The Graduates of TTC after pregnancy loss thread #2 "The Penguin Huddle " 🐧🐧🐧

Hello Ladies

Starting a new penguin huddle thread as the first one is getting very full. This is for those of us who've graduated from the conception boards.

Getting a BFP after pregnancy loss is not necessarily a happy time so this is a safe place to vent, worry and share news (good, hopefully, or bad).

I hope you are all here for the long-haul. But you are welcome no matter how briefly.
Others who are pregnant after loss but who weren't on the original thread are of course welcome too.

Let's start the roll call:

Me:
No living children, 3rd pregnancy, currently 8+3. Had early scan at 7 weeks that showed baby measuring right for 7w with a heartbeat. Got another early viability scan booked in for this Tuesday at 8+6. Really scared I've lost this one again.
2 previous pregnancies ended in mmc at 12+3 (baby stopped growing at 5 weeks) in July 2018 and mc (CP but hate that term) in November 2018. Before then had been TTC for 5 years so our journey has been 6 years since starting to TTC.

@InDreamland what’s Ribena? I don’t know if it’s brave to go hiking/camping at 6-7 weeks or just stupid. I’m thinking the latter :/. Do you know how much is safe to carry in pregnancy? And whether the hot bath thing is a myth? It’s so hard to find real scientific information about pregnancy and mc - but I promised myself I would try to live as normally as possible this time and not worry, as was a chromosomal issue last time. Easier said than done!

InDreamland · 25/07/2019 16:58

@sadtoday21 Ribena is this (photo). You've never had it? It's so yummy. I don't think there is a limit on how much is safe to carry as it's down to what your body is used to doing normally anyway. For example there are women who still do crazy body building weight lifting through their pregnancy but they're used to it already. I'm pretty strong and can carry heavy stuff but did worry yesterday with the heat it was all a bit too much for me. With the bath, I read it was to do with raising your core temperature. Think I did read something about going to a spa and not using those jacuzzi pools or hot tubs that were over 34° or something like that because they raise core body temperature. Not sure many people take baths that hot?

Hey @sadtoday21 - my pregnancy symptoms this time round started around 6/7 weeks and would come and go which would send me into a spin. Try not to worry and try not to read too much into the symptoms - I know you still will, as this is what I was told, but never listened. What happened to you before is very rare. I also went hiking at 5 weeks pregnant (20 miles) and it was the hottest day of the year in April. I was worried of course, but didn't harm the baby. Please try to not worry, and we are here for you before your upcoming scan 😘 xx

Ribena @InDreamland - I used to love the stuff, but since falling pregnancy just can't stomach it 😬. I think it's because it's thicker than most squashes. I've got a think about iced water at the minute, can't get enough of it.

I'm 18 weeks tomorrow @moonpeace. Well st least I hope I am. Amazing that your MW found the heartbeat and she felt a little kick - just wonderful news.

My dad is the same @InDreamland - out in the allotment soaking up the sun whilst he is digging soil! Can't think of anything worse!

Well I am sat in Starbucks waiting for the DH to turn up before scan. So desperately want this little one to be still with us. I know it's positive that I've had no bleeding and my stomach is growing and that I think I have felt movement, but I can't help but think that it's a MMC again...this whole experience is quite haunting and I can't shake the feelings before I have a scan. Why is it that scans offer so much reassurance, but being up so many bad feelings 😤

rubyroot · 25/07/2019 17:18

I think that whatever is going to happen re miscarriage has already been decided when sperm meets egg as most miscarriages are chromosomal.
Obviously it isn't a good idea to fast or not drink water whatever. But over exerting oneself a bit, eating unhealthily (sometimes) or having a hot bath won't make an iota bit of difference in my opinion.

Going in a sauna or spa raises core temperature as does sunbathing for long periods which can affect development, drugs, poor nutrition and medicines can also have a tetragenic effect during the first trimester.

KnitKitty · 25/07/2019 18:22

Hi everyone,

Thank you for the well wishes for my scan today.
I am floating on cloud 9 at the moment! Everything is looking great! Measuring 13 weeks 1 day; due date 29th January.
Baby was really active and waving its arms and legs about and turning; it was so fun to watch! I was in awe.
Since all four of my MCs happened so much earlier on I'm really feeling like I've made it to a safe zone now.

Saw the doctor after my scan and I've got lots put in place for the rest of my pregnancy since I have a strange womb and higher risk of pre-term and/or cesarean birth. Will be having an anatomy scan to check my womb and checking cervical length in 3 weeks' time. Then after my 20 week scan I'll be getting growth scans every 4 weeks so they can keep and eye on progress and make sure my womb has enough room and possibly prepare for a certain type of birth.
I had a swab taken to rule out bacterial vaginosis just as a precaution because it can cause pre-term birth.
And I'll be staying on the progesterone pessaries until further notice. I think they want to check my womb anatomy etc before they consider me coming off it.

Feeling so relieved and a lot more relaxed.

sadtoday21 · 25/07/2019 18:26

@InDreamland fascinating never seen this drink before - it must be a British thing? I’ve lived in the UK now for two years, but I am still learning new things 😂! Looks yummy!

I definitely worry about the overheating thing too - I mean, if jacuzzis and saunas are bad than surely other forms of overheating, like the ones @rubyroot mentioned, are also bad? But then I think about all the women who live in hot climates and have perfectly healthy pregnancies. And I read a new study that said actually even 20 mins in jacuzzi or sauna doesn’t increase the risk of mc (not that I’d try it). So probably just need to tell myself to stop being crazy.

@Amanda81 that’s good to know that your symptoms came and went - I’m just terrified of having no symptoms like Last time. Definitely want to be sick haha! I’m sending you a virtual handhold now that everything is amazing in there and you have a lovely new photo to share soon. I don’t know how the nhs expects two scans to be sufficient! And I know what you mean about needing to have the scan Now and also dreading the scan more than anything. Everything crossed for you! Xxx

sadtoday21 · 25/07/2019 18:29

@KnitKitty that is a gorgeous scan, congratulations! You must feel so relieved. Very happy for you!

rubyroot · 25/07/2019 18:35

Awwww excellent news @Knitkitty. That's unlucky that your womb is not a normal shape. Is it quite a common thing. I think you mentioned it before, but not sure what it is.

By the way of you have a c section they are so straight forward and easy peasy! Well my emergency one was after a horrendous failed induction. X

VenusStarr · 25/07/2019 19:04

Congratulations @KnitKitty wonderful news ❤️😍

InDreamland · 25/07/2019 19:07

@Amanda81 I dilute it down a bit more than usual so it's not as sweet. I think I did have too much today though. Hope you're scan has gone well!

@KnitKitty ❤❤❤❤ gorgeous scan photo! Congrats on getting to the safe zone! You really must be thrilled. Sounds like you're getting really excellent care.

@sadtoday21 it is really nice. Try not to worry too much unless you physically feel you've over exerted.

@rubyroot I think maybe you might have a point. At my last scan the doctor said to me to remember that nothing I do now can determine the outcome of this pregnancy........ apart from my exertions yesterday have made me worry.

What do I want to eat for dinner today? What can I stomach?

Here's an article which says it's actually quite difficult for your body to get to 39 degrees

Bluebelltulip · 25/07/2019 19:52

That's great news @KnitKitty.

MyHeartIsBrokeButIHaveSomeGlue · 25/07/2019 20:27

So pleased for you @KnitKitty! I hope you start to relax and enjoy a bit now.

Hope your scan has gone well too @Amanda81.

@InDreamland is your Harmony test this weekend?

@rubyroot I agree - it's difficult to get to that temperature. I took my temperature at 2pm after being out on a site meeting for an hour absolutely genuinely melting and I was 37.7. I've decided that worry itself is my biggest concern so I'm trying to be more laid back!

rubyroot · 25/07/2019 21:42

@Frillyfarmer I'm full of good advice, but truth is I'm worrying about my 25 minute hike at 27 degrees the other day and then back again! 🤦‍♀️Was pretty hot and sweaty, but cooled down really quickly

InDreamland · 25/07/2019 22:50

Interesting article @rubyroot

@MyHeartIsBrokeButIHaveSomeGlue yes it is if the scan first is okay. I'm so anxious about this scan now. Especially now as this evening I've been getting twinges, prodding, pulling uncomfortable sensations in my lower abdomen, mainly on the left side. Worried it's the start of something going wrong. How are you with the heat now?

@moonpeace I'll have to look into it. It's brilliant for reassurance. Ice lollies sound good, strangely I didn't go for any today. Now a Ribena lolly would be amazing!

This heat tonight is hideous. Even the fan isn't properly cooling me down and it's blowing right on me.

Just thought I would quickly give an update...baby girl is doing well, lovely to see her again and she is just so cute. All measuring okay and everything looked normal. My placenta has shifted ever so slightly and is not a full on anterior placenta, which may explain how I have been feeling little flutters for a first time pregnancy...so 18 weeks tomorrow...it's starting to feel real.

I will post the scan pic tomorrow, as we have been entertaining one of my DH's friends tonight and not had chance to scan yet.

@KnitKitty - beautiful scan photo. Is that a little hand pointing up? Just lovely.

tinatsarina · 25/07/2019 23:44

I love seeing all the scan pictures they're so cute. I'm shattered but finding it difficult to switch off. Hopefully I'll sleep soon

Newbie21 · 25/07/2019 23:58

@KnitKitty and @Amanda81 very pleased the scans went well today. Love the scan photo @KnitKitty so cute and glad you are getting all the professional advice and care you need.

I got my harmony results today and all low risk so super relieved. I have my NHS dating scan tomorrow so looking forward to seeing bubs again. Fingers crossed all still ok.

coconutlatte44 · 26/07/2019 08:40

Congrats @KnitKitty and @Amanda81 on your positive scans and @Newbie21 on your test results. Every little bit farther that we get on this journey is worth celebrating!

InDreamland · 26/07/2019 08:45

Glad all is well @Amanda81 was getting worried there we hadn't heard.

Ladies it's still so warm indoors, walk to station this morning was actually really nice as it's cooler outside. Still sweating loads now though. Why am I still so hot? Hope this baby is ok in there. Really worried. Still getting those uncomfortable sensations in my lower abdomen to the left of centre. Don't need a poo as I must be the only one not having constipation on here. Really worried. Didn't sleep well either, had to get up to pee in the middle of the night then couldn't get back to sleep. Petrified what will happen tomorrow if we get to tomorrow. Baby might have died since Tuesday last week. Sorry for the negativity but I'm so anxious.
