@MrsR16, that's great news about the engagement! What an exciting time for the whole family 🙂 We only really have Mothercare near to us for stuff like prams, cots etc.

We're thinking of going to a baby/toddler type show, just to see if we can pick up bargains? The only one that really fits is one in Manchester at the end of September (I'm due Jan) Dh thinks I'm mad though, as we're West Midlands based so will be a trek. Has anyone been to anything similar? Would you recommend making the trip? Xx

EltzBee · 15/06/2019 15:37

@Fivebyfive2 how far is Manchester from you? We got our pram from a baby show, but there are always offers on in Mothercare etc - and I expect they'll do another decent offer for August bank holiday, and then black friday no doubt. If it's more than an hour/hour and a half away, I don't think I would go personally. We went around all the big baby stores near us (Mothercare, Mama's and Papa's, John Lewis etc) and did lots of research. We ordered our furniture from the store, pram we did get babyshow but only after lots of trying things at a store, and our main car seat we got from Mothercare and tried it in our car - the compatibility lists aren't accurate, we one our seats isn't listed but fits perfectly in our car, and another we tried which is listed as fitting, didn't.
It's a good way to see lots at once, but there are a lot of stalls/booths all doing the same thing so it can be a bit repetitive and also usually very busy.

BostonFern · 15/06/2019 15:38

@MrsR16 wonderful news about the engagement!

@Fivebyfive2 hope you've had a good shopping trip. @Fivebyfive2 we went to the baby show at the nec last month, that was good, I'm not sure there is another one there before I'm due in November though-not sure about December? Otherwise there's a nearly new sale at the end of this month that's only five or ten minutes from where you had your scan (I'm planning on going, not sure what it'll be like though!).

Tropicana1 · 15/06/2019 18:52

@purplefig @Bettythecat @stormtrooperjulian I'm a vet so higher than your average risk of catching toxo and my midwife was not at all concerned and wasn't even fussed enough to do a blood test to check, just told me to let them know if I get symptomatic! I remember a lecturer at uni saying you'd pretty much have to lick the litter tray 😂 don't tell your DH's that though, long may they continue to empty the litter trays haha!

@Fivebyfive2 yea feeling good thanks! Finally feel like I'm coming to the end of this nausea thank goodness. It's definitely eased off - haven't actually thrown up for a full 7 days 🙌🏻
My god my skin though - I've had the WORST pimple eruption, those horrible under the skin, can't do anything about them ones 😭 so much for a pregnancy glow!

BabySquid · 15/06/2019 19:34

So we've just been for our early scan, glad we did. The generational sack is there but she said it's empty. So I'm being referred to the ecu tomorrow.

Bettythecat · 15/06/2019 19:54

@BabySquid oh my god I'm so so sorry. I know exactly what you are going through having been there myself and it's just devastating. Give yourself the space and time to feel all the emotions, tell the people you need to tell for support and take as much time off work and everything else as you need. Sending so much love. Xx

Fivebyfive2 · 15/06/2019 20:07

@Tropicana1, I'm glad you're feeling better! My skin isn't spotty, but it is very dry!

@babysquid, I'm so sorry hun xx I'm sorry to ask, but I lose track, how many weeks are you? I'll be thinking of you tomorrow at the hospital. Xxx

Delilah7 · 15/06/2019 20:11

@BabySquid oh hun, I'm sorry. 😔 take time out and just update us as and when you're ready. We are here x x x

@MrsR16 ooooh a wedding and a baby! Lovely jubbly 😍

@ChaosMoon I just want him here 😔 it feels a lifetime away but just think if it goes quickly and I'm all 'ripe' down there I could this time next week have him in my arms 😍 melts my heart. Hope you're ok?

@EltzBee defo enjoy your wedding anniversary tomorrow lovely. Switch off and take time out with OH 😍

Tropicana1 · 15/06/2019 20:15

So sorry @BabySquid xx is there any possibility that you're too early to see anything more than the sac?

BabySquid · 15/06/2019 20:28

@Tropicana1 maybe... I'm hoping so.
@Fivebyfive2 she measured the sack at 6,1.

purplefig · 15/06/2019 20:47

@BabySquid oh I'm so sorry. Let us know how tomorrow goes if and when you can. Thinking of you xxxxx

BostonFern · 15/06/2019 22:28

@BabySquid I'm so sorry to hear that, will be thinking of you tomorrow . Take care of yourself xx

Fivebyfive2 · 16/06/2019 08:22

A bit of a tmi query here ladies, I hope you don't mind?

I'm finding myself a little constipated recently. Nothing dramatic, I'm going about every other day, but they're really tiny! No discomfort or blood or anything, just noticeably different. We go away on Thursday for a week and I'd like to try and get things going a bit more before we go! Pharmacist gave me some lactalose to try, but I'm a bit scared to try it incase it just gives me the runs! Anyone tried it? I've got some bran flakes, activia yoghurt and some extra veg for dinners and will up my water intake, hopefully that will work?! Xx

stormtrooperjulian · 16/06/2019 08:57

@BabySquid I’m so sorry to hear that xx let us know how it goes today

@Fivebyfive2 bran flakes for breakfast every day and plenty of water works for me

We went to look at baby stuff yesterday, went to a huge mothercare about an hour from us and managed to look at all the prams I was interested in seeing except for two. So we’ve chosen a pram and a car seat, it’s quite nice to have a couple of the bigger decisions made now.

DayDreamer1707 · 16/06/2019 09:31

@BabySquid so sorry you are having a tough time, I will be going for my 3 rd scan next week.

So as you all know I started with spotting a couple of weeks ago. I went for a scan and they could see the sac and yolk but said I might be too early to see anything else so had to wait 10 days to see if anything happened. We went for our 2nd scan on Friday and was told that there was a fetal pole measuring at 5mm but no heartbeat, they said that again I could still be too early as they have to wait till the baby is at least 7mm to decide what is happening. So we have to go back on Friday and hope to see a heartbeat. We have been trying our best to stay positive but as you can imagine it can be pretty difficult and extremely emotional. We are just so happy that the baby has definitely developed but still a waiting game...x

BabySquid · 16/06/2019 09:36

@DayDreamer1707 so sorry you're going through it too. DH was reading up this morning about gest sac size and said that the sonographer might be wrong about the age... she said 6,1 but it's only 12mm and DH read that at 6 weeks the sac should be around 20mm. I have restored a little hope but not getting hopes up too much. See what the EPU say today/tomorrow whenever I get in to see them.

DayDreamer1707 · 16/06/2019 09:43

@BabySquid I've realised and been told that a baby will grow to there own timescales and may take longer than others, just because science or whatever says it should be a certain way, no baby follows the rules. That's why dates are always changed early on. It makes sense that you are a lot earlier than you think too because we always put 2 weeks on even when we aren't technically pregnant. I found something that works out the dates completely different and made more sense x

BostonFern · 16/06/2019 11:40

@Fivebyfive2 I'd try bran or similar first, maybe fruit if you can handle it (I couldn't in the first trimester, but apple juice was ok and I think it helped- I'm drinking lots of pineapple and coconut juice at the moment which I think is helping too).

@stormtrooperjulian that sounds like an exciting trip-what did you go for?

@DayDreamer1707 I've got my fingers firmly crossed for you xx

Fivebyfive2 · 16/06/2019 11:52

@stormtrooperjulian, any tips on prams etc? We only have a small mothercare by us, that's literally it for being able to actually look at prams etc! Will go further afield when I'm a little further along. But I just feel totally lost by all the options... And how expensive they seem to be!! Xx

stormtrooperjulian · 16/06/2019 12:45

@Fivebyfive2 we need an all terrain pram as we live rurally. I did a load of research, read reviews on Which etc, and made a list of possible options. We went to the nearby shops and none of them had any of the ones we wanted to try so I was getting worried but a friend told me about a huge mothercare a bit further away so we thought we may as well try there. I didn’t want to buy one before having a go at pushing it around, folding it down etc!

@BostonFern we’re going with the Mamas and Papas Ocarro pram, the Cybex Aton M car seat and the Tutti Bambini Cozee next to bed crib. I was really surprised that neither of us liked the Bugaboo Fox though, I’ve heard so many people raving about Bugaboo but I didn’t rate them at all. I guess preferences are very individual!

@BabySquid how are you doing today?

Delilah7 · 16/06/2019 13:44

@BabySquid I'm hopeful for you. ❤️❤️❤️

Delilah7 · 16/06/2019 13:45

@DayDreamer1707 fingers crossed for you too Hun. ❤️

BabySquid · 16/06/2019 15:46

@stormtrooperjulian I'm as ok as I can be, I've not had any cramps or bleeding or anything so I'm still hopeful, but the EPU hasn't phoned us yet so I doubt I'll be in tomorrow. I don't know if I should go to work tomorrow or not. I'm going to message my boss and tell her all and see what she says.

TrashKitten10 · 16/06/2019 16:48

@BabySquid @DayDreamer1707 Sorry to hear that you're both going through a worrying time and crossing everything for both of you that it all turns out okay. @BabySquid Do whatever you think would help in terms of work. If it would be a welcome distraction then go in but nobody would judge you for wanting some time off to think things through and look after yourself. Is your boss sympathetic and would it be easy to get to the EPAU from work if they contacted you with a short notice appointment?

BostonFern · 16/06/2019 18:38

@BabySquid sorry you've not heard from them today. I agree with @TrashKitten10 do whatever is best for you tomorrow x

@stormtrooperjulian that's the car seat I'm looking at currently, or the Joie i-level (leaning towards the Cybex as it has a slightly better ADAC safety rating, but I like the way you can lie the Joie one a little flatter). I think pushchairs are so hard to choose! We looked at what felt like hundreds at the baby show! There's so many different features. We've, much to my superstitious grandma's horror, already got our pram as we found a bugaboo Cameleon 3 at a bargain price on eBay that was only 30 minutes from where we live. I'm a real list writer and planner so I know what you mean about it being great to cross things off the list!
