Hi all. I wasn't wanted to hijack any threads on hear with specific questions, but wondered if anyone fancied a chat thread for us classed as mature mums to be? Anyone who feels they fit in that box are welcome to join.

I will start. 🌞

I am 41. I have a 10 year old ds and one mmc 3 yrs ago. New partner is reason for the gap.

I was very shocked when I found out as we had assumed that ship had sailed as no joy since mmc. Head was in that camp and was quite a shock to come out of it.

I am 13 weeks based on my scan later Friday. Awaiting NIPT results hopefully today or tomorrow. Been cautious after mmc but hard to not get so attached as the weeks go by.

My first purchase if all ok will be a pregnancy pillow.

Honestly I feel massive already. I am very overweight but was with ds and had a perfect fuss free pregnancy. This time I am so 🤢 and tired and feel just ill from 4pm onwards.

Instead of it easing up, last night I was still feeling 🤢 trying to sleep and was very uncomfortable due to feeling like my womb is massive.

Anyone else feeling like this? Goodness knows how I will be weeks from now. Eeek.

Does anyone get cramping... a lot? Should be 10 weeks tommorrow and no matter what I keep thinking something's happened even thought I've been scanned and all fine twice after two bleeds... feel I'm worrying that somethings happened inside and I can't shake it x

Updated my age and put you in time order LittleMiss :)

Sheera1 · 15/06/2020 12:32

@clarkel1 how are you feeling today? I did get cramping earlier on and some really sharp sore shooting pains. They all seemed to be things stretching and growing, but you could call triage and ask for a scan. Esp if you have pain on one side they will scan you. I did at about 9 weeks and all was fine but was so reassuring to see that heartbeat. X

Hi ladies, hope you are all well..hello to all newbies, although i'm a newbie myself..haven't been here for a few days, was not feeling well. On thursday my baby decided, i think, to twist and turn, to the point i screamed, it was so painful, and then he went on full 10h kicking marathon..he normally kicks in the morning, evening, after i've eaten..then goes to sleep but this was from lunchtime till night, was more like tremors than kicks, or very angry kicks, really out of his 'character'..i couldn't even sit, googled it and they said that excessive movement might be a sign of distress.. Called the labour, triage next morning and spent 3h in the hospital..and of course he stopped..went back to his usual..but whilst on machine they said there is lots of activity and i'm having lots of contractions, which i didn't feel actually so had to do a test for preterm labour, which luckily was negative. And also asked me to do the covid test..i was exhausted by the time i got home but luckily all is fine (must be the 33w thing..)... I'm having another scan this week, hopefully the baby's grown a bit, but did't put on much weight in last two weeks..

I've added myself to the list, hope i've done it correctly.

@fool11 I am a couple of days of 33 weeks and this little has been doing very similar :) ont he move constantly, stretching and then having litle all over wobbling moments, I think they have found their feet! Its good they checked you for pre term labor, that must have been a bit startling to hear! How did they do the covid testout of interest?

fool11 · 15/06/2020 14:21

I was a bit surprised @stairgates..(i'm 34w on Wed) I didn't feel any contractions and some were really strong and very regular according to the machine..i think it was just baby moving around, but not sure as he was pretty quiet whilst still in hospital, attached to a monitor to the point i felt really silly...but they were all nice. I'm sure he twisted and then was pushing and kicking his little legs around my belly button area, slightly to the left, but the pain down below was really horrid, shooting pain. Whilst i was there they said that they are offering a covid test to all mothers/mothers to be, i think the head of the department is doing a study/research, they asked if i'm ok to have it, so i said yes, been self isolating for 3m, will be surprised if it will come back positive..they did a swab test and also a blood test for antibodies, still waiting for the results.

Sheera1 · 15/06/2020 17:03

What are peeps bumps like at around 17 weeks (or what were they like if you remember)?

I am overweight anyway and always had a sort of upper and lower belly. The upper one is courtesy of ds and never went away. He seems to stretch out the bit just above my belly button.

I know the baby is still low down below my belly button at this point but I am really hard and sticky out above my belly button.

It is technically my 3rd pregnancy. I did a google search of pictures of 17 week bumps and there is a huge difference in sizes.

Mine is def showing now. What is yours like?

OP posts:
onlyreadingneverposting8 · 15/06/2020 17:43

@Sheera1 I'm huge! Well my bump is....There is absolutely no hiding the fact that I'm pregnant!!

onlyreadingneverposting8 · 15/06/2020 17:44

And for full disclosure this is technically my 14th pregnancy and will be my 9th baby ... baby 1 will be 19 tomorrow.

AliasGrape · 15/06/2020 18:08

@fool11 there’s definitely a 33 week thing! That all sounds very stressful, so glad everything was ok when they checked you out.

@Sheera1 my bump seemed to come and go a lot at 17 weeks and I was still getting away with mostly non-maternity stuff - but then it was the size 18/20 and elasticated waist end of my wardrobe anyway! Some days I looked super pregnant, others just a bit fatter than normal!

Had another growth scan today, baby sticking to his/her curve so still just below 90th Baby was moving a lot on the scan, and I saw a big yawn which was very cute. Still head down so my theory that he’d turned himself round was wrong (I’m saying he because it’s what I use in real life, just have a feeling but don’t actually know!). Got my clexane prescription and they showed me how to do it by giving me my first one.

AliasGrape · 15/06/2020 18:09

*just below 90th centile that should say.

Clarkel1 · 15/06/2020 18:20

@Sheera1 yeah I'm ok today not feeling quite as sick so worrying as I do but I'm ten weeks so it might be getting better I had scans at 6 and 8 weeks heartbeat there at both so I know baby in the righ place so the cramping isn't that. Maybe the uti that I'm on the antibiotics for or something causing the pain. Hope everyone well today xx

Frazzlerock · 16/06/2020 08:43

Morning all,

@Liese27 I'm sorry you're going through this worry. I am not going to give you my experience - (I have good and bad). I think you just have to wait it out and keep hoping all is okay. That's what I've done with all mine, but the anxiety is incredibly intense and I'm afraid I don't have any advice on how to control that Sad Please keep us updated lovely xx

Hi @charliehen welcome to the group. I think most of us have experienced multiple MC and MMC. It's awful and really taints future pregnancies doesn't it. We've all been through the anxiety and I think most of us till are at whatever stage we're at. I'm on my 7th pregnancy after losing 4 babies and being scanned regularly (NHS and private). I have one tomorrow in fact at nearly 17 weeks. Are you under the care of a recurrent miscarriage clinic?

@Clarkel1 I was still l getting cramping at 10 weeks. Pretty sure its normal stretching of the uterus? But speak to your midwife or EPU if you're concerned. I know the worry too well.

@Sheera1 my bump is huge and has been since about 10 weeks. I will try and take a pic so you can compare as we are very close in weeks. Though I know everyone is vastly different.

@fool11 that sounds uncomfortable! I'm glad they are monitoring you.

@onlyreadingneverposting8 wow 9! I'm impressed! Sorry you've also had so many losses Sad

I had the day off yesterday as it was my birthday. The big 4-1!
I refused to celebrate my 40th last year and completely boycotted it as I was so miserable after so many MMCs and felt 40 was the turning point that meant it would never happen and we'd been trying yet again for 7 months by that point since the last MMC, and nothing was happening. So this year I celebrated both my 40th and 41st with this very precious gift Grin

Oh DP bought me this hilarious book that I thoroughly recommend to you all. It's called The Big Fat Activity Book For Pregnant People. It's the funniest thing I've ever read I think.

Right, I'm going to take a pic for @sheera1 now....

There we go. Warrior Baby at 16+5

onlyreadingneverposting8 · 16/06/2020 09:16

@ frazzle - I think you me and @Sheera1 would get along very well! I too refused to celebrate my 40th...I had a very traumatic mmc a few months before (haemorrhaged with cervical shock and ended up in resus totally by myself as we had only just moved to the area and had no one to look after the kids). Then my parents are appalling and I stopped contact.

How are you feeling about your scan? I'm wondering about getting another before the anomaly scan - so DH can come with me again. I've been to many a scan by myself due to DH working but now more than ever I feel like I need his support! Will attach my pic from yesterday. I think we're pretty similar.

Love the "warrior baby" term - you need an actual name that means "warrior" or something akin somewhere in their name. Talking of which - have you thought about names? I did initially and had totally decided on a boys name....which of course we don't need now! 🤣 I have Greek Cypriot & German heritage and the kids also have Manx from DHs side. All the kids have Greek first names and family middle names.

@Liese27 can only second what @Frazzlerock says. Sending you lots of love!

@charliehen hi and 🤞🏼🤞🏼🤞🏼 this is the one!

AncientandPregnant · 16/06/2020 09:24

Love these bump pictures! I’m 7-8 weeks so no bump yet. Hoping to hide the pregnancy from work, extended family and friends until after a CVS so I need it to stay flat as long as possible. Did anyone here have a CVS? I’ve never had one before but definitely want it now as I have to think of the impact any disability would have on my three kids.

I have pain across my pelvis at the back. I’m really hoping that’s not the start of my back going. I can’t lose mobility at 8 weeks.

@Clarkel1 I am worried about lack of symptoms too. I was very nauseated for. The start with my three clocking children. Barely any nausea with this one yet. Also not many stretching pains and my boobs are not very sore. I do worry this is all a sign that my HCG isn’t high enough.

Liese27 · 16/06/2020 09:28

Thank you @Frazzlerock and @onlyreadingneverposting8 I think I've known deep down inside all along that there is something wrong with this baby. That is why I went for the early scan.. the spotting is gradually getting worse and I'm having on and off contraction like cramps. I'm going to give it a couple of days and see if I miscarry naturally, would really prefer that. But if ot drags out too long I'll go in for a D&C.

Clarkel1 · 16/06/2020 09:33

@AncientandPregnant yeah my back also starting to get niggly my mum was getting upset other day as she's so worried for me this pregnancy because of my back op etc, I'm 10 +2 and it could be the nausea is just starting to ease but it panics me, even though with my two previous pregnancies I never even had any symptoms 😐 I'll try the EPA's today and see what they say x

Frazzlerock · 16/06/2020 09:41

@onlyreadingneverposting8 MMC just ruins everything right? We'd had such a long hard 4 years of constant shit, I just couldn't welcome becoming 40. Then we had another MMC in Jan this year then we had to cancel our wedding. I honestly thought 2020 would be another load of shit and I was going to boycott my 41st too. Thankfully our luck has changed at long last (I hope!). Sounds like you'v'e had an awful run of it too and I'm sorry you've had to go NC with your parents. Lets hope all of our luck has changed [fingers crossed]

I'm apprehensive about the scan, as always. We only had one a couple of weeks ago so I'm a bit more confident but there is always that nagging doubt isn't there. Its too many times being told there's no heartbeat when there was one before. The worst bit is waiting in the waiting room to be called in. I think I stop breathing until they put the thing on my tummy and say there's a heartbeat!
I think I feel more anxious when DP is there TBH. I think we feed of eachother's anxieties so it can escalate. But it is so much better when he is in the room and things are well so we can experience it together.
He's been to two scans - the Harmony scan and the private one a couple of weeks ago.

Re names, yes I was looking at 'Warrior' meanings but can't find anything I especially like. DP and I haven't discussed names yet. Feels too real! I have a list that I've composed over the past 4 years since we were expecting our first baby together. Girls list is enormous! Boys is not very long at all. I've already used my two favourite boys names on the DC (very traditional top 10 type names). I've also used some names on our lost babies so I'm running out of ideas Grin. I am looking forward to hearing what DP's favourites are.

Frazzlerock · 16/06/2020 09:42

@AncientandPregnant We didn't have a CVS, we had a Harmony scan and test which is also known as NIPT. It's expensive but it is worth it for peace of mind and completely non invasive

Countingblessings · 16/06/2020 09:49

Morning everyone!

@Liveforholidays congratulations!!! Lovely news, I hope you're all getting on ok. Exciting times!

I didnt celebrate my 40th either!! I was all caught up in whether to have another baby or not at that time that I just wanted being 40 to go away and not happen. All being well I'll be heavily pregnant when I turn 41 so might celebrate my 42nd Smile

I'm 13 weeks and think I have a bit of a bump but, to be honest, i never lost my baby weight from having my daughter 3 years ago so you cant really tell the difference between my bump and my belly Grin suits me though, I want to keep this pregnancy quiet until I've had all the medical checks done and hopefully that'll give me some reassurance that things will be ok.

And on that, I called the hospital today. Couldnt get the downs syndrome measurement at my 12 week scan so I was told to come back in 2 weeks for a scan and blood tests. But having googled, I'll be too late for an accurate scan by then (15 weeks). Hospital confirmed this this morning and said itll be blood test with 70% accuracy. So now I'm wondering about going down the private testing route that some of you have done, just because I would rather know as much as possible at this stage. Did any of those who have had the private testing go because of a lack of measurement at 12 weeks? Would you recommend? Worth the money for the reassurance?

AncientandPregnant · 16/06/2020 09:50

@Frazzlerock - yes I had Harmony with my son as his nuchal and bloods gave us a 1:10 chance of Down Syndrome. That was the time that Harmony was first introduced so I had it as part of a medical trial. It gave us lots of reassurance re Down Syndrome but it’s not as reliable for other syndromes which is why I would like a CVS as well this time I think. My daughter was 1:150 for Down Syndrome and I was 29 then. God knows what it would be with the same measurements now I’m in my 40s. I think I gestate babies with thick nuchal folds and so I am going to ask them not to tell me my nuchal risk this time.

Frazzlerock · 16/06/2020 10:04

Ah I hadn't realised the CVS does more than the three the Harmony tests for. I guess there are so many chromosome issues it is hard to test for all of them, but if CVS gives you more then I can understand why you would opt for that.

@Countingblessings I would go private if I were you. See if you can find a really good well recommended clinic. It's worth paying more for a good sonographer. We went for a private one with one of our lost babies and it was like a shop front style place that was pretty cheap and it felt cheap and wasn't the best experience. Then with this one we paid double that last one and it was in a proper clinic and was an incredible experience. She was amazing and covered everything she could and just treated us really well.
