Hey folks, survived second day of working from home with husband - yay! 🥳 All v v surreal, and rumours of a proper shutdown are a bit ominous... On the other hand, being pregnant is helping me keep a bit of perspective - feels like this little bean is still the most important thing going on 😊

MrsD1990 · 19/03/2020 06:24

@LostinAusten2 I agree, this little bean is my number 1 priority! I'm sort of hoping for a shut down though, Londoners aren't taking CV seriously. It basically looks normal outside even though most of the deaths are happening here. It's infuriating.

Spark27 · 19/03/2020 07:17

Scan day today. Ahhh, bricking it. Is there a baby in there? Is it ok? Is there only 1? Or is it only wind?! So excited and nervous x

Zaalfruit · 19/03/2020 07:41

Omg I have missed so much on here. Been in a battle at work to let me work from home. Got HR involved and now until the government says to go back to work I will be working from home. Result !!

@Spark27 good luck with your scan and to everyone else who have there scans soon. I am worried about my scan being scanned on the 25th. I just want to hit 12 weeks and for them to say everything is all good. I feel like we are all in the same boat - pregnancy is meant to be a great time and now the whole world is on shut down mode .

Does anyone have any tips for working at home - I worked from home yesterday but I found it so dull. I am worried I will get depressed due to lack of fresh air. I live on the top of a three storey and by the time I go down all the stairs and up all the stairs I’m out of breathe. It’s a lot of stairs.

Glitterbug86 · 19/03/2020 08:23

@Spark27 good luck and enjoy your scan!

@Zaalfruit can you work from a room you wouldn't ordinarily be in all day? I am working from home since Monday and am working from the spare room just so when I finish in the eve and go to the sitting room/kitchen, I don't feel like I'm in the one place all day. Same for lunch break - leave that room for an hour. And try to keep normal routine eg. I'm not staying in my pjs though it's tempting! 11am I have my usual coffee (my 1 a day!) and an orange etc

I have my scan on Tuesday. All non urgent appointments have been cancelled here but believe scans are going ahead. However, I think my husband will not be allowed in with me. Maybe my 10 week scan was a blessing in disguise as at least he got to be there.

My husband works for a company which produces ventilators (about half the global supply) - and corona is a respiratory illness so they're much needed right now. He wouldn't be able to work from home and they're trying to massively up production instead calming things down like most places... He's trying to be really careful but if he gets it I know I will. They have just had a confirmed case within the factory last night 🤦🏻‍♀️

Quiffy · 19/03/2020 09:17

@Spark27 Good luck for today!!!

Loving all the cat stories, we have 4 that are used to me being here (and ignoring me) but since DH is home it's the GREATEST TIME EVER. Little turds.

Somehow our hob got cracked overnight, no idea how but far from ideal in these times. Ive had to buy a tabletop hob as with food choices so limited I cant really do no hob and no idea when we'll be able to get it fixed right now.

Zaalfruit · 19/03/2020 09:21

@Glitterbug86 thank you for the tips. I woke up early this morning showered and did my hair . Made me feel tonnes better . We have a spare room but my husbands also working from home - I am on calls a large part of the day and he gets annoyed so we can’t share the spare room together !! I think I might buy a desk because working off the Bed is hurting my tail bone .

Ooh I hope your husband is safe and as are you x It’s so scary. Sending lots of good vibes over .

Quiffy · 19/03/2020 09:22

@zaalfruit so glad you got to work from home! I put some boring TV on in the background as it reminds me of people chattering away in the office. I also make sure I get dressed as it feels less informal.

@LostinAusten2 Agreed, I think some people are just not taking it seriously enough. Im hoping if we can lockdown a bit more it might improve quicker.

@Glitterbug86 Ive seen a few people saying about scans. Atm mine is letting in one person but will need to keep checking back. It's so sad but sensible I guess. Hopefully you get lots of photos

SkyBlue20 · 19/03/2020 09:36

Morning all!

@TheMHMummyI’m REALLY headachey at the moment, the kind of headache where you feel like your brain is rattling inside your head. Was all ready to take paracetamol but then read some advice saying it isn’t really advised in the first trimester so am just trying to ride it out. Not fun.

@BecLJ We’ve already told parents and siblings so will just tell everyone else over text. Not ideal but it’ll still be nice 😊

@TreaclePie19 I really feel for you being locked in with a four-year-old! YouTube/Cbeebies is your friend!

@spark27 Good luck with the scan! Let us know how it goes! Know what you mean about it being weird that you’re leaving without a bump and returning with one! Wow, your husband must be so busy! What an interesting but terrifying job. You must be (rightly) very proud.

@LexiM Hope your scan letter arrives soon! How long since your booking appt? You’re about 11weeks now, right? Think you’re similar to me (I’m 10+6)?

@CousCousEvaporator How do you feel about not being in work? Your planned days sound blissful!

@lucyLou37 I think it’s very easy to feel overwhelmed by it all even without pregnancy hormones playing their part, so try not to beat yourself up about it – it’s a very strange time we’re living through. I do keep getting waves of feeling really sad about it all but from today husband and I have declared a phone ban in the evenings – we realised that we were just spending ages reading about it, looking on Twitter, checking Facebook and whatnot and it isn’t helping. So during the day we can do what we need to but the evenings are ours to enjoy. Time will tell if it helps!

@Zaalfruit So glad everything is sorted with work now, not fair that you had to battle for it though! In terms of working from home, can you go for a little walk on your lunchbreak, just to get out a bit?

@Glitterbug I’m hearing more and more that hospitals aren’t letting partners in – told my husband and he’s gutted, I said if that's the case for us, I’ll ask if I can Facetime him while he sits in the car in the carpark. God forbid, but if the worst happens we’d need each other! Wow, your husband must be so busy, too. What a crazy time. Hope he manages to avoid it.

@Quiffy How frustrating about the hob! My cat also MUCH prefers my husband to me, traitor. Though she has taken to lying on me a lot more since I got pregnant!

Must say, it’s so nice having you all to talk to through all of this – it’s so hard trying to chat to people about it all but not mention what is my biggest concern personally! A week today and all being well we can tell everyone, I cannot wait!!

Treaclepie19 · 19/03/2020 09:54

Thanks @SkyBlue20 he is climbing the walls! But still, it's a small price to pay to keep us all safe.
I'm not expecting to be able to take DH to the scan. Given the circumstances at the moment I'm okay with it. I feel bad for him but theres nothing that can be done.
If it's bad news again I'll manage. I've been through it all before.

Spark27 · 19/03/2020 10:08

Hey ladies, just a quick update. All good here, baby measuring a few days ahead so now 12w 5d and edd is 27th Sep. They said the Nuchal looked to be good, brain looked to be developing normally, kidneys seem to be working. Very happy. Will update with picture later. Hospital was nice a quiet so all really quick. xx

Quiffy · 19/03/2020 10:09

@SkyBlue20 Three of the four love DH more. The fourth just loves his radiator. I do feel like they would swap me for another woman in a heartbeat haha. One really liked lying me at the start of being pregnant now he thinks Im a pukey mess haha. I really miss my old cat who loved me more than anything. I fully expect them to love the baby as well. I'm just the problem ahaha.

@Treaclepie19 You're brave and strong and everything will be perfect. You've got this

Treacle81 · 19/03/2020 10:11

Morning ladies. Update from RCOG Q4: Why are pregnant women in a vulnerable group?
A: Pregnant woman were placed in a vulnerable group by the Chief Medical Officer on 16th March. This means you have been advised to reduce social contact through social distancing measures.

Based on the evidence we have so far, pregnant women are still no more likely to contract coronavirus than the general population. What we do know is that pregnancy in a small proportion of women can alter how your body handles severe viral infections. This is something that midwives and obstetricians have known for many years and are used to dealing with. As yet, there is no evidence that pregnant women who get this infection are more at risk of serious complications than any other healthy individuals.

What has driven the decisions made by officials is a desire to be very cautious about pregnant women. We know that some viral infections are worse in pregnant women. At the moment, there’s no evidence that this is the case for coronavirus infection, but the amount of evidence is still quite limited.
Q5: What do I need to do now?
A: All pregnant women should follow the PHE advice:
• Guidance on social distancing for all vulnerable people including pregnant women
• Guidance for individuals and households with possible coronavirus infection
Q6: Can I still go to work?
A: Pregnant women who can work from home should do so. If you can’t work from home, if you work in a public-facing role that can be modified appropriately to minimise your exposure, this should be considered and discussed with your occupational health team.

More detailed advice for pregnant women, including those who cannot work from home, such as healthcare workers, is being developed and will be made available as soon as possible. seems a little less frightening xx

That's amazing news @Spark27

Thank you @Quiffy, I do hope so ❤

SkyBlue20 · 19/03/2020 10:20

Great news @Spark27, so happy for you!

@Quiffy They're not very blooming loyal are they, cats?! 😂 I don't know how ours will be with the baby - she's a little baby herself and very spoilt so I think it might put her nose out of joint a bit. We're also worried about her lying on the baby or something as she sleeps with us at the moment, is quite inquisitive and loves cuddles just before bed and as we wake up. Have seen that you can buy nets to put over the crib so may have to try one of them!

Quiffy · 19/03/2020 10:20

@spark27 Wonderful news!!! Very exciting

Quiffy · 19/03/2020 10:31

@SkyBlue20 we have that worry too, plus ours can be very naughty at night waking us up for badness. I think our plan at them moment is to lock them out the bedroom at night as they don't really sleep in bed anyway. I feel guilty but they have the run of our home, lots of beds and perches about. We only plan to have baby in a bedside one for 6 months, so it's only temporary. The guilt though... Just need to make sure they get lots of attention. The net is a really good idea, might need for a backup plan!

MrsD1990 · 19/03/2020 12:50

@spark27 yay that's amazing news! Glad everything looks great and you got to be in and out quickly!

Our NHS scan is on Wednesday but things are escalating so quickly (heard London will be on lockdown soon) that we are very worried our appointment will be cancelled. I'm so worried about little bean so we booked a private appointment last minute today (£45 so not too bad). Won't be as good as my 12 week one because I'm only 11 weeks and so they said they will literally just be able to date but at this point I just want to know little bean is still ok - especially if my 12 week one does get cancelled (hopefully it won't be in which case we'll do both).

Spark27 · 19/03/2020 13:27

@MrsD1990, I asked when I was there what the plan was with scans and she said that while they discussed the possibility of cancelling them, they decided that they are so important that they really didn't want to, and thought it was less risk, medically, to continue them. Although I suppose this does depend on the current situation, and the situation in your location. She did say they were considering not allowing anyone else to attend with you, so wanted to prepare me of that possibility for my 20w scan.

It is a very worrying time for all. But the hospital that I was in was the emptiest I've ever seen it. There was hand sanitizer everywhere. People were sitting apart. And everything ran smoothly and quickly.

I think were going to book a private scan for about 17w so we can find out the gender and take my DD with us. If theres a possibility DH may not be able to come to the 20w I'd like to get an earlier one so we can find out gender together. And it will help it seem real to DD. x

Treacle81 · 19/03/2020 13:46

Glad to hear it wasnt just wind 🤣@Spark27. it’s so exciting that we are all approaching )if not on) second trimester! xx

OP posts:
Quiffy · 19/03/2020 14:02

@MrsD1990 Good idea on the scan good luck!

@Spark27 I think I will arrange the gender scan if DH cant go, sounds like a lovely way for the 3 of you to find out together. I had planned on taking my parents to a private one at 17 weeks and having a fun day out but that's out the window now. Feeling sorry for them, feels like they're missing out on loads as now not supposed to travel and not seen them since start of Feb.

Think my 12 week nerves are kicking in. It feels like an age since the 8 week scan so worried. 12 days to go!

CouscousEvaporator · 19/03/2020 14:27

Thanks for that info @Treacle81

@Spark27 glad it went well and wasn’t wind!!!
My nerves are kicking in too @quiffy. I haven’t had any scans yet! :( I really hope all is ok in there

Quiffy · 19/03/2020 14:35

@CouscousEvaporator It's so worrying isn't it, like others have said, what if it's just a big ball of gas making us sick. When is your scan?

CouscousEvaporator · 19/03/2020 15:00

Yes I’m worried I’ve made the whole thing up and the 15 pregnancy tests I took are wrong 😂😆

Scan is next Thursday so not too long. Really hope DH can make it!

Lucylou37 · 19/03/2020 15:52

@Spark27 so happy to hear your scan went well! I bet the excitement levels have gone up a notch xxxx
