@HerondaleDucks that's great news!! You must be so pleased.

@otterbaby I have always had a sweet tooth and am craving sugar so much recently, so definitely every day, a few times a day! I eat far too much sugar really 😩

LostinAusten2 · 12/06/2020 22:49

Hey just seconding all the comments on its being so hard at work: @BntTowers @Indigogirl88 @AutumnBabyWinterMummy

Five days a week really doesn’t feel do-able, with so little sleep on top! Honestly, I begin to see the benefits of being a man 😄

MummyBearBoo · 13/06/2020 02:40

Not had a nap in the day as I have more energy atm but this insomnia thing is crazy I mean a sharp kick in my side from baby and the noise from the weather doesn't really help me sleep but I think I'm now past tired!! Xx

Indigogirl88 · 13/06/2020 08:17

Last night I was starving at 1am so had to have cereal, my dead arms are really driving me insane and wake me up. I didnt feel baby so much yesterday but she was kicking away when I was eating my cereal Grin

I'm really going for a positive day today, I need to food shop and get out walking, just taking it easy. I've definitely been getting bigger so doing tonnes is knackering me out, fall asleep early then wake during the night!

Indigogirl88 · 13/06/2020 08:18

Me and dp had this long conversation about nappy bags last night and the pros and cons of a backpack as I want a backpack but he reckons a holdall would be better. Any second time mums with any suggestions?

Treaclepie19 · 13/06/2020 08:52

Uuuughhh. Our 4yo woke up at about 2.30am and didn't go back to sleep. Eventually gave in about 6am and let him watch YouTube a bit but I am KNACKERED.

My whole body hurts and my joints have been clicking when I move.

@Indigogirl88 I'd say it depends if you're planning on using a sling most or a pram. Backpacks are good for hands free but if you're using a pram you can just hook whatever bag on there.

I'm with you today @Treaclepie19. A mixture of pregnancy insomnia and DD waking up throughout the night means I only got about 4 hours sleep. Today is going to be a struggle.

@Indigogirl88 I bought a changing bag last time. Looked around for ages. Cost £60. Used it about 5 times and then sold it, and used a cheap backpack. I found the changing bag was too much off a faff. Too many pockets (I know that sounds stupid) and I found it kept slipping off my shoulder when I lent to pick up the carseat. Meant the bag slid down and hit DD in the face. Haha. I found a backpack so much easier as I had both hands free all the time. I had a bigger one when I needed loads (used it last year for hand luggage, so useful), and a small cheap one for when I just needed a few bits xx

LexiM · 13/06/2020 09:01

Morning everyone! Typically I could sleep past my husband’s alarm in the morning but it always wakes me up, today no alarm and I’m awake early!

@Indigogirl88 from what I’ve read most people seem to say a backpack is more practical, particularly later on when they’re more active out and about, as well as earlier when maybe baby is in a sling or you’re just popping out without full pram. My dilemma is whether to get a changing bag specific one, and if so which one or whether to just get a normal rucksack and maybe a pouch to go inside. Quite a few people seem to say after a while they can’t be bothered with the full pocketed changing bag. Would love advice too from those who are already parents!

That’s me with the sleeping too. I’m starting to feel heavy at night and I just get to a point where I have to go to bed to be a little more comfortable. I guess I will be going to bed at 7 then when I’m nearly 40 weeks haha! I know even then nothing will be comfortable. I have a ball on the way, I’m hoping sitting on that swaying in the evenings will help my hip.

LexiM · 13/06/2020 09:03

@Spark27 Were the backpacks changing specific or just a general one?

My SIL gets her whole changing bag kit into a children’s Cath kidston bag, personally I want more space than that but don’t want something really massive!!

Spark27 · 13/06/2020 09:17

Just normal backpacks @LexiM. The big ones have some pockets anyway. And I find as soon as somethings 'maternity/baby' it's usually twice the price

I'm probably going to use the big one to take to hospital with entertainment stuff and snacks, etc when I give birth.

HerondaleDucks · 13/06/2020 10:57

We bought a really nice changing backpack from Amazon for 30.
Though... I can't properly review until we use it.

Officially 24 weeks now. Absolutely bonkers.

MummyBearBoo · 13/06/2020 12:37

@Indigogirl88 Definitely back pack it's leaves your hands free then which is definitely needed!-I had a 1 strap bag but then went and bought a backpack!! Xxx

MummyBearBoo · 13/06/2020 12:38

You can get knew that have bottle armies o the front pockets which are ideal!! Xxx

Spark27 · 13/06/2020 13:14

Recieved a letter from the NHS saying I've been randomly selected to take part in an at-home COVID test to aid their research on the virus and how far its spread. Most exciting thing I've got going on at the mo Grin

MrsD1990 · 13/06/2020 13:15

@HerondaleDucks snap! 24 weeks today, so happy to be this far along 😊 4 more weeks until the third trimester!! I'm actually moving house in 6 weeks so that will be comical given how big I'll be then!

Treacle81 · 13/06/2020 13:50

Hi girls! Oh it’s so exciting to hear of all the things people are buying for their new arrivals. I’m pretty much done apart from nappies, creams and toiletries. I had forcep delivery and episiotomy after failed ventouse which left a very sore perineum for months. So I’m planning on getting the creams and doing the perineum stretching at 34 weeks to hopefully reduce chance of tearing this time around as hoping to have drug free labour of possible. I’ve also decided to take two weeks annual leave from 18th Sept then start mat leave. I seem to have a little bit of fixing before bed, feet on top of pillows, a wedge in between knees and my pregnancy pillow round the side of me but it seems to be beneficial as defo helping my sleep! The viable stage is just great to think about (24 weeks) so congrats to those that are, I’ll be joining you on Mon xx

Indigogirl88 · 13/06/2020 17:20

Thanks girls I knew a backpack, 20 odd quid from amazon would be better!

@Treacle81 oh I've read about perineum massage and have no idea about it, Its got me thinking though.

I've made a list today of things we still need and put wash loads on of baby clothes so I feel nice and organised at the minute eek!

LexiM · 13/06/2020 17:29

Ah so excited for you all at 24 weeks now, won’t be far behind!

Thanks for all the advice on the rucksacks, really helpful. @Treacle81 I’m going to do that massage too after reading up on it. How many nappies have you got? I’ve been getting one pack from each place and I know babies use quite a few but I don’t want to go mad especially if he’s big.

My exciting purchase of the year came today, made me so happy! We spent ages testing it all out with the toddler seat, car seat etc. Fits in the boot which was a phew moment 😂 and through the front door! Now it’s just storing it for the next 4 months - we couldn’t believe how quickly it came. Ordered it on Tuesday, I was expecting it to be a few weeks before it arrived! We opened it in front of my Mum and Grandma which was nice to be able to do.

My birthing ball and The Positive Birth Book by Milli Hill also arrived today, I’ve heard good things about the book. Has anyone read it?

Now that’s it, no more spending for this month! Haha yeah right...I’m never usually a spendy person and first month of lockdown I was so good, however since then I’ve become addicted!! I would say we have 1/2 - 3/4 of the stuff for the baby now, so not everything but I like to slowly get bits each month and this month has been a big one!

It's sounds like so many are being so organised! It's lovely. DH got up early today to make sure someone was up for our IKEA and John Lewis deliveries. Both arrived before 8.30 which was good. We've mostly got the wardrobe up but my back is hurting now and DH has gone to do the food shop. We even walked to get fish and chips at lunch time, which was a treat. I am hoping we will get the chest of drawers up tomorrow and then the cotbed next weekend. Once the furniture is up and my Matalan order arrives I can start washing some things. Still have a massive list of things to buy though.

Spark27 · 13/06/2020 17:49

Very exciting @LexiM, and it looks beautiful.

I'm getting DH to pick up nappies from Aldi when he visits. We used them for DD and they were really good (up until she started saving up her wee's at night and swamping them, but that was when she was 2+yrs). I've only got 4 packs of size 1 and have then moved on to size 2. My DD was 3.1kg born at 38+4 so if this one is at least that weight that should be fine. We have a big tescos 2mins walk round the corner so if we have any nappy dramas we can easily swap to theirs. If you dont open bags you can easily return them as well. Just say baby has grown out of them.
I've got a few bags of nappy bags (but I'll only use them for pooey nappies), got some normal nappy cream and will get sudacream for if there are sore bite. Sudacream is excellent to put on any cuts/scratches, etc.

I am going to get some extra sentivite baby wipes for the first month (probably Amazon ones as I've read good things), before I then move onto the Aldi ones. I will do a baby wipe stock in the coming months.

I'm also going to gradually stock up on some formula. I plan to bf or express bf for the first month or so, but will definitely move onto formula at some point, and possibly use it to top up if needed. Last time round I managed to build a supply so I didnt have to pay for it once I'd gone down to SMP and no pay. Its £11 a tub!

Treacle81 · 13/06/2020 17:57

@LexiM that pram is beautiful, love the brown handle with it 🙌🏻. I’ve bought Aldi’s Mamia premier nappies as heard such great reviews. Only bought the 1 pack to see for myself though. I’m going to get the Positive Birth Company book, was going to order from Amazon but the PBC are selling the affirmation cards with it, sold out, so if it comes back in stock before i’m 30 weeks I’ll get it, if not just order on Amazon. Just ordered chips and cheese and nachos for dinner!!! xx

AutumnBabyWinterMummy · 13/06/2020 18:16

@Treaclepie19 sounds like a tough night! Hopefully you get a really good sleep tonight!

Those of you who already have kids whilst being pregnant I don't know how you do it!!

Congrats those who are 24 weeks! I'm counting down to being 24 weeks (9 days) as it feels like hit a point where it's all a bit safer!

@Treacle81 I've also bought perinium (don't know how to spell it!) cream. Got it in a multipack with the spritz for bits that a lot of people seem to rave about.

@LexiM oh I love your pram! We also got ours yesterday I'll attach a pic!

LexiM · 13/06/2020 18:24

Thanks ladies, we are so lucky.

Oh all your food today sounds delicious - I just love nachos and chips and cheese so much. Carbs and cheese is the best 😄

We’ve got x1 Aldi standard, x1 Aldi premium, x1 Morrison’s and x1 Tesco brand nappies, most have 20-25 in a pack so I guess I should stop there then if you used 4 packs. I’ve got some cotton wool pads, water wipes and also cheeky wipes. Hoping that I will get into the cheeky wipes and that will therefore be enough. Most this stuff I just get randomly with weekly shops and it all adds up to quite a bit once you list it all. Basically I like anything I can get from a supermarket as it’s the only place I go 😂

@treacle81 - I have the Positive Birth Co digital pack and I’m enjoying that. Think i will read this new book and then stop there. I feel there is a limit to sources of information for birth I need as lots is repetitive for each different brand of book, class etc.

@BntTowers it really is tiring doing all the furniture isn’t it, but also so exciting! Hope you get some good rest tonight. We haven’t started washing anything except the liner to the second hand crib. I said to my Mum I must make sure I do it over the summer while we can hang lots outside and not wait until September which can be either really warm or cold!

LexiM · 13/06/2020 18:26

@AutumnBabyWinterMummy lovely pram too! It’s so exciting isn’t it 😍

MummyBearBoo · 13/06/2020 19:24

My DD soaked through Aldi nappies the best for her were pampers Premium protection I don't think baby dry are as good!
She also started off needing size 0 coz she was so dinky you'd never guess now coz she's the tallest girl in her pre-school class!

She had really sensitive skin and came in a rash in all the wipes we tried except Water Wipes so we used these you can bulk buy them from Amazon which is what we did
Johnson's were the worse!!

I'm gonna leave getting creams like metanium nappy cream and Lansinoh nipple cream until I know I need them!

I also found the Lansinoh breast pads the best too as they attach to the bra at more points! Xx
