@Bumble84 I'm just over 10 weeks now and still have 2 weeks to go until my bloods are done! I may call my midwife tomorrow just to put my mind at rest x

Smiling89 · 28/05/2020 18:24

@GlassboatSailor I haven't been sick yet either (thank God!) and have bouts of worry somethings wrong as some days I feel absolutely fine.

Luckily every other day I either get a banging migraine, mild stomach cramps or bouts of nausea where I can't tell if I'm going to throw up or burp, which helps me rationalise that somethings still happening in there. Still anxious about the scan though. Keep trying to tell myself it's all going to be fine and I'm just one of the lucky ones!

I also happy cried over the episode of Vicar of Dibley when her animal service went well - one of the more benign things to set me off recently Confused

YahBasic · 28/05/2020 18:34

@Jasminex1 i was told by my midwife that they only test for sickle cell if there is a particular hereditary risk or you/DP/a family member are in a demographic with a higher risk.

I was tested for it because DH was born in Africa, whereas she said if he was White British they wouldn’t have tested.

Jasminex1 · 28/05/2020 18:41

@YahBasic oh thank you that's good to know!

@GlassboatSailor I'm definitely with you on feeling fed up! I'm sick once or twice daily and still feel sick all the time around that 😞

Are you all thinking of telling people straight after your scans, or are you waiting until you get the blood and screening results back?x

GlassboatSailor · 28/05/2020 19:06

@Jasminex1 oh I hadn't thought about waiting for results... I have no idea. I'm having my bloods taken a week before the scan. Does anyone know how long results take to come back?

@Smiling89 lol @ crying at vicar of Dibley. I cried because I didn't have any crisps the other day.... Emotions are not to be trusted.

djmbaker · 28/05/2020 20:25

I cry at everything... Britain's got talent had be blubbing the other day, anything happy.. animal, child or old people related I'm in bits. But then I'm also really moody 😂😂 my partner can't keep up.

I think I'll tell most people after 12 weeks.. or maybe after my 16 week gender scan.. see how we feel. I'm nervous of telling people is anyone else??

@GlassboatSailor I hear ya!!! I am nauseous every day.. it's awful.. it started to go about 1pm until 3/4.. then it hits me!! I find it's worse if I'm hungry?? But then what's really cruel is I'll start to eat and I'll get the most overwhelming nausea which is bloody awful.

Anyone else absolutely exhausted??? I'm 9 +4 and the tiredness this week has hit me like a train! 😓

@calipoppy at least you get another scan!! That's a bonus 😍

calipoppy · 28/05/2020 20:35

@djmbaker exactly I'm very happy with the outcome!!

Yes I've been reluctant to tell people, after our private scan on Tuesday we've told our siblings and my granny, and one friend each. I thought I would want to just tell everyone but actually I'm getting a bit anxious about it, I can't work out if it's because I'm worried about something going wrong or because I'm finding the attention quite overwhelming! What do you think is making you nervous?

calipoppy · 28/05/2020 20:37

And yes to being exhausted. I woke up at 7.30 and had my first nap at 11am!!

LoveSunshine01 · 28/05/2020 20:48

Yep I'm feeling nervous about telling people. I think partly it's not wanting all the attention and questions, and people getting over-excited or nosey.

Also with some friends I'm worried that our friendship will change - I won't be so free to do holidays and evenings out and lots of crazy drinking and dancing at weddings. I'm sure they'll be super happy for me, but it will be a bit different....

My other half thinks it'll be fine, he says he'll look after the baby if I want to do a camping weekend away or a big night out but I'm not sure if it's the same?

ElectricTonight · 28/05/2020 21:03

Hello ladies, I hope you're all well. I've been suffering with really bad anxiety and generally not feeling myself at all, I don't know why so I'm hoping it's the hormones and I get back to my usual self asap Sad

djmbaker · 28/05/2020 22:01

I think my anxiety is after my miscarriage last year, I'm not ready for the questions, the hype, the attention you know?? I'm not ready for the "see it just wasn't the right time last year" and the almost patronising opinion ?? I know EVERYONE means well, of course they do. But right now, it feels so special that only a handful of people know?? Problem is, I'm so bloated that as soon as people see me they will know. I've got a proper tummy and my boobs are huge!! So ain't no chance of hiding it 🙈🙈

Bumble84 · 28/05/2020 22:16

I’m nervous about telling some people because I know they are having their own struggles with fertility. I know they’ll be super happy for me but I also know that it’ll make them a bit sad for themselves which I understand.

I’m nervous in general for us though about something going wrong at some stage, I’m hoping I will calm down after the first trimester.

Benilyn · 28/05/2020 22:48

Has anyone thought yet about moisturiser or the such for stretch marks? I've got bio oil as I've had scars from previous operation but wondering about trying palmers cocoa butter as that seems to get good reviews and is a lot cheaper

LoveSunshine01 · 28/05/2020 22:52

Yes this too @Bumble84 there is one friend at work who I'm really not sure how to tell. I'm thinking a text or an IM conversation before I tell anyone else so she has a chance to process it first, but I don't know if that's a bit impersonal...

ElectricTonight · 28/05/2020 22:54

@Benilyn the palmers coco butter is the best I've used! Although after three pregnancies I do have stretch marks now but the cream definitely prevented them from being angry.

ElectricTonight · 28/05/2020 23:16

@djmbaker sorry to hear about your miscarriage, totally understand the reasoning behind your anxieties. People can be good at saying the wrong things sometimes even if they mean well. Aww I'm sure it will be a lovely surprise for people to see you with your bump 🥰I'm very much bloat at the moment but can't wait to feel the little bump rise from above the pubic bone 😂🙈

djmbaker · 29/05/2020 07:39

@LoveSunshine01 from someone who has struggled to get pregnant, a text is always the preferred option for me. When people tel you to your face it's almost impossible to hide your own personal feelings?? Whereas over text you can say what you really mean , as in how happy you are for someone.. and still feel a bit sad for yourself in private if that makes sense?thats just from my experience anyway ☺️

LoveSunshine01 · 29/05/2020 07:56

@djmbaker thank you, that makes a lot of sense x

Bumble84 · 29/05/2020 09:37

@djmbaker yeah that does make sense and I think that’s personally what I would prefer as well.

Who’s scan is coming up next? Are there any this week?

Natt99 · 29/05/2020 09:55

Hey guys, hope you're all doing ok. Sorry I've been a bit quiet, it was my birthday on Tues and had the week off, spending lots of time outdoors in this fab weather.

Just wondering if anyone has any advice about what I should do in this case? I got a letter confirming my 12 week scan for 12th June (even though they said no letter would be sent).
However, in the letter it says my 16 week appointment in July is cancelled, no reason given. The midwife who booked me in (not my midwife as she was going on maternity shortly) arranged the 16 week as face to face as she said they can do a test to see if the baby is rhesus negative like me, then I might not need anti D injections, so obviously I am keen for this appointment.

Over the past week I've called my appointed midwife 3 times to see what's going on but no answer so left messages. She only works Weds- Fri. A bit concerned that she hasn't got back to me, appreciate they are likely busy but I don't think it's unreasonable to expect a 5 min phone call.

If she doesn't get back to me does anyone know what I should do? I have the number of the community midwifes so thinking I could try them?

Nic2908 · 29/05/2020 10:24

You could always find the number for antenatal at the hospital that you are going to deliver at and ask them for advice?? Or like you say try community midwives. Happy birthday too!!!

ElsaCC · 29/05/2020 10:28

@Natt99 when I had my booking appointment my midwife told me she would book my 16 week appointment until after my scan because then we would have a better idea as to how many weeks I actually am. She said after the scan I need to call my gp practice to book the appointment. I dont know how it works there, if the appointments are booked through the gp ou the community midwives but seeing you already tried to reach her 3 times I would call someone else to try to get answers

LoveSunshine01 · 29/05/2020 10:36

I think a lot of the letters are auto-generated, so I would more trust that it will go ahead rather than not, but def worth double checking!

Is it a mobile number that you have for her? My midwife said that sometimes texting for quick check things can be a better way of contacting her than calling as she is often busy with appointments...

If not I would try the general line for the antenatal/midwife team?

Natt99 · 29/05/2020 11:57

Thanks everyone, I will give her until end of day next Weds then try the community midwifes or hospital on Thursday, good shout on the hospital.
Yeah it is a mobile, might drop her text next week too.
Guess the appointments not until July so it's not super urgent but I'd like to get it sorted.
So strange how it's different in different areas, my GP doesn't have anything to do with pregnancy, when I first told them they were like "just call this number, everything's done through the hospital"

Thanks for the birthday wishes, we worked out it's probably the first birthday in about 16 years where I didn't have a drink 😂

Bumble84 · 29/05/2020 14:42

@Natt99 only 16! 😂😂

The midwife asked me at booking in ‘have you ever woken up after drinking and not remembered saying or doing things’ I said em yeah, if I’m honest. She just started laughing and said, don’t worry about it!
