Hello everyone, had my 16 weeks last week, was just blood, urine and general talk about 20 weeks scan.
Is everyone getting the cough vaccine which is midwife said is offered at the 20 weeks scan. Is that offered before or after the scan?... i am not very comfortable with injecting vaccines in my body but will need to as they say it is crucial to get it. Just thinking should i get it at 20 or ask them if i can wait another 3-4 weeks before getting it.They do say it is no harm to the baby....

worriedmomtobe1 · 24/05/2019 09:26

which the midwife said*

PrayingandHoping · 24/05/2019 10:01

@worriedmomtobe1 I was told to ring the surgery and book it in after my 20 weeks scan

Don't worry about the vaccine. The risk of vaccinations are a lot lot less that the outcome of your baby getting whooping cough!

LexieLoos · 24/05/2019 10:01

@worriedmomtobe1 I’m having the whooping cough vaccine.
It’s not offered at the scan here though, you book it in with your GP any time after 16 weeks, so mine is next Wednesday

dottydally · 24/05/2019 10:07

@worriedmomtobe1 another one here who will be having it. I'd be more worried about what would happen if baby did get whooping cough when they were so tiny.

My midwife said you can have it any time from 16-32 weeks but they discuss it at your 16 week appointment.

I will probably get the flu vaccine too. They offer it from September so seems sensible!

RainhamRosie · 24/05/2019 10:36

@worriedmomtobe1

I've also booked in for whooping cough vaccine in a few weeks. And I'll have the flu vaccine in September. Basically I'll take all the vaccines that are advised. It's personal choice but make sure any research you do comes from reputable, medically certified sources and not just the internet. X

BobbySD345 · 24/05/2019 11:20

I'm definitely having every vaccine they throw at me ! I've heard the whooping cough one isn't very pleasant and your arm feels dead for ages but it's worth it ! It's been over a week since my last scan and I start to get anxious if everything is OK in there. I may need to book a private one but imagine how much it would cost if I needed one every week just to satisfy my anxiety. I suppose once I can feel movement I will be more reassured...

Mintypea5 · 24/05/2019 11:37

There has been a massive rise in cases I. Whooping cough especially in new burns so they now vaccinate us so baby is born with immunity in the body otherwise it can be very nasty for a very tiny baby if they catch up.
Clearly your choice but it's an important one especially considering the time of year we're having babies

worriedmomtobe1 · 24/05/2019 14:28

Thank you for your comments everyone. It really helps hearing out from you guys and NHS obviously recommends it. I will have it at my 20 weeks :)

JoJoSaysHello · 25/05/2019 08:41

Morning ladies.

I've had a stinking cold over the past couple of days and now my sinuses are all blocked up. I'm worried about little one but a brief google tells me baby should be fine (and what can I do about it anyway Sad so I've stopped googling).

Normally I would take something to try and help my sinuses. Does anyone know if there is something safe to take for colds? Or should I just put up with it? Surely it won't last too long anyway!

PrayingandHoping · 25/05/2019 08:45

@JoJoSaysHello I had a stinking cold last month. Put a towel over your head over a bowl of just boiled water with a few drops of olbas oil in it. Doesn't solve but it helps. Vicks vaporub is also fine

I missed Sudafed badly!

blizzard88 · 25/05/2019 08:57

Hey folks, can I join. Just been waiting for cvs results before letting myself believe this is happening! Unexpected DC2 due 14th Nov. Anyone else due that day?

JoJoSaysHello · 25/05/2019 09:17

@PrayingandHoping great, thank you for the suggestions!

@blizzard88 welcome! I'm due the day after you. There is a google doc somewhere with everyone's due dates on... the link is buried somewhere in this thread Smile (so I haven't updated it since my scan gave me the new date of 15th!)

Mintypea5 · 25/05/2019 09:38

@JoJoSaysHello I had the worst sinus infection (lasted almost a month) and the DR basically said sorry nothing we ca. Do. Hot showers to clear them, hot clothes on head to help drain, self sinus massage drain and if you're brave you can use saline water to rinse! It's bloody miserable. I had so much pressure behind my eye I kept losing vision

bearface45 · 25/05/2019 14:20

blizzard88 I’m also due 14th November with number 2!
Had terrible sinuses with cold early April, just melted loads of Vics into bowel of hot water with towel over, it’s all I could do, still not 100% with my sinuses now but suffer with them anyway

tigsyboo · 25/05/2019 22:00

@Mintypea5
@bearface45
I had a bad sinus problem following a nasty cold and my dr prescribed me beconase nasal spray
Said it was safe during pregnancy and is a steroid spray that does something to the sinus passages.
2 hours after first sprays I was 'clearing' them well and truely blowing my nose in a way I've never known!! , I could feel the mucas leaving my eye sockets and temples!! 24 hrs later I felt like a new woman!! Worse asking your dr xx

tigsyboo · 25/05/2019 22:01

@JoJoSaysHello last post relates to sinus'!!!

bearface45 · 26/05/2019 11:18

Wow wish I’d have known about that! Anyone else still so tired? Have been laid on sofa since I ‘got up’ napped for 2 hours yesterday afternoon then went to bed at 9pm,feel like i’m sinking into the ground!

blizzard88 · 26/05/2019 11:35

Yes, I'm still really tired, tend to be in bed by about 9.30 and still no energy to do stuff during the day! Trying to remember when I felt better last time, reckon a couple more weeks...

bearface45 · 26/05/2019 11:50

I felt better by 13 weeks last time but tiredness doesn’t seem to be going! Fingers crossed

Farmmum7 · 26/05/2019 12:11

Will the tiredness go away? I'm useless I almost had to nap in the car after doing the food shopping last week because I didn't know if I'd make it home otherwise!

I find the sickness is worse when your tired too so if I get a chance to nap I'll take it!

RainhamRosie · 26/05/2019 12:35

Tiredness a real thing for me too. We've just moved and are in the process of renovating so I feel so bad that I'm leaving DH to do all the work. But I'm just knackered.

bearface45 · 26/05/2019 16:30

Just made it out to the park finally took all day to psyche myself up to get off the sofa. Partners at work and my daughter was climbing the walls, feel sorry for her we usually take her all over

BeckyHS · 26/05/2019 16:34

Can I join club November? Smile

I'm due 4th November. First baby. I'm 34.

blizzard88 · 26/05/2019 20:29
