Hi everyone, sorry I've been a bit rubbish at posting / keeping up. Just so hard in these early weeks and the wait feels so long. I had an early scan and saw a heartbeat which was great but am still so anxious and feel sick thinking about the 12 week scan. 3 weeks from today. I am off work for 3 weeks after this week so I hope the time will go a bit quicker then.

Hope everyone is well and enjoying the sun if you have it where you are!

@MOGMOGMOG85 yep its gall stones. Once baby is here its a case of pushing to get gallbladder removed ASAP, but thats a case of waiting list and wait and see! Got the risk of infection to worry about too while it's still in there! People always have opinions about everything! My MIL kept saying stop buying things you'll get lots of gifts.... yeah that's fine but I'm not depending on gifts to clothe my baby!! Gifts are great yeah but I want to know I've enough to get by, esp with covid and limited visits etc. Just try to keep a cool head and move on, easier said than done I know.

Re pants... m&s full briefs in black are my go to. So comfy!!! Not exactly sexy but right now comfort wins!

@MOGMOGMOG85 opinions are like ar*eholes, everyone has one 🙈. I would respond with something like "Thanks for your concern, but we've made a plan for what we would like to buy ourselves". Just shut them down, it's your money and you can spend it how you like.

On the baby moon front, keep an eye on the likes of haven and park holidays if you just want a little get away. My MIL managed to get Monday to Friday for four people in Southport for £89 total, so there are some excellent deals, I think they're going October time? I've attached a couple of photos from our walk today, I realized about 4km in that short shorts were a mistake because my thighs now run together 😂🙈

Also to clarify, I've never been the sort of person to splash out on extravagant stuff and haven't been doing so. I've been getting criticised for buying a pram (which for a Bugaboo Cam 3 with all the bits was a complete bargain at £150!!!), baby clothes (should have got them for free apparently - but I'd prefer to buy stuff I like and its not like I'm hitting up all the boutiques, I'm talking about £30 for 16 babysuits second hand!!!!), and even an amazing bargain of a humungous rug which I bought for £60 (it was only a year old and £160 to start with) to spruce the house up a bit with a view to getting some killer pictures in our sales ad! These are not random or irrational choices, the pram was a no-brain bargain, I think its very sensible to spend little bits and pieces making your house look amazing to encourage a quick sale, and £30 on baby clothes is hardly going overboard, especially when they are all such nice quality. And as I say its my money, why can't I choose clothes that I like instead of just having to get what I'm given? I'm really averse to gendered baby clothes and want a bit of choice over the matter. And the bundle of sleep suits I found had a whale theme which is my favourite animal and I know will make me happy every time I see them! STROP OUT!!! Sorry... don't get why I'm suddenly open to inspection and feeling irritated about it! xx

Oh @Rachael321 I was wondering about your gallstones, but couldn't remember if it was gall or kidney stones so didn't bring it up! That's great you're soooo far along now and baby is in a great and strong position to be born even if your health declines. I hope you can keep ticking along a couple more weeks though. What happens when baby is born, do they then operate on your gallstones? xx

@SammiLou2312 congrats, that is really soon! Thanks for the pants link, they look great, and half the price of Seraphine! Before I saw your little correction about your birthing ball there I was psml wondering if your hubby gave you a special birthday treat that you were sharing with us Wink Grin

@Treaclepie19 so glad all well! It's always worth getting checked out xx

@Knotemma ah I'm so jealous of your baby moon! We have way too much going on, financially as well, to consider it now :( if you get any nice pics of the countryside please do share - if that's not a weird request!

@Shefliesonherownwings you're right we carry so much tension around without realising. I've never been as exhausted as I am on scan days/appointment days when I could literally sleep all day afterwards when I've finally let go of the worry. You and @Anon20something are both coping so incredibly well, its insane! Hopefully it helps a bit to talk about these things, like how triggering the hospital bag is - it must take you right back there, totally understandable. Anon - I kept thinking about 'Alien' a lot after my miscarriage, it was such a gorey, surreal, lonely experience and I found it really strengthening to imagine that I have a little bit of Ripley in me (who I have always had a major girl crush on). I'm actually up for re-watching this now, although prob not the most highly advised pregnancy viewing Confused

My new Seraphine under bump pants arrived and I'm in love. They are SO comfy, I think I'm going to buy more despite the price and just wear them forever, so much better than normal pants!

Saw my dream job advertised today (not well paid but would be a great step up for me and allow me to seek a better paid position next with the experience). I wouldn't normally meet the person spec for a head gardener but they have quite a relaxed spec and I think that's because there won't be a tonne of competition. I think my CV, experience and some of the places I've worked would really appeal to them. They are looking for someone to start when I'm about 8 months pregnant - what do you think my chances are oh dear. Also there's the little matter of that it still wouldn't bring enough money in to keep us afloat, and we're moving across the country. It's all becoming very real the sacrifices I'm going to make over the next years, in terms of career and pension etc. Feeling like the family just expect me to sacrifice for my partner which - i dont know if its the hormones - is winding me up loads! Also feel like I've been getting a lot of opinions lately on what I should and shouldn't do, including what I should and shouldn't spend MY money on etc, and feeling very aware also that this is only going to get worse as I become a mother! This is mostly coming from family, but also some friends too - it seems anything you do from now on is up for debate suddenly! Which makes the idea of financial difficulty and sacrificing career/profession even more of a bitter pill. If motherhood was respected it might be a bit easier to swallow but I just know that every sod and his mother is going to be sticking their nose in and judging me, and I'm not the sort to enjoy that!!!! Very everyday, common garden problems, but playing on my mind - what I'm getting myself into is becoming very real now!

That should have said bouncing and rolling about on my birthing BALL lol

Report
SammiLou2312 · 15/07/2020 21:26

Hey lovely ladies. Hope you are all doing ok...I had my midwife checkup today and had to redo some of my blood tests as my hemoglobin levels were too low last time they checked them...in good news all the bouncing and rolling on my birthing seems to have encouraged baby girl to cooperate and midwife thinks she is now head down instead of fully breach 🥰
With regards to maternity underwear (apologies not sure who it was that originally brought it up) I've been measuring myself at home and ordering bras online from Asda and Debenhams which double as nursing bras for when baby is here. Best purchase I made was on Amazon for maternity knickers tho...www.<a class="break-all" href="//amazon.co.uk/dp/B01JGK93VG/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_6t2dFbJS5R07C?tag=mumsnet&ascsubtag=mnforum-21" rel="nofollow noindex" target="_blank">https://amazon.co.uk/dp/B01JGK93VG/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_6t2dFbJS5R07C?tag=mumsnet&ascsubtag=mnforum-21 they are the comfiest I have found as they fit under bump and stretch round my thighs really well. I have shall we say bigger thighs to start with and they got bigger along with my hips as my pregnancy progressed. Other pants I tried, even stupidly big granny pants styles dug into my legs or crotch far too much. Hope that you all find stuff that work for you x

Report
JuniperAndRose · 15/07/2020 09:07

all of the bra tips are really helpful! My normal bras are getting uncomfortable already. At the weekend I took out the box of maternity clothes from the top of the wardrobe, but it's really difficult to look through it. I think I'm just going to have to do it gradually.

@footprintsintheslow how is your nausea now? Mine is not gone yet but gradually easing I think. Which of course makes me worry a little bit, even though I am quite fed up of feeling sick by now! The nausea and vomiting is actually how I found Mumsnet in the first place - during my first pregnancy I was googling for any information and there is a very helpful hyperemesis thread running on here. It was just so nice to read posts from people who were going through it or had been through it and understood! And didn't say things like 'oh have you tried eating ginger biscuits'😡

All of these scan photos popping up are so lovely!

@MOGMOGMOG85 that sounds like a good positive outcome from the midwife appointment! I'm glad to hear it was all reassuring

@Shefliesonherownwings hope you’re doing okay xx I forced myself to put everything away and clear her room a few weeks after she died; it was really difficult but at the same time I found it quite therapeautic to look at everything and let all the feelings out. I find myself looking through everything quite often now. It’s packing it all again I can’t face, and the fear of having to unpack it unused again. It’s just all so emotional being pregnant again!

I’m definitely leaving the room until last minute, and no furniture/baby stuff is going anywhere else in the house until we bring him home so that’ll be a mad rush when he’s here! I’m 30 weeks on Saturday and getting induced at 38, so I think I’m just going to start doing little bits so it’s not as daunting. OH is staying out of the way and avoiding all things baby at the minute which is understandable I suppose! He also doesn’t like feeling his kicks now as it reminds him of the film ‘Alien’ 😂

Shefliesonherownwings · 14/07/2020 22:16

@MOGMOGMOG85 sorry the start of your appointment was stressful, not sure why the midwife had to go on about you being higher isk so much! So glad you got that reassurance from listening to baby though, hearing the kick and heartbeat sounds wonderful. I think sometimes we don't realise how tense and stressed we are until we suddenly get that relief and it all comes out. Hopefully the next 10 days goes well for you.

I'm living in non wired stretchy bras now, the underwire digs in too much. I bought some crop top things from h&m but I didn't find them supportive and the colour ran. I think I'm about an E cup currently. I did get a pack of 5 big pants from Debenhams though for about £16 and they are soo comfortable. I'm going to get some more in the next size up too.

@Anon20something I can absolutely understand the difficulties with thinking about the hospital bag and how triggering it is. I actually have still not unpacked our baby bag since we came home from the hospital. I just can't bring myself to open it, it's sitting in our spare room. I will have to at some point, once we start getting that room ready but I am planning to leave that right to the last minute. There are plenty of lists online to help you so try not to worry about what goes in it too much. I can't remember how far along you are but maybe you don't need to think about doing the bag just yet. Not that it will probably get any easier but perhaps you may feel more able to do it closer to the time. Could your OH be there to sort it out with you so you can support each other? Or maybe you could do it in bits and pieces so it's not so overwhelming. Sending hugs. X

MOGMOGMOG85 · 14/07/2020 19:27

Thanks for the bra and undies advice - I think probably just buying cheap big non-maternity pants is a good idea, a lot will probably just fit under bump anyway if they're the right style! I ordered a cheap cotton nursing bra from Jojomamanbebe today and the cup size was B-FF (I guess its a stretchy deal) so since I'm slap bang in the middle of that I feel confident it will fit for the duration, but we'll see! Good point on avoiding lace, def won't go there. I have very sensitive breasts as it is and have bad memories associated with them to the point my boyfriends have never been able to touch them! I'm determined to try and breastfeed but truth be told I'm terrified of it, but I'm more scared of the pump! So yeah, soft cotton all the way.

I had my midwife appointment today. It wasn't the same midwife, but then I've only met her once so that's fine. She spent the first 10m just circling stuff on my notes that said "high risk" and repeating my high risks which didn't make me feel great. I didn't think I was nervous of the midwife appointment but being in the office reminded me how empty and negative I felt the first time round when I was convinced I was going to miscarry again. Then all the repetition of high risk, high risk, and also the fact I'm still nervous about lack of movement made me feel very low. I thought she was going to take blood and that was freaking me out too. Anyway then she got on to actually measuring me and it was all good news from there. My funds is exactly where it should be (up to my bellybutton now), my blood pressure was great, which makes me feel less anxious about this label of "high risk" i've got for pre-eclampsia (I'm still taking my aspirin and trying not to worry). She said my blood results from before showed my iron levels were really strong, which was great to know. And then she got me on the table to listen to the heartbeat which I was not expecting! At first it was just swooshing sounds and she explained it was my placenta, which appears to still be very much anterior but at least its def not low down any more. Then the baby kicked and we heard it, but I didn't feel a thing, so it must be that the baby is kicking my anterior placenta and I'm oblivious. She listened lower down to avoid the placenta and the heartbeat came through so strong and steady. I cried immediately, it really took me by surprise. The sound was so big, so different to the 12 week scan, it was wonderful. Wish I'd recorded it for OH. Anyway she had a good listen and said the rate was regular and she repeated that it was a really strong heartbeat 3 times in total which was wonderful to hear! I left feeling exhausted so I think I was a lot more anxious than I realised. Does anyone else feel totally wiped out after a scan or appointment? It must be emotionally drained...

Anyway I'm so happy, I hadn't seen it alive since 13weeks and 3 days and was very aware of that, now I know it's alive in there and I only have less than 10 days to my scan.

Hope everyone else is doing ok this evening and manages to relax and do something nice that isn't too monotonous! Cooking is my main event of the day at the moment and because I look forward to it I've been cooking and eating earlier and earlier, so was done by 5pm and now need to find something else to entertain me!

@Avocuddles it’s scary how things just feel like they creep up on you, I wish I could be excited about getting it packed but I’m just not! We packed a few outfits for lily for photos but that was it so I don’t really know how much to take etc for baby! Think I’m sorted for me though, last time I took far too much but I was in and out in less than 24 hours so didn’t actually need much of it!

@Anon20something I'm sorry that thinking about prepping for hospital is inevitably so triggering for you, I can't imagine how heartbreaking it must be given everything you experienced previously.
There are plenty of helpful lists online for when you feel ready to start planning. I won't feel ready to start properly packing for a long while yet but have started to accumulate a pile of stuff in the corner of the spare room largely because I'm not sure how keen I'll be on traipsing around a supermarket when I get much further along so have been picking up bits here and there!

I need to start thinking about hospital bag! Last time I ended up packing all the wrong thing and did most of labour naked because I was so uncomfortable 🙈😂 Finding it really tough thinking about what to pack for baby though, pretty triggering to think of how awful it was packing it last time and I’m not sure what a living baby will need! 😞

@Whiffle77 it terrifies me thinking about how big my bra size might end up! Confused

@MOGMOGMOG85 re sleep bras I swear by the comfort bras / nursing comfort bras from asda / George.com, cheap and comfortable. I'm a 36HH (eeek) and can just about squeeze into the XL size! The non maternity versions are available in stores, the nursing ones on the website only. For 'real' bras my options are quite limited but Freya and hot milk tick the boxes although are on the expensive side - I've now outgrown the maximum m and s size! 😭
Can also recommend the two packs of nursing t shirts and vests from the Asda website, had some delivered the other day and was pleasantly surprised by the quality and again at a really good price. Have been eyeing up a few seraphine treats but the Asda stuff is great for everyday basics / stuff for your hospital bag.....
I've also found that the five pack of 'midi' cotton pants from asda has been way more comfortable than the expensive maternity underwear I invested in - it sits perfectly under the bump and is so comfy I bought a second pack which is again on the hospital bag pile!

thanks @Anon20something for the pregnancy pillow recommendation too, it came on Friday and has made such a difference! So much better than the first one I bought

My friend had a late loss and struggled with the "is this your first" question too when she was pregnant again. Now, after some time has passed she is far more open - she wants to talk about her first child, and it keeps them as part of her family. I've managed to avoid too many questions because of lockdown, but have said similar about having a rocky road to get here etc. It has made me think about my own questions to people though, as it is a harmless question, but you have no idea what the other person has been through. I think that is the same for everything though. I try to think the best in people (most of the time...) and think they are just thinking of something to say/being interested.
I bought new bras a few weeks in and have to buy more again now, I can't believe it. Mine are so expensive too - the last ones I bought I was a GG and now think I need H, so I can't get cheap ones! I'm holding out on nursing until later i think, god knows what blummin size I will be by then!
Yes @footprintsintheslow thats a lovely way of putting it - warrior women Smile
