Hi all. I wasn't wanted to hijack any threads on hear with specific questions, but wondered if anyone fancied a chat thread for us classed as mature mums to be? Anyone who feels they fit in that box are welcome to join.

I will start. 🌞

I am 41. I have a 10 year old ds and one mmc 3 yrs ago. New partner is reason for the gap.

I was very shocked when I found out as we had assumed that ship had sailed as no joy since mmc. Head was in that camp and was quite a shock to come out of it.

I am 13 weeks based on my scan later Friday. Awaiting NIPT results hopefully today or tomorrow. Been cautious after mmc but hard to not get so attached as the weeks go by.

My first purchase if all ok will be a pregnancy pillow.

Honestly I feel massive already. I am very overweight but was with ds and had a perfect fuss free pregnancy. This time I am so 🤢 and tired and feel just ill from 4pm onwards.

Instead of it easing up, last night I was still feeling 🤢 trying to sleep and was very uncomfortable due to feeling like my womb is massive.

Anyone else feeling like this? Goodness knows how I will be weeks from now. Eeek.

Good luck @Dia12 @Kelpie123 tomorrow. I have a scan Tuesday so fingers crossed for all of us and anyone else this week.

Kelpie123 · 28/06/2020 12:09

@footprintsintheslow fingers crossed for Tuesday - is it 12wk scan for you?

And yes to echo footprint good luck to everyone this week, take it one day at a time it’s all we can do Smile

Dia12 · 28/06/2020 12:12

Thank you both - fingers crossed for everyone having scans this week.

I'm suspiciously feeling like my old self again today! Feel like I've got loads of energy.....shame the weather is so pants.

Sheera1 · 28/06/2020 12:41

Dia will be thinking if you and Kellie at your scans tomorrow. The fear and anxiety is so real. I really almost puked on the way to my 12 week one. I can't ever see anything other than a head in the scans so have this big breath held till the sonographer says all ok.

I am 19 weeks now and have relaxed a little. Will be shitting myself at my 20 week scan which has felt yonks away and is now only a week on Friday. I have found the NHS scans really quite unfriendly tbh. Not looking forward to it.

I will be checking, but when my midwife called at I think it was 18 weeks or 16 weeks (my brain is fried) she said still no partner allowed. I am in Scotland and we are stricter than England. I can't see it changing for my scan. I want to be able to video it for DP but I am expected them to say no. I was allowed to take a video at the end of 12 week scan when they put a clip on a loop but it was really awkward and I want DP to be able to see the heart chambers etc. Tough times.

On the other hand although I want DP with me for his benefit and support for me, I do like the idea that it means there is not double the number of people in and out the wards etc so I get it esp as we have lowered immune systems and there is wee preemie babies in the wards there too. The thought of transmission from a door handle to a teeny baby would just be awful.

@onlyreadingneverposting8 are you still being sick? Is it easing up at all? I have found randomly this week I have nausea back. I am eating less as get really full and stay bloated and uncomfy for hours. I had a bottle of nosecco and against my better judgement a piece of garlic bread st dinner and at 4 in the morning I still was full and bloated and heartburn. The joys!

Although our prenatal clinic is in a separate building to the both center etc they still don’t allow partners. Had 20, 28, 32 and 34 w scan a as ms partner wasn’t allowed, having another scan on wed and don’t think they will let him come in..and agree , nhs scans are not great and tgg bfeycridmt allow me to take a video. We booked a 20w private scan too so my husband could come too. However you can email your hospital and ask them for all your scan files and they will have to email it to you (they have 1m to do so - GDPR).

onlyreadingneverposting8 · 28/06/2020 15:20

Hi @Sheera1 sickness a bit better (I've been sick twice this week) but nausea not really! I still feel constantly exhausted too - anyone else feeling exhausted?? I was quite calm last week but this week I'm not at all.

Sheera1 · 28/06/2020 15:43

With you on the tiredness. Apart from a pee wake up and need to go I have had tons of sleep and still knackered in the mornings.

Glad sickness is a bit better. I am feeling so 🤢today. Woers it has resorted after a few weeks feeling fine. Finding strong foods a no no again. I had quiche for lunch and the onion is all I can taste hours later. 🤢

onlyreadingneverposting8 · 28/06/2020 16:34

Oh yes...onion is a complete no no when I'm pregnant and can only manage a little when not now! Basically I can't eat anything with any flavour 🙄

footprintsintheslow · 28/06/2020 18:38

@Kelpie123 I'll be 11+3 weeks at the scan and then my12 week scan is 8 days later. This is a scan at the early pregnancy unit that I've requested. I've had a couple of losses so I'm trying to be very proactive at saying what I want in this pregnancy which is most unlike me.

LJEva · 28/06/2020 19:24

When did everyone feel movement with their babies... I’m 14+4 and keenly noticing every stomach gurgle 😂

Kelpie123 · 28/06/2020 19:32

Good for you @footprintsintheslow I am the same this time and I’ve had 2 reassurance scans so far. They reassured me that day but that’s about it Blush I think as others have said suffering a loss really takes the joy out of many aspects of being pregnant.

Kelpie123 · 28/06/2020 19:34

@LJEva haha yeah I convinced myself I could see the heart beating the other morning before my husband pointed out it’s my own heart beat moving my tummy Blush

Countingblessings · 28/06/2020 19:44

All the best for scans this week and next! I also have a scan on Tuesday. It's basically a re-run of my 12 week scan since they didn't get the measurements they needed. I'm a mix of scan anxiety and wanting to see the baby again. It might actually sink in then that I'm pregnant. Still feel in complete denial!

I feel my energy is coming back but still hit with nausea and exhaustion. Get one or two good days and then I feel rubbish again. Today has been a rubbish day so I'm planning to be in bed at the same time as my 3 year old! Hoping the good days become more frequent. Hope everyone has a good week ahead x

LJEva · 28/06/2020 19:53
@LJEva haha yeah I convinced myself I could see the heart beating the other morning before my husband pointed out it’s my own heart beat moving my tummy Blush
Haha 😂 that’s the sort of thing I’d do!

Realladymarmalade · 28/06/2020 22:15

Welcome kelpie and yes you have found your tribe ! Absolutely feel so reassured and supported by you lovely lot .. when I get the age/fear but I find this is a good wee space!

Good luck to those with scans tomorrow. Fingers crossed you can take videos.

I'm glad to see its not just me on the magnums though the weather has turned to shit now. I've spent hours trying to clean house today and getting frustrated that I can barely reach the floor. I feel guilty cos my poor kids are on the receiving end of my hormotional state !

I'm just trying to calculate whether I van take 5 weeks off before baby and just power thru the work fir the next 3 weeks. I feel so guilty that my kids 'holiday' thus far are to be shunted around between their granny and their dad.

Has anyone thought of names ? Hit me !
I'm torn between Griogair (Gregor), and Zachary. But today I have a thing for Milo and Lachlan. But of all of these I like Zachary the most. It works well I think with his brother James and his sister Aoife . (Further random Irish name choices have been vetoed) ..

PregnantPorcupine · 29/06/2020 08:18

Morning all.

Lots of good luck and calming thoughts to those with scans today Flowers It seems a lot of us have scans this week - my 36 week positioning check is on Wednesday morning.. Hoping they also have a look at the size of the baby and the placenta (if that's something they can do Confused) as this will be my first scan since 20 weeks. No idea if that's protocol though Confused

@Realladymarmalade I love Griogair/Gregor and really like Zachary too Smile We are, I think, leaning towards Cora, although we're bad at making decisions and keep having doubts.. Neither of us has watched EastEnders or Downton and I worry that I don't fully appreciate the cultural associations that other people will have to the name.. (I also haven't read Last of the Mohicans so should probably do that sharpish!)

fool11 · 29/06/2020 09:30

Good luck with the scans this week.

@Realladymarmalade i really like Zachary, our friends have a boy Zachary and always liked it. We haven't decided on a name yet, my 5y old has a big list (depends on what program she watches - like George (Peppa pig), Thomas, some school friends etc). I can barely 'roll around' now and also feel very guilty that i don't spend much time with my DD, she is off school becuase of me, but i'm still working and exhausted by the end of the day. I might have a week off before the baby is born..

I also have a 36w scan on Wed morning @PregnantPorcupine, hope all is well. I had a growth scan at 28, 32,34 and normally they do check the size of the baby - measure the head, stomach, femur (leg?), heart beat and they check the flow rate between placenta and baby..it's usually very quick..and unfortunately i didn't get to see the baby at all during these scans as he is all the way down, face turned away so couldnt even get to see him or get a picture for my dd and husband (but my consultant is very rude and not friendly at all)..will see what happens this Wed. Are you planning to deliver the baby at 40w or earlier?

PregnantPorcupine · 29/06/2020 10:17

@fool11 ah, good luck for yours too then! I'm hoping just to let her come when she comes however when the midwife checked a few weeks ago she was breech which might throw a spanner in the works. How about you?

fool11 · 29/06/2020 10:53

My consultant wants him out by w38/39, as i'm 45 and my first was born small, so they are worried placenta might not work properly, had a sudden drop in growth few weeks ago, so really hope the scan on Wed will be ok and can try a sweep at 39w (worked with my first), really don't want to be induced. Considering a c section too, as if i had to be induced, i read that 1 in 3 will end up in emergency c section..would prob prefer to have a planned c section not an emergency one if i have to..but my first choice would be have a sweep and hope it all works ..with a help of epidural :) ...i'm really rubbish when it comes to pain.. I presume you will have to have a c section if your little one is still breech or would you let them try to turn her?

Dia12 · 29/06/2020 11:32

Hi everyone, just had scan and was dated 10w+4 which correlates with the dates from my reassurance scans. Baby was doing well wriggling around - so lovely to see and made it all so real. Sad that DH couldn't be there, still very strict here.
I'm still a few days behind what they need baby to be to take all the required measurements so will be back in again next week. So far, so good.

Good luck @Kelpie123, will be thinking of you and any one else having a scan today. X

Kelpie123 · 29/06/2020 11:40

@Dia12 that’s amazing news I’m so pleased I’ve been thinking about you this morning. It’s good you have another scan soon it’s not too long to wait and you get that reassurance again.

I just called hospital there and was told still no partners but they’re expecting updated guidance in the next few weeks from Scotgov. She said I could video at the end but I can’t even think that far ahead I’m so focused whether there’s actually going to be a baby still there Confused

Dia12 · 29/06/2020 11:45

Thank you @Kelpie123 - I know exactly what you mean, I really didn't have it together enough to make a video. It also was a very quick in/out scan - I imagine because there weren't able to take all the measurements.

Since then I have been shuttled off to get weight (put on 6kg 😱😱😱😱- this will be a whole other post) and blood pressure done. Now waiting to see dr and then I expect to wait again for bloods. This is going to be one looooong appointment. And I'm starving!

Take some water and snacks with you and something to read! Look forward to your update xx

AliasGrape · 29/06/2020 17:59

Hi everyone, this thread dropped of my ‘threads I’m on’ and I panicked I’d lost you!

Welcome @Dia12 - great news on the scan!
@Kelpie123 hope yours went well today too.

@Frazzlerock hope you’re feeling better and movements are all back to normal now.
It sounds hard worrying about your DP and what happened with your friend, plus pregnancy being such an emotional time! Yesterday I was crying like it was the end of the world, I can’t even really remember why now!

@footprintsintheslow and @Countingblessings good luck for tomorrow - what scan is this one? I’ve lost track of where we’re up to and how far everyone is - will try and get the list back.

@Sheera1 and @onlyreadingneverposting8 you made me laugh with your mention of onions. I was lucky with the sickness but my god the heartburn is killing me now! I can’t even look at an onion. I was desperate for a Chinese on Saturday, convinced DH ‘the baby needs one!’ My god did I regret it, basically had no sleep Saturday night and no amount of gaviscon in the world could make up for that Chinese! It has onions AND peppers - what was I thinking?

@Realladymarmalade I love Zachary and Lachlan. We don’t know what we’re having yet and even if we did we can’t agree on any names! I love Iris for a girl which DH has vetoed all along but said the other day he was coming round to! We like Elis and Charlie for a boy but don’t love either.

@PregnantPorcupine and @fool11 good luck with the growth scans. I have my 36 week one a week on Tuesday. I didn’t see my consultant last time as I had to change the day so just saw a midwife who was very nice. She couldn’t really help on whether I’d be allowed to be in the birth centre or whether I’d have to be induced or not. I’m sure my consultant will tell me that no I can’t and yes I do again. I’m just taking it from one scan to the next at the moment.

I’m cracking on with my clexane injections. (Actually I lied about the clexane it’s inhixa I’m on no idea the difference) and managing to do them myself now which I prefer. My dog likes to sit next to me and watch me with a very concerned expression on his face - goodness knows what he thinks is going on!

Today I’ve managed to finish the sorting and clearing in the bedroom we’ll be sleeping in with the baby so there’s now enough space to get the bedside crib up and I’ve emptied my rickety old chest of drawers ready to replace with one that has a bit more storage and also you can change the baby on top of. That’s coming in a few days. I still feel really gutted that we haven’t got a proper ‘nursery’ and can’t really due to lack of space and DH needing the other room for work for the foreseeable. I’ve a feeling this will be my only baby and feel a bit sad to have missed the ‘decorating the nursery’ cliche I was looking forward to. But that’s what you get in a tiny house. I’m slightly cheered up by the prospect that we may be able to move in a year or so - I didn’t think we’d need a 3rd bedroom really but if DH is going to keep working from home at least some of the time I really think we do. Unfortunately he needs quite a bit of desk space and equipment so I can’t just plonk him at the kitchen table with a laptop - no matter how many times I suggest it! Grin

Kelpie123 · 29/06/2020 19:11

Hi it went well Grin ... sorry I’m so late getting in touch I came home, ate and fell asleep. So I’m spot on according to Lmp date at 12+4 and due 7th Jan. the NT measurement (she took it 3 times) was 1.9 then 2.0 then 2.0. This wasn’t commented upon so I’ve no idea how normal it is. They took blood too not sure when I the get result I forgot to ask. I’m over the moon my wee baby was there and it feels more real now.

Thank you for all the well wishes today I really appreciate the support.

@Dia12 thanks for the tips I was in for an hour and a half and was glad I took snacks and magazine (I didn’t have a signal on phone to go online or message anyone - torture)

@AliasGrape I think when your baby comes you won’t care at all about the nursery as I think you’ll just want your baby close to you so much that a nursery wouldn’t get used that much. When you move you can decorate their room and you’ll know their wee personality at that point and it will probably mean more. Lots to look forward to Smile. There’s always the last resort of the garage or a hut for your DH to work from Wink

To all those having scans tomorrow I hope you get a good sleep tonight and update tomorrow quicker than I did today.

Clarkel1 · 29/06/2020 22:18

Hi all so has everyone on here or most of you lively ladies done the harmony tests etc? Now that I'm 12 weeks I'm thinking I would do if the nhs test comes back high risk, or is that too late I have my scan on the 6th July. Should I do the harmony? What's everyone's thoughts x
