LOULEW I reckon a random craving! I've been having weird ones every few days, also tomatoes and yesterday was cheese and pickle...anyone else's appetite all over the place? I'm hungry all the time but as soon as I've got food I don't really fancy it. Annoying!

L0ULEW · 19/04/2019 21:51

@Sunshineface123 ah I'm the same I look at food and I feel like I have the biggest appetite ever but after a few bites I'm done. Find I'm having to force feed myself quite a bit

Preggosaurus9 · 20/04/2019 06:49

@AmyLo Argh how annoying. Good thing you chased it up!

Here you can self refer to the midwife. I got grief when I did because apparently I should have done it ASAP! Despite only just having got a positive test at around 7 weeks. They struggled to fit me in and messed up my 12wk scan date so I'll miss the combined test - had to go private to get NIPT instead.

Is there just a random baby boom at the minute?!

Preggosaurus9 · 20/04/2019 06:51

@Sunshineface123
@L0ULEW

Impressed by your healthy cravings! Just weird things like liqorice and chicken with pesto here. But not to actually eat, anything more complicated than cereal or crisps makes me hurl sadly!

JoJoSaysHello · 20/04/2019 07:20

Marmite is all I want to eat at the moment!! Marmite on toast for breakfast, marmite sandwich for lunch... Oh and crisps - all of the crisps.

Has anyone made any baby related purchases yet? I keep seeing things pop up on my Facebook & Instagram adverts (because I google pregnancy related things at least 1000000 times a day so obviously the internet knows). But I think it's still too early & might be tempting fate... I just want to buy all of the cute clothes already!!

QforCucumber · 20/04/2019 08:21

Just got over a sickness bug here God it was the worst.
jojo we won't be buying much at all, have a 3 year old so baby will utilise his cot/infant car seat/pram. We do have bags upon bags of baby clothes in the loft which will need a sort through, we didn't find out the sex with him but will with this one just so we know what to keep Haha.

Mintypea5 · 20/04/2019 08:32

I've brought one thing. A baby gro that related to DH hobby but we have a 9 month old so we have everything we need really. Sil has a 9 week old too so I expect they'll hand us back all our old babies clothes if given them.

I think our only purchases really will be a double pram and a new car... can't fit3 car seats in ours

BananasAreTheSourceOfEvil · 20/04/2019 08:37

@JoJo same here. There are loads of things Id love to buy, but just feel Id be tempting fate if i did. I have to get everything from scratch this time as my youngest is 8 now so all baby stuff is well and truly gone. At least with this being #4 I know what I need and what I dont! Having said that I still want to buy all the gimmicky shite I will never use Grin

Anyone else having bad ligament pains? Ive been having them for weeks now, sharp twinges if I get up too fast, or am not careful rolling over in bed. Have a bad case of the snuffles as well so every sneeze and cough is accompanied by yelping as it feels like Im getting stabbed.

Mintypea5 · 20/04/2019 08:47

I get bag ligament pain with every pregnancy sad face when I sneeze the pain is so bad I cry out Blush

L0ULEW · 20/04/2019 09:17

@Preggosaurus9 I'm a bit of a fruit bat normally tbh. Oh liquorice is a funny one that was on my list of foods not to eat from my midwife x

Pollypocket5 · 20/04/2019 12:25

I have never had a sweet tooth but all I want is chocolate right now. I went out for dinner the other night ordered a burger and when it came I just felt sick.

I'm dying to buy baby bits but I feel like until our 12 week scan I need to not buy anything. It's so hard though.

Mintypea5 · 20/04/2019 12:42

@Pollypocket5 I'm off basically allllll meat! I ordered a burger the other week and it just make me want to hurl. I love steak too and I can't stand the sight of it 😭

Sunshineface123 · 20/04/2019 13:18

Ooh I hadn't even thought of buying anything yet! We've got a two year old so got most things I think! Do need some maternity clothes soon tho!

Leleophants · 20/04/2019 14:08

What do we buy for November baby? I know it'll be newborn but can't work out how big to buy it. I'm guessing layers?

Prequelle · 20/04/2019 14:34

This is my first and I've not got a clue where to even start with buying ha

Mintypea5 · 20/04/2019 14:37

I'd get a few newborn and few 0-3 month sizes for things. Some babies are too big for newborn.

You'll need a few packets of long sleeve vests and sleep suits at that time of year. Layers are the best way! Get some cardigan type things that are easy to layer up. I'd get a 2.5 or 3 tog sleeping bag that time of year (depending how much heating you have on etc) leggings are always good to add an extra layer

JoJoSaysHello · 20/04/2019 16:49

Thanks, @Mintypea5.

Any other advice on what to buy / not buy anyone who has done this before? I guess I'm wondering in terms of things around the house / for out and about as well as clothes. Do I really need a Moses basket, etc etc.

@BananasAreTheSourceOfEvil any examples of unnecessary gimmicky buys that you never used previously?

I'm trying to keep the baby budget under control and I know it's early, but I'm a planner Smile

Preggosaurus9 · 20/04/2019 17:22

@L0ULEW Whoops, ate an entire bag in a day before I knew I was pregnant Blush

@QforCucumber likewise an attic full of stuff, need to find out sex!

@Mintypea5 same, off beef of any kind.

@Sunshineface123 I'm enjoying scouring ebay for maternity clothes this time around. First time I never really bothered and just got bare minimum from New Look and NCT sale. This time I want to look a bit more glam and not feel totally like a frumpy whale!

Also wondering about bf friendly tops as it'll be winter trying to do that.. not that I plan to do it outside but our house isn't the warmest. I did the vest + t shirt thing last time so have a massive stash of Primark vests which should still work. In two minds, bf tops are quite pricey compared to a couple of £2 Primark tops!

@JoJoSaysHello Moses basket is on my personal "pointless" list. Not close enough to mum to settle baby and not big enough to last! We got a next 2 me which was absolutely brilliant. Even if I did end up sleeping with my arm inside it I still got way more sleep than I would have without it. Co sleeping always made me nervous and I could never nod off properly so it was a lifesaver knowing DS was safe in there no matter how tired I was.

Clothing wise I'd say hats are a must, especially if you have a Victorian or otherwise cold house. Newborns lose heat through their heads really quickly so DS lived in little cotton hats for the first few months. Plus they're super cute! Smile

Mintypea5 · 20/04/2019 17:50

I'm in a Victorian house and it gets very cold in winter (despite heating) so hats for that time of year. Moses baskets were completely pointless for us. DS1 hates his and was far far too big for it after about a month. We had a next2me for DS2 and it was my best bye! They can be expensive but you can get some good ones on Facebook selling sites. Just get a new mattress.
We have an Ollie the owl noise thing which was invaluable in teaching DS2 to self settle. As soon as the thing comes on he's asleep. It also has heartbeat and white noise function which was great as a newborn. Gro egg for his room for temperature.

I plan to bottle feed primarily with 1 or 2 Breastfeeds a day for first month or 2. So for me a steriliser and bottles. I have massive supply issues so am happy with my choice but if you plan to breastfeed I'd get one of the nice comfy cushions! We had a my breast friend and it was amazing!

Also if you fancy it a decent sling / carrier. Lots of places have sling libraries you can try them out at before choosing the one for you

Has anyone ever done formula feed supplemented with expressed milk? I'm just thinking of things ha

Laurajp23 · 20/04/2019 17:57

@prequelle
That's so useful, thank you! 😊

Mintypea5 · 20/04/2019 18:05

This ones good too for working out what to wear. gro.co.uk/what-to-wear/

DS2 was born on the hottest day last June so we spent the first few months in nappies

I tried breastfeeding both mine. DS1 it's too painful to recount but DS2 went better but I moved to formula at 7 weeks with expressed milk for a few weeks to stop me getting sore boobs as my milk dried up

dottydally · 20/04/2019 18:14

@JoJoSaysHello we've bought two baby things. One when we decided to ttc (even though it was a year away) and then one after our early scan at 8 weeks. I'll buy something else after our 12w scan as long as everything goes ok.

I'm hoping to get a next2me as I'd heard babies often grow out of Moses baskets too quickly. I did think about a sleepyhead though. Does anyone have any experience? I may also have been thinking about prams if anyone has any recommendations Blush

I'm delighted to say I've gone off sweets and chocolate. I'm eating grapes and strawberries like they're going out of fashion but they're all I want.

Does size have any bearing on whether you can breastfeed? I've always worried as I'm on the smaller side.

Mintypea5 · 20/04/2019 18:54

@dottydally I think you'll get 50/50 on sleepyheads. Some people swear by them others don't think they're worth the risk. We had a purflo nest (about 1/2 the price of the sleepy head) which had a mesh base and the ways it's shaped left a lot of space around the head so I wasn't worried about his face touching the sides or getting over heated. I did a lot of my own research and decided I was comfortable using one but the official advise is no. Babies should be in an empty cot

Parma it depends on budget and what you want! We got the Mothercare own brand one for £299 and I love it! I do want the cosatto xl this time because it can be a double buggy which we'll need but it's nearly £800 so might have to spend some time convincing DH!
