Hi all. I wasn't wanted to hijack any threads on hear with specific questions, but wondered if anyone fancied a chat thread for us classed as mature mums to be? Anyone who feels they fit in that box are welcome to join.

I will start. 🌞

I am 41. I have a 10 year old ds and one mmc 3 yrs ago. New partner is reason for the gap.

I was very shocked when I found out as we had assumed that ship had sailed as no joy since mmc. Head was in that camp and was quite a shock to come out of it.

I am 13 weeks based on my scan later Friday. Awaiting NIPT results hopefully today or tomorrow. Been cautious after mmc but hard to not get so attached as the weeks go by.

My first purchase if all ok will be a pregnancy pillow.

Honestly I feel massive already. I am very overweight but was with ds and had a perfect fuss free pregnancy. This time I am so 🤢 and tired and feel just ill from 4pm onwards.

Instead of it easing up, last night I was still feeling 🤢 trying to sleep and was very uncomfortable due to feeling like my womb is massive.

Anyone else feeling like this? Goodness knows how I will be weeks from now. Eeek.

Oh man! I posted a big long message earlier today and it hasn't posted lol. Can't even remember what I said now.

Think it was to Frazzle and yay on the scan and the Willy.

Clexane too so ouch and think I will be a wimp when I need to do it so understand. Ta for the tips with the ice pack though. Glad it is only from 28 weeks.

The pram looks gorge! Frazzle I ordered mine a few weeks ago mainly to cheer myself up and knew I could cancel if anything happened. It doesn't come till Sept so worth checking the one you want doesn't have a big delivery.
Hope the car seat come soon too. Eeek. It is kind of essential. X

I had loads more to add earlier but can't remember lol.

Love the croquet. I want that hat for me!

Oh also Clarke1 so pleased they moved your appointment. I would have been annoyed too. Esp as we have slightly higher risk and it cuts down the time for options if things are wrong or needing further tests.

Well someone's got to love them @onlyreadingneverposting8 😂

I love that stitch on your blanket. I think I'll have a go at that for the smaller one I'm planning to make.

Good top re pram @sheera1 I will give JL a call tomorrow and see what they suggest.

Ahh I think I literally just felt a little baby tap! Not felt that in about a week or so!

This is the hat I made on Sunday. I forgot how dull it is making pom poms but I think it was worth the effort. I have discovered I really love crochet. I never thought I'd hear myself say that! I guess indie clubs and bands are behind me these days 😂

Oh and @stairgates I asked DP about Seth just now and he likes it 😁 He looked up the meaning and it's something like a replacement child for Adam and Eve's kids (I'm an atheist so can't remember their names) which is quite poignant given our experience. But feel weird about the 'replacement' part. I don't really see this baby as a replacement, but still poignant nonetheless.

AliasGrape · 17/06/2020 18:12

I really want a crochet giraffe for this baby now! Mine will have to be bought via Etsy or the like as I have zero creative ability of any kind. Very impressed with the blanket and the hats @onlyreadingneverposting8 and @Frazzlerock

I’m having a slight sick feeling that I’ve spent
a few hundred quid in the last 3 days. Massive amazon order to stock hospital bag as I’m going to slowly start putting that together now, so ordered maternity pads, nursing pads, giant disposable knickers, nipple cream, nipple shields, an Evian facial
spritz thing, extra long phone charger, ‘relaxing’ room/pillow spray, then things like nappy cream, water wipes etc etc. Then I’ve been scouring the Internet for some vests,
bodysuits and socks in newborn or 0-3 sizes. I’ll warn you ladies there’s fuck all out there so if you want some new stuff start looking now! I’ve managed to cobble together a few bits, and have had some stuff passed on from one friend and a relative (the relatives stuff is all the pinkest, frilliest, most stereotypically girly stuff you’ve ever seen so we’ll probably have a boy now! But I’ll still use some of it). I’ve ordered a room thermometer, bath thermometer, baby bath (am told this could be a waste of money but it was under a tenner and I couldn’t work out what else I’d do to bath baby so thought sod it), blankets, cot sheets, muslin squares, changing mat x2, and god knows what else. Plus a really sweet and soft looking rabbit teddy because the other stuff is boring and I wanted something cute!

We need a baby monitor now and for the car seat to arrive, then I’m hoping that’s it. Plus we need to sort the two bedrooms out and figure out where to put this baby and all its various belongings in two rooms that are currently rammed full of other crap and being used for home office for the foreseeable too. DH is kind of a hoarder and my gentle suggestions have gone on death ears so I lost it a bit at the weekend and to be fair we’ve managed to get rid of a fair amount of stuff since then but there’s a long way to go!

footprintsintheslow · 17/06/2020 18:47

@Frazzle did you use a pattern for the hat or a youtube video? I absolutely love it.
As for pompoms, have you ever used a pompom maker? The size you made there would take under a minute!

Shroppy · 17/06/2020 19:07

Hi everyone,
I'm 39 with my first, just found this thread so hope you don't mind me joining in, I haven't caught up with all the pages yet but already found some useful posts from you all. I'm going to be 12 weeks on Friday and still in the slightly terrified and bewildered stage at the moment...hoping that will ease in a few weeks and I can get excited!

footprintsintheslow · 17/06/2020 19:53

@Shroppy welcome along and congratulations.
Do you have other children at all?

footprintsintheslow · 17/06/2020 19:55

Just reread it's your first! @Shroppy sorry.

Frazzlerock · 17/06/2020 20:04

The hat is from a beginners book. Have attached photo of instructions.

Oooh! No never knew you could buy a pom pom maker! I will have a look 😊

Hi @Shroppy FWIW that bewildered feeling doesn't go away, at least not where I am at 17 weeks! My DC are 11 and 15 and I'm still bewildered 😂

footprintsintheslow · 17/06/2020 20:21

@Frazzlerock I'm definitely going to make one of those hats. Thanks for the pattern.

Here's a link to the pompom makers I like. There are other sorts but I find them a bit flimsy.

TaleeMall 4 Sizes (small to large) of Pom Pom Maker Set for DIY Pompom Kit Fluff Ball Weaver Maker https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B01M9BZZ37/ref=cmswwrcppapiii_MZM6Eb3TH9YNJ

Sheera1 · 17/06/2020 21:21

@aliasgrape loving all the purchases.

Nothing like a shopping spree to cheer us up.

What baby monitor is everyone getting. I had an angelcare last time and liked it. I have seen a new version which is movement and video which I like but they seem to have a million models and the reviews are wide ranging. I am a bit bewildered.

I deffo want a sensor one from them or babysense or similar though.

Happy for suggestions/recommendations.

@Shroppy welcome to the group and congratulations! 🎉 how are you feeling? And when are you due?

@AliasGrape I feel your pain! I'm shopping online for bits literally daily 😂🙈 I managed to find a load of white vests in a range of sizes on Nutmeg by Morrison's. They seemed to have a good range available in stock so might be worth trying there. Everywhere else is a nightmare to get hold of any small sizes 🙄 xx

Shroppy · 17/06/2020 22:57

Thanks @footprintsintheslow and @Frazzlerock (although scaring me slightly 😉) and @LittleMiss7 I'm due 30th December according to a private scan the NHS scan is on Friday, be interesting to see if they get the same date. I've been fairly lucky with symptoms from what I hear so fingers crossed it stays that way. Hope you're all okay too xx

onlyreadingneverposting8 · 18/06/2020 06:26

@AliasGrape how did the clexane go last night? And geez don't feel guilty for a spend - we totally deserve it!!!

@Frazzlerock love love love the hat!!! So cute!! And I'm pretty sure I had movement this evening too! 😊😊

@Shroppy congratulations and welcome!

AliasGrape · 18/06/2020 09:02

@Sheera1 Im a bit bewildered by baby monitors too, not really sure what we’re looking for. I’ve looked at the angel care ones as well.

@LittleMiss7 That’s one I’ve not tried! Thank you, I’ll have a look. I wonder why there’s such a lack of small sizes? I found some stuff on matalan. I have some basic white vests on M&S to email me when back in stock, I’ve had the email twice now and gone on within half an hour of receiving it only for them to be out of stock again.

@onlyreadingneverposting8 DH did it last night. It stung more than the nurse doing it! But we didn’t have time to do ice pack as he had to go out unexpectedly and I wanted it done before. Tonight I’m definitely getting the ice pack out. It was fine though, it’s weird it doesn’t bother me that much I just couldn’t get my own hand to push it in! Maybe when he’s done a couple more I’ll have another go and get over myself.

@Shroppy congratulations

fool11 · 18/06/2020 09:19

really cute hat @Frazzlerock..love the pompoms. I admire you ladies, that you have energy to do some knitting..i'm passing out on sofa every day after i put my 5y old to bed..still working full time (from home) 7.30 - 5, so exhausted by the end of the day. Find it harder to work from home than being in the office..people just keep calling and needing things..

we are lucky that we can actually re-use most of the stuff we kept after my DD..we bought lots of colourful stuff (i'm not keen on pink) so we can use for him too..just needed a new baby car seat and need to sort out some bottles/formula for feeding. And i need to pack my hospital bag.

@Shroppy welcome and congratulations.

Clarkel1 · 18/06/2020 09:21

Hi everyone so I've started bleeding slightly again when wiping my sickness etc stopped at weekend and thought just might be the fact I'm nearly 11 weeks I have stomach pains and cramping and about to leave for my first appointment with midwife for the bloods etc I wish it was the scan as I'm now out my mind with worry, and I know they'll not be able to do a thing today and tell me just to wait till my scan in two and a half weeks. I feel something isn't right 😞 I've had bleeding at 6 and 8 weeks both times I was scanned and heartbeat measurements all fine I honestly do not know what's going on 😞

AncientandPregnant · 18/06/2020 09:26

@Clarkel1 I am so sorry you are going through this stress. Could you book a private scan this pm or tomorrow to put your mind at rest. Also the midwife may agree to refer you to EPU she’s knows how anxious you are. Thinking of you x

Frazzlerock · 18/06/2020 09:33

@AliasGrape well done on the clexane. Maybe just get DH to do it everytime for you. After all, it's his baby too! Wink

To the ones looking at baby monitors, I came across this one yesterday, just to add to the confusion Grin www.snuza.com/

I have several on my list that I've seen mentioned on MN while browsing the pregnancy topic:
Kodak Cherish
Google Nest - though I can't seem to find that one online
Owlet monitor duo - measures oxygen levels
and that Snuza Hero I linked above
BT 6000 monitor
Angelcare video monitor

I'm yet to check reviews for any of them but they might be worth considering Smile

@fool11 I'm quite lucky in that my work is pretty quiet. I work FT too but I work as tech support for an online file sharing platform and we don't get a huge amount of tickets coming in so I crochet in between emails and online chats. It passes the time Grin

Frazzlerock · 18/06/2020 09:36

@Clarkel1 I'm sorry this is so stressful for you. I've been there with my haematoma. Do you think you could have one too maybe? Considering you've had bleeding already and been scanned and baby fine?
I bled terribly at 7 weeks, then again at about 9 weeks and 14 weeks (IIRC) huge floods with massive clots and baby was fine. Did they look for anything like that?

AncientandPregnant · 18/06/2020 09:45

@fool11 I am with you on working full time and then collapsing. I am currently working mainly from home but on Thursdays I am in the office so I am travelling in now and will be there until 9pm. It’s a high pressure environment where I work and some of it is broadcast which is why I am going in. I feel so rough today and have nightmares of either fainting or vomiting in from of everyone and even worse on camera. I have been thinking about it all night and am now in a right state.

Clarkel1 · 18/06/2020 09:54

@Frazzlerock they didn't see any reason at the 6 or 8 week scan that caused concern just said baby was growing nicely did you have cramps also? I'm sitting here in this waiting area in tears I just feel somethings not right 😞

Frazzlerock · 18/06/2020 10:05

I didn't have cramps really, but I did feel niggles when I was bleeding or just before a big bleed, like a very very light periody feeling, but not really cramps. Hard to describe really. I so hope everything is okay. The wait is horrendous Sad Please let us know how you get on xx
