Hi all. I wasn't wanted to hijack any threads on hear with specific questions, but wondered if anyone fancied a chat thread for us classed as mature mums to be? Anyone who feels they fit in that box are welcome to join.

I will start. 🌞

I am 41. I have a 10 year old ds and one mmc 3 yrs ago. New partner is reason for the gap.

I was very shocked when I found out as we had assumed that ship had sailed as no joy since mmc. Head was in that camp and was quite a shock to come out of it.

I am 13 weeks based on my scan later Friday. Awaiting NIPT results hopefully today or tomorrow. Been cautious after mmc but hard to not get so attached as the weeks go by.

My first purchase if all ok will be a pregnancy pillow.

Honestly I feel massive already. I am very overweight but was with ds and had a perfect fuss free pregnancy. This time I am so 🤢 and tired and feel just ill from 4pm onwards.

Instead of it easing up, last night I was still feeling 🤢 trying to sleep and was very uncomfortable due to feeling like my womb is massive.

Anyone else feeling like this? Goodness knows how I will be weeks from now. Eeek.

haha @stairgates I guess you've run out of names by now Grin I'm not going to let the DC have a say in the name choice, that way I only have DP to contend with! My 2 DC were easy to name. 1st DC was named after his dad's father who died when he was very young and DC2 was just easy. We both just liked the name amazingly. Didn't even consider any others really.

Seth is a great name isn't it. Traditional but not common (at least not where I live) and kinda cool? My only issue is people who can't pronounce their 'th' and end up calling him 'Seff'... I rediscovered it while watching that program where they go back in time and have to live in past decades - can't remember that its called. Youngest child was called Seth and I thought 'ooohhh.....'

onlyreadingneverposting8 · 17/06/2020 09:03

@Frazzlerock good luck today! @stairgates great to hear I haven't got the biggest number of children! 🤣 Our kids will get no say in the name - we have a dog called "smally" thanks to the 3 yr old and over the years suggested names have been "Princess Peach" & "Percy the train". Can only hope they have better ideas for their own offspring! 🤣

Frazzlerock · 17/06/2020 09:06

Haha "Percy the train" is a great choice Grin

Clarkel1 · 17/06/2020 09:21

Ladies can I just ask what the weeks are your supposed to get your screening done my scan isn't until 10th July and I'll be 14 weeks then

stairgates · 17/06/2020 09:34

I think 14 weeks is just on the limit Clarkel, would you be able to ring the U/S office and say you cant make the appointment and see if they have anything earlier for your peace of mind? :)

stairgates · 17/06/2020 09:43

Onlyreading, our youngest will be putting Sonic in the hat if it comes to it! I hope baby doesnt pick that oneGrin It could be worse, last week it was Godzilla! Grin Peach! You could use Peach, Im having serious wish it was a pink one pangsGrin Or her nickname could be Peach, oh dont! Cuteness overload!

I have sent Seth over to DD/21 she is quite impressed with it :), I think I will now send it to DS/17 who works with my DH and get his reaction and he can mention it to DH to get a reactionGrin I wish we had a thumbs up emoji?:) Frazzle, we are down in Hampshire, incase we both go with Seth just making sure Im not name stealingGrin

Clarkel1 · 17/06/2020 09:50

I have called and they have brought it forward so I'll be 13 weeks so that's better 👍 just so stressed today as my sickness has halted just all of a sudden over the last two days feel less pregnant I don't know if it's just my mind doing overtime but I'm panicking something isn't right as I thought it halts about 12 weeks and I'm only 10+3 the anxiety of pregnancy is awful 😞

Frazzlerock · 17/06/2020 09:58

@stairgates don't worry about name stealing! My 2 DC have the most popular boys names on earth so I am most definitely not precious! Glad to hear your 21 year old gave Seth a thumbs up. Must be a cool name then 😁 I'm liking it even more now!

Frazzlerock · 17/06/2020 09:59

I'm glad they brought your scan forward @Clarkel1 The anxiety is ridiculous isn't it. Maybe get a private scan in for peace of mind?
I'm in the waiting room now and my tummy is doing somersaults!

Clarkel1 · 17/06/2020 10:27

@Frazzlerock good luck xx

LittleMiss7 · 17/06/2020 10:41

Good luck for today @Frazzlerock 😘 pre scan nerves seem to be the norm! X

LittleMiss7 · 17/06/2020 10:42

@Clarkel1 glad you were able to get your scan brought forward. 12 weeks is long enough to wait as it is xx

PregnantPorcupine · 17/06/2020 10:54

Blimey - so many posts! I can't keep up!

Will write a proper post later. In the meantime -good luck @Frazzlerock! And @Liese27 - I'm thinking of you and wishing you all the best for Friday Flowers

AliasGrape · 17/06/2020 11:25

@onlyreadingneverposting8 thank you for the clexane advice, I have an ice pack in the freezer now ready for the next attempt.

@Frazzlerock hope the scan went well xx

Our pram is being delivered today hopefully, I’m excited

Frazzlerock · 17/06/2020 11:37

Another successful scan in the bag! And the haematoma has gone - whoop! Placenta also moved up and it was quite low at my last scan. She said its nice and high.

RMC consultant rang me too. She said I should have the flu jab, even though I had one in Nov/Dec in my last preg. She said its best given the current issues. I was like - but the flu jab doesn't cover Covid! She said yes but there are lots of flus about anyway so I should have it done.
She said I'll be scanned at 28 weeks, 32 and 36 (I think that's what she said) due to my age. And then she asked if I would be having anymore children. I said absolutely not putting myself through this again! She said as I've had so many MC and it'll be my 3rd c-section and because of my age she spoke to me about being sterilised when I have my section. It's certainly something to consider.

Also, I swear I saw a WILLY! I had a student sonographer and she zoomed into the legs and I am so sure I saw one in between the legs. I haven't mentioned it to DP yet.

@AliasGrape at what stage did you order your pram? I have no idea how long these things take

onlyreadingneverposting8 · 17/06/2020 13:17

Great news @Frazzlerock! I'll most likely have some extra scans too due to some small babies. But each consultant seems to have different views and ideas so...!
When I was expecting my 3rd I decided we would have a surprise having found out with numbers 1&2. Anyhow - 20 weeks scan and he was displaying everything for all to see so bang went the surprise! 🤣🤣

AliasGrape · 17/06/2020 14:28

@Frazzlerock that’s great news!

I’m in awe of people being able to make out willies and whatever else on scans. I always feel like what’s on screen is like a magic eye picture or something and I can’t work out what I’m looking at. It’s clearer once I have the still picture but it’s all a bit overwhelming I think in the actual scan room and I feel a bit like Rachel from friends going ‘ahh, oh yeah, I see it’ but really I’m just seeing lots of white shapes. The last pic we got, at 30 weeks, was a pretty clear face though and everyone else was like ‘what am I looking at?’ whereas it was really obvious to me.

Frazzle I ordered my pram about 5 weeks ago so at 28/29 weeks ish? I think that’s pretty late, from threads I’ve read on here most people seem to get sorted a bit sooner. It was a full travel system with car seat plus a few other bits chucked into the package. The ‘free’ extra bits turned up pretty quickly, pram was due last week but didn’t arrive and my emails chasing it just got automated responses saying to be patient because of the ‘current situation’. I got an email this morning saying it should arrive today though and it has, but still no car seat and base. According to the email there’s been limits to what can come in / shipping disrupted due to pandemic but they promise it will be here by end of June so fingers crossed it is (and baby isn’t super early).

I think with everything going on I’d order earlier if possible. Of course shops are opening again and so it’s possible to buy direct from store again, and actually get to try them out a bit. I just wasn’t sure what the situation would be with that so we ordered without having seen the model we chose in the flesh, but luckily there’s plenty of online reviews and YouTube demos etc and I’m really happy with the pram now it’s here. I was able to assemble it super easily, I’ve just got as far as assembling with the carrycot for now - it converts into a stroller too from 6 months ish so I’ll have to have a look at how to do that but it seemed a faff so I didn’t bother with that bit today. I’ve practiced putting it up and down which seems easy enough and I can just about squeeze the collapsed base into the boot of my mini (though not sure where carrycot would go - think it’ll only go in the car when I’m using the car seat option). I’m very excited with it and was very tempted to stick the dog in and take it for a test drive!

Oh that's nice @AliasGrape !

I think we'll be getting ours from John Lewis and we are pretty much decided on the pram as it is a brand I trust and have used many times.
DP is still very nervous about me being out and about shopping so not sure when we'll get a chance to test drive it. The only issue I think will be is getting it through the front door - we have a porch so getting into into the house over two door steps will be interesting.

I just don't know the availability so maybe I should ring JL to find out what they suggest. I would ideally like to book a session to choose our baby essentials but no idea if they're doing that and when.

Go on, take the dog out for a test drive! and send us a pic Grin

onlyreadingneverposting8 · 17/06/2020 15:22

Super smart Pram @AliasGrape!

Said I'd post a pic of my crochet blanket when I finished it! I've crocheted a hat too to go with it. (Mainly because I have enough yarn for quads! 🤣🤣🤣)

awww those are gorgeous @onlyreadingneverposting8

I made a hat too at the weekend. Blanket still going. Should be done by the time baby is 18!

Frazzlerock · 17/06/2020 15:56

Also DP bought me this book for my birthday. I really love the giraffe 🧡 I'm going to have a go when I've ordered the right colours. Could do with a trip to Hobbycraft 😁

Omg @Frazzlerock that book looks amazing! I love giraffes they're my favourite animal along with Gorillas and Stump-tailed Macaques.

Frazzlerock · 17/06/2020 16:06

haha I had to google the Stump Tailed Macaque. Interesting choice... Grin I'm with you on the giraffe though. They are beautiful creatures, their eyes and eyelashes are to die for

footprintsintheslow · 17/06/2020 16:14

@onlyreadingneverposting8 love the crochet. What stitch is the blanket. Mine has come to a standstill but maybe I'll get it back out.

@Frazzlerock that book looks good. Someone told me once that it's good for newborns to have something to hold like a toy arm or leg as it reminds them of holding onto the umbilical cord in the womb. Not sure how anyone would know that but it seems like it makes sense to me.

onlyreadingneverposting8 · 17/06/2020 16:49

@Frazzlerock I have an adopted one at Monkey World in Dorset ☺️ I love them because they're so ugly 🤣.

@footprintsintheslow I think the stitch is technically a basket weave but it's made by using c2c (corner to corner) crochet - I just followed a YouTube tutorial. This is the one I followed
