@MummyBearBoo sorry i mean 2 lots not 3!! 🙈

MummyBearBoo · 11/06/2020 12:58

That sounds awful @HerondaleDucks -hope the results are good news though!!

I'm always like a pin cushion when people try and take blood apparently I have deep veins -it normally takes 3 goes at least- last time I was in hospital I had to keep having blood taken and had 3 cannulas (due to massive blood loss needing transfusions and surgery) by the end they ended up taking blood from my wrist they'd already punctured 3 veins in my hands and two in each arm and one in my forearm where a useless junior doctor left me with a 5cm bruise! Xx

NWnature · 11/06/2020 14:36

Ohhh @HerondaleDucks that sounds horrible. I’m terrified of veins and really
Really really hate having bloods done. You were v brave! Definitely have a rest this afternoon.

Does anyone who already has kids or is around little ones know some good ideas for first birthdays? It’s my best friends baby’s coming up and I want to get something good but it’s so hard if you haven’t got a clue! Any ideas appreciated.

LexiM · 11/06/2020 15:36

@Zaalfruit glad everything is ok with baby and it’s good they encouraged you to go in. Hope you get some good sleep tonight.

Argh @HerondaleDucks that sounds like an awful day, hope you are feeling better now. I’ve got to have the test at Salisbury too in the coming weeks, I know to drink water before bloods because when I first went to the Midwife she couldn’t get any blood from me because I was dehydrated and I had to go to bloods departments at the hospital. They’ve always found it hard...It’s the waiting around for over two hours that I’m not looking forward to, it’s hard to relax in there!

I picked up a cot top changer today I got off Facebook Market place, another thing ticked off my list. The pram is out for delivery too - that was so quick!

Spark27 · 11/06/2020 16:27

That sounds horrible @Herondaleducks. Pleased you get home safely. Definitely take the rest of the day easy. Hope you're feeling better.

@NWnature, is it wrong that I cant really remember what I got my DD for her 1st birthday! It's a tricky one cos 1 year olds aren't really into anything. I think my DD DD the wrapping paper and boxes to any presents! Depends if you want to get a keepsake type thing or something useful. I always default to asking the parent if there's something that would help- vouchers for clothes/shoes, etc. Or maybe a hard copy of a classic book? Or buy them/get vouchers for a family photo shoot?

HerondaleDucks · 11/06/2020 16:31

Thanks for all the love ladies!
I drank a fair amount of water this morning, so dunno what it was. My hand has gone all green now and is very sore. Hand bloods are the worst!
Hope yours goes more smoothly than mine @LexiM
Sharon seems to be the expert blood taker. Ask for her lol!

MrsD1990 · 11/06/2020 16:59

@Zaalfruit glad you were seen by someone and that you got to hear the heart beat and find out everything is ok. I hope today was ok even though you didn't get any sleep - hope you were able to take it easy and maybe even get a nap in!

Spark27 · 11/06/2020 17:02

Decided to have an productive day today going through baby clothes and trying to organise all the baby stuff that's been dumped in the nursery. Took about 3 hrs but I now have a list of everything I have up to 6 months and it's all organised. Also sorted all the other bits that DD has grown out off (toys, weaning stuff, etc). Then decided to organise all DDs toys. I am now knackered. On the sofa with an aching back. Definitely having a takeaway tonight.

Quiffy · 11/06/2020 17:36

@herondaleducks that sounds awful! Glad you're home now to rest 😫

@Spark27 super productive! Sorting clothes is my job for tomorrow I think

I've worked on my baby list all day, think I've got everything written down that we need, along with some research into what brands I'd like. Now to tick them off 🙈🙈🙈

MummyBearBoo · 11/06/2020 17:37

@NWnature- My DD loved sound books and we got her a ride on pony she'd just started walking a couple of months before she was 1 but the ride on things are good if they can walk or not!

NWnature · 11/06/2020 17:50

Thanks @Spark27 and @MummyBearBoo !
Some great ideas. A Classic book is great and sentimental can write a little message in ! And I can imagine her loving a ride-on thing - will get searching.

Zaalfruit · 11/06/2020 18:28

@MummyBearBoo that’s so cute that you can see kicks and so lucky you get a 4d pic . I don’t think I have a another scan till September .

@BntTowers I should have taken today off was on edge at work everyone was pissing me off - but I just want to save sick days when I really feel unwell . I might tel my team at work as I am expected to do a lot and they might ease up on me 😂
Deffo buy lots of sugar and fizzy drinks - since getting pregant fizzy drinks aren’t my thing anymore just doesn’t taste great.

@HerondaleDucks omgoodness are you alright that sounds traumatic . I hope you are resting up the rest of what is left of today . (Drink lots of water )

Thank you everyone - you know my plan was just to go to sleep and hope for the best . Please no one do that - they told me off so much for not calling them earlier .

Bloods are the worst - I get thinnner needles I’m so scared before they even take the blood I have gone limp 🤣 I’m such a wuss if they said they are taking my blood from my hand I’m running away - I also get the numbing cream prescribed so that I can’t feel the pain.

It’s really bad I want to nap now - but I if I nap now I won’t be able to fall asleep later on just need to force myself to stay awake for the next few hours . Also had an emotional shower as my belly looked huge with a fat stretch mark that dh touched yesterday and said looks like a silver scar :(

MummyBearBoo · 11/06/2020 18:36

I managed to avoid stretch marks last time and I'm using bump cream and have been since week 14 but my bump is so big already not sure I'll be able to avoid them this time!! Xxx

Indigogirl88 · 11/06/2020 20:43

Well done @Spark27 I did something similar and I'm picking up some second hand bits off Facebook this weekend
What's everyones troughts on second hand? Dp thinks it's a bit creepy and yukky but I think it's only going to get sick on and they all get washed!

I'm using the stretch mark butter from palmers and working well so far.

Hope everyone is doing ok. Dp keeps having a go at me for falling asleep early but then I cant sleep during the night it's becoming a vicious cycle at the moment and I feel miserable about it

I also feel a bit un pregnant today, baby hasnt been moving much at all so I want to chill out and try and feel her in bed not too worried about the minute though as I think I felt something earlier, she must be laying oddly

Spark27 · 11/06/2020 20:54

I'm all for 2nd hand stuff. Esp when you see how much stuff they can go through so quickly, and the price of new stuff. Provided it's not stained it really doesnt matter. And you're going to wash it as well. My DH was a bit off about it at first, but then he started looking into the price of things! Things I would definitely get new: mattresses, muslins (cos they just get covered in sick/dribble), and bottles and teats.

I find if I nap I have real difficulty in getting to sleep at a decent time, so I'm trying to not unless I have a really bad night.

Had a Chinese takeaway. Was so yummy, but I couldn't eat as much as I wanted, and I'm so full.

LexiM · 11/06/2020 21:29

@Zaalfruit I know what you mean about getting tired too early to go to bed but too late to nap. I always call it the danger zone and find it so hard to stay awake!

@Indigogirl88 I’m all for second hand bits. It’s crazy some of the costs for baby things new and you can get such good quality things second hand. My husband is also not as keen but I just collect it haha! So far I’ve got a bedside crib, wooden cot changing top, new changing mat and some blankets. Everything can either be washed or wiped down with cleaner and often people have barely used things or get given extra gifts and never use them.

@Spark27 I can never eat as much as I think I can/usually would now. Which is good but I’m always disappointed after the excitement of getting the takeaway 😂

Zaalfruit · 11/06/2020 22:26

I took the danger nap . I am so awake now . I just fell asleep .

Now I am trying to understand why do nappies sizes go in weight and not age?

Zaalfruit · 11/06/2020 22:27

Lol my post didn’t even make sense. I am not sure at what point I fell asleep , I just fell asleep on the sofa . Dh hates that we don’t watch tv together anymore or do anything after 8 anymore I’m just so knackered .

AutumnBabyWinterMummy · 12/06/2020 06:53

@Spark27 that sounds like a lovely day you had sorting through everything!

@NWnature I recently got a 1 year old little girl a doll for her birthday just like a soft bodied cute smallish one for babies. She loves it. She also got a few others but loves them all! And for Xmas which was a month after I got her a musical battery powered drum which she also liked a lot around the time (18 months now so not as bothered!).

@
@Indigogirl88 I'm all for second hand. Everything can be cleaned. Just get new mattresses etc.

I went to sleep at 8 last night 🙈🙈 and just woke up. So had a good 10.5 hours sleep. Hopefully that will sort me out for the day!!

What's everyone's views on 2nd hand car seats? We are being given 2, both with isofix bases really lovely ones so will save us about £500. One from my cousin another from a friend. We trust both people that they haven't had car accidents in them. But you just hear stories they're not safe even if they've had just a little bump. Would you take them? Xx

Indigogirl88 · 12/06/2020 07:26

@AutumnBabyWinterMummy I'd say yes for the car seats but I'd check the manufacturer's instructions make sure you've got all the padding still and that they still meet standards

Spark27 · 12/06/2020 08:03

I'd take the car seats @Autumnbabywintermummy. I'd check the manufacturer's for any kind of age issues (does the padding only last 7yrs or something??), but if that's fine I'd go for it. You trust where they came from so all ok. We got given a few from my sister when her boys grew into booster seats.

Managed about 7hrs sleep, but DD kept waking up. I've woken up with a banging headache. Hows is this fair when I've not been drinking?!

LexiM · 12/06/2020 08:12

@Zaalfruit I would guess nappies are on weight because all aged children can be different sizes?! I have no idea how many to get before baby is here but I would guess quite a lot!

@AutumnBabyWinterMummy
Glad you slept well, I went to bed fine then woke at 2.30am because of a random and horrible dream. The pregnancy brain is so weird! Hope your headache goes soon @Spark27

I would probably take the car seats as you trust the people, but check how old they are as I had read something about them being no good after a long time. I’ve got a second hand isofix base for my Mums car, we will use our seat in it. I presume as it has light indicators to say it’s fitted correctly that means it’s safe. It is difficult to know where to draw the line on bits from people you know.

ArielJ · 12/06/2020 08:25

Morning!! I'm new to this thread due 7th October. Was just reading about some of the movements you ladies have had is there anyone who has an anterior placenta so not feeling full kicks yet? Had my 20wk scan and all was fine but just makes me so anxious.

Quiffy · 12/06/2020 08:30

@AutumnBabyWinterMummy I'd take them too as you know both people. That's a superb saving.

@Indigogirl88 second hand is brilliant, esp since so many people buy lots and they don't get used much/at all. I've had most things second (got one of those new fancy tommee tippee sterilisers for £30 yesterday woop) but I think I'm getting travel system and snuzpod new, just because there aren't any locals of the ones I like. Plus only seen snuzpod local (not in colour I want) for £100-115. By the time I bought new mattress, sheets etc, I might as well get the bundle deal with everything for £220 as it's not that much more than second.

@Spark27 non hangover headaches are just rude!

I've fallen out with DH this morning (might be my hormones making me unreasonable). I usually wake up knackered at 6am but can't get back to sleep, on a few golden days I'll sleep in until 8.30 and it's wonderful. Dh occasionally talks or acts awake while asleep. This morning he is shaking me awake and I think something is wrong so I bolt awake and I'm asking him and he says he's not sure if something is wrong - I'm then panicking that he's had a seizure or something. Until I realise the mofo is ASLEEP as he stops talking gibberish and starts snoring. It's 7.30. I've lost my lie in. So I shake him awake furious. He says he doesn't remember doing it so it's not his fault "and I should just go back to sleep" which I can't as I'm awake and it's now a race to get food before I'm sick. So, I got dressed furiously and told one of the cats we were going to live with my parents where people can actually sleep. He replied good, he'll pack my bags. I've not spoke to him since. Men 😡

Quiffy · 12/06/2020 08:32

@ArielJ welcome! My widwife told me that it's normal not to feel movements until past 24 weeks and even more if your placenta is cushioning it. Hard not to be anxious but your LO will be thrashing around in there ❤️
