@tmc14
Re: leaving your little one whilst you are in hospital.
I had to leave my 19 month old when I went in to give birth to the little girl we lost. I was dreading leaving her overnight. She is still breastfed and has never gone to sleep or woken up without a feed from me. But do you know what, it was totally fine. My friend got her to sleep by just talking to her and when she woke up my husband was home and they just read books and had a bottle of milk and it was all fine. I think it was out of sight, out of mind for her.
I also was glad of the overnight rest after our ordeal.

Thank you all!

Good to see what prams your all going for. I’ve been doing some research, was initially leaning for the bugaboo Fox. But did a virtual store appointment, and didn’t like some of the features. So now looking at the Ocarro or UppaBaby. Got another online store appointment, and booking an in store appointment at my local pram store which opens in 2 weeks, to test push.

Re: prams
I've got a Silvercross Pioneer. I went into stores to choose what sort of pram I wanted and then I looked on Facebook marketplace. I found one for £120 that was absolutely immaculate.

It was a limited design to John Lewis and was still current stock at the time selling for £1000!
It's been amazing. I walk everywhere and it must have done thousands of miles now with tonnes of shopping 🤣.

I haven't looked at prams or travel systems yet, but I told my DH that my one criteria was that it was light and easy to collapse down (if I need to travel alone on the dreaded tube). My DH seems to have really taken off with the research, however, and has spent a lot of time reading up on models. He showed me one he thinks we should get, which looks to cost in the region if £2,000 new?! I balked at the cost and then distracted myself with something else 😂 I've said that I need to go and see it before buying online.

@AnxiousLady1 are you signed up for the bounty emails? I saved £400 on my travel system with one of their voucher codes, it was an end of line one, but exactly what we wanted...which is the opposite of you 😂 I wanted something I can use walking in the country, it's big and quite heavy, but has a handbrake, fully inflated big tires and a massive storage basket for picnics. Its also birth to 25 kilos, so should last us a while

@Knotemma I have the Bounty app and have seen those vouchers coming through. I haven't paid too much heed to them just yet (still fear tempting fate even looking at prams!) I did however use them to trial SMOL 😁 And get some of the Mama Milo stretchmark products.

The pram you have gone for looks really like the kind of thing my DH would go for. He loves anything with "off roading qualities" 😂. I've established that the initial cost my DH mentioned was if we bought all the components of the travel system separately. So if we buy a bundle it won't cost that! Model he is looking at is Ocaro? Not sure if anyone has tried or read much about that one? Looks like it will collapse easily, but seems more like an "all-terrain" model. Aside from safety and baby's comfort, my main priority will be how easily I can use it on my own and get around. I've also started thinking about whether being able to use it for a toddler and baby at a later date is a good call. I think @SunStruck mentioned this. Talk about counting my chickens...😂🙈

Thanks for the new thread @Avocuddles!!

Does anyone have any recommendations for a pregnancy pillow?

Report
SammiLou2312 · 17/05/2020 12:51

@rachael321 I'm using one from mamas and papas...think it's the dreamgeniee? Doubles as a nursing pillow too but is only a c shaped one so depends if you wanted a full length or u shaped one...we have a king size bed and my hubby still has plenty of room when I am using that one though...think he would be super squished with a u shaped one

Report
Knotemma · 17/05/2020 13:01

@Rachael321 I've got this one www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07QNRNSB5/ref=cm_sw_r_apa_i_8vsWEbJY9RSD3?tag=mumsnet&ascsubtag=mnforum-21

It's reasonable, and doesn't take up too much bed. I know a lot of people love the massive U shaped ones, but I still like DH to be able to get near me/fit in the bed 😂

@AnxiousLady1 I ordered ours the day before our anatomy scan in a moment of madness. It came with an i-level car seat, which is perfect for me, because I have an obsession about babies not being sat up in car seats (because SIDS).

I get where you're coming from on the flexibility to have a second seat. I mentioned to DH the other day about the possibility of more kids ( we've never really talked about how many we would have) and he looked at me like I'd lost my mind. Then said, maybe let's just focus on getting this one here.

I have to admit, maybe because all of my losses have been so early, that I'm now feeling really good that were having a baby in September. I still have anxious moments, but they're moments rather than hours/days which is lovely

AnxiousLady1 · 17/05/2020 13:19

@Knotemma I haven't even looked at the i-level thing 🙈 I read a little about SIDS earlier this week and then had to stop as I thought I'm literally going to worry non-stop from here on out. 😂

I have felt great for the last week but have had a headache and nausea since I got up this morning. So I think today is going to be a write off. I dislike not feeling in control (it's like being hungover), but am taking the positive in that it's simply a reminder I'm pregnant! 15 weeks today 👍

Lots of pram talk is definitely making me think we should get shopping soon.... I'm leaning towards the Mamas and Papas Flip x3, I'd originally been planning on getting the Ocarro but two friends have told me independently that they wish they'd gone for the Flip instead as the Ocarro is very heavy and not that easy for the shorter of us to use, whilst the Flip is a good 3 or 4kg lighter. I'm also thinking about getting a BabyZen Yo-yo a little later down the line as have been told by several friends that it's the best travel / lightweight buggy going although definitely not the cheapest...

@AnxiousLady1 there are some very good bundle deals online for the Ocarro at the moment which should knock at least £700 off the £2000 cost of getting everything separately, just get on google and you'll find a few different suppliers as well as direct from M&P.

One thing I've only found out this week is that not all car seats are suitable for all cars - the one I'd initially looked at (cloud-z) as part of a bundle turns out to not be recommended for us with my car (qashqai) because the seat angle means baby's legs might not fit comfortably! Think we know which one we'll get initially now (maxicosi pebble pro), then after about 9 months we'll invest in a spinning one.

Re pregnancy pillows I have this one but in grey...

https://www.preciouslittleone.com/product-information/55/32835/cuddles-collection-12ft-body-baby-support-pillow-white/

At the moment I'm not sleeping with it at night but finding it great for naps and also for just propping us both up in bed for a morning cuppa! It will no doubt make its way into the bed at night eventually but for now I'm just positioning a relatively thin cushion under my side which is helping me to feel a bit more comfortable.

@AnxiousLady1 yay to 15 weeks today! Based on my due date I'm 21 weeks today but I'm continuing to view Monday as the start of each week as I know it's impossible for the baby to have been conceived any earlier 😆
We emptied some furniture out of baby's room this morning ready for painting next weekend, than I reckon I might be brave enough to think about ordering the cot and dresser.....

@AnxiousLady1 babyzen YOYO is the one you should look at! Apparently easiest and lightest, folds down to go in the overhead compartment on flights! I've done so much research 🤣

Report
Knotemma · 17/05/2020 13:55

@AnxiousLady1 I knew I wanted an i-size, because that's the most up to date safety rating and I was actually determined not to get the type of infant car seat that you take out of the car, because it's when babies are kept in seat for more than 2 hours that you can start to run into problems, as they can't support their own heads. As a result I was very anti travel system. However the i-level car seat allows you to lie them flat, both in the car and when attached to the pram, so that really made me feel better about having one.

I think I'm now channeling my worries into research for what we want /need.

I also had a chat with my parents yesterday as my in laws had mentioned wanting to contribute, so I think I know what I'm going to ask both of them to buy

@Rachael321 I bought the BBHugme, it's pricey but oh so worth it for me as I love my sleep! Can't recommend enough!

Report
AnxiousLady1 · 17/05/2020 14:09

@Knotemma So the ocarro car seat has a removable insert that allows baby to lie flat. I have read a little on the i-size after your last comment and am now also thinking that's a good idea, as it seems to have a couple of more safety tests. I am second guessing ocarro based on weight, as @avocuddles has said. And the car model side of things hadn't even crossed my mind until now, so good to know! We are planning to get a new car before the arrival. More out of necessity than anything, as current one is quite old and battered 😂 Handy for quick runaround but I don't fancy butting a new born in it!

@SunStruck- the overhead baggage thing is interesting. Hadn't considered that either, but good to know as my family are in Ireland so there will undoubtedly be many Ryanair flights in my future 😂

So much to consider!!! But I think I ultimately need to start with the car seat and work my way forward from there?

Report
SunStruck · 17/05/2020 14:47

@Avocuddles we also wanted to get a car seat that we could use from newborn to 4 years initially but when we looked in the shop it was just really daunting as we need to change our car (we were doing that anyway because DH has a sports car 🙄), and those 0-4 years ones look massive. I'm worrying about traveling with that kind of car seat (and it can't clip into any car just using the seatbelt which is ideal if you're traveling with a car seat). An infant seat you can clip into any car with the seat belt but obviously the downside is that you have to get a new one when they grow out of it at 14 months or so.

My reasoning for that it's still a good purchase is that I'm hoping for another baby which means we have to purchase a new one anyway 🤣

I’m another one looking at the Ocarro. It seem to have good reviews, and does everything I want. I spoke to the store about the flip, because it’s lighter. However it’s not as great for all terrains, which is one of my key features. They have said if I remove the seat and fold separately, it’s lighter, and one of the reasons it’s heavier, is because you can fold with the seat in place. Which other models such as bugaboo, and uppababy don't. It’s so confusing.

Report
Treaclepie19 · 17/05/2020 15:15

We're getting a flip xt3 because we loved the flip with our son.
It comes with the cloud z i-size which we will use until its time to switch to an axkid minikid which will do for ages then and we loved it with our 4yo. He's not long come out of it and he's a very tall boy.

Report
SunStruck · 17/05/2020 15:19

@DressingGown87 I can confirm you can fold the Uppababy with seat in place, but not the bassinet, just the toddler seat! You can start using the toddler seat from 3 months old. 😄

@Dressinggown87 Where are you managing to book the in store appointments? I kind of assumed seeing anything in store was still going to be a write off!

So I think we're going with the Cloud Z car seat. I hadn't done any research but turns out my DH had done A LOT 😂 As soon as I started talking about i-size etc, he was like "yes yes, I've looked at all that. This is the one we need to get" 😂 He's an engineer. Should have just left him to that stuff from the get go!
