@Spark27 thanks for the tip . @Quiffy I watched a YouTube video on some options for birth plans - my legs tightened up straight away . Tears and cuts and foreceps OMG I can’t deal

@BntTowers I need to buy spritz for bits it on my list somewhere Also some said to me to get a douche .

FYI I’m melting I am actually melting - my work chair is leather and I’m sweaty and stuck to it . We only have one fan and dh took it for his Work room.

@babymama09 so many wishes and hope and hugs that you get through this with her .Xxx

MummyBearBoo · 24/06/2020 15:28

I can only go by personal experience -my cut healed In a week but my SIL (who tore forwards instead of backwards because of her position in the water bath) and two of my friends who's babies are now 5,4 and 2 are still struggling from their tears - one got an infection but I guess that could have happened either way -with me they only stitched the inside so the outside was left to heal on its own which means you don't really get issues from the scar tissue as it's not stitched tight or anything!! They also control the cut and cut diagonally away from the back!!

My bump mainly hurts at the top atm! Xxx

otterbaby · 24/06/2020 15:36

@babymama09 glad to hear your little girl is still holding on ❤️

@Quiffy I've bought some spritz for bits. I've heard such good things. It actually arrived today and smells really fresh and nice. Also got my peri bottle today (which might come in handy if we have another lockdown and consequently another toilet roll shortage 😂)

We just bought our pram/pushchair today as well! We went and had a look in store on Monday and it was so helpful to see them in person and test them out. Some of the prices were eye-watering, was looking at an Egg one and then noticed the price tag - £1,300!! Just went "ooh actually this one is probably a bit too bulky for us" and left it at that haha. We've gone for the Bugaboo Bee which is nice and compact but seems really well made.

Question for those who have had their 25 week appts - did you have your bump measured? I had mine yesterday and they didn't measure it and I forgot to ask. I'm guessing it's not a big deal.

Spark27 · 24/06/2020 15:44

@Zaalfruit go, take the fan from him, and beat him with it. Joking, of course. Haha! But its valid in this heat.

@Babymama09 I've had some braxton hicks. Didnt have them last time, or didnt recognise them, but had them occasionally this time. Uncomfortable, but fortunately only last for around the 30secs at a time.

Last time I ended up in theater with them asking to cut me and use forceps. By that point I was happy for anything. For me the worry with a tear is that it can tear any way and become difficult to heal. My thoughts were that if I reach a point where they know I'm going to need to be cut/tear to get the big head out the path of a cut can be more controlled. But it's all a personal choice xx

Treacle81 · 24/06/2020 15:56

@MummyBearBoo OMG I’ve never thought of forward tearing.. the thought of that is terrifying!!! Poor souls! Puts me off water birth now 😳 @babymama09 you have a great attitude and it’s great to hear little one is moving around ❤️ @otterbaby good work! @Zaalfruit yup, grab that fan! I had all the blinds shit and was sitting at my desk in just my pants earlier, cooled down slightly now thankfully! xx

MummyBearBoo · 24/06/2020 16:00

I'm def with you on your reasoning @Spark27 it did seem more controlled!!

I've got to speak to an anaesthetist before I work out the rest of my birth plan coz of complications my muscle condition causes and excessive bleeding complications which were more of an issue when my previous 2 pregnancies ended at 13 weeks rather than with DD! Xx

BntTowers · 24/06/2020 16:04

It's good to hear people's experiences with needing to be cut and it does reassure.

@Zaalfruit definitely go and get the fan, invest in a second one until then try to share by the hour maybe. It's not fair for one person to have it all the time especially when that person isn't pregnant. I got a little desk one a few weeks ago which is great for working.

Definitely not had a productive afternoon with this heat

Treaclepie19 · 24/06/2020 16:04

Eek. All this talk of tears 🙈
I had an episiotomy. It was okay, healed alright eventually though does all feel tighter than before.
I'd rather that than tear simply because tearing is unknown.

Thank you again for all the supportive messages. My dh had a cross bought for fathers day and he has given it me to wear to give her some strength and faith. My dd is currently lying on my stomach and baby keeps kicking her lol xx

MummyBearBoo · 24/06/2020 16:13

@Treacle81 -it wasn't really the water birth don't want to put you off that -she said it was a wonderful experience it's just that she moved position just as the baby came out which caused it apparently it's really rare!!

@babymama09 -glad little one is still kicking!! Xx

LexiM · 24/06/2020 17:28

I am melting! And ignoring all the comments on tearing 😂 haha it's the one topic of discussion that makes me clench!! @Treacle81 I am interested in a water birth too, have read lots of positive things as well.

@otterbaby how exciting about your pram, it's so great isn't it get that ticked off.

I had my 24 week appointment today and glad to make it to that date. Baby was fine, although I thought he had been quieter than normal from the kicks. The midwife said as my urine is fine the back ache is due to the body re-aligning to prepare to carry the baby as he gets bigger. It hasn't been as bad today so that's good. I had a swim in mums pool which was so nice earlier.

Zaalfruit · 24/06/2020 17:30

Hey @otterbaby I asked the midwife said 28 weeks onwards - so don’t worry .

I stole the fan back and then ordered one off amazon for myself for 2mrw I can’t handle this heat .

BettyBotter1 · 24/06/2020 17:57

Thank you all for the welcomes 😀

@BecLJ that's awesome, we're bump twins! How's your pregnancy been going?

I haven't thought at all about kegels or spritzes or oils... maybe I should be looking into these things! And cutting vs tearing too! What's happening in your areas re antenatal classes? Everything where I am is cancelled. The hospital have put a couple of videos on their website but there are no classes virtual or otherwise. I could do an NCT course via zoom if I wanted, but I'm reluctant because it's expensive and isn't local to my area so I wouldn't meet people I could later meet up with in person. I've just been you tubing it and watching life and birth on TV 🙈

BntTowers · 24/06/2020 20:25

@Zaalfruit glad you got your fan ordered. I ordered some ice pop molds today, Going to send DH out tomorrow to get lemonade and strawberries to make some when they arrive. He doesn't know about any of this yet.

CharlieBalf · 24/06/2020 20:46

Hi all,

Hope everyone is well, see I'm not the only one not accustomed to this weather! A friend dropped some bits off today including a breast pump I'd been looking to get (boxed and unused) a moses basket and four packs of new born eco nappies! Feel like I had the baby shower I never had.
25 weeks yesterday and baby's HB sounded like a galloping horse on the monitor... Apparently that means it's a girl? Guess we'll have to wait and see!

ArielJ · 24/06/2020 21:43

@BettyBotter1 have you looked at the free classes offered online? I found a few on Instagram... the maternity collective are offering free antenatal classes (pre recorded) but they talk you through everything it's worth a watch I haven't finished them all but I've definitely learnt a lot!

BettyBotter1 · 24/06/2020 22:56

Thanks @ArielJ I hadn't heard of them at all and have signed up. Sounds very informative and brilliant that it's currently free. Am also going to order some of that Spritz for bits 😱

MummyBearBoo · 24/06/2020 23:21

Baby brain is so bad - so far I've frozen my house keys spent half an hour looking and I'd put them in the freeezer then spent all day looking for our bottle opener for my alco-free pear cider and apparently I'd binned it -my friend who saw me do ii (a single parent who we have a bubble with as mine and her DD are best friends too and I have no family nearby so she was in my house) thought I'd broken it so didn't say anything - so annoying I wasn't even putting the bottle tops in the bin at the same time/I've also bade countless cups if tea and forgotten about them 😂😂 good preparation I guess for baby phase when you make loads but then baby cries at being put down before you get round to drinking them! Xx

Zaalfruit · 25/06/2020 07:34

@MummyBearBoo I didn’t know baby brain was real till I got pregnant I don’t even know what happens - we just loose focus mid way . I can’t believe you froze your keys at least you found them.
My baby brain kicks in at work mainly I will Be half way through something and I just forget that I haven’t finished it.

All this talking of tearing I am really scared now , at 28 weeks will buy all the little bits and bobs.

Anyone that has written a birth plan is there anything you requested that’s really out of the ordinary or has anyone requested no teaching staff . I am most likely giving birth at a teaching hospital I feel guilty to say no as they need to learn but uncomfortable at the idea of so many people looking at me.

Zaalfruit · 25/06/2020 07:38

@CharlieBalf that’s so nice of your friend !
Feels like we are missing out on so much because of covid19. Lool not sure about the heart beat -do girls and boys have different beats ?

What pump is it - I am so confused on what to get .

(I am really not into the idea of breast feeding but I think a healthy mix for me might be to do combination feeding - so might just start with a Manuel pump the medula one looks good and a haaka)

Spark27 · 25/06/2020 07:44

My biggest thing with baby brain last time was just completely forgetting my words. I'd get halfway through a sentence and not be able to remember the words I needed.

I wrote a birth plan last time, but it was fairly flexible. I'm happy with whatever. I know I have a fairly low pain threshold and dont want to feel too much pain, so happy to have all the drugs when needed, etc. Things I really wanted was for DH to cut the cord and skin to skin to be done. I also added a bit to say that if I was unable to make a decision they were to follow whatever DH said. Might be a good one for people that are unmarried if DP isn't your automatic next of kin. Obvs shouldn't need to use it, but just in case.

This time I'll add extra things like having gas and air when being examined, and extra checks post birth as that's when DD had her problems.

I think they usually recommend not being too fixed with a birth plan. Otherwise you might end up being upset if it goes out of the window. These babies have a habit of doing what they want, and you can never be sure of pain levels/length of time, etc as all births are different. xx

LexiM · 25/06/2020 08:22

Oh my baby brain is definitely real. My poor husband has to be so patient when I ask a question then walk off before he answers because i forgot I had asked it. Literally in a few seconds I can forget. I'm glad I'm on furlough because I do a very busy job this time of year involving lots of different tasks and remembering things- I would be utterly useless right now.

I will do a birth preferences sheet, although having looked at it I expect a lot of what I would prefer is routinely done anyway but worth noting it just in case I guess. I'm trying not to have any set ideas in my head so I can't be disappointed.

@Zaalfruit thanks for asking the breast pump question, I'm collecting info on them now but probably wont get one until baby is here and I know I can use it. You do what's right for you with feeding. I know the colostrum when they are first born is super good for baby so you could just feed (or Express and feed) that and see how you go. I am all for not putting lots of pressure on myself and just seeing how I feel.

Quiffy · 25/06/2020 08:33

Sorry for bringing up the T-word! I think I agree cut seems more controlled. I got a perineal massage oil in a baby box yesterday which is said to help. Googling how to do it though... oh dear.

I need to research what I should be putting in a birthing plan, think I'll be pretty flexible tbh. I'm already in the hospital bit as I'm red pathway so I'm planning gas and air and if it's too much I'm happy for an epidural.

I do really hope we can have 2 birthing partners as I really want my mum there, she's great under pressure and won't take guff. DH has a blood/injury/hospital phobia and I full expect him to hide in a corner.

@otterbaby oooh I didnt know about bottles - added to Amazon baby list

@BettyBotter1 I think ours are still cancelled but I got given a link to free 10 hour online class from my midwife - I'm not sure if it's just for Scotland though. I think I'll start it this afternoon.

Link here if anyone wants:

The access code was just a postcode

@CharlieBalf that was so nice of your friend!

@Zaalfruit I'm still feeling uneasy on breastfeeding, but think combo feeding might be the way. Have you watched any videos on it yet? Not sure if it will make me feel better or worse :(

Zaalfruit · 25/06/2020 08:40

Ahh thanks !

@LexiM that’s why I was thinking a Manuel pump just to ease myself in - I don’t know why but I have this fear if I actually breastfeed it will take away me from being me . I really wanted to have her it took me 13 months to conceive but breastfeeding feels like I won’t be me anymore - everything feels else feels fuss free to me

So I call my dh ,dh - but we aren’t married . We have just been together for so long we just call each other husband and wife , he technically Isn’t my next to kin. Might have to state that he needs to make a decision if I can’t. I really want him to cut the cord but he is so scared and refuses to.

I want lots of pain meds I can’t take any pain any one even holds me tight it hurts me and I get bruised . I want gas and air , epididural but I really want to give birth naturally . My mum has such easy labours average 4-5 hours - but she told me went on
Intensive walks for 90 mins for the last month and did lots of kegals which I have failed miserably at doing.

My baby brain is bad at work I forgot something so vital yesterday luckily one of the boys emailed me asking if I completed it or the client would have been out of pocket . I can’t wait 14 more weeks of work for me and then I’m off on maternity leave .

Zaalfruit · 25/06/2020 08:43

@Quiffy I tried to watch a video but it made me feel uncomfortable .

I wish there was antenatal classes for breastfeeding not online ones that might help.

It’s so sad I don’t even know how to change a nappy , swaddle a baby or even hold one .

I am hoping mine and dh instincts just kick in.

Ooh what oil did you get , let us know how it goes .
