Hi all. I wasn't wanted to hijack any threads on hear with specific questions, but wondered if anyone fancied a chat thread for us classed as mature mums to be? Anyone who feels they fit in that box are welcome to join.

I will start. 🌞

I am 41. I have a 10 year old ds and one mmc 3 yrs ago. New partner is reason for the gap.

I was very shocked when I found out as we had assumed that ship had sailed as no joy since mmc. Head was in that camp and was quite a shock to come out of it.

I am 13 weeks based on my scan later Friday. Awaiting NIPT results hopefully today or tomorrow. Been cautious after mmc but hard to not get so attached as the weeks go by.

My first purchase if all ok will be a pregnancy pillow.

Honestly I feel massive already. I am very overweight but was with ds and had a perfect fuss free pregnancy. This time I am so 🤢 and tired and feel just ill from 4pm onwards.

Instead of it easing up, last night I was still feeling 🤢 trying to sleep and was very uncomfortable due to feeling like my womb is massive.

Anyone else feeling like this? Goodness knows how I will be weeks from now. Eeek.

Also @Clarkel1, its any consolation, after the first bleed I just knew we'd lost the baby. Not just that something was not quite right. I knew the baby had completely gone. 100%. But I was wrong. So those feelings are entirely normal. I so hope you're wrong xx

onlyreadingneverposting8 · 18/06/2020 10:08

@Clarkel1 who scanned you at 6 & 8 weeks? If it was epu you should just be able to ring them back up and ask to be seen. I'm really lucky here as my hospital runs a 24/7 gyny A&E, which also acts as the epu. Basically you turn up at any time and they will assess you and treat as required.
As @AncientandPregnant says the midwife may refer you today and if not can you get a private scan. I think you should hold on to the fact that you've already had 2 lots of bleeding and all was still good. I had light bleeding in this pregnancy at 5 and 10 +2 weeks. Good luck xxx

Sheera1 · 18/06/2020 10:09

Clarke1 screw the midwife and call triage direct now. Explain you have pain and bleeding and they should tell you to go for a scan now. If they fob you off, insist. It doesn't matter that they scanned previously. They should take any bleeding seriously.

Lole Frazzle says, it could all be fine, but please don't sit worrying about it. Please call them now. That is what they are there for.

Sending much love and hugs. Call and let us know what is doing on and we will support. Xxxx

Really sorry you're going through this @Clarkel1. I hope everything works out Flowers

PregnantPorcupine · 18/06/2020 10:49

Welcome @Shroppy. I'm 38 and also expecting my first. Due in about 6 weeks (Shock) and still terrified!

Re baby monitors - I was thinking of waiting a while since the baby will presumably be with us constantly for the first few months. Is that silly though? Should we get one straight away? They are so expensive!

Clarkel1 · 18/06/2020 11:12

They seen me done all my booking in bloods etc and said due to covid and the fact that I've been seen twice they'll not scan again as the pregnant in the right place ! The bleeding has again stopped for now pain feels higher up than cramps so wondering if it's growing stretching pains but feel my breasts are less tender and I'm less nauseated! I am honestly going out my mind

PregnantPorcupine · 18/06/2020 11:22

@Clarkel1 ugh, really sorry to hear that Sad

Can you look into getting a private scan? I used Ultrasound Direct which were pretty cheap and have offices in most cities I think x

Frazzlerock · 18/06/2020 11:26

@Clarkel1 as Porcupine says, get a private scan ASAP. The cost will be worth it for your mental health x

fool11 · 18/06/2020 11:45

Sorry you are going through this @Clarkel1. Hope it will be a good news for you at the end. If you can, try to book a private scan. 💐

Sheera1 · 18/06/2020 11:47

Clarke1 I am actually astounded at this. Bleeding is always a cause for concern in pregnancy. There is no limit on how many scans they will do. You should not need to be paying privately for a scan when something is ot going as it should be. I am actually livid for you.

I would call triage and kick up a fuss tbh. It take minutes to scan. I can't believe they didn't send you straight to the scanning dept.

You have had cause to get scans earlier so what is the difference now. Things change in pregnancies so just because one scan was fine doesn't mean things still are.

I am not saying this to make you more worried but more that is how they should be dealing with it. Can DH call and give them a roasting? Call EPU/triage.

I am so sorry they have fobbed you off.

How many weeks are you again?

@onlyreadingneverposting8 This is one of my favourite baby stuff websites and look what I found.... gigil.com/collections/accessories/products/giraffe-toy-and-comforter-set

onlyreadingneverposting8 · 18/06/2020 12:46

@Clarkel1 sorry you've been dismissed by your midwife - that's bad care indeed. Glad you've managed to get a scan privately. Sending you love xxx

@Frazzlerock that is amazing! But I think the crochet one has a special something about to! Currently halfway through a little chunky cardi. It's the most complicated thing I've made to date - I only learnt to crochet making the blanket - so about 3 weeks ago!

Clarkel1 · 18/06/2020 14:16
