Just come from the midwife - they don’t listen to the heartbeat here anymore so I’m quite disappointed! Never mind, 20-week scan is the next big one!

Farmmum7 · 22/05/2019 10:18

I'm still awaiting my booking in appointment I'm 13 weeks tomorrow! I'm going to call today and see if they can at least give me a date.

I haven't bought anything yet I'm desperate to get out and buy the first babygrow it's an hour to the closest town with clothes shops though and my car is in the garage so even though I think I'm finally upto it I can't 😫

@Mintypea5 a break sounds amazing are you going anywhere exciting? I promised the kids a whole day on the beach Saturday if the weather's nice so ill be doing my best beached whale impression 😂

Mintypea5 · 22/05/2019 10:36

@Farmmum7 have they acknowledged at all your on their system booking in should be done by now! Have you had your scan date through?!? You'll be out of range for the combiners testing unless it's this week! You'll need the quad blood test instead

We're off to south of France 😁 and the F1 in Monaco for DH Birthday

@LexieLoos it's a shame they don't do it anymore but you'll hear it at all your other appointments. When I had DS1 they used the ear cup thing instead of the Doppler so I didn't get to hear it anyway 😂

thumper59 · 22/05/2019 10:39

@LexieLoos I just had my 16 week and didn't get to listen either. Was a bit gutted! The whole appointment was a bit of a pointless one!

LexieLoos · 22/05/2019 12:16

@Mintypea5 Sorry I didn’t read your post properly - holiday sounds lovely. And so nice you’re feeling flutters already 😍

@thumper59 I felt it was a bit pointless too 😕 Took my blood pressure, told me all bloods had come back fine and to book a whooping cough vaccination then that was it

thumper59 · 22/05/2019 12:52

@LexieLoos I was disappointed about the heartbeat, not getting the chance to listen. She basically told me everything was fine and that I already knew that as nobody had rang and I said yeah, and she did my blood pressure and gave me a piss pot to keep for next time, that was it really! Glad my ph didn't take the morning off for that!

Farmmum7 · 22/05/2019 14:20

@Mintypea5 I got a letter around 6/7 weeks ago to say I'm on a waiting list! When I was in the hospital a couple of weeks go with a bleed the Dr said I should have the appointment between 12-14 weeks. They do bloods and the scan all in the same day I think then the next appointment is after 20 weeks I'm not sure I get a second scan at all in this hospital. I've a list of weeks and who you see and it suggests you only get one appointment before 24 weeks!

BobbySD345 · 22/05/2019 18:08

Had my screening results back today and they say low risk and then give some scores like 1 in 7000 for down syndrome and 1 in 31000 which sounds good to me !

Does anyone know (@mintypea5 I bet you will!). My midwife said to me at my booking app that I will have consultant led antenatal care and this is written on the front of my notes. I haven't heard anything about when I would see a consultant or whether a referral has been made. Is this normal? I think she said I would see him or her around 16 weeks and my 16 week midwife appt is coming up soon !
Thank you ladies x

PrayingandHoping · 22/05/2019 18:14

@BobbySD345 I got my letter just under a week after my scan. The appointment is at around 18 weeks

Mintypea5 · 22/05/2019 19:13

@BobbySD345 I got my consultant appointments in the post last week I think? Maybe call your midwife and ask if you're meant to have one at 16 weeks or not with the consultant. Mine at much later this time around 28 and 34 weeks but I have the same consultant as last time so not sure if I was "new" I'd see them at 16 weeks or not ...

Farmmum7 · 22/05/2019 20:31

I got a call today...my first appointment is at 16 weeks! She just said it was an antenatal clinic so turn up between 9-10am and that'll be fine there's a letter in the post so I'll see what that says I don't know if that's my booking in appointment or a general clinic. I'll have to leave home at 7am to get there though so I'll have to see if I can get someone to come over and get the kids to school unless my DH doesn't come but I don't fancy driving the 4 hour round trip on my own I'll have to have a nap before I come back!

LexieLoos · 22/05/2019 21:12

@Farmmum7 Wow that’s quite a trip! Is that the hospital you’ll be giving birth at or is that at your surgery?

BobbySD345 · 23/05/2019 07:25

@Farmmum7 have you not had your dating scan and screenings done before now? I thought they had to do those before 14 weeks x

BobbySD345 · 23/05/2019 07:27

Thank you @mintypea5 and @prayingandhoping

I might ring and ask re consultant because I also haven't had a maternity exemption certificate for prescriptions and no-one has said whether I should still be on the increased dose of folic acid or not. I feel a pain to ring up and ask questions but I suppose that is what they are there for.

Farmmum7 · 23/05/2019 08:19

@LexieLoos that's the closest hospital I'm hoping I'll give birth there but knowing my luck I'll end up in the shed with the vet attending 😂 my last two labours were around 12-16 hours from start to finish so I'm hoping I'll have time!!

@BobbySD345 this will be the first time I see anyone. I was in hospital at 11 weeks when I started bleeding and thy did a scan just to see if they could find the source of the bleed and if baby was ok. I haven't had any bloods or information taken by a midwife yet.

I've started a list of all the things I want to ask when I finally get to see someone then if I have to wait another 10 weeks at least I'll have some reassurance between the appointments!

Mintypea5 · 23/05/2019 10:01

@Farmmum7 where are you based?

Farmmum7 · 23/05/2019 10:15

@Mintypea5 in South Kerry in Ireland the closest hospital is in Tralee I think it's Kerry general hospital. I had a choice of Tralee or Cork but Cork is over 2 hours and is in the city I've never been there before but I assumed they would be busier and the traffic would be a nightmare.

PrayingandHoping · 23/05/2019 11:35

Just had my 16 week midwife appointment and I was lucky as she still listens to heartbeat. Baby didn't make it easy for her! She kept finding baby and then he/she would move away 😂 but got there in the end.

AcatcalledGary · 23/05/2019 16:55

@Farmmum7 we are going to a wedding in Kerry in August at Ballyroe Heights Hotel. I’ve never been to Ireland (we are in Leeds) so I’m really excited. Just hope I can sort out my fit to fly letter as Ryanair are being a bit awkward.

BobbySD345 · 23/05/2019 17:41

@Prayingandhoping I thought the 16 week midwife appointment is just to see how you are getting on and to send you off for the whooping cough vaccine. I've told my hubby not to bother booking time off! Do they do a scan then? Amazing that you heard the heartbeat 😍

Mintypea5 · 23/05/2019 18:03

@BobbySD345 they won't scan you but some areas use a Doppler to heat the heartbeat at the clinic. My area doesn't do it anymore so have to wait for 24 week appointment

PrayingandHoping · 23/05/2019 20:19

@BobbySD345 as minty said it was just a Doppler. No visual. And I think it is being phased out. The Bounty email I got this morning even said it wasn't done anymore.

Otherwise it was blood pressure, urine and a chat!

BobbySD345 · 23/05/2019 20:42

Thank you @mintypea5 and @PrayingandHoping. I have no clue about all this !
I keep touching my lower belly wondering if I will feel the flutters that you were on about @mintypea5 but if anything I think I can just feel gas 😂 do you feel them to the touch or just in your belly ?

Pollypocket5 · 23/05/2019 20:59

@BobbySD345 you won't be able to feel them with your hand. I feel them when I'm laying in bed at night. It just feels like butterflies in your belly.

Mintypea5 · 23/05/2019 21:12

@BobbySD345 not to touch it's too early but I feel them either laying down or sometimes if I'm sitting hunched over like baby is saying stop squishing me mummy!
