New to this forum so hope this is in the right place! So, I have just done a home pregnancy test and it’s definitely positive. I’m now full of a real mixture of emotions! Firstly, I am delighted! Me and my husband have been trying to conceive since November so this is something we are both delighted and excited about. However, due to the current health climate I also feel really worried and nervous! I was so excited to be able to share this experience with my mum and mother-in-law but due to them both being in high at risk groups, they are both now self isolating for 12 weeks and I guess this means I feel quite alone in it all in terms of female support. This is my first baby and so I have no clue.

I am a teacher and currently am expected to be in school at times but my understanding is that only people in their 3rd trimester need to be concerned.

In terms of the next step, do I just call the doctors as usual or have thing altered due to COVID-19?

Thanks in advance for your help 😊

Congratulations Smile, I found out I was pregnant last Monday at 12 dpo. I’m with you on the mixed emotions. I haven’t even visited a shop since last Monday. I told work the day after I had found out due to the corona virus and was told I need to be off 12 weeks. I rang my Doctors surgery and was told to ring back to book to talk to Midwife on Monday as they aren’t making any appointments in surgery due to the corona virus.

MrsERWor · 21/03/2020 22:26

I am in exactly the same position. I found out today that I'm around 5 weeks pregnant. Unplanned, but feeling blessed nevertheless. This will be our first, so I have no idea what I'm doing, or what to expect. It couldn't be any worse timing really. I will be calling my GP on Monday.

Due to COVID-19 I read that all pregnant women should work from home if possible. I can, however there's no way I planned on telling my employer about any pregnancy, this early! So much can happen in the early stages, and I'm not sure I'm comfortable with people knowing something so private this early. What the hell do I do?!

SpillTheTeaa · 21/03/2020 22:31

Congratulations!
Phone the doctors. When I was pregnant mine just got me to fill an self referral form for the midwife they didn't need to see me.
Those 12 weeks will fly by! Hopefully everything is gone by then 🤞🏼.
I thought any stage of pregnancy you had to isolate for 12 weeks?

1987Nic · 21/03/2020 22:32

Congratulations to you too @MrsERWor. I’m five weeks pregnant on Monday with my first child too. I totally understand why you wouldn’t want to tell your employer so soon. I really didn’t want to but it would have been too risky me in the job that I do. I made sure work kept it confidential and made sure they new how early on the pregnancy I was. I’ve cried so much over this terrible corona virus. You will decide what is best for you. Smile

1987Nic · 21/03/2020 22:33

*knew

1987Nic · 21/03/2020 22:34

@SpillTheTeaa Do they just do blood tests at the 12 week appointment? I’m all new to this ha.

MrsERWor · 21/03/2020 22:40

@1987Nic thanks for your reply. Congratulations to you too!
It's sure going to be an experience for us ladies!
No antenatal or mummy groups for us it would seem. My only concern is that with so much very important NHS focus needed to help cope with the virus, we might not get the same level of support and care usually offered. It's a scary thought for a first time pregnancy - although I guess we have no expectations?
I'm not sure what I'll do yet in terms of telling my employer. My husband seems to think I will be OK at work, so do I... but it's that "what if" thought that's playing on my mind.

MrsR87 · 21/03/2020 22:40

Thanks all. I’m not due in work until Wednesday so hopefully I can at least speak to someone in the know before then!

I’m 32 by the way 😃 I think I’m about 4 weeks pregnant.

@1987Nic Midwife sent me a letter for an appointment and had my first appointment when j was about 8 weeks pregnant. They do bloods on that appointment and it's usually your longest midwife appointment as they go through family history, bit of background/details about you and partner etc.
12 week scan the only bloods I had done was for testing for syndromes x

MrsR87 · 21/03/2020 22:46

Same here...I expected to have the ‘what if’ syndrome anyway when pregnant but I think with the current climate it’s a constant what if!

@MrsERWor Thank you, I’m over the moon but trying not to get too carried away. I’m sure the midwifes will do the best they can for us. It does make me a little sad knowing that I might need to go for scans alone due to this virus. It’s definitely going to be harder for us but hopefully it will have calmed down at least by the time November is here. You are totally in charge here so you can tell your employer whatever day or month you feel comfortable to.

1987Nic · 21/03/2020 22:49

@MrsR87 I’m also 32 Smile. What was the date of your last period ?

1987Nic · 21/03/2020 22:51

@SpillTheTeaa Thank you, it’s nice to know what to expect. I’m needle phobic so extra stressing about possibly needing to go to the appointment alone rather than have bf there to support me.

MrsERWor · 21/03/2020 22:54

Thanks ladies. I already feel so much better talking to you all. Especially when I can't really talk to anyone else for a good long while!
We're in this together November mums!

I'm 26 by the way! Smile

LorennaS · 21/03/2020 22:54

I found out today as well! Congrats. It is a worrying time and lots to consider. This is my first pregnancy as well - feel totally clueless!

SpillTheTeaa · 21/03/2020 22:57

@1987Nic Tell then they will take this into consideration. My midwife was great and always put me on the end of clinic so got 6pm appointments which were better for us

1987Nic · 21/03/2020 22:58

Congratulations to you too LorennaS lovely to know we are all going to be first time mums. Smile
We can all help each other. @MrsERWor

1987Nic · 21/03/2020 22:59

@SpillTheTeaa Thats good to know that they will take it into consideration. Thank you for your support.

LorennaS · 21/03/2020 23:02

Absolutely!

1987Nic · 21/03/2020 23:06

How many weeks are you ? @LorennaS

MrsR87 · 21/03/2020 23:06

@MrsERWor yes I really don’t want to do these things alone either.

Ooh!! Next question. What pregnancy symptoms have you guys been feeling?
The tell tale sign for me, before taking a test today, was that my boobs were far more tender than just usual PMS, and they are massive right now. Like never before! Haha. I also had cramp-like symptoms which I thought was just my period on it's way.
Aside from that, I've had no nausea, cravings, need to pee more etc. It's just been the boobs!
I'm only 2 days "late" for my period.

MrsR87 · 21/03/2020 23:09

@1987Nic my last period ended on Valentine’s Day.

OP posts:
MrsR87 · 21/03/2020 23:10

@MrsERWor no nausea so far...hoping this stays away for as long a possible as my mum had the thing Kate Middleton had where you get hospitalised with it! I had a few crampy pains but just assumed it was my period coming.

Sensitive nipples have been my biggest symptom and also cramps leading up to the day I got my BFP. I did feel very sick and tired last weekend but feeling not to bad at the minute. ( Not sure I would be saying this if I was still at work.) Oh I’ve also been waking up super early.
