Thread for us classed as mature pregnant ladies

Hi all. I wasn't wanted to hijack any threads on hear with specific questions, but wondered if anyone fancied a chat thread for us classed as mature mums to be? Anyone who feels they fit in that box are welcome to join.

I will start. 🌞

I am 41. I have a 10 year old ds and one mmc 3 yrs ago. New partner is reason for the gap.

I was very shocked when I found out as we had assumed that ship had sailed as no joy since mmc. Head was in that camp and was quite a shock to come out of it.

I am 13 weeks based on my scan later Friday. Awaiting NIPT results hopefully today or tomorrow. Been cautious after mmc but hard to not get so attached as the weeks go by.

My first purchase if all ok will be a pregnancy pillow.

Honestly I feel massive already. I am very overweight but was with ds and had a perfect fuss free pregnancy. This time I am so 🤢 and tired and feel just ill from 4pm onwards.

Instead of it easing up, last night I was still feeling 🤢 trying to sleep and was very uncomfortable due to feeling like my womb is massive.

Anyone else feeling like this? Goodness knows how I will be weeks from now. Eeek.

@passthemustard there must be many mixed emotions having been through what you have been through.
Have you seen that programme on bbc1 called Life and Birth? There's a lady in similar circumstances to you on there. It was a real tear jerker that episode!

@sunlight81 double congratulations to you. I'm secretly hoping for twins this time. Xx

footprintsintheslow · 25/05/2020 19:54

@sunlight81 I meant to ask were you alone at the scan today and if yes, how did you break the news to your partner?

AliasGrape · 25/05/2020 20:10

Hello everyone, and hello/congratulations to the new joiners (although do I sound a twat saying that given I’m new too?)

Wow sunlight what a surprise! I was a tiny bit hoping for but also dreading twins at my early scans - more likely as we conceived on clomid - but it didn’t happen. I know a mum who had surprise twins (when she already had 2 under 4) at 42 - they’re 8 now, gorgeous family!

Well we ordered a bedside crib thing today only to just receive a message from a friend of a friend free of charge. I think it’s too late to cancel the order, suppose we could return it. DH happy to stick with the new one as we’d have to buy a new mattress and stuff anyway, but it’s typical the offer comes on the very day I order.

In other news I’ve been struggling with really sore lady bits lately, apologies for tmi. It feels like I’ve been kicked there - spoke to gp who seems to think it’s just normal but it’s worse today after a long walk with DH (well, just over an hour, about as long as a walk gets for me right now) and I just had a big pathetic cry about it so DH has sent me for a lie down and has gone to the corner shop to get me an ice lolly - my main craving at the moment.

sunlight81 · 26/05/2020 06:33

@footprintsintheslow - we opted for a private scan at 8w. Window to the womb allow one other adult so we figured if it was bad news (eptopic etc) then at least we would be together.

Never in a million years did we think we would be having twins!!

@AntiHop

Welcome to the thread :) When writing up I saw that I had missed a hello outGrin Hope you are doing well!

Frazzlerock · 26/05/2020 09:04

Morning all,

Well I can't seem to keep up with everyone so I will try and keep up from here Grin

Happy Tuesday all! Hello to all the new ladies, lovely to have you here.

And TWINS! @sunlight81 How exciting! Shock

Re cravings, Nothing major for me, I did in the beginning. I went through several cravings, but now I just like hot sauce with everything, especially mashed potato!

@Sheera1 I also feel a bit non pregnant and we are similar stage. My bump seems to go up and down each day. It's not getting any bigger yet though. I am so jealous you felt your baby move I'm 14 weeks on Thursday and keep poking our little Thor (nickname given what he/she has been through!) but not getting anything back yet.
We are really keen to have another scan to check all is okay still but want to avoid those shop front style scanning places that are popping up all over the place and want to find somewhere a bit more medical if that makes sense. I'm going to try and see if we'll get anymore on the NHS given our past experience and haematoma. I can't wait until 20 weeks! I'll go nuts with worry.

Thanks for the list @stairgates. I couldn't see me on there so will add myself on. Have also had a go at putting in order but I'm crap at that sort of thing so it might well be wrong, haha.

Just a thought, I love how small this group is and have steered clear of the ante natal groups as they are HUGE and impossible to keep up with. I was wondering if we should have the title changed to "Thread for us classed as mature pregnant ladies due 2020"? and obviously keep hold of our lovely ladies due at the beginning of 2021 but shhhh Wink
Not sure if that's just a bit mean to keep more out but I'm already struggling to keep up. Just a thought and don't feel like you have to agree with me. I might just be a big meanie Grin

stairgates · 26/05/2020 09:07

No way Frazzle, how could I have missed you off!!, d'oh!!Grin

kwym about threads getting out of control, Im happy to have it for our Jan 2021 ladies and 2020 people.

stairgates · 26/05/2020 09:09

Frazzle, did you also date order it!!! Niice!!!Grin

Frazzlerock · 26/05/2020 09:09

Also I have put DC7 for me, even though this is only my 3rd live baby. People might think "Woah, she is already has 6 kids!" haha. Can you imagine... Shock

Frazzlerock · 26/05/2020 09:11

@stairgates I forgive you Wink

Yeah I should be working but fuck it. Putting dates in order is far more fun than my job Grin

Sheera1 · 26/05/2020 09:21

Well done ladies on making the list. Yes good idea to move to a new thread and keep people on here but not expand past Jan. We have a fab number.

Lol on working @Sheera1
Hellp to everyone new I haven't said hi to yet.

@AliasGrape ouch on lady bits. I had some horrible shooting pains the other week and asked kn here and someone called them "fanny daggers" 🙈😂. It went away but have been having some twinges. Hope it passes soon and I am with you on the ice lollies!!!

Does anyone know how to get a MAT B1 form? I need one to show HR but I've not got one yet Confused

sk283 · 26/05/2020 11:37

@Frazzlerock my midwife gave me mine.

footprintsintheslow · 26/05/2020 11:37

I think you get your matb1 from the midwife after a set date but not sure when that is

mlctobe · 26/05/2020 11:41

@Frazzlerock in my last pregnancy I got my MAT1B from the midwife at the 16 week appointment - but I heard these are over the phone at the moment so not sure what they are doing now. Do you have a community midwife appointment scheduled? X

Frazzlerock · 26/05/2020 11:45

Ah okay. My next midwife appointment is at 16 weeks and over the phone so I guess I will ask her then. Maybe she will post it Smile

WhatWouldPennyDo · 26/05/2020 12:09

@stairgates could you add me, please? I posted above you in the list but don’t seem to have made the cut on any subsequent ones Grin Thanks!

Great to see you all keeping well and
Wow @sunlight81 twins?!

AliasGrape · 26/05/2020 13:00

@Frazzlerock I only just got my MAT1B form at my 28 week appointment, but that’s because I forgot to ask at 25 weeks 🙄 I’m a supply teacher and not working at the moment so there wasn’t any rush, but if you have the number of your community midwives you could give them a call and see what they say? I was under the impression they didn’t give them till after 20 week scan but may have got that wrong or might just be my trust.

Had my growth scan this morning. All seemed ok but baby is measuring big! Head measured 34 weeks already and waist 33 (I’m 30+5). Leg length was more normal, and overall they estimated the weight around 4lbs 6 and put baby on 90th centile. I’ve no idea what that means really Grin They’re still big on inducing me but I’ve got another growth scan in 3 weeks so we’ll see what’s what then.

@Sheera1 I escaped the fanny daggers fortunately! This is more like a bruised feeling and worse when I move. Consultant said if it got worse or was affecting my mobility they’d refer me to physio but we’ll see.

Frazzlerock · 26/05/2020 13:06

Wow, you've got a big one in there. My first was 9lb 12 (2 weeks late) and second 8lb 5 (3 days early). Luckily I had c-sections. Good luck! Wink

I'd quite like to tell HR soon so I will call the midwives and ask them if I can the get my MAT B1 early. My company handbook says I have to show them it and I'm not sure I want to tell them before I show them in case they decide to alter their mat leave policy. I wouldn't put it past them.

AliasGrape · 26/05/2020 13:23

Definitely a fatty! Slightly regretting all the biscuits now, although the sonographer assured me it was genetics. DH is 6”2 and pretty stocky and I’m not exactly petite so it was always on the cards I suppose. 4lb 6 is already more than I weighed at birth but I was very premature.

I’ve been sorting through the piles of clothes passed on from a friend - there’s quite a few ‘tiny baby’ ones in there we can probably assume we won’t need 😂

Oh that sounds shit about your employers - hope they don’t mess you around!

Frazzlerock · 26/05/2020 13:59

Yes I think it is genetics. My ex was 6ft 1 so I think that is why my two were massive, but I'm quite petite so my pelvis didn't like it! I didn't know DS1 was going to be so big and had the most gorgeous 'going home' babygrow that I chose especially, but it didn't fit him so my ex had to go home and get more clothes!

My DP is 6ft2 or 3 so I'm betting on another big one Grin

Viennoise · 26/05/2020 18:50

Hello! 👋 I hope it’s not too late to join! I’m another January due date, I think 21.01.21 but don’t have an appointment to see a doctor til next Tuesday so we’ll have to wait and see. I’m 38 and this will be my first baby. It still feels a little strange that this is actually happening. I swing between wanting to shout it from the rooftops and enjoying the secret my very precious cargo. I look forward to being on this journey with you all!

footprintsintheslow · 26/05/2020 19:18

@AliasGrape I'm a teacher too.
Also when I was at my last scan I saw a poster for a study for women who are told they are having a big baby. Maybe its something for you to ask about or google? If I see a poster next time I'll send a photo.

I'd love to be part of a study as statistics show better outcomes for women who are part of research groups. Also I think it would be really interesting.

@Viennoise I'm so glad I have a January partner. I'm due on the 16th according to nhs website.
There's also a thread on MN for us due in January.

AliasGrape · 26/05/2020 21:00

@footprintsintheslow I saw that poster today! Or a similar one anyway. It was in the loo and I was concentrating on weeing into my little pot at the time - wish I’d taken the details!
