@zaalfruit I got the Weleda one and it seems to have good reviews on Amazon. Think I can start at 34 weeks.

Same here on all the basics, I think I've held a baby once and it was under duress. Swaddling really scares me, I'm thinking of getting one of the sleeping bags that can be used from birth instead. I'm sure it will all be fine once they are here though!

Treacle81 · 25/06/2020 08:54

Morning girls! Ah the great baby 🧠! I have had it for ages now (according to partner)! I’m bad for leaving lights on and cupboard doors open 🙈 that’s about it. It’s every day though, just completely forget! I’m also Scotland @Quiffy so I’ll have a look at that at some point, thanks! It’s so good that’s a few of us are in the same boat when comes to bf, just certainly freaks me out a little! @Zaalfruit I had a student midwife deliver my first and my mother (who was in the medical field before retiring) said she gets they need to learn but shouldn’t on first time mothers. Ended up having to have episiotomy and forceps delivery as she applied ventouse incorrectly and you only get one attempt at that. I’d defo be saying no as it’s your first. Meant to be a scorcher today so got all the windows open and will keep blinds shut all day and hope it helps xx

Hey @babymama09 just belatedly wishing you all the very best, thinking of you xx

And @BettyBotter1 belated welcome! 😄

On the birth planning, I’ve had anxiety for a long time so have signed up for an elective c-section, but v conscious lots of babies come early so all advice above really helpful!

And on the work, I’m so so tired, it’s going to get pretty funny by September... took this week on hols and trying every pillow/cushion/Pilates combo to try to get more sleep 🤞🤞🤞

FourPlasticRings · 25/06/2020 09:00

I've got spritz for bitz but didn't use it last time due to tearing- I wasn't sure if it could be used on the stitches or not and didn't want to risk it.

WRT tear v cut, I'd always go for the tear, personally, unless medically essential to go for the cut. Tears knit together more natural so heal stronger. Tears are less likely to come open again in later births.

BntTowers · 25/06/2020 09:04

@Zaalfruit I'm thinking manual at first, I ordered a Hakka one and will see how I go with that.
We had a zoom call with some of DH's friends last week and one (well his partner) had just had a baby 4 weeks ago and was asking all these questions about if I was going to breast feed and to get nipples guards if I do... This was on a call with a few other people and I found it really uncomfortable to be talking about my boobs with his mates.
Also my SIL is sitting on a high horse about how everyone should breast feed and it doesn't make sense for them not too. This is someone who doesn't have kids, isn't going to have them anytime soon and has absolutely no idea about babies at all. She's started posting videos to Facebook about the benefits of breast feeding and she needs to cool it.

I've called in sick today. My back is hurting and I've been quite dizzy, also hardly slept and hayfever is in full force.

I printed out the happy parent happy baby birth preference sheets last night to go through not looked too closely at the yet but I think I will just note down everything on there. I feel fairly flexible with what I want.

Baby brain has been hitting me most at work as well, and on an evening I find it difficult to remember words sometimes.

Treaclepie19 · 25/06/2020 09:06

It's nice to talk to people so openly about formula feeding.
My plan is to express a bit before (I think) and then see how we get on. I may try breastfeeding but I'm 99% sure this time i want to quickly go into formula feeding. My mental health could have been helped last time by just making the switch.
I've bought a mam manual pump just so I have something. The medela electric ones were amazing in the hospital (I expressed in NICU last time) but I won't be investing yet when I'm not expecting to use it long.

Morning girls, yep baby brain here
I put clean teaspoons in the freezer
Unable to finish sentences
Put salt in the fridge
Etc

Its soooo hot today, I'm really struggling with clothes and what to wear as my body shape has changed so much let alone just a bump, and dont even mention polyester to me, I get a sweat just thinking about it

My arms and wrists are killing me Sad and I was itching last night so google wasnt my friend this morning

I cant believe I've still got 3 months at work, it seems like a long time but reality is that it's going to be a long 3 months and struggling with tiredness in the afternoons already

Not felt baby girl move much last 24 hours but I have felt some movement. I've definitely gone on a growth spurt as none of my bras are fitting currently googling maternity bras for some inspiration

Re birthing plan, I have in my mind a twee I dont want medical intervention type thing, however I am realistic and I know that might not be possible. Just have no idea where to start with a plan

Spark27 · 25/06/2020 09:57

I'm taking a pregnancy sick day today too. Barely slept last night. Took myself down to the sofa and had a fan constantly on me. Baby was moving loads too, which is great, but a bit uncomfortable. Got back ache, headache, stuffy nose.....urgh, the joys of pregnancy.

My plan on feeding is the same as last time. I'll try to bf (mostly cos it will save time with having DD too), but if it doesnt take I'll express for a month hopefully, and then move to formula. Last time I stopped expressing at 12w as I really wanted my body back and to not smell of milk constantly. I've been looking into formula. We gave DD aptimil last time, but looking into it it's the same ingredients and nutritional value so might go to Cow&Gate this time. Saves £3.50 a pot, which definitely adds up.

LexiM · 25/06/2020 10:37

@Zaalfruit obviously I don't have a baby yet but can relate to worries about not feeling like yourself anymore, it's something I think about too. My thought is that both types of feeding have pros and cons and getting up in the night to prepare a bottle is a con for me, so im going to try it but won't feel the pressure if it's not for me. I feel lucky I'm the type of person that wont be made to feel bad for a sensible choice for myself and my mental health. I think it's so wrong when people try to push mothers, theres a difference between helping and telling someone what to do and some people don't get that.

So many people have babies and don't know anything beforehand and really thrive, so I'm sure you will be fine. Definitely speak to your midwife about support options. We have a really good Facebook group and from the sounds of it infant feeding support team too in my area. I can imagine the level of support and groups varies hugely across the country and that can make a huge difference for first time mums experience.

My SIL has given me a nature bond, similar to Hakka. I've followed them on Instagram and seems people rave about them, I had never even heard of it before but seems really clever way to save wasted milk too.

I'm literally sat on the sofa in front of the fan right now! Not sure I'm going to move 😂

MummyBearBoo · 25/06/2020 10:55

I loved breast feeding (after the first two weeks anyway it just seems to calm them instantly -even if they hurt themselves and it makes you both relaxed and sleepy and releases feel good hormones plus gives them vital antibodies you have which they may need!!!

I only found my keys coz I decided to look in the most random places!!

I didn't like the idea of students but by the time you've been in labour for a few hours you're really past caring!!

Birth plans definitely need to be flexible -I'd like DH to cut cord and skin to skin like what happened with DD but if that doesn't happen as long as baby is ok I'll be happy!!

Don't worry too much about tearing/ being cut you'll have a new baby given to you before they start stitching you up and give pain relief to make you more comfortable!

I had quite a lot of bleeding due to retained product so they gave me morphine after baby was born as they tried to get it out (didn't work) but I'm requesting no morphine or diamorphine coz it makes me sick -so after 24 hours of not being allowed to eat (May have needed surgery do to my muscle condition thankfully didn't) I was then sick after my toast and tea 😢 xxx

Zaalfruit · 25/06/2020 11:04

@LexiM thank you for your kind words . I am in the bot where everyone around me is so judgy if you don’t breastfeed. Which is so unfair . I want to give give it a chance that’s why I’m going for the Manuel one for now the medula hand pump is 14.99 so I though pretty inexpensive if I don’t use it much .

@Spark27 I reckon I need one of them a pregnancy sick day. Feel over whelmed at work as only my manager knows I’m pregnant so people pile on the work and I get really stressed. Yeah cow and gate looks more cost effective .

@Indigogirl88 hope it gets better as the day goes on. I feel hot and hot and hot - I brought 4 pregancy leggings and some Baggy T-shirt’s would wear maxis but they give me chub rub 🤪

@BntTowers your sister in laws needs to meet mine breast is breast blah- go away please . I try to ignore The noise , they are lovely but way to much into breastfeeding she did till her daughter was 28 months. Only stopped cos her daughter bit her once so hard it drew blood.

BntTowers · 25/06/2020 11:21

@Zaalfruit take a sick day if you need it. I hate calling in the morning of taking a sick day but now I'm feeling more relaxed. Not been able to get back to sleep but at least I'm not working. I've been able to focus on feeling baby move which is nice as they have been quiet the past few days.
It sounds like even your SILs baby had got fed up of her going on about breast feeding. I think my SIL means we'll, but she gets sucked into thinking this is the right way and then she will have a massive opinion about something she has no experience of and it's annoying. I've only responded with I'll try it. I think mil would prefer of I breastfed exclusively as she refused to give DH a bottle when he was a baby even though she was struggling to breastfeed.

MummyBearBoo · 25/06/2020 12:32

My DD hated c&g and SMA made her sick she'd only drink Aptamil when I stopped breastfeeding- she took to formula really easy once I stopped and switched to cows milk easy at 1 but she was just a bit picky about which formula! Xxx

Spark27 · 25/06/2020 14:09

Good point @MummyBearBoo. I'd forgotten about their ability to be annoying and not drink some formulas. DD went through a phase of needed a prescription one for a few months as she vomited everything else up, even though she initially had formula in SCBU. I'll get a few different ones of the pre mixed bottles first. Will be annoyed if I open a pot of powder and then have to throw it away.

MummyBearBoo · 25/06/2020 14:36

Yes that's what I did -exclusively breastfed for 6 months then tried a few different pre-made bottles and she only liked Aptamil and was fine taking it from Tommee Tippee bottles so once I knew she was ok with that I bought a perfect prep and a box of Aptamil powder!!
Weaning wise I gave her veg before fruit coz they say give them sweet fruit after and now she still loves veg no matter what we give her with it she always eats all her veg first!! Xx

Treaclepie19 · 25/06/2020 14:39

It's funny you say that @MummyBearBoo, we did that with veg and although he's very fussy he does eat veg really well and fruit of course.

OP posts:
MummyBearBoo · 25/06/2020 14:48

They're all just so different apart from sausage, bacon and chicken (and beef mince in spag bol) she's not a massive meat eater and she won't eat chicken nuggets and only a bit of a homemade burger but not any pre-made ones so if we ever get mcDonalds (hardly ever) she'll only ever have the fish fingers!! But then we've only recently started offering her these kinds of food so I guess she didn't have them early so she's not bothered! Xx

Treaclepie19 · 25/06/2020 15:08

@MummyBearBoo my ds is really fussy. He won't eat meat apart from chicken nuggets, sausage from the chip shop and greggs sausage rolls. He will eat potato in any form, veg, fruit, nuts, yoghurts, plain spaghetti.
Its fine most of the day but evening meals are tricky. I tend to do lots of picky plates for him. We don't eat much meat anyway (none before I was pregnant) but it makes me worried with how little protein rich foods he will eat.
(Though I just get creative and use nuts/milk/yoghurts/peanut butter)

OP posts:
MrsD1990 · 25/06/2020 15:08

@BntTowers how annoying of your SIL!! My plan is to breastfeed but I know I might not be able to (my mum hated it and did it for 6 weeks) if anyone dares try to guilt trip me about it they will not be met with a friendly response!!

I'm with everyone on the trouble sleeping - up since 4 this morning!!! Husband thinks it's the heat but I think it's more to do with baby jumping on my bladder in the night 😂

Spoke to HR about my annual leave and maternity leave this morning... I'm having 2 and a bit weeks off before my due date in case baby comes early - what are others planning to do? So 12 weeks until I'm off! Enjoy my job but can't wait, having real trouble concentrating, especially with WFH and lack of sleep!

MummyBearBoo · 25/06/2020 15:15

@Treaclepie19 Apart from garlic mayo (which she even dips garlic bread in -she loves garlic) my DD hates any sauce and gravy she'll eat spag bol and carbonara or macaroni cheese which have sauce in but that's it they're so funny!! Xxx

Spark27 · 25/06/2020 15:23

Seen a FB post from Bedford Hosp on the September mummies group. Tried to upload a screenshot but it's not working. It says that babies body temperature is one degree hotter than mums. It recommends we stay out of the sun and keep hydrated. It says theres a lot of reports of reduced movement in weather like this, so take it easy, and if you are worried to call your maternity unit

Treaclepie19 · 25/06/2020 15:24

They really are! He eats ketchup and gravy...and curry sauce from the chip shop but that's as far as sauces go 😂

MummyBearBoo · 25/06/2020 15:33

Thanks @Spark27 I'm staying inside it's much cooler -she's still kicking now but I'm really surprised how high she's kicking it just a bit lower than my ribs I didn't think she was big to reach that high yet /I've had a lot stretching pains that high up too! Xxx

Quiffy · 26/06/2020 09:48

I also have a few candidates that will have a go at me re: breastfeeding. Think everything we do will be judged. All our babies will be wonderful whatever way we go 😁

I didn't get a call from my GD test and was celebrating. But DH reminded me that he thinks I gave them the wrong mobile as I told him the wrong mobile number 😅

BntTowers · 26/06/2020 10:21

@Quiffy fingers crossed, surely they would cross reference the phone number with what's on your file.
I've just Google perineum massage... Too early in the day for that!
