Hi everybody. I am back from my vacation in Ireland. Weather was pretty wet, but otherwise very nice.

Hello to everybody who joined the thread in the last 10 days!

I was so happy to read about Uki's good news (at last the outcome of these 2.5 horrifiec hours) and at the same time saddened about Jules bad news. Life and death are so close when being pregnant and giving birth. Its mind-puzzling.

Levi -- welcome and many congratulations to Uki! I am glad that the belly button is under control. August 16 is such a lovely birth date.

Jules -- I am so very sorry to hear about peeps. Words cannot express my sorrow for you and your little one. I do not know if you still read this thread but I hope you will recover fast and join us soon again. I was always impressed by your positive attitude and hope it can help you through it all.

Feedmenow - one of the reasons I think that they've chilled out a bit where I'm concerned is that I've made it perfectly clear to them that I'm not going to do anything that might put the baby at risk - this is my last ditch effort to have another child, and I don't want to do anything to jeopardise the health of my child (which, although the risks of pph are very small, but still larger than the average person in the street, is why I've decided not to push for a hbac, which was my ideal at the start).

I'm fortunate in that I'm under a trust that are now promoting "normality" where birth is concerned - and are actively encouraging non-medicalised birth for low-risk women. I've gone in there with my arguments sorted, and my head on straight, and have calmly, but firmly told them that I am declining the package of care that they offer to vbac women, as it's not right for me.
The midwives have also accepted that my feelings that my C section last time was down to flawed trust policy are not far off the mark ...

However, I've also made it very clear that if things do go t!ts up, that I'm not messing around with drips and goodness knows what else, as they had a bad effect on me last time - in that case, I'll opt straight away for a repeat C section - but (for me at least), it's important to know that I've given it my best shot.

"But Miss H, you're having quads/got placenta problems/your fanny has healed shut from underuse (delete as appropriate)and there is absolutely no way you can have a VBAC" - love the fanny sealed from underuse bit!!

It's not a case of backtracking if things go wrong, it'll just be a change of plan ... and, the senior midwife who I've been talking to has told me that she's hoping she's on duty when I come in as it'll be a first for her to have a vbac woman labouring in the pool! (am quite about that ... but if it makes it easier for others ....)

Feedmenow · 21/08/2007 18:41

Well in which case ejt, you are an example to others! I hope it goes well for you when your time comes, and I hope that when my time comes I follow your lead!

Ellie, I know what you mean about the tiredness effecting the potential "sealing". Mw today told me that as I had the bleed at the w/end I should a) avoid straining on the loo and b) avoid sex! I thought those sorts of recommendations were old wives tales!!

Excellent news on the h/beat VV!
I don't know much about pre-eclampsia - if it is looking likely are there things you can do to try and prevent it?

bumpkin32 · 21/08/2007 20:59

Great to read all your messages and know that people are feeling the same way as me.
Now in pg3 after 2 m/c - first was mmc and not discovered till 12 week scan and second m/c at 6 weeks.
Due 20 April (and on the due April thread) - went to dr today for booking appt and asked for early scan - need to know asap that all is ok.
Have had m/s this time and didn't really suffer other times so keeping fingers crossed and hoping symptons continue - I really do!

Mollyfloss · 21/08/2007 22:30

Bumpkin32, I'm on the due April thread too but don't want to talk too much about mc over there as don't want to freak the others out. It's so normal to be worried and you'll get all the support you need here. I had an mc in May and found out in week 12 scan. We even saw the heartbeat in week 8 and I had terrribles morning sickness. However, I think I was really unlucky to mc as morning sickenss is a good sign and once you see a foetal heartbeat there is a great chance that everything will be ok (see Mumpbump comment on 20-Aug-07 18:19:54) . I'd say if you didn't have morning sickness before and have it now it is probably a very good sign for you. Fingers crossed all goes well!

VictorVictoria · 21/08/2007 22:39

Hi feedmenow

I dont think preeclampsia is on on particularly easy thing to predict. And its meant to predominantly affect first pregnancies. But with high booking blood pressure (although almost certainly stress related) she is going to keep on on very beady eye on me.
Btw for all those who have read lesley regan's book on miscarriage, she is my consultant and has been so for over 10 years.

EllieG · 21/08/2007 22:51

Good news VV! Glad your LO is doing well.
Have practically no symptoms today. Not feeling sick, plenty energy (went to gym for big session!) boobs don't hurt and only slightly crampy. Do you think everything's OK? Comes to something when you worry about feeling well eh?

Uki · 22/08/2007 05:08

Glimmer- HI welcome back from hol, irelenad wouldn't be ireland without rain would it?

Bumpkin- WELCOME, hope you have a wonderful an uneventful 8 months

VV- i had pre elampsia for Ds1 and this time, I was on asprin and extra calcium to prevent BP going up, BP was lowest it's been in a decade, just went up at the end on DD, but probably was a bit relieved to be induced again, as was well over pg by then. have been alot healthy this time, did not need medication before or after birth and BP went straight back down.

Ejt- your ds birth sounds nightmarish, poor thing . i just narrowily avoided c/s after ds1 too, after 17 hours dr. was too busy to come and midwife did her best to help me push after 3 hours straight pushing he arrived. The main thing is they arrive, isn't it, I think 95% of births are barbaric torture though. i'd love to hear from anyone who enjoyed labour.

Morning all! Boing, boing, boing! Thats me going up and down like a yo-yo!!

Uki, was about to ask why on earth you were posting so early in the morning, then immediately realised the reason you are up so early....had forgotten all that malarky!

Spoke to private scan place and asked them if they thought I should go back in again. The lovely lady said that as I had a good scan Thurs pm and the bleed was dark brown Sunday am it would indicate old blood and (I think she was saying) whatever caused the bleed would probably already have happened when I had my scan 3 days before. And babe was OK then, so would probably be fine. Does this sound likely? How "old" is old blood? Anyway, dp reckons we should just go again anyway, but I feel a little more reassured now. I told him that if he calls and books then I'll go again, but he's far too lazy to do something like that!!

VV, what was your booking BP? And why were you so stressed at the time - nerves or other issues? My mw yesterday took mine and asked if I fall over a lot (I replied "only when drunk!") cos my BP is so low. She even took it again to check. My BP has always stayed low in pg and I can't help but wonder if it has adverse effects...anyone know anything about this?

Fettle, how did the scan go yesterday? Hope all is OK......

MerlinsBeard · 22/08/2007 11:39

feedmenow, brown blood is old blood she is right, thats why some wonem spot brown at the start of their period. She sounds like she knows what she is talking about re seeing any probs when you had your previous scan.

I had low bp with ds1 (considerably higher with ds2 lol) and it meant i went light headed a lot but i found polos really useful, sugary to keep the glucose in my blod up. at least thats what i told myself i don't know if it works or not! It may just ne that naturally your bp is low anyway.

my sickness is back we have some honey, vanilla and chamomile teabags in the cupboard and when i opened it i just gagged...hate the smell of honey anyway. feel all squirly today but happier

MrsMcJnr · 22/08/2007 12:26

Hello

MOM ? it?s funny how your own pregnancy seems to pass much faster for others than for you have to ay, my MS seems to be coming back that?s very annoying about your MW how many weeks do you think you are now? Like the anti MS measures you?ve taken!

EllieG ? I didn?t know about the milk leakage either. I?ve not had any but there are a few on my AN thread who?ve had lots remember hon, we all have good days and bad days, enjoy the good ones!

Mollyfloss ? I think you just have to take each day as it comes with MS did you manage dinner ok?

Hello Daisy

Mumpbump ? know what you mean about work hope it gets better LOL at your sis, have to say though, those early weeks are really rough aren?t they?

Ejt ? good philosophy on the weight, it?s not our priority at the mo hope the pain isn?t too bad today. Re rights at birth ? go girl! have to say, that is a big reason why I am having a doula

Feedmenow ? hope you felt better after the MW appointment. That?s great about the VBAC think you probably can buy the book on ebay, I got mine on Amazon. PMSL at your terms it is a fine line between understanding what has to be done and what the hospital want you to do for their own reasons I think. Makes sense to me what they said about old blood. I thought brown blood meant it wasn?t from a bleed in the last 24 hours. You have to do what makes you feel best though.

Fab news Uki! what a relief!! PMSL at ECAVB! Will get calcium results today at MW hopefully.

Thanks Beckle

Hi Fettle big boy! MW told us the other night not to have labour worries because we?d all be so calm on the day ? sounded like a lie to me!

Welcome back Glimmer glad you had a good time.

Great news VV, hoping to come back with similar news this afternoon from MW, nervous as hell about it as always my doula told me to insist that the MW came to my house to take my BP if it continues to worry them in case it is from ?white coat fear?. Lucky you with your consultant I read her Miscarriage book and it led to my blood issues being diagnosed, I will be forever grateful

Bumpkin32 ? welcome and congratulations!

Mollyfloss · 22/08/2007 12:37

Got through dinner last night but only because I was able to take a 3hr nap before. This morning I woke up feeling awful - thought I would never get from the bedroom to the kitchen just to get something in my stomach. Even cereal made me nautious this morning! In the end I managed a banana. I guess all I can do is take it one day at a time

MerlinsBeard · 22/08/2007 12:38

MrsMcJnr, sorry your MS is back

i don't know what you mean about my anti MS remedies..it comes and goes!

i am 10 weeks according to lots of sites but could be 9/10.

Started bleeding at 10 weeks last time so am avoiding the loo unless i am bursting

Uki · 22/08/2007 12:55

feedme- i'm up early coz i'm in Oz, 10 hours in front

low BP has no adverse affects, apart from light headness and fainting, high BP damages organs- kidneys, liver, etc and decreases life span
Sorry to hear of old blood, can you just go for hb listen?
mrs mc- i think whtie coat syndrome is about 10 points higher, this was true for me too, always a bit higher at dr's, but if it really is up alot 10 doesnn't matter much.

i have now posted full birth story

Hi all,

I am having a good day today, so need to come and share it with you, as I'm aware I've been doing a lot of me me me posts recently

So, why am I having a good day?

... it's sunny

... ds has gone to play with a friend for the afternoon

.. the bed shop has phoned to say our new bed is being delivered tomorrow

... I just got off the phone to our mortgage company to arrange the payment break for the mortgage - and it took all of 5 minutes - I was astounded! I was expecting the 3rd degree!

... C (who was going to be my doula last year, but not this year as she's started mw training) got in touch with me and she can definitely be my doula as she's managed to swing it with college This is the best piece of news!!

Hi to everybody - hoping that everybody else is having a good day - and that the MS monster goes away (if you want it to that is, and it won't make you panic!)

Am now going to make a headboard ...

Feedmenow · 22/08/2007 15:33

Uki - aaah, so you weren't up early at all! Don't know why I never cottoned on before that you are in Oz! Thanks for the bp info - I didn't think I had anything to worry about with it. I suppose I'm quite lucky really, seeing as it doesn't even seem to make me light headed or faint.

Ejt, glad you are having a good day. But exactly what are you planning to make a headboard from? Very Blue Peter it all sounds! And is the new bed cos the old one is knackered after all the action it saw whilst making this LO ?????

Well, I have booked another scan - I can't stand the worry! It doesn't help that since the w/end I have felt less nauseous and tired and more crampy, but I am also aware that these changes could easily be imagined on my part. Anyway, I kind of had choices in my head of buying a couple of things (bump belt, & maybe some maternity trews) before 12 weeks OR going for another scan. I don't really see the point in spending money on things I may not need (in worst case scenario) and I don't know that I'll be able to relax at all over b/holiday w/end when I am so nervous. So back I go this afternoon! Lets just hope there are no more bleeds after this!!

ejt1764 · 22/08/2007 15:44

feedmenow - thinking of you at your scan ... fingers crossed!

As for the headboard, I've got a load of chocolate brown suede (effect) fabric, which I'm sewing pin tucks into, then we're going to attach it to a piece of mdf which he has had cut to size (there is a foam layer in the middle too!)

And why have we bought a new bed? Because we bought our old one when we first moved in together (1993 to realise it's that long ago!), and it's getting a bit on the creaky side ... the bed has a pocket sprung mattress topped with a memory foam layer ... hmmmmmmm - now I have to hope that my waters don't break on it! (Methinks I should buy a waterproof mattress protector!

Am off to pick up ds and his friend to take them to a party ... go-karts - I think I'll take my book!

EllieG · 22/08/2007 16:13

That's so impressive! I can barely make a cup of tea.

Feedmenow · 22/08/2007 18:34

Hooray! Now I really do feel better! 9+5 today, heartbeat going strong along with fabby looking frogs-legs and little arms with fingers. Even able to see the 2 halves of the brain! And only 19 days to go til next scan.
So bleed forgotten about, and onwards and upwards for me and my bubba!
Ejt, if the headboard goes well maybe you could go into business cos I could do with one too!
Am off galavanting across the country tomorrow to visit a friend so won't be logging on. Hope everyone has a good day!

spugs · 22/08/2007 19:30
