Bad mummy! But does sound like a lovely plan. What are you going to see? I took DSD to see a salsa show recently and she LOVED it, her little eyes were so wide all the way through she was just beaming, was so nice to see.

becklespeckle · 26/09/2007 11:26

Morning all!

Welcome DonDons, congrats on your pg and scan! Glad the thread helped you too, hopefully the rest of your pg will be very very boring!

Glad you are resting Ejt, keep it up hun!

Ejb, wonder if the bulges you get at the side are little hands? I tend to get them both sides at the same time which is what makes me think baby is transverse, also bump is getting higher up with a flattish bit at the bottom so I can only guess LO is running out of sideways room lower down! MW appt next week although am sure LO will go nicely head down for that one! Hope you get some answers about your itching today!

MrsMc, yes it is very odd when they kick down! Half expect to see a little foot or hand poking out! Don't remember the DSs ever kicking downwards but then they were nearly always head down (although DS2 was slightly diagonal too).

Hi to everyone else - hope you are all okay!

MrsMcJnr · 26/09/2007 12:57

Welcome DonDons congratulations!!! glad we?ve been helping you!

Ejb ? hope it all goes ok today with the blood tests. I did watch the programme, I?m with you, all three methods seemed extreme but I certainly thought the militant method was heart breaking

Bouncing ? thanks for the tip about the council, I?ll look into that

Feedmenow ? he, he naughty mummy love it!

Hey Beckle, EllieG & Ejt

positive · 26/09/2007 13:37

Hi everyone,

sorry that i dont post too often, still worried about having 12wk scan which is friday next week (as i had mmc after my 12wk scan last year). am feeling pretty miserable at the moment and just seem to want to moan about things at present - i'm tired i've been sick 2 days in a row and I want chocolate and coffee but they make me sick right now!
sorry for the moan.

for everyone who has had new arrivals and bfp's thats great hope all goes well.
for everyone thats hope you feel better soon.

good vibes and happy thoughts to everyone (including myself)

flosspot · 26/09/2007 14:35

sending you happy thoughts!!!

MrsMcJnr · 26/09/2007 15:36

All the best for next week Positive and I hope you feel a lot better soon!

gingercat12 · 26/09/2007 15:39

Sorry for disappearing. Work is quite hectic. Hope everyone is fine [waving madly]

Been to see MW, and heard v strong HB. It made my day!!!! Although it tried to hide, the little naughty, but MW hunted it down And I did not have to stand on the scales, because I look 'spot on' as MW said. {She might have just been polite.}

becklespeckle · 26/09/2007 16:06

Positive, its natural to feel anxious before scans, especially if you've had a mmc which you had no idea about. Fingers crossed that everything will be fine this time for you, being off of Choc and Coffee is a good sign!
Glad you got a strong HB Gingercat! Is always reassuring to hear!

Anyway ladies, has anyone else noticed we are getting dangerously near the 1000 messages mark??? Any suggestions for a new thread name?

becklespeckle · 26/09/2007 16:11

How about:

"Pregnancy after miscarriage - helping each other through it"

or

"Pregnancy after miscarriage - invaluable support and friendship"

???

MrsMcJnr · 26/09/2007 16:56

or "Pg after MC - healthy and well, healthy and well"

spugs · 26/09/2007 16:57

ooo crap, rubbish at thinking of new thread names!

how about pregnancy after mc - the long haul

i have given in and bought a tumble dryer in between dd2s reusable nappies and dd1s bed wetting (were talking 2 full sets of bedding a night, every night) ive bought one. im snowed under with laundry and just cant get it dry, so hopefully after massive initial use catching up ill only need to use it now and again

hellooooo everybody

DonDons · 26/09/2007 18:14

I definately subscribe to 'Pregnancy after miscarriage - invaluable support and friendship'.

Positive - good luck with your scan - I know how you feel! Sending you positive vibes It's so hard trying to fill your bladder with water and not go to the loo every 5 minutes for an hour before.

Thanks everyone for your congrats etc - not quite uneventful so far - morning sickness pretty bad since 6 weeks and had some bleeding at 10 weeks (hence the early scan -- unexplained and nothing to worry about). Had a chronic night last night retching all night but I'm not complaining IYKWIM. Anyway, seem to be settling down now.

Anyone else got an aversion to ginger - used to love the stuff but cannot be in the same room as it now!

flosspot · 26/09/2007 18:39

But ginger is supposed to help with sickness, DOndon.....poor you.

With you on the thread name too- it is invaluable!

Mumpbump · 26/09/2007 19:03

Evening all! I'm not doing very well at keeping up and don't have much of an excuse as Joseph is a sleepy little tyke - feeds and then sleeps, then feeds and sleeps... But have been spending my days cuddling him lots and admiring his cute little face! Dh has said that he will help me get some photos on here so hopefully, I might manage that in the not too distant future...

Fettle - your birth sounds pretty dramatic as well. I must say that I was very glad that I didn't have to be induced in the end as it does seem quite common for it to be a very long process. Your children are gorgeous! What a lovely looking little girl...

Uki - how cute that Levi is so orientates towards you... Sounds like all is going well in your household!

MrsMcJnr - Joseph is very much a little piggy and keeps making funny little squealing and squeaking sounds. It makes me think of you given that you are responsible for the pig-related theme in the October antenatal thread! I have to confess to being a disposable user. I started off using them when ds1 was small because when you're going through 10+ nappies a day, the amount of washing that it generates would be horrendous, unenvironmentally friendly and very time-consuming when you just want to enjoy your new baby. I would probably put him in reusables now that he only have about 4/5 nappies in the day, but his nursery provide disposables anyway and I do think disposables are better overnight as they are more absorbent so the baby doesn't get uncomfortable and you can get more sleep.

EJT - Make sure you keep getting plenty of rest!! Even though Joseph is feeding infrequently - only once in the night at the moment - I am still having at least a couple of hours sleep in the middle of the day. I had forgotten how much the birthing process and breastfeeding takes it out of you. You need to get in as much rest now as the nesting urge will let you. My money's on your one being next!! I like your tip about using vaseline on the baby's bottom to make it easier to clean off the meconium - wish I'd thought of that!!

Beckle - when I was pg with ds, I read that mothers who eat chocolate in pg have more content babies - no idea if it's true, but it's a great way to justify chocolate consumption. Also, dark chocolate is very good for iron levels...

EJB - I had really severe itching and they never got around to prescribing anything. I did ask the antenatal clinic if I definitely had OC - am assuming your blood tests are for this - and they simply said that the consultant would look at my results and discuss the possibility with me. So I think you can have quite severe itching without it necessarily being a conclusive symptom of OC. They did prescribe me piriton to help with the itching which didn't seem to work much, but I hate to think how much worse it would have been otherwise...

EllieG - I think the 12 week scan is pretty much the most scary point in a pg after m/c because it's such a defining point. I remember feeling like I was going a bit crazy in the run up to mine because I was terrified that it would be bad news. I will keep my fingers crossed for you...

Feedmenow - hope you had a nice afternoon with your dd. Sounds like a great plan!!

Re: the parenting programme - there was a thread a little while ago about Verity Claire or Claire Verity or whatever her name is... I watched the programme and felt so sorry for the little babies whose parents have opted for her methodology. But I think that my approach is probably half-way between Spock and the Continuum thingy - I used a soft sling with ds and am using it again with Joseph and believe in lots of physical contact with very young babies as it must be a huge shock to them to be out in the big wide world.

Hello to everyone else and all the new posters - congratulations on your bfp's and wishing you all quiet stays on this thread...

Janus · 26/09/2007 19:46

Hello again,
Ejt, how many weeks are you, are you nearly 40? How exciting to think you will soon meet your little one!
Fingers crossed for you positive, my mc was a missed mc too and am terrified of the scans, do you mean your mc was picked up at your 12 weeks scan or even later than that? Sorry if this is too nosey, just keep thinking when I make it to 12 weeks I can relax a bit more.
Well done Dondons, seeing that wonderful scan must have been such a relief, hope everything continues to be fine.
Feedmenow, I think more of us should sneak our kids out and give them a special day. I bet you will remember it even more because it was a little bit 'naughty', hope you enjoyed your show.
My morning sickness feeling has now moved to the evening. Funny how this morning, because I wasn't feeling ill, I automatically worried something had gone wrong. Never thought I'd feel better by feeling ill!
I'm off to stare at the contents of the fridge hoping something may look appetising, doubtful!

positive · 26/09/2007 20:24

Hi Janus,

you're not being nosey, sharing our experiences is a good thing - wish I had known about MN after my mc - I found it hard to talk to anyone about what happened and sharing here may help someone else which I think is great.
I only found out about the mmc at 19wks when I started to bleed but LO had died at 11 +6, the day after my scan. I still had nausea up to about 15wks and had felt the LO move - later I was told in hosp that this was blood clots - sorry if this is TMI. afterwards found out he had loads of medical probs and this is why he had died.
This is why i'm worrying so much -- also had a scare earlier on in this pregnancy and had to go to the EPC for a scan at 8 +2.

Sorry really TMI, dont want to frighten anyone.
I am positive about my scan but there is always a worry - from talking to others this is true for ladies who have had no problems - just something that is part and parcel of becoming a parent.

Good vibes and positive thoughts

ejt1764 · 26/09/2007 20:36

Evening all ... very quickly - have promsied dh I'll proof-read a report he's written ...

feedmenow - I'm in my 2nd year of learning Welsh - but I have something of an advantage, as dh's first language is Welsh, and he has only ever spoken to ds in Welsh: I've picked quite a bit up just through osmosis. I decided to formalise my learning as ds goes to a Welsh-medium school, and I want to be able to help with homework! I'm really enjoying it - more so, as everybody else in the class is also a parent at the school ... we can use our experiences with our kids, and find out what it is they're talking about!

Did you enjoy the theatre?

Bouncing - my council has absolutely no incentive schemes for reusables at all ... not impressed!

ejb - the spinning babies site is really useful for baby mapping ...

positive - healthy and well, healthy and well!

MrsMc - waving madly at you!

gingercat - good to hear that all is ok with you and lo.

DonDons - I have had hyperemesis twice, and can totally get where you are coming from with the ginger thing ... it 's the food of the devil! I've found mint a good substitute! Buy a mint plant, and chop a few leaves off it, and put boiling water on it - instant mint tea!

mumpbump - good to hear from you - I don't inend going washable right from the word go either ... I didn't with ds either ... I also intend using disposables at night this time around too - feel a bit guilty about it, but never mind ...

janus - it's very unfair to get evening sickness ... yuck!!

Well, my official due date is Friday (scan date) ... my date is next Tuesday (ov. date) ... will be seeing the acupuncturist on Friday for her to give my system a bit of a nudge ... then intend doing all the usual things - we'll be having curry on Friday night for a start ... oh, and dh has been warned to brace himself!

Had a good hydro session today -then lunch with a friend, then parents' evening ... it's been a bit of a conveyor belt today!

Right, must proof read this report for dh!!

DonDons · 26/09/2007 20:46

for some reason onight the only thing that is working is a big slab of chocolate lol!

Bouncingturtle · 26/09/2007 20:58

EJT - My council has only introduced it very recently, so maybe yours may introduce one in the near future?
Feedmenow - in my case it is the borough council - whoever you pay your council tax to.
Mumpbump - glad to see little Joseph is thriving
Bit of a short message from me, so very tired!
Hello to everyone else

DonDons · 26/09/2007 21:07

EJT - sorry if this a daft Q but how do you know the diff between morning sickness and hyperemesis? MW didn't seem that interested when I saw her.... I do tend to keep stuff down in the middle of the day - it's just first thing in the morning and any time after 7ish... with the odd day off now and then! - thanks for the mint tip - I'll raid the garden tomo... any idea is spearmint and camomile is safe?

Flosspot - lemon drops seem to work sometimes.....!

becklespeckle · 27/09/2007 00:53

Evening all, just popped on for a quick catch up before I go to bed, can't go straight up when I get in from work - need to wind down first!

Spugs, marvellous things tumble dryers! I would be lost without mine when the weather is rubbish! I tend to use it less in the winter though, just for sheets and towels, as I stick everything on the radiators!

Mumpbump, glad Joseph is settling in well - would love to see some pics so let us know when you put them on please! As for chocolate, I like the thought of it making baby content, not that it does at the moment - makes him/her go mad! (Likes ice cream too...). Have to confess though it is not nice healthy dark chocolate I am wanting at the moment but big yummy Toblerone! Shame because keeping iron levels up sounds like a really good excuse to me!

Positive, what an awful time you had, how heartbreaking to go so long without knowing you had m/c. My first died at 12 1/2 weeks and I found out at nearly 16 weeks at a routine scan. Had I not insisted on a scan then (had one at 6 weeks so they didn't think I needed another before 20) I would prob not have found out until much later. Your poor little boy , they did tests on mine too but they found nothing wrong, just one of those things. It is so understandable why you are worried this time, will you be past your 'danger' stage when you have your scan next week?

FMN, hope you and DD enjoyed the show!

MrsMc, healthy and well was the first thread title that came to mind when I was trying to think of one! Hope no-one minds but I have taken the liberty of starting the new thread before we run out of room. I went for the 'invaluable support' title in the end as a couple of people mentioned it and that is exactly what this thread has been to me x

Hi to everyone else, see you over on the new thread

Bouncingturtle · 27/09/2007 07:48

Hello Domdons and congrats! A woman with Hyperemesis Gravidum, generally has no respite from severe nausea, vomits many times each day and finds that eating or drinking makes her feel worse, leading to weight loss rather than gain. If this continues without treatment, she becomes dehydrated and malnourished. Some women also suffer from ptyalism, which means that they cannot swallow their own saliva without vomiting.
If you cannot keep anything down, you need to speak to your midwife, sometimes a hospital stay is required to replenish your fluid levels. You can also get drugs which can reduce the vomiting.
If you are managing to keep stuff down during the day, it is highly unlikely you have HG.
Good morning everyone. It is my 4th wedding anniversary today, DH and I are going to have a cosy night in, been to get some posh grub from MArks to cook for dinner tonight including a profitrole stack

MrsMcJnr · 27/09/2007 13:27

Afternoon ladies growth scan went well this morning, the baby is quite big for dates and they seemed pleased. It was kicking about, yawning, drinking etc, looked really human, it was fantastic I?ll post new pics as soon as I have time. I think the baby?s profile is just like my DH?s. This was where the fun ended though, went to see my Consultant who took one look at me and asked if we?d been away, when I said we hadn?t and that I thought being brown was a nice side effect she got quite worried and looked at my scars to see the pigment. Apparently this coupled with my sudden high blood pressure could mean that I have Addison?s disease which I understand means that your adrenal glands don?t produce enough cortisol. So, they took a whole load of blood and because it wasn?t long after my daily heparin jab, the blood wouldn?t stop flowing which was a bit messy. Then I had to have a very sore cortisol jab in my bum DH found that very funny. Then we had to wait 30 mins to see what happened before more blood tests. I felt so weird like I?d had a few cans of Red Bull and Beanie was kicking like mad! We go to Spain at 5am so they are rushing the results through this afternoon but chances are if I need medication, I?ll need to get it in Spain. What a palaver! Anyway, I shall try and catch up before I sign off for a week but I do have loads of work to do so I hope you all keep well and whilst I will try and log on during the week, I might not be able to.

Will be thinking of our Grande Dames and will be hoping the rest of you stay healthy and well xx

EllieG · 27/09/2007 20:29
