@Delilah7 Oh wow - next Friday is so soon! Have you got your hospital bag ready? Grin

@BabySquid All the best for the early scan. Good shout on the leggings front - totally agree about the weather too. Summer, where are you m8?!

@Fivebyfive2 Sorry to hear about your experience at work - I think that incredibly ill-thought out of your colleagues. I think they should always leave it to the pregnant woman to announce, but surely they should have had more tact given they knew about your MC? Very poor form on their behalf.

We told my parents last night which was very exciting. They're both over the moon! It's nice to have more people to chat about it with, though we aren't telling anyone else now until after the 12 week scan. Speaking of which, I've decided against an early scan. Knowing me it would give me reassurance initially, but I'd still be nervous before the 12 week one. Just about to ring the GPs now and let them know!

Any nice weekend plans for Father's Day? xx

Delilah7 · 14/06/2019 09:52

@MrsR16 I hope not too! Xx

@purplefig yep been ready a while 😂😂😂 xx

thumper59 · 14/06/2019 14:13

@Fivebyfive2 aw that was annoying for you! Hormones are great during pregnancy 😂

@Delilah7 I hope they sort themselves out soon!! Chasing people is annoying at best, especially when it's as important as it is!!

I've started feeling movements since back end of last week, and OH felt one last night which I think he still can't believe 😂😂. Feels like a huge step in this whole pregnancy period, I can't wait to see what it is (hopefully) on Tuesday 😊😊😊

Delilah7 · 14/06/2019 14:24

@thumper59 tell me about it!!!

Just walked around the shopping centre and felt little man was gonna fall out of my noon. I can NOT walk far anymore!

EltzBee · 14/06/2019 14:43

@Fivebyfive2 ah how annoying, people should know not to ask even if they suspect! It's just not the 'done thing' to ask! I had a similar thing with one woman who guessed very early, but I just lied and said no. We didn't announce til 17.5 weeks in the end.

Super bored at work with nothing much to do, have flagged to my director and asked for more work as my bosses attitude seems to be 'you're going off soon' - um not for 2 months.

Today I've wfh and using my extra time since my workload is so light, I've done two loads of laundry, including washing all the babies crib and cot sheets!

purplefig · 14/06/2019 19:00

Ladies who are further along - do you remember when you first started experiencing nausea?

BostonFern · 14/06/2019 19:20

@purplefig I started feeling nauseous about four weeks in, but I think it really kicked in about week 7. Weeks 10 and 11 were the worst though. Thankfully I haven't actually been sick, I've gagged and retched and had a bit of reflux, but I think I've been quite lucky really!
Its nice you've told your parents too, I think seeing their reactions is so exciting!

@EltzBee I can imagine how frustrated you must be. I think the days really drag when they are quiet.

Oh @Delilah7 that sounds very uncomfortable!

@thumper59 how exciting that DP can feel the movements too! I've had the odd fluttering and my DP is desperate to feel movement for himself.

I'm so glad it's Friday! I'm going to have my first weekend without work for what seems like months too ☺️ Hope you all have lovely weekend plans.

Delilah7 · 14/06/2019 20:21

@BostonFern 😭 it is!

EltzBee · 14/06/2019 22:51

@purplefig mine started at 5.5/6 weeks, got worse over a week or so, and by week 7/8 I was being sick throughout the day and couldn't keep food or even water down. That stayed until 17ish weeks, then stopped for a few days, then started again through to 21 weeks.

I know some ladies don't get any sickness though so everyone is different!

@BostonFern it's so lovely once they really get going - I felt flutters occasionally from about 13 weeks, but it took them a while to really get going! DH felt them for first time I think about late teen-weeks from memory, but not all the time - it took to the early 20's for him to be able to feel kicks fairly easily. Even now (29 weeks) baby has a habit of stopping when dh puts his hand on my tum lol. He can usually hear them moving and kicking by resting his head on my tummy, easier than feeling with his hand.

Enjoy your weekend without work :D

It's our first wedding anniversary on Sunday :) this time last year, I definitely wasn't as relaxed!! lol. Looking forward to a 3 day weekend and lots of relaxing :)

purplefig · 15/06/2019 07:36

@EltzBee @BostonFern thanks both - I love this thread! I'm reading 'expecting better', which is great, but it mentions that nausea is a sign of a healthy/viable pregnancy so I've just been slightly freaking out. Only 5+4 though.

@EltzBee enjoy your 3 day weekend and celebrations. Sounds lovely.

@BostonFern first weekend without work?!?! You're hardcore 😂 you enjoy some well earned rest!

stormtrooperjulian · 15/06/2019 08:41

@purplefig I got pretty much zero nausea - only very slightly between 7 and 10 weeks if I got too hungry, as long as I snacked regularly then no nausea at all. I’m now 25+5 with a healthy, very active baby. So don’t panic about that, not everyone gets standard ‘morning sickness’, I was really pleased that I avoided that part of pregnancy.

@thumper59 it’s so nice when you start feeling movement isn’t it, I love watching my belly move as the baby wiggles around

@Fivebyfive2 why would anyone do that?! I’d have been so upset! Even if you suspect someone is pregnant surely you don’t mention anything til they announce it themselves!

purplefig · 15/06/2019 08:55

@stormtrooperjulian oh that's really good to hear. Totally agree it would be a nice part of pregnancy to avoid! How're you finding pregnancy overall?

I think I'm just at that really early stage where it doesn't feel real and so I'm desperately looking for signs. But I have a positive pregnancy test and no period 😂 plus sore boobs, light infrequent cramping/stretching, tiredness and dizziness if I get up to fast. That'll do for now!

EltzBee · 15/06/2019 09:09

@purplefig definitely don't worry if you don't get nausea or sickness. Some women get none at all and that's normal too! My mum told me she'd had none when she carried me so think it really doesn't mean anything. As I understand it, hormones and rising HCG can be to blame, but it affects all ladies differently :)

Definitely echo what @stormtrooperjulian said about snacks too - get breakfast in to you, and carry snacks! I found crackers and babybel ideal. If I got hungry, I'd be sick (no idea what the logic was there to my body!). So definitely pop something in your bag so you don't get caught out just in case. The oatcakes you can buy are good as they're packed in portions so you can grab them and being plain they are easy to eat!

The stretchy cramps are totally normal too, even early on your body is already moving things around and changing. It's scary and crazy how it knows what to do!

stormtrooperjulian · 15/06/2019 09:22

@purplefig honestly compared to seemingly the majority of women, I’ve had an incredibly easy pregnancy so far. I was tired til 10/11 weeks and had sore boobs for a few weeks at the start but mostly I’ve felt great. The only obvious signs I had were my boobs suddenly expanding (DD to H cup 😐 I grew a cup size every 3-4 weeks, it’s been very expensive in new bras!) and stretching pains as everything moved around inside me, til my belly popped out at around 21 weeks.

Bettythecat · 15/06/2019 09:43

@stormtrooperjulian sorry to jump in here but that makes me feel so hopeful! I've been torturing myself at my lack of symptoms and nausea the last few days (6+2) as I had a mmc with very similar symptoms earlier this year but maybe that's just me when I'm pregnant?! Your pregnancy sounds great and lovely to hear about your active bubs now.

@purplefig I actually started reading that book but put it down because of the things it repeatedly says about nausea- not very reassuring!! I kind of liked the book but thought it was quite insensitive on some topics with no thought for how some women would feel reading it- I remember right at the beginning there is some information on obesity and even though I'm not obese at all it made me think that if you were you might find it quite upsetting!

purplefig · 15/06/2019 09:55

@EltzBee thanks for all the reassurance. And I'm sorry to hear you had such a rough time of it - how did you cope?! Isn't it something to do with the hormones making your blood vessels relax and widen? Because I've been getting dizzy and seeing stars I stand up too quickly, which I think comes from the same thing. I get hangry at the best of times, so snacks are a great idea. Thanks for all the ideas.

@stormtrooperjulian that's so good! It really does seem to vary dramatically from person to person doesn't it? Ok so my boobs have been very sore/heavy. Inspired by your comment I just went and put on a "proper" bra (been living in comfy sports bras) and OMG. Positively spilling out. So there we go, another symptom! Crazy how frequently yours have been sizing up - I think I might stick to stretchy sports bras in that case.

purplefig · 15/06/2019 09:58

@Bettythecat I've really enjoyed it so far, but yes I thought the nausea comment was a bit alarming! I don't think she's trying to upset anyone though, it's just a very scientific look at things which are a risk, and things which aren't. I find knowledge empowering, so her whole data driven approach really appeals to me. But agree it's not written in a particularly sensitive way.

Bettythecat · 15/06/2019 10:05

@purplefig I agree although I did find it a bit vague in some things- I still had questions and wanted more analysis of some of the data points. For example there is a section about toxyplasmosis (definitely not how you spell it 😂) and cats which I read as I have lots of cats and she says at the end in basically one sentence that there is a link to an increased risk if you have numerous kittens- she then makes a joke about having numerous kittens whilst pregnant but doesn't explain why there might be an increased risk or what the increased risk is. I'm currently fostering a mummy cat and her 5 babies so it's not totally out of the realms of possibility that someone with a cat who has just had babies would be in that situation... definitely don't think she is meaning to upset anyone though.

On the dizziness front I also get that when I stand up! I also get a kind of weird spaced out feeling sometimes. Interesting to hear the reasoning for it thanks for that ☺️

ChaosMoon · 15/06/2019 10:14

Hello ladies! It's taken me 5 days to catch up on this thread. I'm so sorry I can't cover everyone and everything that's happened but I'm so happy to read about the new BFPs, good news about people's scans and that some of you are now on mat leave!

@Delilah7, good luck for next week! You can do this, whichever way it goes, and then you get to meet gorgeous Ethan! Just remember to be kind to yourself when he gets here. It's an emotional rollercoaster and, whatever kind of birth you have, it's bloody knackering!

purplefig · 15/06/2019 10:15

@Bettythecat YES!!! I feel like it's not referenced that well either, if you wanted to do your own independent research. I must say, with the cat thing I've outsourced litter duty to DH 😂 didn't need any more than a vague sentence to convince me to give up that treat hahaa.

Bettythecat · 15/06/2019 10:22

@purplefig hahaha I've done the same!! Even though having read that book I actually know there's basically no risk I'm not telling him that part 😂😂and letting him get on with it!!

Fivebyfive2 · 15/06/2019 10:39

@purplefig @bettythecat, ha ha my dh is also now on litter duty!!

Happy Weekend ladies! I'm going shopping with my mum later, to get some cheap holiday type clothes that will actually fit! Also need to get birthday stuff for my dad and brother. Might have a cheeky stop into Mothercare while we're at it?! 😛

stormtrooperjulian · 15/06/2019 10:41

@Bettythecat @purplefig I think most cats catch toxoplasmosis as kittens when they first learn to hunt. It only becomes infectious from the poop as far as I know after 24-48 hours so as long as the litter box is cleaned regularly it’s not an issue. And you’re much more likely to catch it from undercooked meat or from gardening than from cats anyway! So in my opinion it’s not worth worrying about with cats really, I’m still cleaning the litter boxes for my 3, I reckon as long as I wash my hands after and don’t lick the litter tray I should be ok 😂

MrsR16 · 15/06/2019 11:17

@ChaosMoon great to hear from you! How are you keeping??

@Bettythecat @purplefig I had nausea (only when I was hungry) but no sickness whatsoever. Definitely had the dizziness, but thankfully that didn't last too long! Peanut is kicking around in there like a good un so pregnancy definitely affects all women differently! My poor sister (possibly around 6 weeks now) is having awful sickness and is already putting my bump to shame!

@stormtrooperjulian I've also gone up 3/4 cup sizes! Just insane... I'm not used to having big breasticles! DH positively adores them though haha 😂

@Fivebyfive2 enjoy shopping!! I'm not looking forward to getting an entire new wardrobe... I'm the world's worst shopper anyway, so trying to find normal stuff I like is hard enough, let alone without bump to consider! I'm seeing my parents tomorrow and will see if I can persuade my mum at least to come out to Mothercare with me 😊 we used to have a huge Kiddicare in Peterborough, but that went about a year ago, which makes me sad...

Awesome news for my PIL this week - not only can they finally shout about becoming grandparents for the first time, my BIL proposed to his OH! A wedding and a baby has sent my MIL into a proper spin! 😍

EltzBee · 15/06/2019 11:26

@purplefig lots of sleep and DH was so good looking after me, thankfully work let me WFH a lot too which made a huge difference!

@stormtrooperjulian I've been letting DH do the litter boxes, but I'm sure the risk is minimal anyway like you say it takes 24 hours for it to be a risk anyway. When DH went away I wore gloves and a mask just in case and washed hands thoroughly. I've had cats for my whole life so I'm probably immune to it anyway now! Like @Bettythecat though he might as well do it 🤣🤣🤣 But yeah if you eat meat that's more likely to be a risk anyway!

Some books are scary! Take everything with a pinch of salt and ask midwife for advice etc. The advice is always changing too which doesn't help! Some American books and apps say don't eat soft eggs etc, but NHS says British lion stamped eggs are perfectly safe 😊😊😊
