EllieG i dunno if its normal or not (sorry) but i have been the same. more windy and although i had a bit of a podge before, i definatly do now.am either 8 or 9 weeks.

definatly felt 'fatter' from about 5/6 weeks.

I struggle with EDs from time to time so that freaked me out for a while.

Daisyboo, oddly i never felt the need to talk about my mc as much as i feel i need to know! its like it justifies everything i feel about this pg!

EllieG · 19/08/2007 21:33

Me too MOM - have been a bit weird about food and a bit ED'd for years and although mostly stable, this is kinda throwing me off....was a bit chubby before, and am freaking out a bit about looking VERY chubby at 5 weeks! But maybe I just have to chill - am only gonna get bigger (hopefully!). THing is it took me a little while to lose the bloatedness and flab last time, and I didn't end up with a baby, which I thought was most unfair. So this time, I thought I would be really careful what I ate at first so didn't gain much too fast, but that all seems to have gone out the window, hey ho.

rubles · 20/08/2007 09:20

I take it ED is eating disorder? Is that overeating or under eating for you both?

Lots of the weight gain at this stage could just be water retention, especially if you are managing (how???) to eat sensibly. I remember feeling very bloated and wobbly in the belly and the boobs in the first few weeks and I thought it looked so obvious to all those around me, but I don't think it was.

But then again the body does do funny things in pregnancy. At around 24-30 weeks (ish) I was eating really well and carefully but was putting on soooo much weight that I couldn't explain - maybe about 3lb a week or more (can't remember exactly, I just remember being horrified). But now I seem to have plateaued, even though my eating hasn't changed. I'm sure they grow in fits and spurts.

pinkrangerstartstowaddle · 20/08/2007 09:23

Just thought i would drop in ( as i occasionally do ) and say hi , Positive Vibes to all you in the early days, i know how so hard it can be!

UKI _ CONGRATULATIONS on baby levi! hope that he is o.k and there is not to much stress for you!

Daisy - HElLOOOO - i saw you post no my Ante natal thread, thank you, cant believe that i am nearly there! only 2 days to go, and you know that he is going to be late!!! Typical man!

Hope that everyone else is well and good luck to allx

BellaBear · 20/08/2007 09:28

I'm still holding off on joining the Feb AN thread, because I'm such a wuss and now I don't want to even more!

ejt1764 · 20/08/2007 09:35

Morning all - I hope everybody is well! I've been away for a few days to the Festival of Quilts in Birmingham, and although I've had a lovely time, I'm utterly exhausted, and am aiming to have a very quiet week now!

Hope all is well with everybody - just to say that in the early days I felt like I was constantly burping / farting ... sometimes at the same time! I also had terrible constipation ... yuk!

As for the weight gain - I put on weight with each of my pregnancies - and ended up 2 stones heavier after the 2nd mc than I was before - I then lost it all by Christmas, but have now put on a total of about 3 stones with this pregnancy - I have to keep reminding myself that I've put the weight on for a purpose, and that if I've lost the excess weight once, then I can do it again ...

Take care all - try not to take any notice (difficult I know) of those who obviously don't have a clue on the antenatal thread - I feel lucky that many of the women on here are also on the same antenatal thread as me, so could get where I was coming from.

AnguaVonUberwald · 20/08/2007 09:41

MOM, so sorry you had a bad time on the March AN thread, I haven't really joined it this time (started the first one for my first MC and then it all went horribly wrong) and now I feel a bit like its an exclusive gang who all know each other all ready. (Probably totally unfair but there you go)

It is different on the pregnancy after MC thread, you can come on here, and just be scared, and everyone helps, its made the most enormous difference to me!!

I have now started throwing up (at 9 weeks) having felt just sick before. Still at 9+3 hopefully it will all start getting better soon.

AnguaVonUberwald · 20/08/2007 09:42

p.s. I put on weight straight away with both the MC and then pregnancy, its really nice to hear that other people are doing the same thing!

BellaBear · 20/08/2007 10:40

I put on weight after my mc mainly through comfort eating. I then put on weight in the first ten weeks of this pg, but I seem to have lost it now (am 15+6). I say 'seem' because I am refusing to actually weigh myself. When I had my booking appt, the midwife asked how much I weighed, I replied '11 stone' and she said 'You do not!' but had to admit I was right after weighing me. So now I'm not checking!

Can I ask when people's bump showed up? I have a little, possibly imaginary, bump which disappears when I lie down. I want a bump so I can see that I am pregnant!

VictorVictoria · 20/08/2007 10:42

Bella I am 16+3 and have small bump that is only in the last couple of days still there when I lie down.

BellaBear · 20/08/2007 10:43

ooo we are close! thanks x

spugs · 20/08/2007 10:51

ive not put weight on but my tummy is really puffed out. keep panicing theres more then one as im the same size as i was at 16 weeks with dd2! i have been constipted and really gassy though have had to stop taking preg vits due to the iorn and stick to folic acid.

mom - im sorry youve had a crap time on march ante natal, i havent seen the comment but i do agree that its hard when everyones being really positive and you cant. i think if youve never mced then its very hard to understand - i watched my sister go through 3 mcs in a row and still didnt get quite how horrible it is till i had mine (then fel incredibly bad for not being more understanding) just think 2/3 more weeks till scan and then we can chill a bit

MerlinsBeard · 20/08/2007 11:20

yes ED = eating disorder.

I have struggled for years with anorexia and bulimia. was 6.5 stone when i first got pg with ds1 and when i get really down i get back into the cycles. i got triggered by mc and recently when i went into ED places to look for Hilary (Hils/Hilllls...) this pregnancy has got me out but i tread a fine line anyway.

Feedmenow · 20/08/2007 11:32

Morning all. Just thought I'd keep you all updated - I had a bleed yesterday and got really freaked out, convinced it was the beginning of the end. It was only light, and just for a few hours and dark brown but, well, you all know how it is and how little it takes to scare the pants off yourself.
So I went to the EPU this morning. They were lovely but said they wouldn't scan cos I only had a scan (private) 4 days ago. The gist was that a small bleed is acceptable, normal even and the doc was surpprised I hadn't had one before as this is my 5th pg. He did an internal and said my cervix is closed which is good. Basically, if I get severe cramping or heavy bleeding I am to go back.
I spoke to my SIL afterwards and she questioned why a scan 4 days ago would stop them doing one today, particularly as it was a private scan. I wonder if it is to do with trying to minimise exposure to u/sound, but she wondered if they were just being tight!
Anyway, I don't feel all that reassured cos I know all too well that a change can happen in a moment. But all I can do now is wait. 3 weeks today til my 12 week scan, so fingers crossed til then that everything is OK. I don't know that I could handle the thought of having another dead little bubba inside me for 3 weeks again.

Anyway, enough about me. How about everyone else? Good weekends all round?

EllieG · 20/08/2007 11:35

I'm so glad it's not just me being bloated! Tummy seems less so in the mornings, but by afternoon it's actually uncomfortable!
I am trying to relax about it though - have been bulimic for years and I am fairly stable generally (having had bucketloads of therapy) but I just have to accept that pregnancy is a time when weight gain is just going to happen and that as long as I eat relatively healthily it will be fine.
Incidentally - I have a new worry today - last night I was getting bad cramps - sort of a dull sicky ache - and was all night and made it difficult to sleep. Was fretting that start of MC too, which didn't help. Has eased up this morning because moving around and not lying flat and now is fine. So not sure if was just trapped wind or something worse - what do you people think?

EllieG · 20/08/2007 11:38

Sorry feedmenow - x-posts there - sorry to hear about bleed but am sure is OK if cervix is nice and closed. My mate was told they don't scan any more than necessary to minimize exposure by the way

Feedmenow · 20/08/2007 12:11

Thats what I thought Ellie. Thanks.
Sorry about your cramps. I'm no good on advice on this cos every single little twinge I get I seem to imagine the worse - even if it's in my foot!!
All I know is that between the ligaments stretching and the changes in bowels, digestion, wind and stuff, then there are an awful lot of reasons for lower ab aches and pains. Lets just hope it is bowel stuff and nothing else!

MerlinsBeard · 20/08/2007 12:13

feedmenow, i think they don't scan that close because they don't know the long term risks properly.
Also, i think that a closed cervix is good news

Mumpbump · 20/08/2007 12:36

Afternoon all!

Uki - did you wind up having a c-section? I didn't realise. I shall take myself off and look for your birth announcement (if there is one) to get all the gory details. I can understand why you said it was horrid!! I hope that your little boy is okay and that his tummy button settles down. Ds' was pretty horrid for a while. I think we just wiped it with cotton wool and water, but yours sounds like a different level.

Angua - very pleased to hear your positive news. Won't be long now until you have your 12 weeks scan!

MOM - sensitive bunch on your antenatal thread, aren't they?? I can understand them wanting to keep positive, but it's a tad insensitive to my mind. The comment about the risk of m/c reducing after 8 weeks is ill informed, I think. I know they cannot understand how devastating a m/c is, but even so... I didn't join my antenatal thread until after I got to 12 weeks and there are lots more people since the 22 week mark. Stick with us here for the time-being... We'll be nice to you!

Feedmenow - I did hear something about not wanting to do too many u/s scans during pg because of the heat (?). I guess until you start feeling movement or unless you get a doppler, that fear is always at the back of your mind and if you did have another scan now, it would only provide temporary reassurance. So be strong - not long at all now until the all important 12 week mark.

EllieG - I seem to get lots of wind in pg so chances are that's all the bloated feeling is or water retention at this stage.

Jules - stay with us if you can bear to!! I am sure we will all be interested to know how you get on with any investigations and I hope that it won't be that long before you're back on here...

Daisy - hello there!! Great news from your SIL. Nice to have cousins(?) so close together too, I imagine!

Have run out of time so will be back later to post about ME!

my1stbaby · 20/08/2007 12:47

Just a quick one to say hello to everybody. Hope all is well. I am feeling quite alright, still have MS on and off, sometimes tummy a bit bloated, sometimes not. If dates of previous scan is correct, I am 11 weeks today. Been very nervous ever since hearing about Jules m/c as our EDD is exactly the same. I think she's having D&C today. Hope she's ok.

If you are around Jules, thinking of you and giving you hugs.

feedmenow: sorry to hear about your bleeding. I bled from about the time i get BFP to about 9.5wks. I had a private scan with an obstetrician and he said bleeding in early pg is quite common and not necessarily means something's wrong. But it doesn't stop me worrying though. I hope all will be ok for you.

Feedmenow · 20/08/2007 13:00

Thanks for the support all.

My1st, I think you are right that Jules is in for the surgery today. I didn't realise that this is her 3rd mc. I saw her thread elsewhere and only then realised how devastated she is - when she told us the news on here she seemed quite calm about it, but I suppose i should know better really

becklespeckle · 20/08/2007 13:14

Hi all!
MrsMc is normal not to feel too much movement at your stage I think, I have days when I feel loads and the kicks are strong and other days when there is very little movement and is quite light. I think that because there is still a lot of room for bubs to move around in, sometimes s/he is near the back or kicking inwards and so I don?t feel it so much.
Jules, am not surprised you feel lost at the moment, just take your time hun and if you feel up to it, push your doctors for some answers and help. Hope today goes well for you, thinking of you hun x
Angua, glad your baby is fine! A bit of reassurance goes a long way in those first awful months! Constipation is not much fun but seems to be par for the course for some of us!
Hi Daisy! How goes it? Fantastic news about your SIL ? double trouble!
Uki, I got your email pics! Beautiful little boy! You look fab too ? nothing like the death-warmed-up which was me after giving birth! Poor little Levi though, how is he today? Hope his temperature has come down and good luck with his ultrasound appointment later in the week, keep us updated on how he is.
Spugs, it is horrible when other people m/c and so hard to know what to say. One of my BF m/c earlier this year, she would have been due about 3 weeks after me and I don?t know what to say, if I was not pg myself I would find it easier to comfort her but don?t want her to feel I am rubbing it in IYKWIM? I think you are right about bodies getting used to hormones, I had a real dip in symptoms at 9 weeks (and mega-panics) but they came back with a vengeance a week later!
MOM, don?t worry about what the others on you?re a/n thread say. If you have not been through m/c you cannot understand the worry and fears that go with early pg. I spent very little time on my a/n thread before about 14 weeks and even now I spend more time on here (its more comfy IYKWIM?!). I am sure your baby will be fine this time but we all understand how hard it can be to stay positive in the first 12 weeks, I certainly never managed it!
Ellie some people do start buying straight away ? I certainly did with my first pg and was devastated when I lost it at 13 weeks. It must be lovely to go through pg with the optimism which you have when you have not m/c before. This time I refused to even buy maternity stuff until 14 weeks. I am now 21 weeks and for this baby I have bought a carrycot for my pushchair (from ebay, is discontinued so only bought it as was worried I might not find another) and my friend gave me a snowsuit last night which she bought for her LO (due in 4 weeks) but said it would be too small by the time bubs needed it. I will wait until around 30 weeks before buying anything else I need I think. I would not worry too much about the size of your tum at the moment, wind could have a lot to do with that and is quite common in early pg! Sounds like the pain you had was to do with trapped wind and constipation to me, hope you are okay!
Pinkranger, hi! 2 days to go! Bet you are more than ready now, hope he isn?t too late!
Ejt, glad you had a good time at the festival, is surprising how tired things make you while pg isn?t it?! I always try to carry on as normal and end up exhausted too!
Feedmenow, sorry you?ve had a bleed. Is a good sign that your cervix is still closed though so fingers crossed everything will be fine at your next scan, shame they couldn?t scan you for a bit of reassurance though. Try and stay positive if you can and vent on here when you need to x
Hi Mumpbump, how goes it?
My1stBaby, glad you are feeling okay! When is your next scan hun?

Hi Becklespeckle! I'm not too bad. Had a hellish weekend as I spent half of Saturday asleep and then made the mistake of heading to Bluewater with my dsc and ds. Ds didn't want to go in the buggy so we let him walk for the first half an hour before dh got so stressed, he had to be restrained for his own safety!! If you're 21 weeks now, are you having a scan soon?

my1stbaby · 20/08/2007 14:09

beckle, wow mega post! Well done you. Next scan is tomorrow. A bit nervous but DH told me this morning but little beanie whispered to him that it's ok and not to worry mummy

mofm just been and read about the comments on the March AN thread at the lack of support. Although I do understand that we have to think positive but to imply that you are bringing the thread down is a bit OTT. I haven't joined the AN yet as don't feel quite ready. Perhaps we could start a PG after m/c: due in March/April thread? Or you think that's too divisive?

feedmenow yes, it's Jules 3rd m/c. So for her. I hope that she and her DH will be able to insist for some genetic testing so that they can find out what went wrong. It's so heartbreaking isn't it?

x
