D-Day Fettle!! Thinking of you xx
MoM - Rubles has recently moved house, don't think she has a telephone and internet sorted out yet, her lost post was from an internet cafe. Not sure about PLP - haven't heard a thing - hope she is okay!
EJT- good for you re: in-laws. I'm lucky in that my mil is lovely, my fil is a pain in the arse, but mil just tells him to shut up when he gets too much.
ILS have offered to pick dss from his mum's and bring him to ours over xmas, if Turtle hasn't arrived and I go into labour when they are there, they will take dss away with them back to his mum's. I've said that they can bring him up again once I've been out of the hospital a couple of days - I was absolutely adamant that a) I didn't want his ex bringing dss up, because damned if she gets to see new baby before my mum does (She won't be coming up until the new year when dh goes back to work), I certainly didn't want dh going down to fetch him since it means he would be away from home for nearly 4 hours (in which time I could go into labour!), and the ils want to come up anyway, and they can help entertain him.
Seems like I'm being mean, but this is the one time I'm going to have to be selfish and put myself first - I want to have a chance to get my head around becoming a mum and getting the house in some vague semblence of order before I end up with people staying and frankly it's a toss up who's harder work to entertain - dss or the ils!!
I don't envy you guys who have kids already, though admittedly (and I'll probably be labelled evil sm for this) I thinks it's different when they are your own kids or they live with you full time!
I'm going to find it tough anyway, DH and I live in Teesside, my family live in Essex or Spain, his family all live in Lancashire - so we lack a family support network here!

Woooozle100 · 18/09/2007 08:37

waving manically helloooooo all. Not had time for proper catch up but will do over the week. Am on maternity leave now - yippeee! Work was v hectic before I left - certainly no mumsnet time to be sneaked!

Good luck to fettle today

I have 4 1/2 weeks till due date. All ok. Have been signed off consultant care back over to mw so fingers crossed may be on course for Birth Centre. Oh and am listening to natal hypnotherapy cd which is succeeding in calming me down and relaying a lot of the anxiety I have.

Will pop back this evening. Off out with dd for day. ttfn. Lots of love to everyone xxx

spugs · 18/09/2007 09:06

good luck for today fettle xx

thinking of you fettle

ejb...great news about the birth centre!! and not long really now for you euther!

MrsMcJnr · 18/09/2007 10:05

I?ve got goose bumps for Fettle

Ejt ? your DH does sound like a star ? does he give lessons? what else in the book? Well, there?s a section on sex and how important it always is to men and how unimportant we consider it when we?re looking after a LO, there?s also a section on the next child (not read that yet) but my main focus has been the in-laws bit and the trying not to be a control freak and letting DH be involved bits!

Beckle ? lovely long post from you hope you are managing to continue the rest, especially as it is helping. All good here thanks, 23 weeks today, have MW appointment tomorrow and then 24week scan and consultant?s (Obstetric) appointment next Thurs before heading to Spain on Friday. I started reading up about the birth last night as there are lots of things I am scared of and don?t want and I thought I?d better discuss those things with the Consultant when I see her. LOL at your baby?s arrival window ? hope it works out! I feel the pregnancy is going quite fast now ? there are so many things I haven?t read, learnt or done yet but that said, I?m also in a hurry to have him/her safely in my arms!

Timefortea ? can?t open your link at work but Torin is a lovely name

MOM ? no news from PLP or Rubles yet! Lovely to have you on the list!

Bouncing ? sounds like a plan with DSS and the PIL! you are not being selfish at all, it all makes perfect sense. My friends have been drumming into me that when people come to visit/stay after a baby, it?s not for you to entertain them or look after them, it?s the other way round and if you don?t let it happen that way, you?ll be stressed out and shattered I don?t really have a support network family wise either ? PIL are 40 mins away but MIL is a manic depressant and spent DH?s and SIL?s early years in an institution so she missed them as babies really and has issues with young babies. FIL is 73 and can?t see well and is clumsy and drops things ? maybe I am being mean but I cannot see me leaving my precious bundle alone with them. SIL is lovely but is ultra busy and single and whilst she?ll be a fabby, fun auntie, she won?t be able to give me hands on help. My family are scattered around England, Wales and Spain! I have my friends though

Hey Ejb yeah ? happy mat leave!! Mine starts 13 weeks on Friday! All sounds positive with you which hypnotherapy cd is that?

daisyandbabybootoo · 18/09/2007 10:10

I've probably missed you fettle....but GOOD LUCK

Lawd I wish my computer had some sort of alarm when someone posted on a thread......still it gives me an excuse (like I need one ) to hang about on MN all day again!

Mumpbump · 18/09/2007 10:22

Very quick post from me to say good luck fettle. I am thinking of you today and hope that the induction goes well...

I'm only going to be quick as I have a few things to sort out and have been having frequent, but short contractions since yesterday so am suddenly feeling under pressure to get organised... B*gger! Thought we were going to have until Friday at least, but now have a feeling bubba might put in an earlier appearance...

Haven't had a chance to read the thread - have to go find my maternity notes and re-write up my maternity plan as I left it at work - but hope everyone is doing well and I will probably be back tomorrow to say it is all a false alert...

daisyandbabybootoo · 18/09/2007 10:30

Oooh mumpbump, how exciting for you

good Luck to you to lady!

feedmenow · 18/09/2007 10:47

I know you'll already be at the hospital Fettle, but am thinking of you and wishing you luck all the way!

Mump, contractions eh? Good luck for you too!!

Can't remember whether or not I mentioned that I bought a doppler last week. I haven't been obsessive with it cos I'd rather be trying it at times when I have time and space to give it a good go rather than hurrying, not finding h/b then panicking. Anyway, I'm pretty sure I've found bubba's hb, plus loads of wooshy, swooshy noises from my uterus. But I timed what I thought was bubba and got 150 beats in a minute so am sure this must be him and not me???? The only slight concern I have is that when I posted about buying dopplers elsewhere someone said that untrained users might be picking up the placenta and not the h/b. Does anyone know anything about this? I would have thought the placenta would be pulsing more at MY pulse rate as opposed to bubba's, as it is MY blood "feeding" it? Any opinions anyone?

Hope everyone else is doing OK. Spugs, is it you who is having another scan this week?

Mrsmc, how come you are having a 24 weeks scan? Is it to do with your medical concerns? Could that still effect the baby?

EllieG · 18/09/2007 10:47

Good luck fettle and mumpbump! xxx

Glimmer · 18/09/2007 11:09

Hi, sorry have been working a lot and not posting much. Everything well here, although I start to suffer seriously from insomnia...- but hey: who cares if I get a LO out of it at the end?

But, all morning I have been thinking: FETTLE-FETTLE-FETTLE-FETTLEFETTLE-FETTLEFETTLE-FETTLEFETTLE-FETTLEFETTLE-FETTLEFETTLE-FETTLEFETTLE-F ETTLEFETTLE-FETTLEFETTLE-FETTLEFETTLE-FETTLEFETTLE-FETTLEFETTLE-FETTLEFETTLE-FETTLEFETTLE-FETTLEFETT LE-FETTLEFETTLE-FETTLEFETTLE-FETTLEFETTLE-FETTLEFETTLE-FETTLEFETTLE-FETTLEFETTLE-FETTLE

I hope everything is well and you might getting ready to push LO out right now! Go for it and we are all with you in thought!

Mumpbump -- how exciting. I did bet you and Fettle would give birth on the same day, so don't dissapoint me. You have 13h left :-) No, seriously, I wish you all the best and good that you get ready for the arrival.

How exciting!!

EJT -- how are you? Getting ready as well?

My thoughts to everybody, including PLP and Rubels.

Morning all ...

HV has just been - she just wanted to have a chat and make sure that I knew about our local breastfeeding support group - which didn't exist when Rhydian was a baby... also wanted to make sure I was ok, and to let me know what the procedure was for visits after babe is born.

I'm getting niggly twinges a lot at the moment - I really want the time until madam is born to fly by now - I'm rubbish at waiting!

Mumpbump - hope this is it for you!

Glimmer - hope you're feeling ok ...

feedmenow - the midwife I saw in the hospital (when I had the last bleed) said that the wooshy sounds are the placenta (at lo's heartrate), and that the baby's heartbeat sounds like a ping-pong ball being bounced ... I listen out for that every time!

She also told me that if you can hear the placenta, then all is usually ok with the baby, unles something has happened in the last 5 minutes.

Now, have one more listen, and put the doppler down!!

Ellie - How are you doing today? Thinking of you - don't forget, we're here if you need us.

MrsMc - thanks for saying dh is a star - I think so too - he is a truly wonderful man, and such a good dad.
The book sounds interesting ... I may have to see if they have it in the library!

I am making a quilt for madam - have just finished the top, and will be going for quilting i today ... am getting there!

I may put a pic of it in my profile once I'm done ... it may make me actually do a profile!

ejt1764 · 18/09/2007 12:03

x posts with you firsty - lovely to hear from you!

MrsMcJnr · 18/09/2007 12:17

Ladies I have promised Fettle that I will keep you posted and let you know any news as soon as I hear it.

Exciting stuff Mumpbump ? all the very, very best xx

Feedmenow ? I was told by MW that baby?s heartbeats would be about double mine at 150 so sounds to me as if you hit gold! Yup, I?m still not out of the dark and won?t be until a successful birth unfortunately as clots can form in the placenta and starve the baby at anytime so the risks are low birth weights and stillborns once the MC stages have passed ? all very scary but all going well at the mo hopefully the scans are frequent enough that if anything starts to form, they?d see if before damage is done ? such a scary thought

Firsty ? didn?t know that about the keeping in touch days and SMP ? no cash in hand then? can?t see a law firm being up for that!

Ejt ? hope those pains are the beginning of madam?s arrival! Have to say, I love my DH more than I ever have before, he is so considerate and protective over me and Beanie and I can just see in his face that we are his world, I am so happy would love to see the quilt!

Bouncingturtle · 18/09/2007 12:41

Firststar/MrsMc - you are allowed up to 10 keep in touch days during your ML without affecting your maternity pay - according to my HR department this means that I would get paid for any day that I worked and still get the SMP for the week. Otherwise there is no point in doing it, as you would get the same amount for not working at all!
I've just found this on the DTI website - it seems to me that it is up to you and your employer to agree a rate of pay for keep in touch days - basically they have to pay you SMP, but they can refuse to pay you any extra. However, they can't force you to work them, so it would be in their interest to pay you a fair day's rate, if they are keen to get you in to attend training etc.

"If the employee is receiving statutory maternity pay, the employer should continue to pay her SMP for the week in which any Keeping in Touch work is done by the employee. The employer will be able to reclaim reimbursement for some or all of this money in the normal way from HMRC as before.

If the employee is receiving SMP the employer may count the amount of SMP for the week in which the work is done towards the contractual pay agreed by the two parties. However, it will always be possible to agree an amount of contractual remuneration over and above the weekly SMP rate to reflect the work the woman has done. This is something that both parties need to agree between themselves before any work is done. Whatever amount of money is paid by the employer in respect of Keeping in Touch days, the employer will continue to be able to recover funding from HMRC, for the SMP paid, as normal."

Glimmer · 18/09/2007 19:01

No new from Fettle I take it. Means she is still at it! Fettle, we think of you!!!!!!!!

MerlinsBeard · 18/09/2007 20:08

feedmenow...i remeber the DSs heartbeats being like a galloping horse so ping pong ball is quite right!

am of you having a doppler. I am back to feeling unpregnant despite me seeing LO less than a week ago!
things can't have done a u turn in that short space of time can they? chances are lower now i am nearly 14 weeks aren't they? and now that i have seen the HB?

MrsMc, your PG sounds so so worrying glad they are giving you lots of scans. you will have built up quite an album of pictures by the time LO is born

Fettle and mumpbump.....the race is on

missworry · 19/09/2007 00:26

Hello, I'm new to mumsnet. I am not a mother but I am pregnant again 9wks and terrified of having another missed (silent) miscarriage. I am 38 and the desire to become a mother has his me like a train in the last couple of years, the grief I have experienced is devastating and effecting my whole (and husband's) life because I have a such as sense urgency and of running out of time. I am so afraid of losing this pregnancy, and of how I'll cope if it happens. Yesterday I was convinced it was all over even though I had and ultrasound and saw a little heart beat last Thursday. My pregnancy symptoms haven't been really strong, no nausea, just the occasional vomit and dry wretch in the morning and tender breasts. Is this normal???? There seems to be a list of Classic symptoms and lower back pain doesn't seem to feature on any of them and I have this quite frequently. The pregnancy symptoms seem to come and go, there one day not the next and some days I just don't feel pregnant and I am panicking. Does anyone here understand these feelings?? I feel so alone, how do I get through this? Is it possible to have a scan every week?

fihi · 19/09/2007 00:31

hey missworry! all that is understandable. nobody can 'get' how scary being pregnant is after miscarriages. i got scanned every 2weeks with ds2 but i think it made me worry more - u could ask tho

Bouncingturtle · 19/09/2007 07:27

Hey Missworry - if it helps to reassure you, my mum said that she had virtually no morning sickness when carrying me and my 2 brothers. I think about 50% of women don't suffer from it.
Also as myself and the other ladies here will attest, symptons do come and go. The fact you have seen a heartbeat (congrats on your scan btw) means your chance of m/c go down drastically.
Is the back pain a period type back pain - I certainly have experienced that through out pg. It's surprising how many other symptons pg women experiewnce that aren't mentioned in the standard texts - for example, early on during both my pg (I m/c the 1st at 9weeks) I suffered horrendous migraines. Apparently this is common if you have suffered from hormone triggered migraines in the past (which I had).
Your body is producing a hormone called relaxin, this causes ligaments to soften in preparation for labour - it does mean that you are more prone to strains - it may be that the back pain is a symptom of this.
Good luck and hang with us, please share any worries you have, no matter how insignificant you think they are - everyone of the ladies here know exactly what you going through - we've all been in your shoes . And you will get lots of support.
One of the main problems that we have is that people generally don't realise how utterly devastating having a m/c can be unless they themselves have experienced it, and also how it affects subsequent pg.

Hmm this has turned into a long post!!

Hello to everyone!!

Hi Missworry,

i'm in a similar situation, i'm also 38 and am 10 +1 preg. I had to have scan at epc 2 wks ago as my preg symptoms disappeared overnight, I was convinced that I had had another mmc but all was well with my scan You're lucky you are feeling ok, some days my tiredness is so bad I dont want to get out of bed but luckily the tiredness @ nausea are starting to ease off the past few days.
Even though I have date for my 12wk scan I still have worries esp when I have a day I feel great. From talking with other people on MN there a loads of us with the same kinda worries.

Take care

PS have posted on this thread before but having trouble keeping up with everyones news - hope everyone is well
