Hi everyone,

I had my 16 week appointment this week over the phone and it was lovely. My midwife asked usual questions, ran over blood test results, asked how I'm feeling emotionally etc.

We have a private scan on Saturday and I'm going to find out the sex Grin

EmmaA96 · 30/04/2020 16:41

I’ve seen the balloons in home and bargains we are looking at doing that and videoing to reveal to our families, bit of fun for the kids too!

How fab @roarfeckingroar excited for you! 2 weeks today until we find out I feel like the days are dragging but the weeks are flying!

roarfeckingroar · 30/04/2020 17:24

@EmmaA96 not sure if partner wants to know or not, but we've agreed he can step out the room if he likes. I'm not into reveals etc so no big risk of him finding out Smile

Mc3209 · 30/04/2020 18:33

@KitKatKit I am glad I am not the only one struggling. I keep thinking about New Zealand prime minister who, not only worked pretty damn hard all through her pregnancy, but also came back after just 6 weeks of mat leave! And I can barely get through the day..

Sls668 · 30/04/2020 18:48

@mc3209 I’m planning not to leave the sofa for 6 weeks when mine is born!!

KitKatKit · 30/04/2020 18:59

@Mc3209 Oh god she did didn't she! I go through phases of "I feel so shit" followed by "Stop feeling sorry for yourself, you're not the first or last!".

@roarfeckingroar Ah glad your appointment went well, and how exciting about the scan. I've also got a private one booked in for Tues next week. I just feel like I need some reassurance. I think if I could feel kicks I'd feel better but it's too early for that!

DressingGown87 · 30/04/2020 19:02

Has anyone got or used before any of them nappy bins? Do you have to buy special nappy sacks to fit them, which are really expensive? and would I just be better not being lazy.

@1990shopefulftm and @mc3209 just thought its something I could pass on to baby, and then say this was your gender reveal.

@roarfeckingroar Glad your appointment went well! Aww this weekend is so soon! I have another 10days to wait!

Both my sisters went back to work after 8 weeks! I'm taking my full 12 months! @mc3209 I do a bit of work in the morning, and then go completely down hill! Hope you found some motivation.

1990shopefulftm · 30/04/2020 19:25

@DressingGown87 I m sure they ll love that :)

EmmaA96 · 30/04/2020 19:28

@roarfeckingroar mines the complete opposite, zero patience and can’t wait to know!

I used the Tommee Tippee one! Became a pain after my stash of refills ran out, ended up putting a scented bag inside lol @DressingGown87

DressingGown87 · 30/04/2020 19:42

@EmmaA96 I thought that, they seem reasonably priced. Then I just looked at the price of refill bags! So seems a con! Do you thin your having boys or girls?

EmmaA96 · 30/04/2020 19:49

@DressingGown87 Definitely! I’m definitely thinking boys, I just think the scan looks so unlike my 2 girls and just got a feeling! But who knows 🤣 what about you?

DogCatDex · 30/04/2020 19:59

I’m glad others are still feeling tired. I was hoping the second trimester would come with a burst of energy but I now seem to be working full days and that’s all my energy depleted!

BabyDancer · 01/05/2020 08:03

Like @Lorenzo3000, I had my scan and had my due date bought forward by a week (from 5th November to 30th October). I hope you don't mind me joining too! Smile

KitKatKit · 01/05/2020 09:36

Welcome @BabyDancer !

@dogcatdex Good on you for managing full days! I get a few hours a day max and then I'm wiped. I'm 15 + 4 and looking forward to this mythical second trimester energy!

roarfeckingroar · 01/05/2020 10:18

@KitKatKit I haven't felt anything yet so I'm looking forward to the reassurance. I'm feeling a bit nervous as I'm already 16+5 and my midwife asked if I had felt anything.

@DressingGown87 are you having a scan in ten (nine) days? I'm nervous but excited. DP last saw the baby at 9 weeks so it's going to be pretty different this time!

@EmmaA96 that's funny - I've no idea why mine isn't impatient but I think it's because he isn't going through this, he hasn't seen the baby since it's resembled a human and (his words) his priority is me and my wellbeing for now, the baby is still kind of an idea not an actual being. I bet it changes at the scan tomorrow.

I had some bloods taken for genetics tests a couple of weeks ago. My grandmother and mother carried the gene for Duchenne muscular dystrophy (a particular nasty strain of MD), my mother lost two brothers to it in their teens. I was worried I may be a carrier but good news, I'm not and baby has no higher risk than anyone else in the general population .

We've started ordering a few bits and every time they arrive I can't believe how gorgeous and tiny and small they are. I think my online shopping habit may have shifted to baby clothes not me clothes now. Oops.

1990shopefulftm · 01/05/2020 10:49

@roarfeckingroar sorry about your Ines, glad to hear you re not a carrier.

We re getting the nursery hopefully plastered next week, we re lucky to live in a house with an outside tap so keeping the distance for a day is easy which means it should be painted and ready to buy things for in 3 weeks or so. Already picked out which IKEA furniture we d like

1990shopefulftm · 01/05/2020 12:05

Had my screening results back, 1 in 180 for down syndrome, expected it to be lower with my age but low risk is low risk :) Edwards and pataus was 1 in ten thousand so everything is looking healthy at the moment :)

1990shopefulftm · 01/05/2020 12:08

No it's 1 in 100 000, baby brain and dyslexia are getting worse.

Strawberries4days · 01/05/2020 12:49

Hey has anyone had trouble to find new maternity bras online? The last one (normal bra) is so tight now and I'm struggling for sizes on what to get or there's no sizes at all 🙈 I don't want to buy one and find out doesn't fit and can't return it. Would be so much easier if I was fitted! Any good online shops that would accept returns or something?

11Eleven11 · 01/05/2020 12:53

Hi everyone!

I'm new to Mumsnet, due date is 28th October.
Having a pretty rough ride so far with constant sickness and nausea, so no bump in sight yet, I've actually lost weight so far which is worrying!
I've been on anti-sickness tablets since week 7 and I'm eating a lot better now but still can only stomach bland foods.
How is everyone else doing with sickness, has it improved in the second trimester?

1990shopefulftm · 01/05/2020 13:07

@Strawberries4days I ve not gotten non wired bras from Matalan since they re still accepting returns, I don't plan to BF so don't specifically need maternity ones.

WaveStreet · 01/05/2020 13:15

@1990shopefulftm glad you can make progress with the nursery and glad your results were good. I can't wait to shop but i am far more keen than DH!

@Strawberries4days I've just been wearing low support sports bras that are sized S M etc. until i can get measured properly, but definitely something non wired would be more comfortable.

@11Eleven11 welcome! Gald you're starting to feel better, hopefully the sickness will pass for you soon.

1990shopefulftm · 01/05/2020 13:19

@Wavestreet my DH is reasonably keen to buy things, he got excited about a Moses basket the other day. Maybe once he sees somethings he ll get excited.

FirstTimeBumps · 01/05/2020 13:38

@Strawberries4days Asda had some non wired bras that were sports. I found they gave me more support than a sports bra but weren't as uncomfy as a normal bra. I never bothered with nursing bras with #1 and just used nursing vests under another top but may actually invest in some this time round

Mc3209 · 01/05/2020 13:53

I got one from asda, sizing was easy enough (S, M, L) and is very comfy, but it's not a nursing bra. Though I am on a small side, even with pregnancy boobs (by the way, loving the extra boobbage! I've got a cleavage for once Grin). I've taken a risk and tentatively ordered one nursing bra from Morrow and Mint, after self measuring.. Let's see how well that works out.
