will think it's the mad house one says "women all over the world are birthing with you right now" 😂😂 x

LexiM · 08/07/2020 10:52

@bluemoon2468 I have also done the PBC digital pack and I'm feeling so calm about the birth and almost excited.

I'm also still reading the Positive Birth Book by Milli Hill- so far would really recommend it for overall advice on options whilst staying positive about making choices right for you. I understand it has a section on when baby is here too.

My SIL said to me the other day "oh my friend did the positive birth company and ended up having a c-section." I rolled my eyes at her - you can tell SIL doesnt understand it because it's not about the type of birth being set or the fact you wont get a c-section, it's about the mother feeling confident in decisions that are made and calm about it. Annoys me when people think it's all hippy dippy as its actually based on really basic science and how the body works.

I feel so grateful to be sleeping ok right now, sorry some of you aren't getting a good nights sleep. That being said because of my Dad despite Dad quite well I still feel exhausted all the time at the moment as my emotions are all over the place.

Anyone with hip/back issues that doesn't have a ball, I would still recommend this. Sorry I've probably gone on and on about it!! I didn't use mine for one night recently and was definitely more stiff the next day.

@Quiffy I am sure you will be a natural when baby is here, I feel the same because I have friends and family with babies that I spent a considerable amount of time around but realise I dont actually know much at all! I am doing some reading but trying not to go crazy with it as I feel it's easy to overthink things whilst there is no baby to experience/put into practice what you read. It must feel good that your DH has joined in with sorting the house. I go through phases where I'm obsessed with sorting things then dont bother for a while as I'm too tired. I've still got painting jobs outstanding which I need to finish.

LexiM · 08/07/2020 10:53

Its meant to say despite sleeping quite well! Doh!!

Treaclepie19 · 08/07/2020 12:01

I've bought the positive birth company digital pack so glad to hear it's good.

Im 27 weeks today and sore, the ball needs to be blown up!
I've been ordering bits for my hospital bag and can't believe its getting that close. Eeek 😁

Having a more positive morning after the awful mood I was in yesterday thankfully.

@AutumnBabyWinterMummy yep I'm a FTM too. I'm really lucky though in that my mum had 2 completely natural very positive water births, and my closest cousin has also had 2 completely natural births one of which was a homebirth, so I've always been surrounded by women who are very positive about birth and I haven't really been told many 'horror stories'.

@LexiM that is so true. I've tried to explain to people that hypnobirthing isn't just about natural birth, it's about having a positive birth experience no matter what happens and being fully informed so that you can make the right decisions when the time comes, rather than just doing what you're told. I think some of my friends and family think that if I have any interventions I'll have 'failed' at hypnobirthing and that couldn't be more wrong 🙈

Treacle81 · 08/07/2020 12:24

Isn’t it amazing how a book can change your way of thinking! Personally coming from a bad labour experience, i’m actually looking forward to this birth! I cannot believe I’m saying this, actually had bad anxiety at the thought of it a few weeks ago! Siobhan Miller is to thank for that! xx

AutumnBabyWinterMummy · 08/07/2020 12:32

@LexiM yes I totally agree. I really don't mind now what happens during birth even if have to have an unplanned caesarean as long as baby enters the world safely that's all that matters. And PBC has helped me with that.

I think I've stressed about almost everything else you can stress about during this pregnancy- money, my job, Mat leave, corona, what job to do after mat leave, doing the house up, buying baby stuff, my health, if I'm eating healthy enough for baby, if my stress has affected baby, family stuff but one thing I've remained stress free about is the labour!

@bluemoon2468 I'm also surrounded by on my mums side women who completely fortunately have always managed to get pregnant easy, and had generally complication free pregnancies and just nice births. So a bit like you I heard too many scary stories.

@Treacle81 that's great you no longer have anxiety over it xx

AutumnBabyWinterMummy · 08/07/2020 12:34

@bluemoon2468 I meant to say a bit like you I haven't heard too many scary stories

Quiffy · 08/07/2020 14:31

@Treacle81 @AutumnBabyWinterMummy @LexiM thanks guys! I think I’m just having a wobbly week from being tired. Ended up falling asleep at my laptop working so taking afternoon off to nap and chill out. And watch something non baby related 😅

AutumnBabyWinterMummy · 08/07/2020 14:44

@Quiffy sometimes that's exactly what you need a nice relaxing afternoon to rest and also sometimes need time off from not just thinking about baby!! I've been watching this bbc programme called the secrets she keeps it's really good totally takes your mind off everyday life! It is about a baby though lol but it's good x

Indigogirl88 · 08/07/2020 15:19

Loving all the second time mum tips it's making me feel much more at ease Grin

Must get on an order a ball and the hospital bag bits. That can be this weekends job I think! Eeek almost 3rd trimester ladies!

Zaalfruit · 08/07/2020 16:47

Hey everyone!! So many good tips - I need to buy the pbc book x

Treacle81 · 08/07/2020 17:00

God I can’t wait to hit 3rd trimester!!! xx

MummyBearBoo · 08/07/2020 17:32

I'm actually more terrified this time I think first time ignorance was bliss this time I know what's to come!!

With DD I d it didn't worry too much about being a Parent coz you'll never know how to be one until you are one and you learn on the job!
Xx

LexiM · 08/07/2020 19:13

@quiffy glad you took the afternoon off, hope you've had a relaxing time.

I dont really invite people i know to discuss my plans for birth if I can help it, as I dont want to have to justify why I've chosen to focus on positive/hypnobirthing or make me second guess my choices. Made easier I guess by the fact I dont really see many people 😂

I've started collecting random bits for my hospital bag. Got a really thin but very soft dressing gown from Sainsburys the other day. I've got a fair amount of maternity pads too, I feel I'm obsessed with having enough.

I also brought a hoodie 5 sizes bigger than my normal size to wear in the coming months, it's just so comfy!! Will probably wear it for years after too. Smile

BntTowers · 08/07/2020 21:15

@Quiffy still feeling the same today, looking forward to a day off tomorrow. Sounds like you needed some time off today. It's best to take what we can get at the moment.

@LexiM I picked up a dressing gown from Sainsbury's too last week, didn't want a big fluffy one so the in one I got is cotton I think so should be lighter.

I'm only part way through the PBC course at the moment, I am finding it useful. I've not really told anyone our birth plans yet, no body has asked. I feel like my SIL and MIL would be a bit too interested and want to know everything about it so going to avoid that for as long as possible.

MrsD1990 · 08/07/2020 21:17

I'm doing PBC too - me and husband try to watch an hour every weekend and we've learned lots doing it! I'm the same as everyone else - things might not go to plan but it's helpful to have breathing techniques and other tools to use to help keep calm and make decisions. Also the fact husband has been learning along with me and I don't have to explain to him what I'm learning is great so we've both learned lots about labour and due dates. Hoping to use the birthing centre when I go into labour.

Still need to sort out my hospital bag. I'll do it this weekend I reckon. MIL keeps sending me links to toys and cots etc which I know she's doing to be nice but I am trying to ignore them because they stress me out about how much I still need to buy. Luckily my mum's just leaving me be to decide whatever I want on baby stuff. It's weird I went from desperate to buy lots but convincing myself to wait because it was too early in my pregnancy. Now I'm putting it off because the thought of how much more there is to buy stresses me out. Am sure once I start buying and sorting things I'll get more into the spirit of it!

BettyBotter1 · 08/07/2020 22:32

@LexiM my lower back regularly feels mashed and painful, I've been offered a ball. What do you do on it to help things? Sit up straight? Bounce?

Re the bleeding gums, I've been getting that on and off too, but it's quite normal for me.

I've started throwing some bits into a hospital bag, just stuff that was already lying around the house so far, plus I bought a couple of black button front nighties. I need to buy a thin robe, or else maybe I'll just take a long cardi to save buying anything.

I've only heard really good things about PBC, I'm planning on doing the digital pack too. That book you mentioned @LexiM sounds good. I've just been googling every scenario I can think of and trying to think what questions I want to ask the midwife at future appointments. Will midwife have the time to patiently answer a bunch of questions? Plus watching lots of birth stories on YouTube. I am a control freak so the idea of not fully understanding any situation I am in or what the options are worries me.

MummyBearBoo · 08/07/2020 23:13

@BettyBotter1 -I bounce on birthing ball irs the only thing that help my back pain!

Just ordered another pair of maternity leggings from love leggings as the ones I currently have are now a bit tight on my tummy so I've ordered a bigger size!

LexiM · 08/07/2020 23:38

@BettyBotter1 definitely worth trying the ball. I do a mixture of sitting, bouncing up and down and kind of rolling my hips side to side to stretch them as they get stiff and painful. I also rock forward and push up slightly onto my feet and back down. Obviously all very gently no major workout!!

My ball is quite large and takes up quite a bit of space. When I go back to sitting on the sofa I'm forever pushing it out the way. I go on the ball on and off throughout the evening while watching tv and sometimes first thing in the morning if I feel I need it.

Is anyone having a coming home outfit for baby I really want one - feel like we will miss out on a lot already . No bounty pics for baby as well. Says in big words in the hospital. I wanted to do my own little photo of her . My mum has one of me from 30 years ago and for my sisters one we are in the pictures together I’m attempting to hold her at 10 months. ( don’t ask - my mum got pregnant straight away)

I wanted to dress her in a little corduroy - dress - might be a waste for one outfit dh said I’m crazy .

@Zaalfruit I'm just going for a cosy babygro and a hat, but tbh we'll be getting in the car, driving for 15 mins then arriving home so I'm not really sure what the point would be 🤷🏼‍♀️ That dress is very cute though!
