Hi all. I wasn't wanted to hijack any threads on hear with specific questions, but wondered if anyone fancied a chat thread for us classed as mature mums to be? Anyone who feels they fit in that box are welcome to join.

I will start. 🌞

I am 41. I have a 10 year old ds and one mmc 3 yrs ago. New partner is reason for the gap.

I was very shocked when I found out as we had assumed that ship had sailed as no joy since mmc. Head was in that camp and was quite a shock to come out of it.

I am 13 weeks based on my scan later Friday. Awaiting NIPT results hopefully today or tomorrow. Been cautious after mmc but hard to not get so attached as the weeks go by.

My first purchase if all ok will be a pregnancy pillow.

Honestly I feel massive already. I am very overweight but was with ds and had a perfect fuss free pregnancy. This time I am so 🤢 and tired and feel just ill from 4pm onwards.

Instead of it easing up, last night I was still feeling 🤢 trying to sleep and was very uncomfortable due to feeling like my womb is massive.

Anyone else feeling like this? Goodness knows how I will be weeks from now. Eeek.

Lovely news @Liveforholidays !! Congratulations!

@Samk79 just copy the list, paste it, add your deets and post 😊

Not sure why a few of them say 'darling child' next to them. Maybe the next person to add their deets can take those out?

Morning all,

@LJEva I have added you 😊

I hope everyone's having a good weekend.

It's our 5th anniversary today. Last year was supposed to be our last anniversary 'living in sin' 😂 but a small matter of a pandemic got in the way of our wedding which should have been Easter weekend. Weird to think we should be married by now!
We were only weeks away from our big day when we had to cancel, so we're ready to go for Easter weekend next year. I just hope my dress still fits post pregnancy!

DS2 wants to cook us breakfast this morning but DP is still asleep and I'm starving! Maybe I should go and give him a poke 😬

Happy Sunday all xx

Samk79 · 14/06/2020 08:56

Morning ladies,

I just wondered how many others are advised to be induced at 40 weeks due to their age?

I had a phone consultation with the consultant at 16 weeks and she says this is what they advise but obviously it's my decision.

I have my 28 weeks app in 2 weeks and I'm sure she will discuss it again.

I understand I need to do what is safest for my baby but feel in 2 minds. I want to have a natural birth and worry about having a failed induction.

I've got two older children who were both natural births but were both late. My daughter 3 days and my son 10 days late x

AncientandPregnant · 14/06/2020 09:18

@Samk79 I am only 7 weeks so have had no advice yet but just to say I had an induction at 39 weeks with my third and it was easiest birth by far. I think my body just knew what to do after the first two. They put in the pessary and told me to go for a walk. We walked up the street to M&S to buy Percy Pigs and before we got to the counter I was suddenly having full on contractions. Couldn’t even pay for the Percy Pigs it was all so quick. My husband somehow got me back to the hospital (with quite an audience) and my son was born less than an hour after the pessary had been inserted!

Liveforholidays · 14/06/2020 10:31

@Samk79 I was told all along that I had to be induced because of my age, it really annoyed me. I was booked in for my induction on 1st June but when I got to the hospital I asked to speak to the consultant first as I wanted to make sure it was the right decision. I'd already had 2 sweeps and had made any progress. The consultant came and explained the risks to me... I also had low papp a and high blood pressure towards the end of my pregnancy which increased the risks further. I then took the decision to go ahead with the induction... The pessary was inserted and then the next day my waters broke. I then had to have a small amount of the hormone drip to get things going a bit quicker but then Joseph was delivered in 4 1/2 hours! I felt annoyed that my age was talked about as being a problem all the way through pregnancy to be honest, especially as I'm only just 40 (my birthday was in early May) but felt happier discussing things with the consultants and making an informed decision myself.

AliasGrape · 14/06/2020 10:55

@Samk79 yes I was told right from booking in I’d probably be induced due to age. I’ve sort of meekly accepted it all along whilst internally being pissed off it’s been presented as a given. Like @Liveforholidays said it’s annoyed me my age has been treated as a big problem throughout - I’m perfectly healthy, baby is doing well, I’m happy to be told facts/ risk factors and percentages but I’m not ok with ‘well you’re 40 so this is happening’ . Women have been having babies into their 40s since time began - my SIL (now 50) was born when her mum was 46. So it’s not some strange and risky new endeavour.

Sorry, sound like I have a bit of a chip on my shoulder and I don’t really! I just have enough anxiety around pregnancy and birth due to the way I lost my own birth mum and a slight distrust of hospitals for other traumatic reasons, so I really need to feel informed and in control and not just blankly told what’s happening and made to feel like an unexploded bomb on account of my very advanced age Grin I have an appointment on Monday and am determined to speak up a bit and get some idea of why they’re so focused on induction - I know they’re concerned there’s a risk the placenta deteriorates quicker as you get older but I need to know how great that risk is, and compare it with the increased likelihood of needing interventions or emcs after an induction.

@stairgates yeah they’ve said ‘any time from 36 weeks’ at one point, but I think they’re mostly working on starting things off from 39 weeks. I’d rather wait to get to full term 40 weeks (with increased monitoring if necessary) and then see where we are. BUT I’m saying that now, I’m 33+3 and already getting a bit uncomfortable and the pain in my lady bits is getting really bad (I think it might be a varicose vein, how lovely) so who knows I might be begging them to induce me early despite everything I’ve said above! Grin

Happy anniversary @Frazzlerock hope you have a good day together. Flowers

PregnantPorcupine · 14/06/2020 15:10

Happy anniversary Frazzle!

Re the induction thing, I have zero experience so can't advise, but I did see an acronym for things to consider when offered treatment/interventions (might be from the positive birth book?)
B - Benefits
R - Risks
A - Alternatives
I - what does your Intuition say?
N - what happens if I do Nothing (could be nothing for the next 5 minutes, or nothing for 24 hours etc)?
S - consider asking for a Second opinion

Maybe that's all obvious anyway, but might be handy to think about when talking to the doctor etc..

Liveforholidays · 14/06/2020 15:38

I used this acronym when I had my discussions and felt very empowered.

onlyreadingneverposting8 · 14/06/2020 15:40

Afternoon everyone! Hope you're all ok!

Re induction I asked last baby (I was nearly 41 at time of birth) about induction at no later 40 weeks aged over 40 (nb had been induced previously before 40 weeks for other reasons) and the consultant was completely uninterested and said it was only relevant for FTM over 40. I wanted to be induced and she agreed to it. I was induced at 39+3.

onlyreadingneverposting8 · 14/06/2020 15:43

Sorry! Meant to tag on - so I do think things like induction etc are very individual consultant and NHS trust protocol dependant. If you have strong feelings either way make sure they're heard. I think what @PregnantPorcupine has posted is very sensible.

Samk79 · 14/06/2020 17:03

Thanks for the replies ladies. It's interesting how different trusts do things so differently! I'll discuss it further at my next appointment x

Liese27 · 14/06/2020 18:44

Hi, would love to hear opinions.. this morning I had pink and red blood in my cm a couple of times when I wiped, nothing reached the liner.. I was so sure it was going to continue to a full blown miscarriage. I've never had any spotting before in this pregnanncy or with my DD. (My baby measured 7weeks 5 days at 9 week scan a week ago.) Later I had some period like cramping while we were out trying to celebrate my hubby's bday. I even went to buy extra thick maternity pads. I've heard and watched many missed miscarriage videos where there is some spotting and then it stops just to discover a missed misscarriage at the sonar. I have a follow up sonar on Fri. I would really prefer to miscarry at home rather than discovering a missed miscarriage at the sonarSad

AliasGrape · 14/06/2020 19:16

Oh @Liese27 I’m sorry that’s happening - it’s such a worry and so stressful.

All I can say is that the first 12 weeks of my pregnancy were like this - I had quite a few bleeds and a few ‘pink wipes’. I was told it can be quite normal - bleeding in pregnancy is not uncommon. I always bleed after smears and sometimes after sex too and it seems I just have a bit of a bleedy cervix. It would sometimes happen (in early pregnancy) after a ‘difficult’ poo too! There could be all sorts of reasons.

It’s good that you have a follow up scan booked. I don’t think there’s much you can do other than look after yourself and rest as much as you can. Obviously if it gets heavier or the pain gets worse then call the EPU or go to A&E, but there’s every chance it’s nothing sinister Flowers

Liese27 · 14/06/2020 19:39

Thank you @AliasGrape
Its amazing how much your kind words mean to me.
I'm really trying to avoid any stress. We cancelled the party we planned for today and I explained nicely to my hubby why penetrative sex is not a good idea right now. The bloody wipes where after two normal poos.
I'm just trying to tell myself that whatever happens no amount of worry will change the outcome.

charliehen · 14/06/2020 20:15

Hi can I please join? I'm 42, have two beautiful boys already, sadly have had 6 mc and now 9 weeks pregnant with (fingers crossed) a healthy third.
Already had a scan due to multiple miscarriages and heartbeat was found, all looking well.
I'm just exhausted at the moment- definitely aware of my age!
